Yesterday, I was scrambling all over North Dallas/Plano/Richardson looking for the perfect apartment. I looked high and lo, and then I finally found the one I liked. (Yay, I move next month. Raise. the. Roof. Woof.) As I'm leaving said appointment in preparation to celebrate, my car conks out. I thought it was in need of coolant; purchased coolant. No, that's not it. Thought my car needed a few hours to chill. Went to Starbucks. Chilled. No, that wasn't it either. Ended up getting two jumpstarts. My car made it partway down 75 South before it completely shut off. I ended up getting my car towed home, then looked up places to go. Hinga's Automotive stuck out because of the positive reviews. Even the very unfavorable one seemed overrun by the positive reactions to be had by this company's service. I called them at 9. Hinga himself answered. He said if I brought the car, he'd be ready to look at it. Well, I got it towed to the shop, waited 20 minutes, and he explained my battery was dead. They were going to charge it, then provide a diagnostic because it seemed my alternator had gone bad. Soooooo it was a lot of waiting and walking around the block... and the estimate was pretty high but I got my car fixed and it is what it is. They charged for the battery getting charged (I didn't know that was being charged, but whatever!) All I know is Hinga handled my car and fixed it - like a boss. And now I'm driving... and I'll more than likely be back to get my thermostat housing handled. All in all, Hinga was quick and respectful. Short version: Do NOT use this shop. Long version: Needed several simple items + a welding job done for my 1982 Jeep. Called around a couple of weeks before I needed the work done, and selected Hinga based on their promise they'd store it inside and have everything done in 1-2 weeks. The Jeep was there for about 4 MONTHS. There were a couple of very short legitimate delays due to needing parts, but the rest was just spent giving me excuses on why they hadn't gotten to it, along with false promises they would soon. On the single occasion I mentioned to Hinga that it had been there for nearly three months (at that time) he actually attempted to gaslight me, as if I could somehow be made to believe it my my fault. The conversation took such a ridiculous turn that I politely ended it, saying I would not have that discussion with him we would have to start from scratch another day. Lesson learned -- it's not worth it to bring the timeline up with Hinga. I finally got my Jeep back, though without all of the work done, because he said he lost the list. Well, he "lost" in the the car because when I picked unit up his original handwritten list was in the floorboard. Whatever, I was tired of not having my Jeep all year, and figured I could find another shop to finish the rest later. So once there to pick it up, Joy (Hinga's daughter) had the technician Juan walk it with me to confirm which of the original list items had actually been done so she'd know which to charge me for. He was incredibly rude to me about having to do that. I suggested to Joy that he not talk to clients, as he's clearly not built for it. I get it home and realize it won't start on every turn of the key, and this eventually worsened until it would not start at all. They had worked in the steering column, so I figured it to be related. Also, my rear brakes were squealing and seizing up (dangerous), and they had been in those attempting to tighten the parking brake. I also had lots of weird new electrical gremlins, and they had done some wiring. Also, they did a welding job on frame sections and spot/tack welds were used instead of the continuous seam required -- a huge safety issue. All issues were related to the work they had finally performed, so I figured I'd have to take it back to them to get it fixed without paying twice, to which they agreed. I asked Hinga not to have me bring it down until he would be able to work on it. I took it in on a Tuesday morning after calling him and getting doubly assured he would do the work that week. MORE THAN TEN WEEKS OF EXCUSES LATER, I finally ran out of patience and wanted it back. So they threw together an estimate of over $800 worth of other work I hadn't asked for, including a full brake job that the thing had received about 400 miles prior. Nice try. So all they had done in that ten weeks was to put an ignition in to so they move it around their shop, and nothing else. Joy tried passing off the lie that they had gone through and replaced "every part we replaced the fist time" because they warranty their work blahblahblah. I knew this wasn't true from my conversations with her dad, who was at least honest about not ever having started on it. She didn't charge me for the $119 ignition, suggesting that "if you feel that way, I don't want to charge you". I don't *feel* that way, Joy, it *happened* that way, to the letter. My jeep was there for over 6 months this year for work that totaled fewer than 20 hours of labor, so I spent over 5 months without my vehicle and while getting lame excuses/lies from the two of you. FACTS. From that first day back, the ignition switch they installed would not allow the lock cylinder to turn smoothly --clearly installed incorrectly and given back to me with an obvious issue. Just a few weeks later, it's now completely failed. The Jeep is stuck at the top of a parking garage in downtown. So that's what I got out of the second ten weeks. So... unless you're into excuses, condescension, lies, and faulty work... you'll likely regret doing business with them. read more

I have no idea how this place has five stars on here. I bought a used car that needed a new windshield wiper motor, the shocks needed to be replaced, and it had a coolant leak. I looked around on Yelp and saw how highly rated Hinga's shop was so I decided to stop by and get an estimate. I was told by Mr. Hinga himself that it would cost $180 ($90 for the new motor, $90 for labor). That seemed fine but I wanted a second opinion. Another mechanic was going to charge me $200, and another was going to charge even more than that, so Hinga seemed like the right choice. After a week I returned to Hinga, told him I was still interested in having the windshield wipers fixed for the $180 he quoted before, and that I would like him to give me an estimate on how much it would cost to fix the coolant leak. He asked me to come back the next morning because they were busy. Fair enough. I came back, told him again what I needed, and walked to the bus to get home (a very LONG walk btw). I get a call about four hours later saying that the windshield wiper repair will be $300, the coolant leak repair will be $200, and that my shocks need to be replaced. I politely told him that that was too much for me and that I would be picking up my car later that day. When I returned to pick up my car (after another VERY long walk), the receptionist (who I believe is Mr. Hinga's wife) informed me that I owed $70. Now, I don't know much about auto repair, but this didn't seem right. I asked what the charge was for. She laughed and said that they had to take apart my windshield wipers and were going to fix it, but then I told them not to, so they had to spend all of that time putting it back together again, AND they estimated the price for the coolant leak fix, AND they informed me of my shocks problem. I politely said that I only brought the car to them because I had been told it was going to be $180, and that I already knew about the shocks and never asked them to take a look at that. She asked Hinga to come into the conversation and he said that the $70 is for the time it took them to take apart the wipers and then put it back together. I, again, told them that I only asked them to not fix it because they raised the price on me by over $100 and that I could not afford that. He then recanted his story and said, "No no no, nobody is talking about the wipers. It's for the coolant. You asked me to look at the leak." I said that I already knew the problems the car had. I knew exactly what was wrong, I just needed an estimate. He said "Yes yes. That's what the money is for." They would not return my keys to me unless I paid the $70. This place is a scam. Looking back, I should have threatened to call the authorities, something that I have NEVER done before, but I just paid $70 and still have a car with three major problems. Nothing was fixed. The cost for the estimate was nearly half the price for the repair itself. What is the point of getting an estimate then? How is it my fault that they initially miscalculated how much the windshield repair would cost? Please, save yourself the trouble and do not take your car to this place. Mr. Hinga and his wife seem like very welcoming and amiable people, but they made it clear to me that they want your money, and that's it. This man is the truth!!! I came into town from San Antonio and my front tire started making a humming sound. I was pretty sure it was my bearings since I had this problem with a different tire back in SA. I show up at Hingas and he confirmed the bearings were shot. He also pointed out other problems (that I was aware of but never fixed). He changed bearings and wheel hubs on two tires, an axel and rotor. I expected an invoice for about $1200. I had been looking for a new mechanic after moving to Downtown Dallas. I took my 1997 Chevy S10 to them and told them about the "clunking" sound it made when I was making a turn. I was skeptical, since THREE other mechanics had failed to locate the source on as many separate occasions. Well, Mr. Hinga found the source! Apparently, my ball joints were so badly worn, it had actually become dangerous. Mr. Hinga repaired both front ball joints, replaced the shocks and balanced the tires. Because my car has an aftermarket gps/stereo, I didn't feel comfortable leaving it outside of the gates of his shop. Hinga did an absolutely wonderful job of fixing my 2003 Dodge Durango! What a pleasure it is to deal with an auto repair shop that does what they say, on time and at a price that is very fair. I called Hinga the day my radiator failed and was able to get it to his shop just before it overheated again. He quoted me a price that broke down both the labor and parts and it was hundreds of $ less than PepBoys. He had my Durango fixed by the same afternoon. I used him before to fix my A/C and it was just as pleasant an experience as this one. One thing I noticed was how neat and orderly he keeps his shop. Everything is in its place and there isn't any mess anywhere. I suppose that's not always a sign of a good shop, but in this case I think it shows how organized and professional he is. Took my truck there On Saturday to patch the tire, we could not find the lug nut lock. The young man told me he could knock off the lock and put a regular lug nut back on after he patched the tire. I had to ask my boyfriend if that was ok. He met me up at tire shop. He agreed to patch the tire and asked if they could go ahead and knock all 4 lock nuts off since he was going to Austin and didn't want to get a flat and not be able to fix it. When they were done they pulled the truck outside and * NO LUG NUTS* were replaced. So I asked where were the lug nuts. His reply was " no where in our conversation did I ever saw I would replace the lug nuts. Then he replied " oh it is not safe to drive with only 4 lug nuts when you are supposed to have 5, oh and the only place to get them is the Dodge house which is closed today. I had been having an insane over heating issue with my Durango. I went to a Pep boys near me and they halfway diagnosed the issue. I looked online and found Hinga's. All the reviews as of late have been great and gave me a boost of confidence. I called and Mr.Hinga invited me to come in. I waited in the waiting area as one their techs dug into the engine bay and began trouble shooting over the next couple of hours. They wanted to try several things before chalking it up to a $2000 job. Turns out the thermostat was faulty and my bill went from $2000 to $130. Anytime I have to go to a car dealership or mechanic shop for car repair services, I always get nervous because of past bad experiences and also the fear of being ripped off for poor services and bad car repair jobs. Recently, I towed my vehicle to Hingas dealership at the recommendation of my mom's "friend". On Thursday, one of the mechanics had called us and told us that the auto fuse and vehicle has been repaired and it would cost $214. I was happy that I would be able to pay for a simple auto repair job and planned on getting my vehicle back the very next day. However, the very next day, the same mechanic guy called and said that the cost would be approximately $960. I was appalled! I couldn't understand how my car repair costs went from $214 to $960. It just doesn't make sense! This is indicative of shady behavior indeed. One thing that is a fact for sure is that shady businesses that purposefully rip off people and indulge in unscrupulous behaviors will eventually fail within their industry. They will not last long nor survive by purposefully engaging in unethical practices. Long story short, I was able to pay for the inaccurate manipulated, inflated car repair costs with the help of my mom. I will never come to this shady unethical car place for repair services again and I do not recommend anyone coming to this place, especially if you are a woman because they will try their best to rip you off from your hard-earned money. My advice to women in need of car repair services is to go to the dealership or car mechanic shops with your man or your husbands to help prevent yourselves from being scammed and ripped off from your hard-earned money. Ill start out by saying Mr. Hinga is an extremely nice person, I really wanted to leave a great review after meeting him but sadly my experience was just really bad. Left my car with Hinga expecting to have it back within a couple of days. After a couple of days went by, I called Hinga to ask if they have figured out whats wrong with it. He said he would call me back in 5 minutes. The rest of the day no call. I called back the next day... "Ill call back in 5 minutes." Made about 50 calls with the same "ill call back in 5 minutes" or "we are about to look at it" response over the course 2 weeks with maybe 2 call backs. Asked about 5-6 times to get an email with a quote. Finally showed up 3 weeks later to get the car after it was "ready" and none of the electrical components were working and the check engine light was on. Sadly it was a huge waste of time, time to find another shop to fix it after spending $525 and 3 weeks with no car. read more
