This place seems to be extremely popular though at times, because the wait can be long. They also don't take phone orders, you'd have to do some sort of Uber Eats/DoorDash to do an order in advance. When the craving call sometimes you just have to answer. I had been craving Korean food. Specifically japchae noodles. So when I saw a Hippo Grill was in the area while in the southwest part if the valley, I knew I had to give it a try. I had taken a look at the menu on line before coming in so I knew what to expect by way of food. What I did not expect was that this is a takeout place only. No seating inside whatsoever. This normally wouldn't be a problem for me as I often prefer taking my food home. But home is on the opposite side of the valley. Oh, what to do. I did end up ordering and figured I would eat in the parking lot. I got a mixed plate of bulgogi and mandoo for my entrees. Kimchi, cucumber kimchi, japchae and mac salad for my 4 sides. Yes, it is as much food as it sounds. And yes I dod eat in the car. Well, the mandoo anyhow. The rest of it was really kind if difficult ti eat in the car. It was too hot outside anyhow. So mandoo and gone. I took the rest home. When I got home the rice and meat were still pretty warm but I started in with the japchae since that was the craving that brought me in. Delicious. Exactly what I was looking for. Bulgogi was up next. Tender and slightly sweet. Could have used a touch of salt. Creamy mac salad up next followed by the kimchis. The cucumber was had a hint of sweetness vs the cabbage kimchi. Both were great. I had to force myself to stop eating everything and save some for later. It was so good I didn't want to stop. The leftovers made for a good lunch the next day. Service was excellent in the store. The food was quite good. It is fortunately unfortunate that Hippo Grill is not located in Henderson. The standouts for me were definitely the beef galbi and the cajun shrimp! both were really flavorful and I'd get them again. The bulgogi and Korean fried chicken were solid too, but overall the food was pretty good rather than amazing. My main gripe is that it's takeout only with no seating at all! not even a spot to sit and wait for your order, which was a little inconvenient so my husband and I were just kind of waiting standing up? We came to this place as it was recommended when we were in search of something similar to this korean bbq spot that is found in Hawaii. As far as the food is concerned, they meet the mark. Everything was tasty and being able to build your plate exactly as you want it is incredible. The meat was flavorful and tender. The sides were also very tasty. The restaurant itself offers no seating and is a to-go based experience which is completely fine. The food took about 15-20 minutes to be completed from ordered as I believe it is made to order, I would recommend calling ahead to place your order, or ordering online to save some time. The reason the review is only 4 stars as opposed to 5, is because the service was not the greatest. The gentleman who took our order was very short and appeared as if he was annoyed with any questions or that he had to be there in the first place. Typically, service isn't that important to me as long as the food is good, especially when not at a sit down, fine dining type of place. This was our first time visiting Hippo Grill. They are very friendly however it is weird that you are not able to sample the sides. We weren't asking to sample all of them just one. They advised they don't do samples. Either way we figured why not let's give it a try. It did not disappoint..... we ordered 2 different mixed plates. Since they don't have tables available they advised they would bring it out once it is done. The overall wait was approximately 15 minutes which isn't bad for good food. The plates had some weight to them to say the least. We had to wait to get home before trying it since they are strictly a take out location but it was still good. Would I say it's the best we've ever had, probably not. Will we be going back anytime soon? Probably not. But if we happen to be on that side of town maybe. read more

If you're from Hawaii or have had meat jun and are looking for it in Vegas, they have it here! The service is great, friendly and only about a 20 minute wait for food which is cooked when you order. This is strictly a take out establishment, so be prepared to take your food home to enjoy, or find a nearby park (true Hawaii style). I'd never been here however had quite a few friends from Hawaii mention it. They've said "plate portions are large enough to share". It is technically true however portion sizes have changed and are not as big as they (apparently) used to be. My husband and I shared the regular meat jun, which includes rice and 4 side dishes of your choice, along with a 5 piece order of fried mandoo. The plate was enough for us to share, along with our toddler (who decided to just eat the sides) however we would have expected more given the $22 price of the plate. Overall, delicious food. Though, I personally prefer my meat jun sauce to have a spice to it. It's not bad just not my preference for sauce. It's a bit far from my house so I probably won't be back for a while. read more

This is like Subway for Korean grilled food, but the food quality is very high. We have been coming here for a few years now and this review is well past due. First note that this is a takeout only place. You can't dine in. Also, note they will cook your food to order. The food isn't sitting on a hot food line, so be prepared to wait (or you can order online, but they don't take phone orders). The main option is to pick your meat(s): chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. Then you either get 2 sides (mini) or 4 sides (regular) plus rice. When I was there people two people came in and got minis... I didn't understand.. for a few bucks more you get more food which heats up really well for second or third meals :) The sides are so good here. You have your choice of in house made banchan (e.g., kimchi, bean sprouts, japchae, potatoes, mac salad.. and way more to list... that's what i should've taken a picture of). We've tried a lot of the menu, but my go to is the spicy pork. It's full of flavor and is a lot of meat. Their meat jun is also a great option if you're feeling beef. I will say the times I've had the chicken, I've not been as happy (consider that it's sitting while you get home or somewhere where you can eat so maybe that's it). This was the 4th or 5th time I have ordered via UberEats. I usually order meat jun and BBQ chicken. The first couple times my food was great. Reasonably priced, good portion sizes, cooked well and tasty. Since then the quality has gone down significantly, the portion sizes have decreased and the prices have increased. One time I had egg shells in the egg covered my meat jun. Last night was by far the worst. I ordered meat jun, BBQ chicken, potato salad, cucumber and regular kimchi and fish cake. The potatoes were undercooked. And everything was SO BLAND. There was hardly any flavor in anything except the kimchi. The chicken thighs were so dry that they were almost powdery in texture and had hardly any flavor. It was as though they had been cooked earlier and reheated, because there was no moisture at all. Pretty difficult to do with chicken thighs! To make it worse, they failed to give me any sauce for my meat jun! Anyone that eats meat jun knows how important the sauce is to the dish. When I contacted the restaurant, the person working insinuated that I was lying. I told him that the only thing in my bag other than my food was the utensils and napkins. He claimed that they always put the sauce into the bag when they put the napkins. I told him to check his cameras (I assume they have them) because I had NO SAUCE. When I asked him what he could do, he said the only thing he could do was give me an extra sauce the next time! WHAT A JOKE! What would an extra sauce do for me next time when I 1) don't have any sauce for my meal that night and 2) I don't need extra sauce! He got my address and phone number and offered to drop off some sauce after they closed at 8:30pm. Mind you, I placed my order at 4:45pm and called him at around 5:15pm. So I would have to wait 3 hours. I asked him if he would throw in some fried mandoo or something for the inconvenience and he refused. Well, 8:30pm came and went and he never showed up. I had a feeling he probably wouldn't. Receiving such a crappy meal that was missing a key component and pretty much being blown off after spending $30, I probably won't be ordering again. UPDATE: I contacted the restaurant and spoke with Mason, the manager. He was very apologetic and offered to make this right. I am an absolute fan of Hippo Grill! One of the things I missed after moving here from Hawaiʻi, was the ability to walk into one of the Korean restaurants and walk out with a mixed plate of food and a smile on my face. Once you pick which plate you would want, I recommend getting the 2 choice combo so you can try a few different dishes as the portions are large! There are many side dishes to choose from after you pick your proteins, I believe 4 choices are the standard for the mixed plate. The Meat Jun is an absolute MUST when ordering - the flavor is so rich and hearty, and their sauce is delicious. Garlic shrimp lives up to its name with just a hint of spice. For sides - always get the potato salad and japchae (Korean glass noodles) The food speaks for itself, but th service is even better. What initially was going to be a 4-star review, 2-stars is more worthy especially when good customer service is lacking and bad attitude prevails. We recently discovered this spot when we were searching for a meat jun spot nearby. When calling in your order is not an option, but either in person or ordering online is, then you'd expect that you can place an order online with no added hassle. If you order in person, expect to wait at least 15 minutes or more. On multiple occasions when trying to place an order online, it says online orders were no longer being accepted. On the most recent visit when I wasn't able to order online again, I went to Hippo Grill to place my order. I asked the guy taking orders if he was aware that their online system is not accepting orders...he said yes, he knew because they're unable to handle online orders plus walk-ins. When I expressed my disappointment, he told me that I don't need to order from them and can go somewhere else. I was shocked that this guy had the nerve to say this. I told him that since their food is good, we continue to support them but may no longer be a choice. When I went back in to get my order, the guy asked me if I was still "hangry." No, I was not hangry and I told him he didn't need to be an asshole earlier. When customers are THE heart and soul of your business, you may want to think first before you open mouth and say the wrong thing to a repeat customer who will no longer support your business. You will lose business like you did ours. No matter how good your food may be, Las Vegas is the mecca of food. It's like and LnL barbecue place, but Korean style I paid over $30 for a combination meal the Jakob was an extra $12 and it was just OK. I would rather go to an all you can eat barbecue spot then come here. There's no seating so you either so it's only takeout. I have been here a few times since their opening and enjoy the place. When they first opened, they were accepting phone orders, but now it seems they don't anymore which is kind of a bummer because the food takes a bit time to cook and there is nowhere inside the store to sit down and wait for the food. Besides that downside, the food is great. I love their spicy pork belly and their regular size is honestly a good portion that it feeds me and my boyfriend. It's also great that you have a variety of sides to choose from. I also enjoy their Fried Mandoo with their sauce. It tastes great and is usually cooked really well. My brother loves the Bulgogi Fries. Itasted has a little kick to it, but their sauce is great. Overall, food and portion size is great. Yesterday I placed an order at 230pm for pickup at 6pm through Doordash. I received a text at 545pm stating that they had cancelled my order and with no explanation.
