The restaurant gave typical diner feel,plenty of tables for seating , Steven was attentive and kept our delicious ice teas filled. Food arrived in a timely manner. Chicken fried perfectly and seasoned well, collards were good with turkey , kid stated the turkey and pulled pork sandwich were moist and good , the red velvet waffle was enjoyed . So happy we came here with friends. I had had His Place food out and about at a catered event, but hadn't had the chance to stop in. It has a good location - lots of main roads nearby. The restaurant itself gives cozy diner vibes, and the service was great. I went for the chicken pot pie (deconstructed) and peach pie. While the food was on the pricier side, I can absolutely see why. It was incredible. The seasoning of the veggies, gravy, and chicken was incredible. I have a hunch they use Crisco instead of butter in their pastry, which I didn't love, but it was still great. The peach cobbler with ice cream was very hearty. I had to take most of it home. Finally got myself over here! Met a friend at 11am on a Friday, which was a great time as they opened, because then it got busier. Of course, it smells delicious inside. My friend got the peach burgers, and I got the Chef 2Js Feast: I chose pulled pork and brisket, and for my two sides - Mac and cheese, and then the creamed corn on our server's recommendation. My wife and I met another couple at His Place, 30th St. location, for a late lunch. First, the restaurant is bright and cheery. The hostess/server greeted us as if we were genuinely the best thing that had happened to her. She was like encountering a long-lost friend. I'm not a soul food enthusiast, but everyone else is. I had the Beef Brisket, with fries, and slaw. The fries were really good, slightly crispy, and lightly, uniquely seasoned. My wife had the Cajun Chicken, with two orders of Collard Greens, wishing she had a third helping, probably with Okra, knowing her. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which were very tasty and seasoned with unique flavors and scents. I wish I were better at describing the meal, but for a 73-year-old's first visit to this type of restaurant, trust me, it is great. This was actually my second visit, the first being the last day of my HS Senior year in June 1970, when it was a popular breakfast chain restaurant, an icon of the time. His Place is pretty consistently good. I've been several times over several years. I've even had some really good experiences with takeout, my food usually stays hot and it's packaged nicely and neatly enough to survive the drive home. I have pretty much found my safe meals which are either fried catfish or friend chicken wings with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes so I haven't had much else on the menu in the last couple of years. I ate inside the restaurant recently, and the ambiance gave old school soul food restaurant. Our server seemed under the weather which was concerning. We had been planning to try this place for a while so decided to go with some friends. They have their own parking lot and we were easily able to get a spot right in front of the restaurant. We got there shortly after they opened on a Saturday and were able to get seated right away. By the time we left they were starting to get pretty busy. It seems like they have a very active carryout business also. Our server, Cicely, was attentive and very helpful with menu advice. I decided to order the sliced beef brisket which came with a corn muffin and two sides. My sides were dressing and collard greens. The brisket was good as was the dressing and muffin. I thought the greens were cooked perfectly and tasted so great. I couldn't resist having some dessert as they all sounded so yummy. I decided on the bourbon pecan pie. I'm glad I didn't skip it because it was delicious. Serving sizes were generous and prices were in line for the amount of food you got. I want to start by saying I had extremely high expectations and I think that really colored my experience at His Place Eatery. I have been following them on social media for a long time and have really hyped this place up in my mind. I was slightly surprised showing up for lunch on a weekday that they were absolutely packed. After being told our wait would be around 30 minutes once we got back to our car we were then texted that our table was ready. I am definitely glad we were seated so quickly, our server was great, she was attentive and friendly. Now for the food itself, I just felt underwhelmed. I got the Memphis pulled pork and my girlfriend got the burger and we agreed the food was just okay. Now I was expecting to be blown out of the water by some of the other reviews so I just felt kind of disappointed. My pulled pork didn't have the smoky full flavor I was expecting and honestly it was a little dry although the coleslaw and bbq sauce definitely helped I felt like it shouldn't have needed the help. The fries had a great texture but I just wish there was a little seasoning on them, that would have really made them stand out and the mac and cheese was a little gluey in texture and again I just had such high expectations I couldn't help but be a little disappointed. The collard greens were okay but nothing I would really write home about. The star for me (not pictured) was the banana pudding which we ended up grabbing last minute and I'm glad we did because that definitely knocked it out of the park for me. The cherry on top of our visit was someone in the parking lot dented my girlfriend's car (definitely not His Place's fault but was still a damper on the afternoon) so all in all glad I gave them a chance but I'm not sure I'd be back and if I was it would 100% be for that banana pudding. read more

Finally got to take my sister and her fiancé here and they were VERY excited. I've lost track of how many times I've come to His Place but it is NEVER disappointing. I always get the smoked Turkey grilled cheese. Unfortunately I was not able to enjoy it this time due to the fact I wasn't feeling so well, but I did get to finally try their yams and I always enjoy their green beans which are cooked with TERKEY! We were coming home from a trip and decided we didn't want fast food and bbq sounded good so I got on yelp and this place was a suggestion! The parking lot was pretty full so I thought that was a good sign. Went inside and was greeted with a friendly smile and a big hello. The atmosphere was clean and simple...nothing fancy but tasteful! We got seated right away but there were only about 3 tables left open...I did see on website the seating policy is first come first serve no exceptions and no reservations so I was honestly expecting to wait a little when I saw all the cars! Large selection on the menu but of course it's bbq so knew there was a chance some of the meats could be sold out. We got lucky and everything we ordered was still available. Ribs, brisket and rib tips, candied sweet potatoes, coleslaw (creamy), baked beans, and Mac and cheese and corn bread. It was all delicious! Service was efficient despite restaurant was crowded for lunch-time specials. I had fried chicken and it was moist and crunchy. My side was green beans. The cornbread muffin was very buttery with delicious honey flavor. My husband had the pork-belly BLT with fries. I tasted it and it was delicious. In town for our church convention and found His Place via Yelp. Stopped by and found a quaint white building. Walked in to a friendly greeting and was quickly seated. Our waitress was Makayla who was not just friendly but patient as we figured out our food order. She provided recommendations and samples of sides to help us decide. Even better she brought over a piece of cornbread when my mom's sugar started crashing. So the meals... there were four in our party: 1. Fried catfish and smothered pork chop combo with greens and mashed potatoes . 2. Friend chicken platter with extra fried whiting with corn and fries. 3. Fried wings and smothered wings with corn, greens, and yams. 4. I had rib tips with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was phenomenal and all 4 of us had leftovers to go. Simply an outstanding meal today. Everything was tops! The meatloaf was cooked perfectly with a hint of bbq sauce. The greens were slightly sweet and bitter at the same time. At first glance it doesn't look like much but the food absolutely makes up for the looks. Ms. Tracy was our waitress and she was great!. I took her advice and ordered the Fried Whiting which comes with two sides. The first was seasoned beautifully. Nice and crispy. Huge pieces too. The greens were delicious as well. A little stimmy but good. The yams were different. Not like I've had before but good too. I added some Mac & Cheese and Baked beans on the side. Beans were good and tangy as described. Mac & cheese was ok. My wife ordered the meatloaf which she said was delicious The chicken and waffles were good. Chicken could have used more seasoning but it's still good. The place my husband works just opened a new medical facility in the area and open house was today. I did a Yelp search for food in the area and His Place was the first on the list. We had food from here around the start of the Pandemic 3 years ago as curb side but not since then. It was about 2pm on Saturday. The parking lot was packed. We walked in and were asks if we were doing dine in. We put our name on the waitlist and got a text in about 15 min our table was ready. Our server was very friendly. Seriously the best service we've had in a long time from anywhere. She got our drinks and gave us a few minutes. I ordered two meats Grilled Blackened Catfish and Perch. With Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and Candied Yams. With Cornbread muffin. The catfish had great flavor. The Perch was good but not as good as the catfish. I normally hate dirty mashed potatoes but these were really good. The Candied yams were slap your mama good. The Cornbread muffin had great flavor but a little dry. Husband got a Smokehouse Grilled Cheese meat stuffed into a grilled cheese using brioche bread and provolone and Pulled Pork his sides were mashed potatoes no gravy and Mac n cheese. He loved the Grilled cheese. The pork was good ( I tasted it. He loved the Mac n cheese. He wasn't a fan of the mashed. I got Banana Pudding to take home. I ate it later. It was also super good. Nilla wafers with bananas and I'm guessing a pudding mixed with whipped topping. It was a big portion for the price. Very happy we made it back for dine in. The food and the service is awesome. We went on Sunday and I had maybe a five minute wait. we ordered uptowns customized and these were served quickly. Uptowns are essentially Arnold Palmers- 1/2 sweet tea and 1/2 lemonade. Today I had chicken and waffles with side of baked beans and fries. My daughter had a smoked turkey, grilled cheese with mac & cheese and bourbon corn. All of this was delicious and was served pretty quickly. Chef Jones came out and chatted with us. Wow! I was expecting decent, maybe even above average food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the service received at a mid-week lunch! I met a friend for lunch and I was glad we waited until 1pm to meet there. That place was packed! But most folks were leaving to return to work, so our wait was about fifteen minutes. The place was clean! I was half expecting a slightly worn diner experience with an older wait staff , but once seated, we were promptly greeted with a friendly young woman with menus and gave our drink orders. I really wanted sweet tea. That was probably my only complaint--as I was given an overwhelmingly sweet tea that was lemon flavored. I ended up opting for water after. I ordered the catfish and collards. It arrived piping hot! The fish was absolutely delicious and had a very fine cornmeal breading that almost reminded me of a popcorn flavor--so good! It wasn't muddy tasting at all! And the collards? Perfectly cooked and balanced flavor. I could have eaten two bowls! I ordered fried chicken to take home to my husband for an after work snack. I ordered the sliced brisket which I thought came on a bun but only chopped brisket does she offered me a bun for a dollar odd but might be worth it . I ordered the bourbon corn and French fried potatoes, pictures to follow .they changed waitresses on us and the new one came to introduce herself and the original one came over to explain. That's good service. Well the food was amazing . The meatloaf was delicious and had chunks of vegetables in it my husband was reluctant to stop eating and let me investigate. My brisket was juiced and just how brisket should be . Everything was great even the gravy on the mashed potatoes. At one point a gentleman I believe was the chef stopped by our table asked if it was our first time and engaged us in conversation .
