Parking lots is filled with cars so it can be extremely hard finding parking. They have tables for dine in and a to go line. If you're just getting Shumai, Dumplings, Duck or Pork I'd recommend getting it to go... you'll get your food way quicker! I placed an order around 11:52am and my lunch is from 12-1 but the order went way over the expected delivery time to where it said it would arrive at 1:05 so I had to cancel the order because it would have arrived after lunch. The waiter came and took our orders, which I pretty much over ordered, because I wanted to try every dish that I usually eat at other Chinese places to see how legit their food is. Everything we ordered was good & tasty. No complaints about any of their dishes at all. So, why the 3-star review you ask? Well, let me get to that... Honestly, this would've been a 1-star review, but the waiter was very good at accommodating us after we told him that we found a piece of fingernail in our duck noodle soup (the only item I forgot to take a picture of). The worse part about that was that my younger sister actually bit into it and it poked her so she had to spit it back out to find out what it was. The waiter didn't make us feel like we were lying or give us a hard time like most Chinese restaurants would if you told them you found something in your food. He even went out of his way to go check with the kitchen and came back to report to us that it must have been from the noodle company because all of their kitchen employees wore gloves so it's not possible for anyone to accidentally cut their nails into the food. Simple enough explanation in my book. He apologized multiple times and told us that he would remove that dish from our bill. HK Dim Sum is the third Taipan outpost and is most notable for also having a proper seating and dining space where you can order their popular dim sum and Cantonese comfort food. The best part about Tai Pan is probably their cheap dim sum prices and their frozen won tons, but otherwise, I'd say a place like Cooking Papa executes at a higher level. It is nice to see them offer a proper dining option as I do think there's a demand for this type of food and not just to go. Although I ordered a variety of dim sum, the worker kept on bringing back only one type of dim sum but at least she charged me the correct amount. She also seemed to be distracted by the simple questions of a customer about the contents of all the items and for some reason found the questions hilarious. They have seating area for dine in only and there is a Togo line for bbq pork and dim sum. They also have two big screen tv! I'm not really sure what the vibe is at this place. It's not like most dim sum places. This feels rushed and it feels as though they are trying to do everything! But I would go and get their wonton soup. For $6.25 you get a bowl with 15 wontons! Yes I counted! It was really good. The wontons fillings are made with shrimp and pork. The broth is so easy to sip up. This bowl was perfect for that rainy season. After a long e-mail saga of dim sum suggestions and indecisiveness, we finally settled on a spot for a group gathering. Luckily, it was good. HK Dim Sum is one of the three outposts of Tai Pan Dim Sum. I've had Tai Pan several times before and enjoyed it, mainly for inexpensive dim sum to-go though. I was actually somewhat excited for the chance to try them fresh. I don't have photos seeing as how it was mainly a social affair and the lazy Susan layout wasn't conducive to photography. We did have two dim sum carts come by the table before our native speaker ended up pulling over a server and making the bulk of our order. All the dishes came out hot or warm. Shu mai and the deep fried taro/pork, some of my favorites, were pretty tasty here. I also really enjoyed a certain pork dish that I believe was pork spare ribs with black beans, as well as the "pineapple" buns in spite of their lack of fruit or filling. A lot of the meat-filled buns seem to have distressingly low filling-to-bread ratios though, so I'd definitely avoid most or all of those. Also, somebody ordered beef chow fun a la carte, and that dish was woefully underseasoned. I know the whole yarn about not being able to remove salt and such, but that shouldn't be a rationalization for not adding at least some minimum amount of salt. The real win is that the food is cheap. Each dish tops out at about $3. Oh, and they kept the hot tea going for us, which was appreciated on a cold day such as day. Food is pretty good for the price. Service is not great. I tried to ask one of the employees a question and he told me to wait for the lady so I can ask my question. I finally get to the counter and I ask for my usuals; shu mai, shrimp tofu, and the taro cake but while I was asking her what kind of dim sum this other one was, she started putting my shu mai back and started loading the other one into the box. It was extremely delicious and they were generous on the wontons. A little pricy at $8.75 s bowl but I think it's well worth it. You order at the register and pick a table then they'll bring out the food for you. Many people get confused when walking in because they assume it's a restaurant where you sit down, get a menu and order. My only tips are, they are cash only and stand your ground when in line! We ordered the sweet and sour pork, stir-fried pork intestines with onion and pepper, scrambled eggs with shrimps. All the dishes exceeded expectations, and were cooked upon order (not precooked like some Chinese restaurants). The set came with bittergourd +pork rib soup and long-grained rice (probably Jasmine fragrant rice). There was enough food for us to get it to go. In total, we paid $27, including more than 18% tips. Grew up with Cantonese food and from NYC, this is the best and most authentic in the South Bay. I usually come for their 3 entrees for $23.99, which is just dirt cheap for how much food you get and how tasty the entrees are.
