I ordered 3 fried catfish dinner which comes with white bread and fries, chicken legs with sweet potatoes and green beans. Let's start with the fish; I'm pretty sure 2 of the fish were not catfish. Second the fish was awful! The outside was crispy, the inside mushy. Not flaky at all! The green beans were left out of my order and there was some white residue on the chicken legs. Came here to get some chicken and fish. Hip Hop has a few locations in the Baltimore area. Upon arriving, the store was clean. We placed our order with a pleasant young man and got the five legs and four wings with fries and the 3 piece lake trout and fries (included coleslaw). The service was good: our order was ready in a decent amount of time. The chicken was fresh, not greasy with a nice crispy bite. The fries were golden brown and good. I always order from here when im just too tired to cook and need something quick. I shouldn't be eating fried foods but its better than traditional "fast food". I only really order the Whiting meal with 3-4 pieces and fries. The fish is always good...the fries are sometimes soggy. Only gripe is they only give you one tarter and one hot sauce with such a large order. I use Uber eats so there's no way to pay for more.other than that I recommend it! I just wish they'd offer wheat bread as an alternative to white. Baltimore is known for their infamous "chicken box" and while I have a few favorite spots located in the city, Hip Hop is my go-to. I typically call my order in and I promise you, no matter what or how much I order, my order is ready for pick-up within 15 minutes. The chicken is always fresh and fried perfectly and you never get the hint of that terrible "old grease" taste which you sometimes get from other fried chicken carry-outs. Now, I must admit, I can do without the soggy fries that the serve. I would rarely eat them whenever I ordered my chicken boxes. Very good portion. I've only ever order online from here via DoorDash or ubereats. The chicken always come freshly cooked, very crispy and the portion sizes are generous and fairly priced. The seasoning blend is good here a little sweet and salty. I usually use the leftover to coat in some homemade sauce and it makes for a great second day meal! This is about the Hip Hop on N Caroline St. I have eaten her 3 times in the last 2 months. I am sorry each time the food was a D-, today's was an F. One of the pieces of chicken was not cooked fully, seriously raw chicken? They put so much on their salted seasoning I couldn't actually taste anything. Only thing was good was the Cole Slaw. Hip Hop Fish and Chicken is a chain that serves some great fried food!! This one is located on route 40 a little after the planet fitness. Really easy to miss! I used to work in the area and got to try them a couple of times. One of my favorite things to get is the catfish nuggets. They are freaking delicious!! Fried perfect and has a great crisp to them. I usually get the pick 2 deal where you pick 2 meats and get fries, bread and coleslaw. I almost always get the catfish nuggets and usually chicken tenders. Their fries are also delicious. They're really crispy like checkers fries. The pick 2 is about $10-11. It used to be cheaper from what I remember but you do get a good amount of food. Bottom Line Up Front: This ain't it. Came looking for good fried chicken. that means crispy, crunchy, spicy breading, encasing juicy chicken. Maybe served alongside coleslaw and fries or a biscuit, and for dessert some cobbler or banana pudding. The wings were small, dry, and bland. The breading was soggy, as were the fries. The coleslaw (included in the combo) was just plain missing. The banana pudding was canned. Maybe I should have expected less from a chain, but after years of good luck at Popeyes and years of driving past one Hip Hop or another and thinking, "Man, I gotta try that place, I wonder how it is?"-- I did, and now, to my chagrin, I know. Super delish and a HUGE portion that the two of us cannot finish in one sitting. We also enjoy the whiting platters. Everything comes with all the condiments...gotta have the hot sauce...lol! They also serve half and half to wash all the chicken and fish down. They have assorted desserts. I've tried several...but those are just ok. *The banana pudding is just pudding and vanilla wafers...no actual bananas in this dessert. I also go to this hip hop when I am hosting events and they graciously accommodate my large orders. My large orders come packaged and vented properly (so I don't end up with soggy fish or chicken from the steam). They also help me carry the large orders to my car and arrange them so they don't fall over. They have handled orders for over 300 pieces of chicken and 150 pieces of fish with just over a day's notice for me. Awesome service...awesome food! read more

I chose the 2-piece chicken breast meal (it comes with fries and coleslaw) and a 20-ounce half and half, while the Love of My Life chose a modest 3-wing and fries meal. The staff was so pleasant and nice to us that they threw in an extra serving of coleslaw for free. I think they were happy to see us sit down in there and enjoy it. That's one thing about this place - a lot of traffic, but everyone's carrying it out. I opened my meal box to see two HUGE, ginormous pieces of chicken breast and a mountain of fries. Holy crap. How am I going to eat all this? In addition, there were two slices of white bread poking out from underneath. Oh, wow. I take a bite of the chicken breast. Good God. It's salty, crispy, NOT greasy. The meat is tender and juicy. This is heaven in a styrofoam box. The fries are crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. Dipped in their thick hot sauce, it's insanely delicious. The half and half is incredibly sweet, a perfect compliment to the salt on the chicken and fries. Finally, the coleslaw. If this slaw is as I think it is, this is an automatic five-star rating, no question. Chomp. Oh, my Lord, yes. Sweet dressing, crispy cabbage pieces. I don't even need to question how my boyfriend's liking his meal - this is five stars. Period. It doesn't matter what he says. :D He liked his meal, as well, though he did make mention that the chicken was a bit saltier than he'd expected. He didn't like the coleslaw much, but that's okay - more for me. The shock was the price - a mere eleven dollars for two meals. Two huge, ginormous, GARGANTUAN meals! Epic, epic, epic, EPIC WIN. We noticed the traffic coming in and out of there while eating - this place never. slows. down. Ever. There was a lull that lasted for maybe five minutes before the insanity of yet more crowds came in. And it wasn't even peak dinner hours. I can't imagine what this place is like between 6 and 8pm on a weekend. I have eaten my LAST chicken piece from Royal Farms. Royal Farms can't even compare to the glory that is this meat.
