What a fun place!! It's literally in the middle of nowhere but so worth it! When you first walk in, it's kinda dark and spooky but then you go into the main finishing room that is FULL of rural southern character. All you can eat family style fun!! No it's not a Michelin star restaurant but it's Hillbilly Hideaway, what do you expect? My kids LOVED it!!! My teen son ate 6 pieces of chicken and multiple biscuits. I've always heard of this restaurant but I've never been until today. I personally loved it. It's like an old rustic cabin, with decor from my childhood. We arrived at opening today and we went straight in, were seated immediately. The waitress served our drinks as soon as we sat down. They only have Tea, lemonade or water. I went to the restroom and our food was on the table as soon as I returned. I enjoyed all of the food,no complaints from me but since I'm doing a review I will say the food is not "seasoned" as some may like. Like the pintos were fine with me but they didn't have that old fashioned southern seasoning with fatback etc... I loved the apples, hoe cake, slaw, and fried chicken. It was really good. We got our dessert to go. It does cost extra aside from the $25 all you can eat price. The only downfall to paying that price is I had my granddaughter who's 15 and a picky eater and doesn't eat but VERY small portions of one plate of food. I feel the $25 plate is way too high for someone like her. But I knew the cost before we went so I wasn't shocked. Our waitress was very friendly and on top of things. The food is home style. The service is friendly and prompt and I love the country atmosphere. Breakfast is really good here.

Horrible. What a rip off. $25 per person - which they don't tell you and isn't listed anywhere. It costed my wife, 6 year old son and me $75 plus tip to eat their tasteless food. The veggies are straight out of a low sodium can. The fish and chicken were so greasy they were wet and had no flavor. Even their gravy tasted liked water mixed with flour. Worst meal I've ever had anywhere. Service also gets a fail for not disclosing you're about to get robbed. Highly recommend going anywhere else to eat other than here... or just don't eat at all. The place also smelled bad. I don't know how they pass inspections ... I noticed when people asked for more of a certain item the server would ask them to provide their empty dish so they could refill it. If you want great home country cooking - go check out some place else... highly recommend Parker's in Stokesdale or Doss in Kernersville. read more

Finally took a ride out to Hillbilly Hideaway to see what the hype is all about. The restaurant is a nice ride from most places in the Triad and offers some nice scenery on the way there. We decided to give breakfast a try and arrived at opening. We were invited in along with the other twenty or so people who arrived at 8am to catch them early. We were seated quickly and our waitress took our drink order and explained that everything is served family style and is all you can eat. This is truly one of those places that if you go away hungry, it's your own fault. A full breakfast selection was quickly placed on our table. The selections included Hoe Cakes, scrambled eggs, sausage Pattie's, bacon, cured ham, pork tenderloin, fried potatoes, red eye gravy, sausage gravy, baked apples, and Moravian sugar cake. All the selections were great and full of flavor. This is definitely a destination type restaurant or one of this places that you take out of town visitors to. The owner came to our table, introduced herself and gave a brief history of the restaurant. She was very personable and made sure everyone was happy with the meal. Stopped by this place after a day hiking at Hanging Rock and had some of the best Southern/American food of my life!!! The atmosphere of this restaurant is also so unique. It has a log cabin kind of feel and is decorated in an old-time homey style. The servers were also so welcoming. My only regret is not coming here with a larger appetite so I could enjoy more of the food. If you're a traveler passing through the area you have to stop here! read more

This is a lot like going to a relative's house for a meal. They serve family style and there are no options other than your drink. If you're not into that type of place, don't go. Having said that, the staff was wonderful. The food was good and the atmosphere is very interesting. Lots to look at and experience here. Overall we enjoyed the meal and the experience. I did think it was a little pricey but not overly so. We'll go back some evening for dinner (did Sunday breakfast this time). I heard their fried chicken is amazing and I want to try it. read more

This restaurant is a must stop if you're in the area. We went hiking at hanging rock and then stopped by here on our way back to Winston-Salem. You pay one price for a drink and an all you can eat meal. We purposely came on a Saturday night so we could get ribs. There were 3 meats that were being served; fried chicken, ribs, and country ham. I wasn't a fan of the country ham, it was really salty. For the fried chicken, we got 2 pieces of white meat and 1 leg. It was very tasty and very moist, we asked for more dark meat. I think next time we will tell them that off the bat. I came here with my sister and we both prefer dark meat. The white meat was still very tender and moist though. The ribs were falling off the bone. I'm not a big fan of the sauce on the ribs, which I think was more Carolina style. I like more sugary, thick and a bit spicy BBQ sauce. For the sides, our favorite was the apples and the corn. We got more apples at the end of the meal, because it's also a good dessert. There was also pinto beans, green beans, and slaw; those we okay for me. For breads, there was a hoe-cake and cornbread, both nice and buttery. You can definitely get your fill of food here and the atmosphere is very unique. It had a homey vibe but all the writing on the wall made it feel a bit creepy also. We left around closing time, I think next time we will try to go earlier and check out the music hall. read more

Okay, it's been a while since I had been back because it's a bit out of the way but two weeks ago we hit it up again. The layout and set up is the same here but the food has improved. Everything was traditional, classic, southern comfort food and was made just the way your mom or grandma would make it. Our service was terrific as well. I took some of my friends from England because they wanted to most authentic place to eat classic American southern food. This was the most authentic place I could think of. They didn't know what everything was but man they loved it all. It's still a bit pricey but considering it's all you can eat, you really can't expect more. read more

The good news is that its worth what you pay for it where that if were only warm (hot too much to hope for.) This is rather poorly seasoned simple food but no where near its best. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars and not 2 is the service (very efficient while not very warm) and the food for what it is was good. In the south, creamed corn and cornbread of any kind are a personal taste thing. So sugar or no sugar. They didn't put much sugar so out for me on the bread and hoecakes and creamed corn. Potatoes were real but a bit overwhipped and gummy bug good. I thought it said chicken gravy on a menu I saw. I saw no evidence of chicken gravy (the best thing in the world) so don't get excited. This place has a "heavy" atmosphere if you are energy sensitive and you will know what I mean. The bathroom is rough but clean, the shower curtain is weird if there were other people in there and there is no room between the toilet and your head but again...it is very small and don't think a door could open in there, hence the shower curtains in the bathrooms. Hey, it could be an outhouse. The tea was a bit weak for me but could just be the batches they had to make. I would post pictures but the pic I had was just the spread on the table and that was covered here. I'm going to go through what I had and give my food comments then wrap it up. Tche chicken was really good, I didn't have an issue with it and disagree with the comments here. The ham was good, the meatloaf was really good with a nice tomato sauce. The beans and pinto beans were typical southern prepared. The apples were awesome awesome and the only thing we had refills of (we had 3 people) but I was tired from hiking and not very hungry. I already told you about the corn bread, hoe cakes and creamed corn. This is a lot of food and they are very good about refilling drinks and you can bring your drink out with you which I liked. Now, the negative part. I was sticker shocked! I would have guessed 12 dollars for the quality of that meal...it wasn't amazing, it was simple food decently prepared. It includes your drink but desert is extra. I don't mind paying 50 a meal or more but that is budgeted for. It is my fault although I think the drink people should tell you the price or it should be posted. Technically I think they might be breaking some contract law and should probably protect themselves from some weirdness that could eventually happen. After a tip, the three of us were out over 60.00. You just have to see this place...graffiti on the walls, sold your soul old country musician pictures...just not a 20 dollar a plate place. I honestly think at least desert should be included (which was 3 things). I also think they should have a pick your one plate option where for 10 dollars you get one plate of the food. So. buyer beware. Simple but clean bathrooms. Good but overpriced food but plenty to fill your belly after a fun day hiking or on the lake! And its a niche place. A nice break from all the chain restaurants. I hope for their sake they stay in business but staff needs to act like they want a nice tip and not bored out of their living minds. I don't think restaurants should be a one hit wonder but they probably survive off the random tourist. I won't be back. read more

I live just up the street from this place. I have eaten in there twice and have taken out food 3 times. All I can say is you get so much more by just going there, it is all you can eat!! The atmosphere is rustic and interesting. Service is great. You will be so stuffed if you eat in that you will need a serious nap after. The fired chicken is ooooh sooooo goood! The only thing I can give them a negative about is their green beans, their canned. Everything else is off the hook awesome. Wish they were opened all week! Wonderful staff and it is usually packed! The fried fish tonight was delicious. The fried chicken breast was pretty tough, but the legs were great and the batter is tasty. The green beans were good, doctored up canned variety. The pinto beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy were all okay. But the cinnamon apples and hoe cakes are fabulous. The country ham is good in all it's salty goodness and the cornbread was very moist. Perfect sweet tea to wash it all down and great service from a friendly staff. Bring a marker to write your name on the walls. Be sure to check out the shower curtain for a stall door. Live music in the barn on Saturday nights, gospel and blues. read more

Greeting was great at door and server great but all other employees drink servers etc not in good moods for breakfast. Helps to have everyone cheerful in the morning. Food very good but very very expensive for light eaters. We paid for all the heavy eaters to eat. I recommend that they have a one serving price much like one trip to salad bar price. $48 for 3 to eat breakfast without tip too much without memorable experience. Have heard a lot about it and that you will never leave unsatisfied and they were right the food was great except for the cole slaw don't know what they put in it but other than that ate everything on the first course and got a second of hoe cake. The food was not highly seasoned but no where bland really didn't need to add anything but pepper to balance the flavors. Just a small bite of country ham with everything and you had your salt the baked apples and cornbread gave you the sweet. My family and I visited here again today and I will say this will be our last time. We knew the price per person in advance but in all honesty, for beans, corn and such it is just priced way too high, especially when the food is room temperature. Aside from those complaints, I do not understand not being able to at least take the food home that's on your table, if it's not a re-order. If you go to other restaurants and pay 17.75 per person, even for a 12 year old, you at least have food leftover to take home. Considering this place is in the middle of nowhere.... maybe rethinking the prices and or rules would be a good idea. Cracker Barrel is a comparable meal for a lot less money! read more

I don't eat red meat or chicken which just leaves seafood, veggies, and beans, and on the Friday at this place they served me the BEST white fish fried I'd ever eaten. On top of that, one of the sides was beans! Four different servers were constantly checking up on my table. I had such a warm first experience. Travelled here for the first time on an early Sunday evening and was politely greeted by the server. One ticket written up for our meals and drinks were served right away. Five to ten minutes later my family of five was served plates of meatloaf, fried chicken, ham, "real" mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, pinto beans, warm-spiced apples, and homemade cornbread. The food was outstanding - very flavorful, freshly cooked, and while they were willing to serve more (all you can eat), we were stuffed. We will definitely return -- likely on a Friday or Saturday evening, or Sunday morning in order to experience their different blends of home-cooked goodness. read more

The fried chicken had no flavor, the ham was tough, the creamed corn was well not creamy, their chicken gravy was the consistency of water, their infamous "hoe cakes"/ "biscuits" were terrible they tasted like straight flour. About the only good things were green beans, mashed potatoes and apples and I'm sorry I would not pay 20$/ person for a couple okay veggies. I absolutely loved this place. It's rustic atmosphere was welcoming. We were told there was a wait but it was only 5 minutes. There were 4 of us in our party for lunch. The food that was predetermined by what time of day you were there was brought out in individual bowls and plates. There were 3 different meats and a bunch of country sides. Their corn bread was the best I have ever had. We were offered dessert choices but none of could eat another thing. The service was out of this world!!!!!
