I wanted to eat dimsum and found this casual restaurant from Yelp. I'm glad I tried it because the food was good and very affordable. I found each dish about $3-$4 less than typical dimsum restaurants around. This is not a full service restaurant which I didn't mind at all. I ordered from the self service kiosk, paid and they served your food to the table. The average price per dish about $4.99-$5.99 which was very affordable. We ordered a bunch of stuff to try and none of them were disappointed. Everything was delicious. I'm quite surprised of the authentic Cantonese dimsum taste. We ordered: - pork porridge with no eggs - nice, thick and tasty - bbq pork puff (charsiu so) - crispy with bbq pork tasty fillings - soupy dumplings (xiaolongpao) - soft, soupy and tasty - chicken siumai - nice gingery yummy fillings - lotus wrapped sticky rice - very delicious - marinated eggs - this is probably my least favorite because I thought it's marinated eggs. They just put some soy sauce on it. It's just ok. - pan fried turnip cake - tasty but a little salty to my taste - fried dough rice rolls - nice and thin rice rolls with crunchy dough. The best was to drench with soy sauce which was available on the table. All these food under $56 which was the cheapest dimsum I have paid since covid. Definitely a deal and will come back to try other things in the menu. One drawback was pretty challenging to find parking on the weekends as they were all packed and spaces were very tight/compact. read more

My dad and I stopped by for lunch around 11:00 a.m. There was no line, and we both ordered the roast duck and BBQ pork over rice with greens. Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk. During checkout, I noticed the kiosk appeared to automatically include what looked like a 15% tip on our takeout order. Since I was quickly tapping through the prompts, I almost missed it. I asked an employee for assistance, and I was told I would need to restart the entire order. That was frustrating. I do tip for good service, but I generally don't tip on takeout orders. I hope the owner considers changing the kiosk settings or making the tip option clearer, as it's easy for customers to accidentally add a tip without realizing it. Our order was about $30 before the tip, but the total increased to approximately $35 after it was added. The food was prepared quickly, and our order was packed and ready within a short time. My biggest concern was with the BBQ pork. I don't blame the restaurant itself, but rather the quality control in the kitchen. When I opened my meal, approximately 60-75% of the BBQ pork consisted of fat. As shown in the photo I attached, all six pieces had more than half of each slice made up of fat. While I understand that some fat adds flavor, this was excessive. I ended up eating all of the duck but only about one-quarter of each piece of BBQ pork because the rest was mostly inedible fat. I hope the chef pays closer attention when preparing portions. Customers should receive a better balance of meat and fat, especially when paying for BBQ pork. Decent 'take out' spot to satisfy your dim sum cravings. So far, I liked the sui mai. I was actually surprised that I liked it better than I thought. There were actual shrimp inside and good mixture of pork to shrimp ratio. Plump and juicy. Even had the roe on top. I prefer this more than the dim sum on McKee near Duc Huong. I tried this place twice. First visit was because my parents and I were waiting to be seated at Pho Kim Long. I browsed and ordered a few items (baked bbq buns and lava egg yolk baos). A friend recommended this place because I wanted to get some dim sum take out. It's too far from me so they don't deliver to my house, so I went to pick it up. I set the pick up time for later, and it was ready within 10 minutes. It was worth the 1 hour round trip drive. The parking lot was stressful. Everything I ordered was so good. Final Thoughts: 4.20/5 Dim sum is really not something my friends and I eat often because there's only so many places that serve it at PM time. Usually, known to be a breakfast and AM food item, but we wanted some today and found this spot. We've tried this spot once already, but just never reviewed it. We finally got the chance to come back. Will be a solid 4 star for me today. Food: Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls: This was probably my least favorite of the items we got today. It really wasn't bad, but I just prefer for the rice paper to be thinner. This one was very thick and doughy, so the ratio of shrimp to wrapper is slightly off. Shrimps are quite small. Nicely cooked though. There is soy sauce that is added to this dish. The light umami and sweetness for the soy sauce is usually must for me for this dish. Contributes really well. Mr. SiuMai (Pork and Shrimp): 4.2/5 There are 3 pieces for this dish. This is their siu mai. The meat and filling is seasoned well. Texture is quite nice because the filling has meat and shrimp in it. This gives it a little crunch from the shrimp with some bite and chew. Soy sauce is an option and it does add a nice additional flavor to it, but it's seasoned enough to a point where you don't really need it. Each piece was quite big too, which is nice. Smells freshly made and not from a bag. Everything was cooked well and piping hot when we came out. Premium Shrimp Dumpling: 4.0/5 This is the har gow. They come with 3 pieces for this dish. Each one is quite plump and filled nicely. The shrimp are minced, but there are still some pieces visible inside. The employee actually steamed a fresh batch for us because it was close to their closing time and they didn't have enough for our order. This one came out also piping hot and fully cooked. Also very nicely seasoned. The crunch from the shrimp was just right. It wasn't fully minced shrimp for this and there are still some of the small chunks in there that give it a really good texture. Some soy sauce contributed well for this one. The wrapper to filling ratio was good. Not too thick for the wrapper and not too doughy. Crazy Shrimp Balls: 4.0/5 The texture for the shrimp balls. Texture for this one was definitely a favorite. Super crispy and crunchy on the outside and the inside has a chew and bite to it. Something to note is that these are super oily and greasy. They look like they're double fried and that might contribute to how much oil is dripping off of these shrimp balls. I like how homemade/in-house these look though. I love the crispy eggroll wrappers that give it the crispy and crunch on the outside. They seem to put more on these ones. Seems to give it more of a "crazy" look. There is the sweet and sour sauce in a packet that is provided to us. Their shrimp balls are quite well seasoned, but I do like the additional flavor that this sauce contributed to it. BBQ Pork Buns: xx One of my friend's favorite. I tried this the last time I came here, but didn't eat it this time. Their filling is quite nice. Bun is super fluffy and has that nice bounce to it. --------- Quality: Piping hot Their items are hot and appears to be right out of the steamer. Each one that came out was piping hot and could probably scald you if you eat it too quickly. I'm thinking their items are made in advance and frozen. When needed, they will take it out and thaw it. Favor and textures are still nice for most of them though. Price: Fairly priced The pricing for this appears to be normal for dim sum places. The price range will be within $7 to $9 for dim sum items and then lean more towards being $11 to $20 for kitchen items. Service: Very sweet The employees are super sweet. I'm not sure if the lady was one of the owners, but she was very welcoming and just very sweet in general. She offered to get us items and showed us where the waters, chopsticks, napkins, xyz were, which is always nice to see. Ambiance: Sit and Dine or Grab and Go The interior is very small and only fits a few tables inside. I feel like this place could be a sit and dine or grab and go kind of a space. All of their dim sum items are in the display case and then they will grab them for you. Perhaps they will heat is up for you if you are dining inside. There's only one row of tables and will house just a few groups inside. Location/Parking: Appropriate for size of the plaza Parking appears appropriately sized for this plaza. It had the spiciness from peppercorn, not chili pepper spicy. Like that it did not have any filler; mostly meat. This is a must try. The Shrimp and Chives dumplings were really good too. Had the chives flavor that tastes like milder green onions but without the bitterness leafy taste; combined with the sweet flavor from the shrimp. The bottom was slightly fried. Better than ones from fancy dimsum restaurants I've had before. One of the few dimsum places that serve salted egg custard bun which was yummy. Had the distinct yolk flavor of salted egg but without all the saltiness. The yolk's buttery umami flavor paired well with the sweet custard. Soft buns. The Har Gow was yummy, too. Like that it didn't have bamboo shoots. Full of chunks of sweet shrimp together with some shrimp paste. The rice noodles with shrimp was perfectly steamed; still retained a little bite to it. Could use more shrimp, though. Came with a sweet soy sauce dip. Hole in the wall but better than some other dimsum restaurants. They also serve noodles, fried rice, and different cold tea drinks. I am so pleased with this little dim sum spot. It's a fresh take on takeout dim sum. Quite affordable too - about $55 for enough food to feed 3. There are a handful of tables but a lot of folks did takeout. They have all your favorite dim sum dishes, including chinese donut cheung fun. Most dim sum spots around me were closed by 2:30 PM, and it was already close to 2, so my buddy and I decided to try Mr. Siumai. Walking in, I noticed they have two self-order kiosks, which is a plus. The place is remodeled and has a more modern, contemporary feel compared to before. Same location, different name. Then I saw the prices. $6 for 3 pieces of siumai!That's $2 per piece, which is honestly wild for a mom-and-pop dim sum spot. We ordered duck, fried rice, siumai, shrimp rice rolls, chicken feet, and a few other items. The siumai was just okay, nothing special and definitely not worth the price. The fried rice was good. The chicken feet were solid.The shrimp rice roll came out without the usual sauce it's always served with. When we asked, the staff just pointed to the soy sauce on the table. If you eat dim sum regularly, you know that's not the same sauce. Overall, the food was hit or miss, and the pricing doesn't match the quality. My friend wanted dim sum, so we searched around for a new place to try after a hike. We ended up at Mr. SiuMai because of the pictures. When we got here, it wasn't what I had imagined - unlike usual dimsum places, we ordered at a kiosk in front (or with a staff), sat down, and then waited for our order to come out. There's some space for dine-in, but it seems most people came in to either order to go or to just pick up. We came on a Wednesday mid afternoon, so it wasn't too packed, but I could imagine the wait during normal lunch/dinner hours. There was a good variety to choose from and we ended up ordering about 11-12 different items. All of them looked good and we wanted to try a bunch of different things. We got our own water, small plate and napkins, but staff brought out a pot of tea for us after asking if we wanted some. Our order came out pretty quickly and everything was great. I especially liked the piggie custard buns! Of course, we ended up taking a good amount to go. I would like probably come back here just to pick up some dimsum to go next time I'm around. read more

I know many of you may have read my previous review, which wasn't the most positive experience. However, I wanted to come back and provide an update because credit is due where it's earned. Despite my initial hesitation, I've returned to Mr. Siu Mai about five times since that review, largely because my daughter is obsessed with their baked BBQ pork buns and egg tarts. I'm happy to say that both the service and food quality have improved significantly, and my experiences since have been consistently positive. One of my recent favorites is the pistachio mochi ball, it's absolutely delicious. The outside is soft and chewy, the inside has a nice crunch, and it's not overly sweet. I find myself craving it regularly. While the menu is still a bit on the pricey side and I usually spend a minimum of $30 per visit, but the quality, service, and overall experience have made it well worth it. I have frequented Mr. Siu Mai a handful of times now. When the craving hits for some quick dim sum, I don't hesitate to come here. Usually I try to arrive before noon on the weekend as the parking lot can be pretty crazy. The ladies working here are efficient, and if there is nobody else in the store you can just order directly in front of the steamed dim sum and fried dim sum areas. Otherwise the kiosk shows all their offerings My favorite dim sum dish is their spicy siu mai. Once I got to try a piece of curry siu mai since they were out of the third piece of spicy and that was not bad too. I also like their chicken feet and turnip cake. With each visit we try to get something else aside from the 3 mainstays but haven't been impressed with the fried items. The rice roll when I tried it was just okay as well and not the texture I prefer. I did like their mochi and the bbq pork puffs but don't crave those regularly. Came for lunch as a group. The parking is in a lot shared with Pho Kim Long, so think in terms of small compact spaces and limited parking. There are a few tables inside and for party of 6 we managed to get a combined table near the fridge. There are 2 more small tables near the entrance and a long table for outdoor seating. I have not been back for awhile, and this time we tired a variety of dim sum. We felt that the quality has come down a bit, my judgement is: OK: Chicken feet, spare ribs, siu mai, beef chow fun Meh: sticky rice in lotus leaf, beef rice noodle roll (the house made soy sauce did not elevate any flavor), congee with pork and century egg (no seasoning) Will not order again: Shanghai dumplings XLB (thick skin and breaks at the bottom when trying to scoop it out from the tin foil. They do have soup inside. My all time favorite is their taro cake, which is sold in a whole 8" tin. It's a fridge item; I like to slice it and pan fry at home. We always come and leave here with a great impression of the place. Good employees and great foods. It's a casual and small dim sum spot, but it's filled with colorful items and buns. Love it. Credit cards accepted at both kiosk machines for dine-in or takeout. Plenty of tables and chairs indoors and outdoors here. Nice. Menu items are generous and around $5.99 per dish, it's still legit for Cantonese dim sims and affordable in the area. Yes, crowded public parking lot shared with the smoke shop, Pho Kim Long restaurant, and others. However, if you arrive on weekdays during 9am/10am or so, you'll get good VIP parking with lesser foot traffic. Downside is always this ghetto parking lot which has narrow aisles. Mr. SiuMai is worth it though. They have a cute takeout bag too. Must love. Got my order very fast. Staff was friendly and experienced. Bao buns and sweet buns are all very good in presentation over the display counter. Spare ribs, salted egg yolk buns, regular shrimp siumai, leek & shrimp dumplings, small chow mein noodles, hot tea from a pot, etc. I'll definitely come back for spare ribs again because they add the yellow pumpkin squash that I love in it. Skip ordering the boba! It's not what you would think! I ordered a thai milk tea with boba for the first time (which I thought would be the regular black pearls), but instead got a...well see the picture...crushed...crystal jelly??? I'm not sure how how else to describe. My friend and I went to double check with the workers since we thought they may have mixed up our order but they said that is how their boba is and that it was more of pearls not boba (their ordering says boba btw and aren't they the same thing?) Additionally they said since it was an add on of only 50 cents there was only a little bit. I mean...50 cents for an add on is pretty regular...for a regular amount but the issue was more like this is not what regular boba is or what you'd expect lol. Otherwise, been here a couple times (mostly for their red bean balls which r super crispy on the outside and I would say are worth). However, the first time I came here some of their dishes ...tasted kinda ...doughy (we ordered things like many diff siu mai) and gave me an upset stomach. order mr.siumai via doordash and was disappointed. we ordered the large pork and century egg congee, fried shrimp and chive dumplings, shrimp rice noodle rolls, crispy shrimp bean curd skin rolls, chinese dough sticks, and marinated egg. the congee was truly disappointing. there was thin strands of pork and small pieces of century egg that didn't equal to even a whole egg. it was mostly just the soup. it was almost like the bottom barrel of the pot with no more toppings. there was barely any pork pieces. even when we first saw the congee in its container, it was mostly white without any remnants of protein. super disappointing. the only thing redeeming with the congee was the dried chinese doughnuts that we ordered to eat with the congee. the shrimp and chive fried dumplings was cooked in a lot of oil and so there was barely anything fried about it. the pieces were also pretty small compared to other dimsum places. did not really enjoy this as well. i had to blot the oil with napkins to reduce the oil. the crispy shrimp bean curd skin rolls were also pretty oily as well. shrimp rice noodle rolls were pretty flavorless even with the soy sauce that came with the noodles. i'm sure the food is prob better in person but i think there are better places to get dimsum and congee with a better price point as well. read more

Mr. Siumai is one of those places where the highs are very high--and the rest is fine if you know what you're ordering. Start with the mochi. These are huge, pillowy-soft, and generously filled with actual chunks of fruit. Mango or durian, it doesn't matter--this is the must-order and easily the best thing on the menu. The BBQ buns have good, savory filling, but the bread itself is a bit on the firm side rather than fluffy. Same issue with the custard buns--they're shaped like the cutest little piglets and totally Instagram-ready, but the custard is bland and the bun has the same slightly hard texture. Fun to look at, less exciting to eat. For siumai, stick with the pork & shrimp. Solid flavor, classic combo done right. The chicken siumai runs a little tough (not unexpected), and overall the wrappers feel slightly over-steamed, missing that bounce and chew you want. The BBQ duck and pork fall right in the middle--not memorable, not disappointing. Bottom line: come hungry for the mochi, order the pork & shrimp siumai, enjoy the buns with tempered expectations, and treat the piglet custard buns as a novelty. This won't be some fancy sit down dim sum spit with carts of dim sum flowing. It's literally a take out spot. You can dine in but it's way more casual. I've been happy grabbing some quick take out dumplings here. The workers are nice and they try to move as quick as possible. Ordering is easy (and dangerous). You go up to the courter, check out their touch screen and photos and try not to get overwhelmed and over order. I always over order. I'm glad there's this option for their dim sum fix. read more

Warning... parking can be a nightmare We have been going to this small dim sum place (can't recall if it had a name ) for years, mainly during Lunar New Year for the annual fresh #油角 (fried peanut dumplings?). It seemed that they have changed owner, renovated and modernized the shop with touch less POS. Just glad the 油角仔 is still an available item for New Year! The place is clean but crowded, they managed to put as many tanks as possible. The POS is simple to use, but due to the vast offerings it took me a while to get what I wanted. I am sure I will be a pro soon. The dim sum tasted pretty good and the prices are reasonable. The wooden tray they use is super cute. Overall very unassuming place with good value. We found out this dim sum place when we came for pho and decided to try it out the following week. The restaurant was small but offered dim sum full day. Ordering can be done at the kiosk or with the staff. They had a pretty wide selection of dim sum. We ordered pork belly & duck with rice, Siu Mai, chicken feet, and warm soy milk. Pork belly and duck were very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came with rice and steamed lettuce. The Siu Mai we ordered had a mixture of shrimp, beef, and chicken Siu Mai, which were all freshly steamed. My favorite was the shrimp Siu Mai as the other two had strong ginger taste in them. Chicken feet were tender and well seasoned. Soy milk to my surprise, was served in a bowl instead of a cup, which was a little inconvenient to drink. Took the time to read through them, and honestly, it just seems like there are way too many complainers out there spouting nonsense. probably over minor stuff like wait times or whatever. Ignored the noise and decided to try it myself. Everything was spot on! The food was delicious steamy har gow, fluffy char siu bao, and all the classics tasted just like authentic Cantonese dim sum from back home. Never noticed Mr SiuMai only because I always come into this plaza just for Pho Kim Long. Coincidentally found this place because I was looking for quick takeout options nearby. Like always, parking here can either be okay or really bad because of all the customers going to get pho. You can either order thru the kiosk or with a worker there. Originally, we were placing our order and went to checkout just to have the entire order cancelled due to an item that was sold out.. (so best to order direct with the workers). Also I like that around 3pm we can still get dimsum! For two, we ordered: - 1 order of Sui Mai (3pcs): 4/5 - 1 order chicken feet: 3.5/5 - 1 order bbq pork rice noodle rolls: 2.5/5 - 1 order pan fried chives & shrimp dumplings (3pcs): 3/5 - 1 order taro buns (2pcs): 2/5 - 1 order large beef chow fun: 4.5/5 I enjoyed most of the dimsum items and actually like that all the items were still fairly warm when we arrived home to eat it. Located in a parking area with pho Kim long, their parking ớt is a NIGHTMARE. Never enough parking spot and is always packed. So if you get a chance to find parking, try out mr. Siumai. This place is quite small but you can order Togo as well. It has all of the most popular dishes that people usually order at dim sum. You can order ahead and pick up or order through the kiosk. There are two kiosk to order from so it might take awhile or it could be fast. After placing your order and paying, you sit down at a table with your order number and they bring it to you. It's a self service for getting your own plates, bowls, utensils and drinks like water or tea. So thought I'd put that out there. Yesterday visited the shop around 6:30 in the evening, no crowd, service OK. Ordered the barbecue pork and curry Siumai. The pork skin was hard, taste like it's not fresh and feel like the skin has been refried again. Shumai was 5.99 (3pcs) and BBQ pork was 13.99 (what you see in the picture). Feel like paying a regular price but actually getting a leftover food. BBQ pork is definitely not worth it . Anyways, just hope that the food is more fresh and tasty because the store is in the neighborhood, good food attracts more people. read more

We came in for dinner sum, but ended up we got half roast duck to go. When we got the to go box, it feels very light and when we open the box, the duck is absolutely very tiny! I've never seen such small duck and it costs over $18!!!!!! It is tasteless also. Not recommend the roast duck. read more

Came here for takeout on a Wednesday afternoon and it was popping! They had my order ready within 10 minutes even as online orders were coming in and sit down patrons were enjoying their lunch. Was very surprised to see Mr SiuMai occupy the old dim sum establishment that had been here forever. Kind of bittersweet but definitely intriguing to try something new. They have plenty of choices to pick from and you order at the large screens on the counter. They were fairly busy around noon and unfortunately ran out of their fresh soy milk by the time I arrived. I ended up ordering the crispy tofu skin with shrimp, bbq pork buns, beef chow fun, egg tarts, sesame balls with red bean, and their red bean buns all to go. I will say everything was pretty authentic. The beef chow fun contained enough pieces of beef and it wasn't chewy at all. The portion was also decent for the quality and price. I think their dim sum was a little more expensive than what I expected, around $6-7/plate, but still tasted good. The red bean buns were probably the most disappointing because it contained so little red bean paste (see picture). Will definitely be back to try some other dim sum options, and hopefully get to try their soy milk. read more
