So happy to come during soft-opening week! It used to be Great Tiger so for the most part it has remained the same--just under new management team. A few new updated items on the menu. Was very pleased they had Tonkatsu Ramen--broth was delicious! I like to get "no spicy" my 1st time so I can really test and taste the broth. I also chose the combo which includes a small Asian side salad (dressing could be a tad stronger or thicker) and choice of small-sized bowl of Donburi. I got the Donburi Beef w/sunny side yolk on top. I highly recommend ordering the combo. It's same price if you added an appetizer with your Ramen, but you get a lil more. My Husband ordered the Black Garlic Ramen--similar item menu from when it was previously Great Tiger Ramen, so I'm glad that didn't change! Friendly staff--very attentive and kept checking on us. This can easily be our go-to spot for good Ramen in this area of Long Beach! Also consider staying open an extra hour later. Everything in LB closes early at 9pm or 10pm. New ramen shop alert! I noticed Hinata Ramen while driving up to LBX, and as a self proclaimed ramen expert, I made time to stop by. The interior is nice and cozy with warm colored walls and limited seating. The menu was simple and straightforward. Good selection of appetizers, ramen, and donburis (rice bowls). They even have a combo option that comes with house salad, a ramen and a mini donburi, which is what I ended up doing. I ordered the tsukemen with hamburg donburi, eggplant katsu, and my friends ordered the miso ramen spicy with a black cod donburi. Tsukemen is a dipping ramen where the noodles and broth are served separately so your noodles stay nice and bouncy. The texture of the noodles were so chewy and firm, which i absolutely love. The broth had a really rich flavor to it so every dip was packed with umami. The hamburg donburi was also delish. The size was perfect for a side. It came with fluffy omelet and demiglaze sauce with a good balance of salty and sweet. The eggplant katsu was a surprise delight for me. It was perfectly fried and crispy. It was served with ponzu which I was skeptical about at first but it's actually a very good pairing. The citrus flavor brings a lightness to the fried goodness. The spicy miso ramen was standard. Good level of spice, but not too over powering. What really stood out for me were the oyster mushrooms. Most ramen use woodear mushrooms, but here its oyster mushrooms. They're a lot more meaty and they soak up all the delicious broth! Last but not least the black cod donburi. Delicious. The cod was so incredibly soft and flaky. Also served with egg and green onions, surprising amount of flavor. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered and service was prompt and friendly. Best veggie ramen I have ever had. Hands down. Super flavorful miso broth. Great assortment and volume of veg. The tofu is tempura fried and nice and crispy when it first comes out, so I recommend pulling it off and eating it on the side to maintain that texture. The staff were friendly and attentive. They even had complementary edamame and hot tea! Try the sparkling yuzu too! What a tasty treat. We live in San Diego but we were visiting for the AVP tournament and have now added this as a planned stop for future trips. Parking is tough, but the wait was well worth it. YUM!! read more

I started my journey to find Great Tiger Ramen in Lakewood. I found this place but he sign was different. I saw someone try to talk to some people outside so I decide to give it a try. A person dressed in a suit took our order. I asked specifically if the ramen was miso or tonkotsu based, the server was not japanese and uttered something like misoktsu which made no sense. I wanted to make sure it wasn't shio or dashi based and they had nothing like that on the menu. But when I got my ramen, it was obviously dashi based and I couldn't eat it. I let them know which they did nothing about, they almost charged me for another table but luckily they caught it. Disappointed, and the menu and service as is will not survive. read more
