I've been a huge fan of this place my entire life. We ate here a lot in high school! The sandwiches are so fresh and tasty ; I've been a Brainstorm guy most of my life, but the new Rancher sandwich they've added has taken over my top spot! Not a bad place but the hype is greater than it should be. Don't get me wrong here, the food is above average and the service is always with a smile. And the pies, well they are fresh made and because of that, they are superior. The place has one major problem, it is severely outdated and awkwardly cramped with stuff stored all over the place. You need bread crumbs to leave a trail to the restroom because you might have to navigate multiple rooms and a haphazardly placed dangerous step to find it and your way back. The whole place is not really set up for disabled due to that large step in the middle of the walkway separating rooms. There is also just years of grime that is deeply embedded into the floor, the walls and just everywhere. Again don't get me wrong, it is clean because the staff stays on top of the daily cleaning but after years of renovation neglect the place is just tired. So if you have made it this far, Bumdoodlers offers above average menu with superior pies and great staff but has an atmosphere that transports me back to staying at my hoarder of a man, father-in-laws house. We have been in twice now. They were very busy both times, but we didn't have to wait long. Service was very friendly. The sandwiches are very simple but yummy and incredibly affordable. I haven't been disappointed this far. We have tried a number of their pies and cheesecakes and have loved every one. Their turtle cheesecake and Elvis pie are our favorites in particular. Check their special of the day. I can't recall the exact name but when I came in recently on a Thursday they had a turkey bacon ranch which I really loved. I LOVE bums! This is a great spot for a light lunch and have so many wonderful options! I prefer the gobbler sandwich with the thick bread! Always ask for two pickles! They have so many options to choose from. I've tried many of the sandwiches and the gobbler is my favorite. They are super busy once it hits at 12pm. They are great for customer service and speed of receiving my food. I personally love the chocolate pie with whip cream for dessert. Took the sandwich to a young brunette girl and showed her the bone. Without a word in response she got another make staff member with a beard. All he said was " Um, that was not suppose to happen". What an awesome find. My daughter in law suggested it for lunch passing through town. It's a little hole in the wall place , friendly , warm and cozy . It was lunch time and the place was filling up. We ordered a chicken little - homemade chicken salad on french slices with lettuce and mayo. And a Gobbler, light roasted turkey on french slices , lettuce ,onion and tomato( we held the tomato) . We ordered fountain drinks and found seats. The soups are all homemade and sounded delicious ( but more than what I wanted to eat ). They were speedy with creating the sandwiches. They all come with a side of potato chips and a dill pickle. The chicken salad was delicious, however it had pickle pieces in it. The pickle did add a crunch however celery would have been better, it was tasty . The Gobbler was very nice , the turkey was tasty , they remembered to leave off the tomato. Been coming for years since 2011! The best sandwich to get is the brainstorm (hot) with a side of the broccoli cheese soup. With a side of their RANCH to dip the sandwich and chips in. Not impressed at all. Unfortunelty for Boerne, this place does not compare to Kerrville Bumdoodler's. First of all, the staff does not clean the tables after previous people eat of it. I wiped down my own table. Then after loudly chatting about their personal lives, they will ask you, "did you order yet?!" Limited menu and food was sub par at best. Comment about sandwich being made by a child is accurate- it's way overpriced for low quality. And the soup? They popped it out of the microwave- the server forgot it and when we asked for it girl said check the microwave! Also, they couldn't be less enthusiastic to work there. were in boerne for the afternoon antiquing and got a little hungry. yelp reviews were good and soup/sandwich/dessert sounded good. they also have potatoes. soups change daily. both hubbie & i got 1/2 sammie w/cup of soup $8-$9. comes with chips & pickle spear. drinks under $2. meat on both sammies was plentiful & tasty - corned beef & roast beef. only negative with sandwich was the "bagged" lettuce. there must be something in the preservative that is universally used in pre-prepped lettuce that i dont like. i find the smell and taste off-putting. hubbie ate all his lettuce ;) my tomato basil soup was DE-licious! my not-so-picky hubbie pronounced the broccoli and cheese as so-so. and i had to agree. it was a bit salty and not really that flavorful. compared to the tomato it was pretty lackluster. desserts all looked yummy! $3 to $5, pies, cheesecakes and cookies. we tried the coconut cream. filling was a good consistency and tasty. crust was light and flaky - guessing shortening pastry. and the meringue was mile high and light! we also got an apple crumb pie to take home $18. it was a BIG pie! box was heavier than expected. (PS it was YUMMY!) staff was friendly. there were a steady stream of customers from 3-4 on a monday. there are 4 separate rooms to dine in, so if you dont find a table at first, keep looking! read more
