Came to Historians for an easy dinner after a loooong day of travel so I wasn't really wearing my most astute Yelper hat. That said, I was satisfied with my meal here. I ordered the Bootlegger burger. I wasn't sure if they'd be mindful of a specific burger temp request and it was not, in fact, a thing. I asked for medium rare and it came out more toward medium well, but still juicy and flavorful. The fries were pretty meh but the burger was substantial enough that it actually saved me from mindlessly inhaling food I didn't need. The space seemed clean and friendly enough and I was really impressed by the menu selection from a place that seems like it's primarily a bar. There are definitely some other things I'd like to try once I get over the sticker shock of returning to Denver prices after being in another country. read more

Visited Historians a week or two ago for brunch, we were hankering for a new place to visit and I had heard good things from friends about this place so we decided to take a swing, we ended up on the rooftop patio next to the fireplace. All in all our experience was a very positive one, we sat on the roof for one of the rare winter warm-ish days of the season, the food was great and service was very attentive and friendly. I do, however, have minor critiques of Historians, the menu seemed a little small for brunch, with only 8 options to choose from, I would say adding one or two more options would add a little more variety, maybe adding chilaquiles or some other egg-based variation to the menu would be a welcome addition. Additionally, if you're going to offer pancakes, maybe offer french toast as a similar option, again, minor suggestions to take way, hardly anything major. At the end of the day we had a very good experience and will be back again! Protip: if you're looking to avoid the parking meters along broadway, go a few blocks to the east and you can find plentiful unrestricted parking, if you're having a good time with friends, it helps to not have to worry about when to come back to feed the meter! read more

Excellent experience on the patio! Went around 6:30 on a Weds, had our choice of spots upstairs... we received pretty quick service, everything was extremely clean and organized. This is a casual seat yourself place. When I was there on a Tuesday (I think that's the right night), there looked to just be one bartender working, but he pretty much immediately got me a water, gave me a sample of a beer that I wanted to try, and brought out my drink. It wasn't super busy, but that's still a lot for one person and he was very on top of it. They had inexpensive tacos for a special (I think they were only a dollar) that had a lot of meat, so it was a very good deal. Nothing fancy, but a good place to grab some beer and food. read more

There is no better place to hang out on a 70 degree day in February. Historians has a fantastic rooftop patio and weekend brunch specials are awesome. I had the $10 bottomless mimosas and my friends the $5 build your own bloody marys. The drinks and atmosphere are the best. The food isn't bad and it's not spectacular either. It's pretty good for the price point. I had the burger without the bun. This came with a side of fries that couldn't be substituted. I thought this was a bit weird because all I wanted was a side salad. The waitress said they don't allow substitutions on the weekend. The burger was probably a frozen patty because it was a bit a sad. My friends had the breakfast burritos and the Spanish Hangover. The burrito looked really good but could use a bit more flavor. The Spanish Hangover had creamed potatoes and with over easy eggs, came out a bit soupy. The biscuit was a highlight of that dish. Overall, historians is def worth going to. Food was pretty good. I went with a group that used to frequent this place years ago and they didn't have fond memories. But they did a 180 during our group visit. The food was good! This is a great bar and burger joint on S Broadway. The first floor is tall and spacious with ample seating both at the bar and along the wall. The real gem is the rooftop patio. There is limited seating and I could see this place getting packed on a summer weekend. We were there for lunch on Labor Day and had plenty of seating options. There are misters as well as there aren't many shaded areas (and no, dogs are not allowed). There are tons of taps to choose from which range from sours to hoppy IPAs - most seem to be from Colorado, which is cool. I recommend the Juicy Gold for a citrusy IPA. We ordered burgers to go - the Southwestern and two Build Your Own. They are served in brown butchers paper tied with a string (regardless of eat-in or takeway). Adorable! My BYO was beef cooked medium rare with american cheese, onions, and chipotle aioli served on a brioche bun. SO delicious. You can opt for salad, fries or sweet potato fries on the side and they do have veggie and chicken burger options. I went regular and my husband went sweet potato. Both were delicious, though I think the regular ones get a little soggy if you take them to go and don't open the packaging up right away. They're still chewy and have parts of the potato peel on them - just the way I like them. Despite not being totally overwhelmed with customers, the service was a little inattentive. Really fun place for Sunday Funday. $12 bottomless mimosas and $8 bloody marys. The brunch entrees are spot on. We had the Huevos Rancheros, Build-Your-Own-Burger, Spanish Hangover and the Breakfast Burrito. All delicious! Also got the chips and salsa/guacamole to start and it was tasty. I've been to Historians twice now and I love hanging out in this place. I've only been for drinks both times, but three menu looks pretty fun with some delicious foods. Their downstairs is big with super high ceilings and a long bar. They have a large beer offering and cocktails a plenty. Trivia is Monday night and although I didn't participate, it's nice to know they offer it. During my second visit, I sat upstairs on their rooftop patio. Great view, fun vibes, and delicious Palomas. Trevor took care of me and my guest both times and he's super easy going and fun to talk to. On Sundays they offer $10 bottomless mimosas until 2pm. I recommend you show up for lunch around 1:30 and watch the magic unfold. Mimosas win every time. read more

Just had brunch (biscuits and gravy and the breakfast burrito are still killer) staff is reduced due to difficulties in Denver finding staff but the folks that are here are wonderful. This is one of my favorite happy hour places. They have an amazing beer list (40 beers on tap with the majority being local/Colorado beers). I love their rooftop! This is a place I always bring out of town friends to give them a taste of colorado beer and Denver rooftop/patio life on a nice day. I have tried most, if not all, of their happy hour appetizers. They are all pretty solid. Nothing stands out but it's typical bar food...good with a drink if you're hungry. They have lunch and dinner food and daily specials. The hamburgers are solid and the smothered fries are delicious to share. I think the country gravy fries are the best. It's the kind of thing that my body can handle maybe once a year bc it's fries covered in sausage gravy and melted cheddar...but I enjoy the splurge when I do it. I do not recommend the mac and cheese if you're actually wanting mac and cheese. It's more like plain pasta in a liquidy, buttery cheese-like sauce. And they say that it's bacon mac and cheese but there was not one spec of bacon in it. It still tasted okay but was not mac and cheese and in my opinion certainly was not worth the $3 extra you pay to get that as the side with your burger. This is my second lunch experience at Historians... and this most recent was definitely not the best. Had my first experience not been significantly better this definitely would have been a 2 star review. First, we arrived at 1:30 on a Sunday and wanted brunch. We were told by our waitress sometimes brunch ends early (even though the menu says till 2). So this also meant bottomless mimosa's had also ended. Ugh! Second, we were told we couldn't order lunch until the kitchen opens again and they didn't know for sure when it would. It didn't open until 2:15. Third, all our food was super greasy. My husband and I shared cheese curds and fish and chips and we could barely eat the fish and chips because of how greasy and over cooked they were. The only positive of this meal was that the Bloody Mary Bar was really nice and had a lot of great options! read more

However, Food is meh, the Spanish hangover was creamy and rich but had no flavor, salt and heat would do that dish wonders. Thé 'black forest' pancake was disappointing. Went there yesterday, had a great happy hour experience! Oh by the way HH is all day on Monday. Ya heard me. All day. I loved our bartender; she made killer Deep Eddy Ruby mules and my date got their SOBO Smash. Both were perfect summertime patio drinks. We hung out for 3hrs. For a place with only bar service, it's odd to get charged an undisclosed (on the online menu) "service fee." Apparently it's on the hard copy but it's shady business to not show it on the only menu (QR code) I was provided. I was bar hopping before meeting up with the girls. I stopped by this place to check it out. I went and sat at the bar. The place is casual and nice. Nice place to go to for a first date just for a drink or two. I ordered a Coors light and did their Tuesday taco specials. I ordered their fish taco and carnitas taco. Beer is always good so no comment, hehe. The tacos can have a little more work done. Was not the best tacos. I've had way better tacos. But I get it, it's a little appetizer to help sustain the beer. The staff was good and they were attentive making sure I was ok. I can only speak for the tacos and probably wouldn't order it again. I would definitely come back to hit up a beer. I have to say, I'm surprised by the 3.5 star rating that this place currently has. We stopped in earlier this week and absolutely loved it. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with recommendations, which we appreciated, considering how many beers they have on tap. We were here for several hours, and over the course of the afternoon we split the fried cheese curds (some of the best I've had in Denver), the hummus plate (but yum - red pepper hummus), and the burger special. The burger special really is a great deal... for $4.95 you get a cheeseburger, fries, and a beer. We upgraded to the veggie patty, and even I loved it - and I'm a carnivore. It was the best veggie burger I've had in a long time, and even my sister (an actual vegetarian) was very impressed. I see there are some complaints about how they serve their burgers and sandwiches - wrapped in butcher paper and tied with string - but I loved it. It was like getting my meal as a little gift. :) I'm so, so happy to have stopped in - and even happier that this place is only a few blocks from my house. Along with Doughtery's, it's my new favorite neighborhood bar. read more

Decent spot. I love their rooftop area in the warmer months, although the view isn't that awesome compared to other spots around town. Drinks are decent and priced ok and the food is fine, too, especially if you can make happy hour. I have been here several times, and although I don't feel strongly about this place, I'll probably keep coming back, just due to the sheer convenience of it after finishing up dinner at a S Boradway restaurant. The service here hasn't necessarily wowed me, but it also hasn't been bad. It's pretty clean and chill during the day/afternoon/evening, but definitely gets loud and overrun with college students late-night-- nothing wrong with that, but I feel like, if you're going to have loud dance music playing, make some space to dance. Making more space is way more fun for dancers, and advantageous for all the people getting elbowed and bumped by them. read more

I came here for a lunch meeting with clients. Took forever for the server to come over and take our drink order. There were no menus on the table so there was no way for us to know what we wanted to order so she walked away. When she came back we all gave her our orders but after the food arrived we were missing half of the order. She said she didn't know we "wanted anything." After ringing in the food again my chicken sandwich came to me completely raw! Not a single manager came to me to talk about this and all the sever did was take the sandwich off my bill.
