Really enjoy this salon! Everyone is genuinely nice and wants to make your hair look nice. I got bangs to change up the look, and was very nervous since I hadn't had them for years. Jill was amazing and taught me how to style and take care of them. Ivette did my color and was equally as amazing. Was looking for a new place in the suburbs after moving from Chicago and think this will be it.

Can't say enough about your group of stylists. I've been going to the Hip for probably 20years, I guess. Before that I went to Heidi's in Woodfield. I absolutely love your color specialists. Jeanine colored my hair for the first time and I was very happy with the way it turned out. I wanted low lights in my hair and was what I expected. I could get even more contrast in the future if I decide to. The vibe was much better here than the last place I went to for about a year. I felt like I belonged here. It was not cliquish like the other place where I felt out of place. I felt comfortable and staff at the front desk was very friendly. My former salon took 3 hours to do my hair. She was multi-tasking other Polish friends. HIP salon took just over 2 hours, the normal amount of time. Everyone was very professional and its a well established business. read more

Danielle is funny super friendly and cuts my hair beautifully. Lilly the assistant gives excellent shampoo's so much so that if i could i would go get my hair washed everyday. Highly recommend. All of the stylists are friendly and knowledgable. Not a bad seed in the bunch. read more

Absolutely wonderful! This was my first time at this salon. I had a semi formal function to attend and wanted an updo. When I called to make my appointment the person was very nice, and explained the pricing. The salon is very clean, great music, and the interaction between hairstylists was funny. Jill did my hair. I went in with a picture of what I wanted, and she nailed it! Jill is very professional, listened to what I wanted/didn't want, and is a great conversationalist. They have lists at the front desk of all the hairstylists account names so you can tip them via, Zelle, Venmo, or another way. LOVE this salon and Jill. Thank you Jill. Finally made it in a long overdue haircut! My first time at HIP Salon so I can only share based on one visit. From the text confirmation, pre-call to talk about COVID-19 and the ease of the entire process, it was a wonderful first experience. Kimora, my stylist, is outstanding and makes some helpful recommendations and gave me great tips for continued styling and maintenance of my hair. She's a very caring and professional stylist. I appreciated seeing that everyone in the salon, customers and staff, wore masks and were continuously cleaning and sanitizing. They check your temp before entering right now too. Price for my cut and style was consistent with other salons I've visited in Schaumburg but I didn't feel like I receieved the same quality level of service at those other salons. I think I've found my new place to go for services. Be sure to check their website or call for the latest COVID-19 practices before making an appointment. read more

She gave me a great 90's butterfly haircut perfectly the way I wanted it and explained how much was gonna be taken from the length and asked if it would be okay, she also gave me beautiful wispy bangs! Jessie has been coloring my hair for over 20 years and Sal has been cutting my hair for over 10, they both are amazing! They are very skilled and experienced and really listen and follow-through with your desired color/style. They are passionate and devoted to their work and their clients. Hip Salon offers many opportunities for their staff to continue their professional growth holding classes often at their salon (Sal is one of the instructors). HIP Salon has been my go to salon for almost 20 years. Jen (stylist) & Jessie (colorist) are my secret weapon for great hair every time. Ive put my naturally curly hair through A LOT (everything from extensions to crazy color). I've never regretted a single process at HIP. History

Established in 2005.

Hip (Hair Innovation Professionals) was formed due to the closing of Heidis in Woodfield in January of 2005. Vince and Debra who were the Colour and Artistic Directors of Heidis in Woodfield, found the space and busted out HIP Salon in 5 weeks. We were able to take on the entire staff from Heidis and crammed them into this small space in which we expanded in 2006 and are still busting out. We kept the departmentalization of the staff as was at Heidis.

Meet the Business Owner: Debra H.

Debra has over 40 years of experience in this hair world. Debra Specializes as well as teaches Cutting here at HIP also. Debra has done extensive hair studies in Chicago, New York Canada and London. She has done makeovers on WGN and ABC here in Chicago, Photo Shoot competitions and participate in many charitable fund raisers. With this much knowledge and experience to share it is no wonder that she has chosen such an amazingly talented staff. Vince has since moved on and Debra is now the sole owner

After 5-10 minutes, no one has acknowledged me, which I understand because they're busy and I didn't make a reservation for my cut. My breaking point is when they take a new client instead of me although I was here first and the person was also a walk-in. Still, no one bothered to ask whether they could take me in, so I stormed off, only to have one of the stylists pursue me down outside and assure me they could take me when they finished with the client. When it was my turn, I was swiftly set in the stylist section, where I saw the equipment was filthy and still covered in hair remnants from the prior client. I was happy that the hair stylist cleaned the equipment simply by brushing it before using the clip on me, but I would be more grateful if the stylist sprayed a disinfectant. I just hope I don't catch ringworm after this cut. The entire procedure the hair stylist was making small conversation to distract me from what had happened earlier since I was still furious but my mood changed once I received my hair shampoo the stylist used a hair scalp massager the device was great and helped my entire body relax I was this close to falling asleep. My hairstylist was fantastic. I enjoyed how the stylist empathized to the situation and handled it professionally. The hair stylist was efficient and attentive to my requirements because of you, I look good.

So far I've been able to get same-day appointments when I called, but they were kind of late in the day (7 pm Sunday and 5 pm Friday). A ladies haircut for long hair cost me $30 and included wash, blow dry, and styling with a round brush. Be aware that you have to go into Phenix Salon Suites (next to Weight Watchers), and Kuna's salon is the second from the left when you enter.

I had hoped for a facial and the Aveda Aqua Massage. When I checked in for my appointments, they asked for my Groupon for the Aveda Sensory Facial. The Groupon was scanned and nothing was said to me. Not until I was in my robe and in the treatment room. The aesthetician told me that I had used a Groupon in the past (which must've been years ago) and they either couldn't honor it or I could use it towards paying the full price of the facial. I forgot if I had used one years ago. The aesthetician talked to me about my massage. And it was just a salt scrub. I said no it was supposed to be the aqua Massage. And she said that wasn't what was booked. And I don't do those you'd have to see a regular masseuse for that. I just agreed to go along because I wanted to have a nice experience, but it wasn't looking too good. The salt scrub was OK but if it lasted a half hour I would be surprised. Between the "hour" facial and the body scrub I was in the room for maybe an hour and a half. The service was OK. Then I went into the steam shower area, which is always nice. I got dressed and I went to check out at the front desk I wanted a copy of the receipt because of the difference in cost with the facial and the massage. The woman said we only email them. I should've waited for my email before leaving. When I did receive the email I had started driving. So on my receipt, they did not give me the full $79 credit that I paid for my Groupon. They only gave me $63 in credit. Also, there's a $4 additional charge on the receipt. I called back that afternoon and had to leave a message because the recording said they were busy. No one returned my call. I called back the following day and was told that the additional $4 charge was to help offset the cost of the keeping the exceptional experience at the Asha Salon Spa??? I was told that they only applied $63 of my Groupon because they have to pay Groupon the $16 back. And that's how Groupon makes money. I have never heard of that before and I've used Groupon for years. They stood by their comments. I sent an email to Groupon who was supposed to get back to me within a week. I have not heard from them. At this point, I don't think I'll be using Groupon. If I do use Asha Salon spa in the future, I would make sure and double check I have the services I wanted, the prices and the length of the treatment clearly defined before I checked in for my appointment. It was clearly disappointing and not the experience that I've had in the past.

I was a customer of Deb's since the early 90s and followed her to HIP Salon when she and Vince opened it. There's not enough that can be said about the high quality of hair stylists and colorists at HIP. The salon has a great vibe and you can just feel that the people who work there are genuinely happy about being there. I primarily saw Deb for cuts and a couple of people for color. I did see other stylists at times for cuts and a few up-dos but always stayed with Deb for comfort. Sal styled my daughters hair since her first haircut (he has a way with the girls). There wasn't a week that went by that my daughter didn't get a compliment on her hair. (Thanks, Sal) We moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in Oct, 2009 and are still searching for a great stylist. I know there is no replacing Deb who is not only the most talented hair stylist I've had. I did see other stylists at what would be considered the best salons in Chicago but always went back to Deb. (Sometimes it wasn't geographically easy to get to Heidi's - her previous salon). Thanks for all the great cuts and fun and loud laughter. I'll have to schedule an annual appointment for our summer trips back to Chicago. read more

I have been going to Hip Salon for many years. Nick, has been my colorist! I love him!!! When my roots start to turn gray I feel old and unattractive. I drive Nick crazy because I say to Nick, make me look young again! I am in my mid 50's and I try to look my best. When Nick works his magic I look and feel beautiful every time!!! I also want everyone to know what a kind thing Nick did for me last night. When Nick finished coloring my hair I called my husband to pick me up. My husband called me ten minutes later to inform me he had a flat tire on the expressway!!! Nick heard what happened and without hesitation he said, I will take you to your husband! It was thundering and pouring down last night! Nick, was so kind to go out of his way! I want to thank Nick again for helping us!!! I am a forever grateful!!!! This place and its staff are the BEST! I'm always greeted warmly starting with reception and continuing through shampoo and my stylist, Debra, who is also the owner. (The head and temple massage while conditioning melts the stress away!) I have very fine hair and an odd hairline. She brings out the best in my hair. Debra has so much knowledge and passes it on to her staff through training and teaching. She spends as much time as needed on my hair...NEVER rushes. Always makes sure I'm happy before I get out of her chair! Her products are the best and you can purchase them right there. If you love what your stylist uses? Buy it right there! HIP also has many other services. Colorists are awesome! Tyler discussed what I wanted...I'm a redhead....he gave me the most gorgeous red! Not brass! I've been a client at HIP since they opened...I followed my stylist, Salvatore over from Heidi's Salon. What's great is that he knows my hair, what risks I'm willing to take and always gives me a great haircut. Not only does he do my hair, but also my husband and 2 kids. I just brought my daughter in the other day ffor her first "real" haircut and he gave her the cutest bob ever! I've already had a few people comment on how great her hair looks. I just referred a friend to HIP salon who is looking for a new stylist. It's a great salon with talented stylists / colorists in a fun atmosphere. The staff there has always been very warm and friendly to me and my family. I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

I went to Hip salon for the first time this week after a girlfriend recommeded it to me. she's always raved to me and our friends about this place and how great her stylist, jimmy, is. Her hair always looks gorgeous, so I called to make an appt. Unfortunately his openings didn't work for me because of my schedule, so the girl who answered the phone recommended Norma. She seemed very nice at first, but then got very personal and asked extremely inappropriate questions. I don't know how she could have possibly thought to ask me about plastic surgery, in fact she actually assumed I had some done. I have been going to Hip Salon since day one, following them over from Heidi's in Woodfield Mall. I have unfortunately moved from the area, but after trying to find a great hairstylist I have vowed to only get my hair cut when I can go to Chicagoland and Hip Salon. Jimmy has been my stylist for years, as my last trip was last minute, Jimmy was unavailable and I took who was available. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name, but she did a great job. She wasn't as good as Jimmy, but better than any other I had tried. It has been two months and my hair still has great shape. My suggestion is try to get Jimmy....he really is the best. I went here once a while ago, and it was a pleasant experience for me. I did start going somewhere else that was very close to my work. However, I am considering having hair extensions put in, and I do know that this is a service that Hip offers. I have no idea of the quality of service of their hair extensions, though....do they do a good job? Which stylist do I choose to do it? If anyone reading this has had hair extensions from Hip, I would really appreciate some feedback and maybe a suggestion of which stylist to go to to have this done. This is by far the best hair salon for quality of cut and color I have ever visited. They mirror the prices around Chicagoland. I recieve consistant quality every time I go and I get compliments from men and women about my cut and color. I have been seeing Jimmy for my cut for more than 10 years now, but have seen the other stylists when he is booked. I am always happy with the results. Ian was my colorist before he moved to NY and Nick has colored my hair since. I was happy with my hi-lights. This is a trendy salon, but not over the top. They stay current with cuts and styles. read more

I must say again, how much I enjoyed, your MEI make-up event on Friday! I came back yesterday for full eye lash extensions. Norma was excellent! I look awesome, if I don't say so myself. I was so relaxed, I believe I might have dozed off, as time went by so fast. I have been told by so many people, that I look so good with mascara on and yet I am not even wearing any! Wow, with my new color(Vinnie), cut(Debra), eyelash extensions (Norma) and make-up (Estevan) I look like a whole new person! This review is for Esteban at HIP Salon. I recenlty went to HIP salon for the first time after moving to the Schaumburg area. Everyone on the staff was professional, friendly, and courteous, but my experience with Esteban was EXCELLENT! He was very skilled, knowledgeable, and attentive to detail. He listened carefully to exactly what I wanted in a haircut ( a sleek bob) and was able to execute it perfectly! I have been my hair colored Blonde for twenty years and I love Nick at the Hip. He always gets it right. I have gone to the best salons in Chicago for years and its a hot or miss...sometimes blonde or it gets this taupe look.....not with Nick its always BLONDE-PERFECT.... and hes very accommodating to my busy work schedule and flexible about getting me in. I love HIP! I hate to say it, but I do tend to be a bit picky, especially with how my hair is styled. I know that the cut is what's the most important, but if you can't even discuss with your stylist your preferences for how your hair is styled, what is the point? I have actually had my hair done by two different stylists here and I would take either one! Also, my colorist always somehow knows exactly what I want. I've found everything here at HIP to be everything I have ever wanted when it comes to my hair. Thanks HIP! read more

I've been a patron of Hip since 2006. I too have had a very positive experience at this salon. I have had both styling and coloring services performed there. I have always been treated well and made to feel an appreciated client. My appointments have always had a telephone reminder the day before they are due. The cutter and colorist that have done my hair have always been knowledgeable both technically and as to what is currently in hair fashion. Hip Salon is very nice and welcoming. I went there for the first time for a hair cut. My stylist Michelle was very nice, sweet and knowledgeable and gave me the best haircut according to my needs. She knew what I exactly want. The next day I got lot of compliments at work for the haircut. I had a late evening appt but never felt that I was rushed. Price was reasonable and I didn't find it very expensive like the other high-end salons. I will visit Hip salon and Michelle again. read more

Great people, great place! Professional and dedicated to their craft. I use the dynamic, artistic duo of Jeanine for her awesome eye for color and Jill for amazing cuts. No matter who you use though, they are all at a level of skill and dedication I have rarely seen anywhere else. Right now, during Covid-19, they have taken every precaution to keep everyone safe. Tyler is a hair whisperer. She really listened to me and my concerns. I have had other stylists be glad to take my money knowing what I wanted was going to severely damage my already thin and damaged hair. Tyler told me what I needed to do to heal my hair. True professionals at their craft! I could not imagine going anywhere else; the staff at HIP really know their stuff - from cutting to coloring.
