To celebrate &pizza's fifth anniversary, I thought I would review one of their newest ventures which takes all of the amazing things I know and love about &pizza but adds alcohol to the mix. Party time! Excellent! There's a few things going on here that you need to know about: + Hive Bar x &bar is located in the lobby of Hotel Hive, DC's first micro hotel. It's slicky decorated with all of the things Instagrammers love to post about: white marble tables, octagon floor tiles, big sun filled windows, and giant plants everywhere. It's super hip and inviting. + There are just a few drinks of the menu but all of them are well made and under $8, a blessing in a $13 drink town. Even more so, all of the ingredients are from DC distilleries which means you can feel good about your spending your dollar locally. + Adjacent from the lobby is a full service &pizza that is doing its darn thing...only this time with breakfast pizza! + If you're in need of some Vitamin D, head up to the the expansive rooftop with greenery and street art everywhere. They have bottle service, beer and wine here but you would be a sucker if you didn't order their specialty frosé. + The best part about this entire venture is the people -- every single bartender, server, or hotel worker has been extremely kind and welcoming. Even when mistakes have been made (it happens because people are human) every single touchpoint has been exceptional to make things right. To me that speaks volumes about the high quality operation they are running. This place is hoppin' but still quite a hidden gem. I highly recommend checking it out before summer ends! read more

Came here for A Yelp Elite event only to find out that it had been cancelled. I got to work an hour earlier just so I could make it in time for the 5:30 start time, and finally paid for parking only to be given less than pleasant news. The bartender Mercedes (spell check) over heard my situation and gave me a voucher for a free drink and a pizza. I exchanged said voucher for one vodka lemonade, and I must say it was quite good. Mercedes was very knowledgeable about the happenings in the city and what festivals I should look forward too. The bar wasn't that busy so I just talked to her the whole time I was there, that's a plus because she was really personable. She made it easier because I came to the bar by myself (I know what was I thinking). Her hospitality plus the free food and drink definitely makes this place somewhere I could see my self coming back to. Hopefully next time I comeback I will actually get to experience that rooftop bar. read more

This is my go to spot after work..but menu is rather limited fyi. Happy hour is from 3PM to 6PM and the vibe is super chill. Please note the hh deals are just for the lounge on the first floor and not the rooftop. Yes-they have a rooftop that has comfortable seats! The hh specials for beer and wine are $6 and cocktails are $8. They have nine different types of pizza. My favorite is the big caesar. This pizza has mozzarella, chicken, bacon (I leave this off), tomato, croutons, romaine, and of course it has caesar dressing on top. This is my cheat day salad. &pizza and rooftop bar drinks is the vibe I never knew I needed. Got to come to Hive Bar's rooftop for an event & a chance to soak up one of the final days in DC of rooftop bar weather. Tons of seating and views, a full selection of delicious &pizza, and specialty frosé - it's like they made their bar from the mind of a millenial 20-something (which, admittedly, I am). It's located in the lobby and on the roof of the sleek Hotel Hive on 23rd and F, just a few blocks from the Foggy Bottom metro. A really cool concept by &pizza, and definitely a perfect combination of my favorite things - happy hour, rooftops, and pizza. Would definitely come back. read more

Was not impressed with my visit to Hive Bar. Came here for drinks and dinner before a show at the Kennedy Center. First thing to note is that happy hour drinks are only sold downstairs, and they're only liquor with a mixer. You can take them up to the rooftop, but they're not sold up there. Which would've been nice to know before we took the very slow elevator up, then had to take it back down for drinks. Upstairs, they also sell a few basic flavors of pizzas from &pizza. There are definitely better happy hours in the area. read more

Thank you so much to yelp for organizing a happy hour here! And thank you to &pizza and hive bar for hosting! I love that the two are combined in one venue. All the staff were so friendly and nice! Can't say enough good things about them. My favorite pizza was the mushroom one with fig balsamic. It's sweet and savory. An honorable mention is the signature dessert pizza. Not overly sweet like many desserts. It's delicious... never thought of &pizza as a dessert place but I was wrong. And each pizza is ~$10 that's the best pizza deal I've seen in DC. I can never finish an entire pizza here either. For the drinks, wowie. I tried three of the cocktails: the lemonade vodka, whiskey tea, and gin daiquiri. My favorite was the gin daiquiri (maybe i just like gin though haha). All three were dangerous delicious but 1. Not overly sweet and 2. Had a good amount of alcohol in it. I was definitely feeling the three drinks. And $7 for a cocktail in DC? that's like happy hour prices all the time. read more

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and service was absent. took 10 minutes+ to get glasses of wine when bar only had a few patrons and pizza we ordered was not delivered even after 15 minutes. At this point we gave up waiting for a second round/food and left. When we got the check, there was zero recall of the pizza ordered 15 minutes prior. Bartender was nice when she came by, but it wasn't by any measure adequate. read more

Found this place after a long day of touring DC. It was happy hour so we were drawn in! I can't remember the exact name of the drink, but it was a mixture of rum, honey, and lemon. It was delicious! I wish I had booked my room here. I was staying nearby and headed to the metro when I passed the Hive Hotel. I decided to try the little restaurant inside. Jill, the bartender, took my order for a white pizza topped with mushrooms, onions, and balsamic glaze. She also made me a Negroni. I think Jill is a magician because the pizza appeared so quickly. Both the pizza and the Negroni were absolutely wonderful and just the right size for a late lunch/early dinner. The pizza is a thin crust flatbread but it was not brittle or crisp it went perfectly with the toppings. The Negroni was tart and a little sweet which was also perfect and it looked beautiful. Next time I'm in DC I will stay here just so I can come to the bar. read more

First bar we visited on our tour in the city. Just loved it. Very intimate small bar. Delicious and original cocktails. Service Is pretty good and fast. It surprise me for being a bar at a hotel, can't complaint. They have a pizza restaurant too, they're pizza are good. Just nice for some after work drinks and munchies. read more

Right off the bat the staff was fantastic. Very welcoming and personable, always asking when we wanted our drinks refilled. I had been to &pizza before and loved it, so having that be part of the bar was very cool and gave off a hipster vibe. The views and vibes alone at this bar make it worth the trip. A co worker and I got here around 7 pm and only intended to stay a short while. We were blown away by the relaxing atmosphere and clean environment. The upstairs rooftop only allows for 3 different types of pizzas to be ordered which can't be modified except for an allergy or gluten intolerance. We went with the meat lovers and garlic white pizza. We enjoyed both pizzas even though we agreed that the pizzas could have been more crispy. Decent beer selection here as we both decided to grab an IPA. Since we aren't from the area we spoke with the bartender and he was very informative on the surrounding areas and what would be a fun social environment for the Stanley cup finals for the following evening. Very friendly staff!!! All in all if your looking for a relaxing evening with a solid view of this corner of the city of DC check it out! read more

This is a great location in the city to enjoy a rooftop. Pros: &pizza is there.. and can be ordered at the bar or inside the shop. I ordered pizza at the 1st floor bar and it was hot and delicious. The happy hour drinks were also good at thec1st floor bar. Cons: I ordered pizza twice on the roof and it was warm-cold when it arrived. The drinks on the roof are a limited selection and are just ok. I would definitely come back to chill on the roof and then go downstairs to eat and drink. read more

I had such a great time here a few days ago and I will definitely be back. As always &pizza has such great pizza and toppings for a wonderful price. The drinks here are magnificent and not those watered down drinks you tend to get around the city but still pay big bucks for. I had a few of the Bourbon Manhattans and they were delicious. Crappy bar. I was staying at Hotel Hive and my friends and I decided to go to the bar. We arrived 30 minutes before closing time and the bar was packed. The bartender had a really bad attitude, and complained that we were ordering drinks so late. If you wanna close at 11:30, then close at 11:30. Otherwise, do your job until closing time at midnight! He said "unfortunately" he was still serving drinks and mocked us for being college students to his coworker, even though he was five feet away from us and we could clearly hear him. He was condescending and rude, and actually kept complaining about how long it would take him to clean up because of some of the other guests, right in front of their faces. Had &pizza here today given the free pizza-a-day policy the company is having for government employees during the shutdown. Despite the long line, they had several staff working quickly and made my order without any errors. They were very nice, and I appreciated the thought. Hive bar is a cool spot, especially with the roof area upstairs that is perfect when it's warmer out. Would recommend for some cool views and the frozen drinks. read more

Loved Hive Bar &bar it's basically a craft cocktail bar and coffeehouse and &Pizza all in one!!!! It's cute, small and cozy! They have bar seating and tables and short stools. We got the best seating in my book by the fireplace. I had the whisky and tea which was really good. I would describe it as a warm and light cocktail at the same time. I also had the black and white which was like a coffee/White Russian also good. It's close to all the museums and monuments about a mile or 10mins drive. Will definitely be back! read more

This place is oh so adorable I made my bear pose with the drinks. I wanted to go here ever since I saw a yelp event take place here. The decor is definitely something you'll find in Manhattan if you work hard enough. The hotel basically partnered with &pizza to be their exclusive food outlet and can I say it's working. I didnt have the pizza but I had some pretty good drinks. The hotel is situated in the middle of a fraternity row it's cute. No complaints I think it's a safe area with a decent amount of street parking if you are driving. Ah did I mention they do their best to use all local liquors, how can you get more DC than that? read more

The rooftop is beautiful and has amazing potential, but it's disappointing to see how untapped the potential is. The decor feels halfway done, the bar was messy and completely unstocked, and the drinks are pre-made and served without even a garnish. Our bartender seemed displeased to be serving us. I was excited to attend a book launch party at Hive Bar after hearing such great things! Our event had an open bar and unlimited pizzas, but the service was still top-notch (which isn't always the case for events where you're not paying a la carte). It's a beautiful space with a great concept of teaming up with &pizza, and I hear there is a rooftop. Needless to say, we'll be back to get our buzz (sorry) on. :) read more

This review is for a private event at the Hivebar. A friend had an event here and I arrived early to help set up. The bar was full of patrons when we arrived. They did a wonderful job of clearing people out (politely) but a few people purposely lingered despite gentle warnings from the staff and signs posted. However, they finally left as the guests were arriving, so all good :) The staff were overly helpful in making sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us often. The bartenders were kind and attentive. The &pizza catered from next door was delicious. They even made a gluten-free pizza upon request. The bar ambiance was perfectly cozy for the cold weather. Even my mom (who came to support) commented on how much she enjoyed the bar and event. 10/10 read more

This rooftop is quite a vibe, we went at night and from the moment you step out of the elevator you can sense a cozy atmosphere. The drinks were great, we did not look at their food menu since we were having dinner afterwards and this was just a pit stop. The bartenders were very polite and cool, the seating area was limited since there was a holiday party going on on the other side of the bar. Well, it was a lovely evening until we got yelled at by the bartender. Apparently none of us know the difference between bourbon and tequila! We came here to celebrate the departure of two colleagues. Everything was going ok until the third round of drinks. We ordered a few pizzas (the American honey is amazing!) and many drinks. Most of us had individual tabs. The Manhattans are well made. The bourbon-sangria special was tasty. And the pizzas are wonderful! After 4 drinks we order another round of Manhattans and the District Bee. The district bee is close (only in name) to the Bee Sting- another drink on the menu that is made with tequila. My friend took one sip and she said it was tequila. I smelled the drink and it smelled of tequila. I took the drink back to the bar and all I said was "I think we got the Bee Sting instead of The District Bee", which resulted in a meltdown from the bartender. He said there is no tequila in the drink and said if we don't like it he will just throw it away. He then, without even asking if we wanted another drink, just dumped the drink in the garbage and walked away. I was perplexed with this reaction and walked back to our table. We resume our chatter and all of a sudden the bartender appears at our table and is yelling at us that he made the right drink and we are wrong. At this point, the entire table is confused as to why there is an angry bartender yelling at us. He finished his yelling and walks away to another table. Another bartender/ wait staff comes by a minute later and asks if we want anything. At this point we all are taken back by how we are being treated, so we request our bill and a close out. I told the nicer wait staff that we didn't come here to get yelled at, and we would like to close out and leave. We got our bills and left. I still left a 20% tip because the other wait staff were not rude like the bartender. The guy who closed our bills apologized for our experience. The angry bartender comes back to our table and offers and half-baked non apology, saying that he should have offered to make us another drink earlier. I replied to him that he should have, but he didn't, and simply threw the drink away and walked away from me. To which he responded by saying he was busy closing another table's bill. I wasn't going to engage him anymore and we left the bar. The whole experience is unfortunate because the pizza and Manhattans are good and we were thinking of going back another day. But not after this experience! Nobody wants to be yelled in a public setting, all because we said the drink was wrong. Anybody with a modicum of customer service would not argue and just make us another drink. Instead, we got yelled at by one rude bartender. No thanks! read more

&pizza + booze + a rooftop = an awesome night out I went to Hive Bar with two friends one evening and we really enjoyed our experience. Firstly, Hive Bar is in the Hive Hotel. When you first enter the hotel, you will see Hive Bar to your right and &pizza to your left through a storefront door past reception. The elevator directly in front of reception will take you to the rooftop where there is a selection of a few drinks but no food is allowed on the roof. So you can't take your pizza upstairs. We spent time in each area which made us feel like we were going to three different venues in one night. We started out with one drink, frose for me, on the roof and it was lovely. It wasn't particularly crowded and there was space to grab a couch and chat. The bartenders upstairs were friendly and helpful. There was also self service water and clean bathrooms. The drink options available on the roof were limited when I was there, you could choose between frozen margaritas, frose, and a punch. There were many different flavors you could add to your margarita if you wanted. One of my friends got the punch and the other got the margarita so I got to try all three, they were all really good but these are all on the sweeter side. We headed downstairs for a drink at the bar where there was a lot more selection in terms of drinks. We also saw quite a few people who were eating &pizza at the bar. We opted not to and headed over to &pizza and ate outside on the front outdoor area. &pizza, as always, was delicious and really hit the spot. We then headed back up to the roof for another round of margaritas. It was a very relaxed and fun experience and I look forward to heading back again. read more

Such mismanaged disappointment. Excellent feel, look, and roof top BUT you can't get the full bar menu or have any food on the rooftop. Why you may ask? Hmm, while the the same business has an &pizza on site and a full bar on the first floor, the establishment does not allow any of these enjoyments 3 floors above on the rooftop. Rooftop ONLY provides 2 frozen mixes, two beers, a white wine, and a champ. MANAGEMENT- do you want anyone to come back? Full bar on the rooftop and ability to order & pizza to the rooftop. Or at least to bring some up with out any harassment from the staff. read more

My friend and I wanted to bar hop and checked out hive bar because we were a fan of the pizza and the bar got good ratings. As soon as we come in, the bartender didn't come greet us or serve us anything. She looked at my ID and my friends for the longest time and talked to her supervisor. I definitely had the worst experience here. The only thing that made the experience okay, were the drinks--the drinks itself were really good. I just hope the bartender there gives better service to others because we tried to chug our drinks and leave because of the negative atmosphere. read more

Horrible experience. Staff is rude, drinks are extremely expensive. Not open until 1:00 am as the description says, only until 11:30. Me and my friends were just looking to get a drink and hangout, and we were constantly harassed by bouncers... if you do not buy multiple ten-dollar drinks they WILL kick you out. There is really no point to this place, it is a horrible disappointment. If you can find other options, do NOT choose this venue. read more

While I do wish I could make my own pizza, I love the vibe of Hive bar. I came here on a Friday night and it was empty. It was a chilly night and started to rain so that might've been the reason. There is a decent amount of seating on this rooftop and sections for a larger group. My only complaint is the amount of liquor in the drinks. The drinks cost approximately $10 and tasted great but like juice. I learned that there isn't a real bartender mixing the cocktails. They pour your drink from a batch pre-created which is why there is so little alcohol. Using this method likely speeds up service time but if they're going to do that, the drinks need to be improved. read more

I went to Hive Bar the other night with my friend, after passing by the Hotel so many times. After visiting, I can say that this might just be my new favorite spot in DC! We both ordered the O.G pizza, and sat outside while eating. The pizza bar is cool because not only do they have a variety of creative pizzas, but you can also craft your own. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing, even though it is on a main street. After enjoying a slice of pizza, you should definitely check-out their rooftop bar. I got the Frose, which is literally just a frozen rose. The bar on the rooftop has a really tiny menu, with a few beers, a few wines, and two frozen drinks. If you need more variety than this, than you can visit the bar on the bottom level of the hotel. The only issue is they do not allow you to bring drinks from the bar on the first level, to the rooftop bar. This was no problem for me, as I only wanted the Frose, but my friend was slightly disappointed at their beer menu. This bar is definitely one I would advise going to during the week. Its the perfect spot to chill with a friend, or even catch up with others. Most bars are usually too loud to have an actual conversation, but this one was not. It was not overly busy, but it was also not too quiet. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the ambiance of the lights and soft music, while lounging in the variety of plush couches that you could choose from. If you are looking for a crazy night out, I would not advise this spot, but if you are looking for something more low-key and relaxing, Hive Bar is the place to go. read more
