Absolutely loved the food here. The momos and chowmein were perfectly spiced and flavorful--just the right street-style Indo-Chinese taste I was craving. Even the biryanis and chicken curry were impressive, with rich flavors and great portion sizes. A great spot if you're craving both Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes done right. Been visiting since 10 Years! P.S: some construction work going on inside the dining area.

We ordered food for catering. They promised us food at 5:30 PM and they were not ready with the food till 6 PM. The staff was so unprofessional (they were literally swearing saying they're overwhelmed with orders) and they said they reopen at 5PM so they were late which made us wonder why they would agree to 5:30 PM. They hurriedly prepared the dishes and the packing was so bad that the curry leaked in my car. I spent more getting the car cleaned than the entire catering order. On a side note, the food was tasty though. Just need some more professionally behaved staff.

8/7/24 Himalayan Kitchen 820 E El Camino Real Ste C Mountain View, CA 94040 We tried this for lunch on a Wednesday. It's in a setback strip mall so there's lots of parking in front. They offer a lunch buffet and I asked if they had Naan which was brought to our table after we filled our plates. The interior is a cozy table setup and was fairly full while we were there. The buffet choices had many standard offerings like Tandoori Chicken and they had my favorite, Goat Curry. The bone in goat was very meaty and the gravy was not very spicy. Overall the flavor of the food was on the mild but tasty side. Service was helpful and good. I paid with cash at the counter and got a discount. It's a good value and repeatable.

Curry Goat Curry, Garlic Naan (2 pcs), Butter Chicken, biryani (I forget which one)

Food is amazing. The Nann is very large. Service was very attentive and friendly. I saw they also had Buffett I believe on the weekends? Nice. Love this spot

Big. Bang. For. Your. Buck! This massive dosa I got from Himalayan Kitchen was only $9 and it made me (a pretty big eater) quite full! I can't think of the last time I've ever spent less than $10 at a restaurant and left me satisfied the way this amazing Madras Masala Dosa did. The service and ambiance was also on point as the servers attended to my every need. I am 100% coming back here to try out their Himalayan Special Tandoori. Everybody driving by the Mountain View and Sunnyvale area must give this place a try, you will not regret it!

My friend and I were experiencing a particularly strong craving for Indian food and came across Himalayan Kitchen! We went on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and were seated promptly for their Indian buffet. It cost $25 per person, and you get a slight discount if you pay with cash. I was pretty impressed with the selection of dishes they had. Some of the dishes that I immediately remember are butter chicken, tandoori chicken, paneer tikka masala, goat curry, chicken, curry, spinach daal, biryani, tindora fry, chaat, and more. They also bring you as much naan as you want to the table. For drinks, they had mango lassi, chai, and sodas. Finally, they also had a decent selection of desserts. I think the selection slightly varies on the day. I thought the food was all super solid. It definitely hit the spot but didn't blow me away necessarily. I enjoyed eating everything and enjoyed the amount of variety they had. I was nowhere close to eating my money's worth, but I was still quite content at being able to try so many different things. Overall, I recommend this place! I will probably be back for their buffet whenever my next craving hits (which will probably be pretty soon). Service was fine as well, and the environment was standard. I think the only strange thing was their floor was weirdly slippery.

Good food, generous portion, reasonable pricing. Vijayawada Boneless Chicken Dum Biryani - highly recommend if you love spicy food. Very flavorful and it has a great kick. The portion is huge and it could easily be split into three meals. If it's too spicy, just dilute it with the raita and it'd still taste great. If you can't handle any spice at all, I'd recommend staying away because it's pretty spicy. Chicken 65 - highly recommend. It was crispy and addicting. The onion surprisingly pairs very well with the chicken (as in, eat it in the same bite). Andhra Spicy Dosa - the dosa was bigger than I expected (this was my first time having dosa). I didn't like the curry dip that came on the side, but everything else (dosa itself, the potato filling, and the other sauces) was great. Momo - I enjoyed it. It's not the best out there, but it's still tasty. Chicken Tikka Masala - just okay; I've had better

The veg chow mein and the gobi manchurian were good. But veg momos were a disappointment. The restaurant has a very average ambience.

I originally wanted tacos (which was unavailable) but noticed this food truck instead. For reference, I've never tried Nepalese/Indo-Chinese food, so I figured I would give it a shot. The guy running the food truck is soft-spoken but was able to provide suggestions. When I asked what was popular, he told me that people try the dumplings, so I ordered one (1), which come in a set of 8. Each one is about the size of two quarters in diameter (for scale). It comes with sauces on the spicy side. I figured that alone wasn't enough to alleviate my hunger pangs, so I ordered the Paneer Chow Mein and Mango Lassi, too. My order came out after 15 minutes. In the meantime, I waited under the tent that was stationed with a dining table next to the truck. Paneer Chow Mein - 6/10. Tastes like your average standard Chow Mein. I didn't know what paneer was, but after a quick Google search, it's cheese with the look, texture and taste of tofu. I ate enough to send me into a food coma. The guy packed plenty into the container (and I barely made a dent), so I rated it higher. Chicken Momo (Dumplings) - 7/10. What you'd expect of a chinese steamed dumpling but with a slight twist. I don't have a diverse culinary palate, but there was a hint of a curry(esque) flavor in the filling. Delicious with the sauces. Mango Lassi - 1000000/10. I am a sweet tooth and woah....I absolutely love this drink. It is an Indian mango yogurt drink that is not too thick or sickly sweet. It has a thick consistency and was perfect to have during the summer as a dessert. It was about $4 for 12oz but I had to order another one for the road because it is exactly what I needed. Overall, I would stop by again if I needed something to curb my empty stomach.

Not to mention it was very fairly priced and lasted us both for two meals. Not to mention, especially in the South Bay, most Nepalese/Himalayan restaurants heavily feature Indian food. Rara stands out to me because Nepali food is absolutely the star here. Anita was able to provide recommendations as I made sure to get chicken hot pot, mixed sizzler, buffalo momos, shrimp curry, roti, yogurt, masala tea, and a bunch of other options for family style. The hotpot was a fav from China. The team worked well together, were friendly, helpful and gave us dedicated service because we beat the dinner rush on a Saturday. As the place got full, as Anita was the point person for new recommendations, it might help for more of the team to also be able to provide recommendations. It might help, to ask if guests would need help with the menu. Maybe a dinner set would help, especially if it was the group's first time for this type of cuisine.

But we were undeterred and ordered anyway. I'd gotten the palak paneer, my favorite Indian dish and my usual basis for comparison, with kulcha naan and it was okay, but nothing to really write home about. The palak paneer was a bit sweeter than I had expected, but other than that, just fine. My coworker and I also split vegetable pakora that came with a somewhat spicy sauce (I am a spice wimp, but he is very much not), and those were pretty good. I don't quite remember what my coworker got as his main, maybe one of the dal dishes, but he also thought it was fine. The location itself is pretty small, and seems to be more for takeout than sit down diners, although that is what we did. Parking was pretty easy in the plaza, but that might be because the pizza place next door appeared to be closed? Things felt slightly dingy, but I think maybe in truth things were just a bit worn, right down to the Corelle plates which seemed like they had been in service for a long time. Decor is pretty sparse, but the lady behind the counter was nice enough when we were ordering. Overall, not a bad experience, but also not much of a draw for me. But if you like your Indian food a little on the sweeter side, maybe this is the place for you.
