    Partially-eaten Rancher Sandwich
    Michael E.

I've been a huge fan of this place my entire life. We ate here a lot in high school! The sandwiches are so fresh and tasty ; I've been a Brainstorm guy most of my life, but the new Rancher sandwich they've added has taken over my top spot! Turkey, cheese, bacon, and their amazing ranch dressing on hot sourdough bread? Yes please! Don't sleel on the soups and desserts, either! The potato soup is so good, just like your grandma used to fix and the pies are outrageously good! The staff is always kind and friendly. I always pop my head in the kitchen to thank them for a mighty tasty meal. Be sure to check out the mural on the back wall and see what places you might recognize!

Line was halfway through the cafe, so I figured the place must be good. If the only complaint I have is waiting in line, then I have to say this place is definitely on my must return list. Love the sandwiches, pickle and chips. Pies looked amazing, but I talked myself out.

Not a bad place but the hype is greater than it should be. Don't get me wrong here, the food is above average and the service is always with a smile. And the pies, well they are fresh made and because of that, they are superior. The place has one major problem, it is severely outdated and awkwardly cramped with stuff stored all over the place. You need bread crumbs to leave a trail to the restroom because you might have to navigate multiple rooms and a haphazardly placed dangerous step to find it and your way back. The whole place is not really set up for disabled due to that large step in the middle of the walkway separating rooms. There is also just years of grime that is deeply embedded into the floor, the walls and just everywhere. Again don't get me wrong, it is clean because the staff stays on top of the daily cleaning but after years of renovation neglect the place is just tired. So if you have made it this far, Bumdoodlers offers above average menu with superior pies and great staff but has an atmosphere that transports me back to staying at my hoarder of a man, father-in-laws house. Like I want to be here because it is good food but at the same time I want to only stay as long as I have to.

Excellent place to grab lunch! The staff is super friendly and the food was really good! The selection of pies and goodies is pretty good!

We have been in twice now. They were very busy both times, but we didn't have to wait long. Service was very friendly. The sandwiches are very simple but yummy and incredibly affordable. I haven't been disappointed this far. We have tried a number of their pies and cheesecakes and have loved every one. Their turtle cheesecake and Elvis pie are our favorites in particular. Check their special of the day. I can't recall the exact name but when I came in recently on a Thursday they had a turkey bacon ranch which I really loved. We live near six flags but will happily drive here for a sandwich and slice of their incredible pie or cheesecake.

Brainstorm for me and a Gobbler w/ potato soup for the Infiniti guru across the table. Delicious! Love the staff here. The fun atmosphere makes it a Boerne classic.

I LOVE bums! This is a great spot for a light lunch and have so many wonderful options! I prefer the gobbler sandwich with the thick bread! Always ask for two pickles! They have so many options to choose from. I've tried many of the sandwiches and the gobbler is my favorite. They are super busy once it hits at 12pm. They are great for customer service and speed of receiving my food. I personally love the chocolate pie with whip cream for dessert. I've never been disappointed when I go here and will continue to support this small business. Great food! Great service!

Huge sandwiches and great deserts. Quick service. Was surprised to see two of the three seating sections closed an hour before closing on a Saturday; which only left 4 small tables (which meant we had to split up our party over two tables).

They have above average sandwiches and delicious soup smothered spuds. I typically get half of a broccoli cheese spud which is the baked potato with cheese and soup poured on top. It's my favorite item here. Today they were out of potatoes so I got the half sandwich and cup of soup combo. I got the Bum's Brainstorm (warm) for my sandwich. This sandwich is delicious but it's not as good if you don't get it warmed up!

The only reason for not coming back is the distance from my home and the awful 1604 and 10 traffic during all that construction. Today, I went with my wife and one of her friends who was visiting from Chicago on our way home from birding out at Guadalupe River State Park. I don't remember the first time well enough to comment on any changes. I had a hard time choosing a salad. Every single one of them sound fantastic. I finally went with the Mediterranean. All I can say is that it was a wonderful salad. The awesome young lady who prepared it for me used tongs to mix the Hoo Hah out of it. Not only was itt was super fresh, and but I could taste every one of the many ingredients in every bite. It also came in a HUGE bowl. It was what I call a "man salad". I was actually full when it was finished. The only downside of the meal was actually a very positive situation in my opinion. I thought my Sprite Zero tasted funny. My wife disagreed. Either way, I couldn't drink it. I asked a manager if I could get a new cup and explained the situation. She got a little cup and had one of her guys taste it. He agreed with me. Now, why is this a positive situation? That young man immediately got to work cleaning the nozzle in case there was anything in it that was tainting the soda. I have been in similar situations where they just give me a new cup and go right to work as if they didn't care. In this case, the manager and her worker scored major loyalty points! I am bringing my group back the first chance I get.

The service, when we walked up was not as friendly as others have experienced. The glass in front of the warming table was dirty and the chicharrones under the heat lamp looked dry. Fried rice and lo mein are $1.25 extra. At a Chinese takeout. It was insane to pay more for mediocre, HARD fried rice that was absolutely not Puerto Rican-style fried rice. It tasted like it was a day old, it was so hard. If you're selling yourself as Boricua Chinese food then give us the ham, ribs, onion, and lettuce like it should be. That or serve stir-fried rice that's fresh and not old. We ordered the two meat plate; one with pepper steak and ribs, the other with Mongolian beef and chicharron de pollo and the birria eggrolls. The ribs shouldn't be sold. The breading is gummy, not crispy, the meat was dry, and the sauce is over-seasoned with Chinese five spice or some other ungodly spice that overwhelmed the palate. Whatever that anise-five spice situation is needs to be scaled back or eliminated. The amount of spice on the ribs is the complete opposite of PR or NY costillas, spicy instead of sweet and sour. The pepper steak was okay, but you can tell it never touched a wok. The meat lacked that caramelization. I think they should start truly stir frying their meats. The chicharron de pollo was the only menu item that tasted like it was "Puerto Rican," it was well seasoned and the chicken was decent, a little on the dry side. The Mongolian beef was beef with broccoli so that was a wash. They need to ensure they're serving the customers what they ordered or prepare the food the traditional way so there are no surprises. The birria egg rolls were rolled too small, which means the inside of the egg roll was gummy. If they rolled them a little bigger there wouldn't be excess wrapper inside. The consommé it came with has globs of fat floating in it but was decent. I'm bummed because we went hoping to have a new place that would bring a taste of home. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to go back because it just wasn't worth the money.

Try, in this given year to frequent a place maybe minutes from you. I am surrounded by spots I have never tried before. I am guilty of passing up a business based on its facade. Soups & Rolls definitely fits in this category. As I stated in my last review some of the best flavors in the city reside in the most precarious places. This place, which provides flavorful Vietnamese and Chinese fare is no different. It is another place in the Westside that quietly makes fantastic food. It used to be a Central American restaurant but in this area nothing is permanent. When I went the mistake was parking in the back. Not a problem, as I went to the proper entrance. In my opinion the age of Instagram and Tik Tok has aided bias on the part of the patron. Customers are seeking places that have an ambience to document their experiences. Via photoworthy posts on social media or selfies. So much so the meal becomes secondary or an afterthought. If you are expecting a giant dragon with waterfalls or a modern lighting that highlights the room you will not find it. Its table and seating is very humble, as the owners. We sat down and one of the friendly servers took our orders. Their menu is extensive with pho, lemongrass chicken, spring rolls etc. In addition they do carry some Chinese dishes in case you aren't into Vietnamese fare. But what cruel human being wouldn't be? I have always wanted to try a bahn mi for the longest time.. The thing is I'm not into pork. The owner suggested a beef one. I ordered that and a mango boba tea. My partner ordered spring rolls and a bowl of vermicelli. No sooner was I looking at the tiger painting on their wall did all food items arrive. Everything was hot and fresh. The bahn mi was gigantic. It was a huge french hoagie roll stuffed with beef, carrots and cilantro. I must confess I'm not a fan of cilantro but it fit here perfectly. The meat was tender and flavorful. It came with accompanying fries. I tried my partner's spring rolls and they were some of the best I have ever had. The rolls were fried with an equally flavorful filling. In addition the mango boba was really good. I like the consistency of mine to be thick. If I stick my straw into the boba and it stands straight up I know it is good. The chef came from the kitchen to check on us. He tried to explain that the bahn mi and the torta are very similar. But then again most cuisines share a commonality. I understand people's hesitancy to try a place in precarious neighborhoods. I implore you to try a place in your locale. If not, and you are up for an adventure please check out "Soups & Rolls" in the Westside. The service and food are both excellent. Next time I'm getting that big bowl of Pho with extra Sriracha sauce. First, I have to learn how to properly pronounce it.
