This newish eatery in Haymarket definitely deserves a visit. The decor is bright and classically comfortable with high back leather chairs & polished tables. The menu is full of aromatic and delicious dishes. There are 4 levels of spice so you can get just the right heat for everyone. They have a full bar with a very nice house Pinot Grigio. The staff is friendly and professional. Our waitress made sure we understood what we were ordering. Also had Lamb Chops marinated in yogurt and a mix of tandoori spices, then cooked in a clay oven until tender and slightly charred. Awesome. Outstanding food and service! The food was authentic to the core! I'm not even Nepalese or Indian, yet I felt at home with a home cooked meal. I tried almost everything, tandoori chicken, chicken masala, butter chicken (do you not like the butter chicken!?), lamb, garlic naan, and finished off with the rice pudding. I think i have a new favorite restaurant!!! I just tried this place for the first time. As soon as you walk in, you are treated like a guest in their home. The staff is very warm welcoming and very attentive. They were super helpful with the menu selections, as well. The menu is amazing. The decor is really nice. You can dine alone or have a family or date night here. They also offer take out. The outdoor patio is very nice, too. My food was amazing and fair priced. I will certainly come back!! We came here for dinner with friends and have been coming back ever since-- drove from Fairfax today to get takeout. Gives us our indian foodie fix in delicious ways with excellent spicing and flavors (and not too oily or bland like some). We can specify heat level for each dish. Everything we ordered was just too delicious, starting from the momos and chicken chilli to butter chicken and lamb curry was mouthwatering delicious. My family was passing through Haymarket last evening on the way to a concert. We were in a time crunch, so we peeked inside and decided we may not have time to eat there since it didn't appear to be "fast food." On the way out, we were called back by the management and asked how we could be helped. They assured us they could feed us and get our family back on the road quickly. They most definitely delivered on their promise. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was fresh, made to order, and very tasty. Although we don't live very close to the area, we will definitely stop there again when we are passing through. We can't wait to take our time, study the menu and try more dishes. Easily the best indian food in the area. Super hard to come by food like this out of a little place like this. Dine-in is great. Decor is nice and illustrates the culture. Always looking for new places to try, my friend and I landed on the relatively new Himalayan Grill. The restaurant is styled in the manner of a Himalayan chalet and the interior is welcoming and open with a high vaulted ceiling and comfortable cushioned chairs at the various table arrangements. The menu had so many choices of Nepali and Indian appetizers, korma, mains, desserts, traditional drinks and specials it was difficult to choose. My friend chose the Butter Chicken and Butter Naan but I'm a bit more of a challenge because of a garlic allergy. The waitress tried to help me navigate the menu and was careful to check with the chef to be sure we found garlic-free options, but we found it difficult to identify much on the menu. The waitress then called in the Manager to help. The manager quickly showed me exactly which dishes were garlic free. I ordered the Nepali Chicken Chowmein and a Spinach Chat share plate for my friend and I. I was blown away by the Spinach Chat, really wonderful mix of sweet, salty, and sour flavors with crispy and crunchy textures, very unusual and very satisfying. The Nepali Chicken Chowmein was a tasty and very generous portion of stir fried egg noodles tossed with cabbage, bell peppers, chicken and spices. Unfortunately, my Naan of choice was Aloo Paratha which was made with a spice paste which included garlic so it was a non-starter and instead I ordered the plain Naan, but it was also very good. My friend's couldn't stop talking about how tasty the Butter Chicken was and she also ordered what she described as a perfectly sweetened Mango Lassi. I ordered San Pellegrino and it came without the bottle, pre-poured. I would suggest bringing the guest the full bottle with the empty glass. There was so much food, we both had enough leftovers for another meal. Overall, I was quite impressed by the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food and drink. But I was most impressed by the effort made by the entire staff to help me find garlic free lunch options. Thank you so much. This place goes on my list permanently! read more
