While visiting stopped for lunch at High's Cafe. Very busy lunch spot even during the week. Mostly tables full inside and out of ladies. They removed tables for social distancing and cleaned well between Service all working in masks. Tiki Hubby and I ordered a few items to share. The 1/2 Cold Meatloaf sandwich was not my favorite but Hubby enjoyed. Thick slice of cold meatloaf between thick slices of homemade bread. The chicken pot pie was filled with creamy chicken peas and carrots the thick dense biscuit on top once broken into small pieces did not add to the creamy pot pie. Way to much dill and thyme that overpowered the biscuit. Best part of meal was the way to sweet hot bread pudding, came out with whipped cream on top and in gooey lemon sauce. Esposa and I have eaten here several times when visiting Bending Branch winery nearby. If there is a line, please don't walk away; the food is worth the wait. Heard about the town of Comfort TX and decided to check it out. Came to High's because of some reviews and the distillery behind it. Though the distillery was closed, it was great to check out this restaurant. You order at the counter and then they call your number to pick it up at the window. It was a nice day outside, so we enjoyed our meal outside. Food - I got the Big EZ Hot Muffaletta that consist of black forest ham, sliced genoa salami, provolone, relish (chopped artichokes, olives, sweet peppers) and coarse grained mustard served warm on grilled ciabatta roll. It was alright, not as good or big as those in NYC. They came with a small amount of pickled veggies. We finished with their bread pudding that was flavorful and rich. My suggestion is to get this AFTER you are done with your meal. The homemade whip cream is a perfect topping to this dish. Atmosphere - It is an old firehouse turned into a store/restaurant. Service is great and the place is extremely nice. Overall - Check it out for lunch, though I have heard good things about breakfast. read more

We stopped by for lunch in between some of our winery visits and were pLeasantly surprised. We had some beautiful weather that made the porch a beautiful place to sit and enjoy. We ordered sandwiches (tangy turkey and the big easy) and grabbed some chips as well. The food came out quickly and our cashier was excellent. My muffuletta (big easy) was delicious and just the right size. For those of you muffuletta lovers out there you know they're normally enormous but this was the perfect single serving size without compromising on taste. My wife's tangy turkey was also quite good. There were notes of citrus and the Cole slaw added some crunch as well as a nice fresh quality. Definitely a great option to grab some food on High street. read more

Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! We live about an hour away and will make the drive to High's Cafe because it is guaranteed to be fresh, tasty and just terrific. We go 2-3 times a month. We have enjoyed their soups, sandwiches, salads, and specials. 100% satisfied. The service is always kind and with a smile. The restaurant is clean, quaint, and although usually crowded we have never had to wait for a seat. There is indoor and outdoor seating. High's provides counter-service and will take about 15-25 minutes from ordering to being served but it is because the food is prepared when you order. Great place for a quick lunch that's affordable and tasty. We tried the High Dawgs (hot dogs), and they were some of the best we've ever had. We were meeting two other couples of an early lunch and High's turned out to be the perfect spot for a nice lunch and a leisurely visit with friends. High's doesn't offer table service--you order at the counter and pick your food up at the window when your pager goes off. There's plenty of indoor seating but we usually choose to sit outdoors on the front deck to people-watch while eating. Nice place with plenty of character. The deserts looked and tasted great. They made hot chocolate look like a gourmet drink (great presentation). We went there in a Saturday around 1pm. The place was busy but still room to find a table before our food was ready. You order at the order counter and get a buzzer. When the buzzer goes off you go to the pick up window and get your food. But you do get your beverages and deserts at the same time and place you order your food. (So we ate the desert as our appetizer, prior to the main food being ready.) Before we placed our order, the worker told us it'd be a 20 minute wait to get the food, and to make sure that was ok, before we ordered our food. read more

We came here numerous times while we were staying in Comfort, Texas. The first visit, my hubby and I ordered a salted caramel iced coffee and a magic dessert bar. Both were delicious. Found this place last year during our annual trip to Boerne. It is amazing...especially the apricot bread pudding. Been waiting a year to come back...especially for that dessert. Afraid it wouldn't live up to my expectations this year. Well....IT DID!! As good as I remembered. Last year had the BLAT (avocado)...this year went with the daily special - fish tacos. My husband and I have been going to High's restaurant for 20 years when they had one table and 2 stools right inside their doors!!! It was love at first bite!!! We have continued to go to High's, not as often as before the pandemic, but they are the only reason we go to Comfort!!! We live in San Antonio. Today April 22, 2022 we visited and of course it was crowded but that is a good thing for them!!! The food today was not the food that we have grown used to over the years, I feel like the tuna was of a lesser quality than I have come to expect!!! It may have been albacore tuna but I think it's from the pouch not a can!! It had a lot more moisture and the texture was off, it was not good!!! And I have been sick all afternoon since I ate the sandwich!!! I also ordered the pickled vegetables and they were old, the carrots were more shaved peelings and the cauliflower was turning brown!!! The meatloaf had a different sauce than my husband came to expect!! White sauce on meatloaf doesn't work!! I love High's and I will be back, maybe I will order something else!!! This place was the cutest! Upon entering it was very well lit and bright. It was a little store inside as well with local art and Lotions and random kids toys. You order your food at the front and pick it up when they call your number. I got the Highs Salad, their daily special shrimp pasta salad and zucchini and pepper soup. All of it was amazing. I loved the candied pecans on the salad. They tasted different than four normal candied pecan! My boyfriends dad for the chicken pot pie, which was AMAZING! The breading on top was thick and goey and honestly perfect. Probably one of the best pot pies I've ever tried. All the desserts are home made and delicious. A surprising gem we stumbled upon here! After spending about 8 hours rock climbing at Enchanted Rock, we were definitely hungry! Bathrooms and cafe in general are very clean and well designed (better homes and gardens worthy). We got there at about 3:50, blissfully ignorant that we had barely snuck in before closing (4pm). I ordered chicken salad atop the High's house salad. It was amazing! Just happened to be the kind of chicken salad I like, with the grapes! The lemonade was fresh and tart, and I believe they might even sell beer bottles? Here's my take on High's FOOD/COFFEE: I was in Comfort for a wedding and was happy to see that there were some great options for coffee walking distance from the hotel and wedding venue! Their coffee is delicious and fairly priced. I also indulged in their baked goods. I tried the hummingbird cake, intense chocolate brownie, and the bacon chive pepper scone (not all at once!) and each were delicious and priced at about $2 each, which I thought was totally fair. Their other food options (lunch and breakfast fare) looked healthy and delicious. AMBIANCE: The cafe itself is cozy but spacious, and it has an outdoor seating area as well. Plenty of seating indoors as well. High's has super cute decor and a few displays of local handmade items as well, including goat milk based items (soaps, lip balm). I heard afterwards that the lip balm was incredible, so I'll have to grab some next time! I would recommend High's for a quick bite or coffee when stopping in Comfort! read more

Whenever you pass through Comfort, this is one of the places you should stop. I actually had a voucher from staying at Hotel Faust for a free breakfast. I would have gone anyway because it was across the street and it peaked my interest. It's opened from 8am - 4pm everyday. It's not only a restaurant but it's also a place to buy local art and gifts too. The architecture stands out in the middle of the historic buildings in the Historic Downtown District. You enter into High's and there are menus in front and order at the counter. I just ordered the Bacon & Egg sandwich with Hash Browns and they were decent.
