A small hole in the wall, Very old school. Prices are reasonable. To go only. The dim sum overall was really good. Some pieces were just as good as a sit down dim sum restaurant. The price though was no where near what you pay at those place. Definetly the place to go for a snack. The chowmein was so good! The service was good but yhey do charge if you use a card.

My first order was to check them out through DoorDash with some standard items (roast duck won ton noodle soup; 1/2 roast duck; bbq pork fried rice; har gow; bbq pork buns). Everything was great. The duck for the won ton soup was just as good as the 1/2 duck quality (not overly plump duck on steroids). Tried a second time with the roast duck won ton noodle soup and more dim sum items and it was pretty much a disaster. The duck wasn't nearly as good as the previous... it was "plump". and everything else tasted stale or off (har gow; siu mai; sesame ball; flat noodles w/shrimp; dry buns). Chive dumplings were super dense. Consistency isn't there.

My family has been coming here specifically for their congee for 10+ years. When I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out years ago, their pork and thousand-year-old egg porridge was all I ate. Their prices have increased over the years, but compared to many of these shiny new iPad dim sum places that have replaced many of these no-frills mom and pop to-go dim sum places since *COVID*, it's a good deal. Don't expect to be pampered by 5-star service when coming here and don't expect the food to knock your socks off--many items are hit or miss. BUT it beats the soulless process of ordering through an iPad and getting your order spat out of the restaurant conveyor belt that's so commonplace these days for some food that tastes just okay. If I'm going to be served okay food I'd rather it be served to me by a human thank you very much. FOOD: * Egg Tarts - 10/10 sooooo flakey and delicious, I can't believe I've gone this long without having one * Shrimp Ball - 8.5/10 reheated in the air fryer next morning; flakey, crispy on the outside, and perfectly buttery and NOT salty on the inside * Shrimp w/ Bell Pepper - 5/10 I think the oily bell pepper was a bit much for me but this is good if you wanna feel healthy eating a shrimp ball * Shrimp w/ Tofu - 6.5/10 I love the double protein although the tofu was a weeee bit bitter which confused me

Ordered from doordash. The duck was decent but it had a lot of bones. The beef rice paper was good especially with the sauce.

My usual go-to order from here is the egg tarts, since I love that they have flaky crusts instead of the cookie crust but yesterday when picking up a Doordash order I decided to order their 2 item Chinese BBQ over rice. I ordered the roast duck and crispy pork belly over rice and the lady asked if I wanted vegetables and soup too, so I was pleasantly surprised. Although I feel like other places have better quality Chinese BBQ, this place is good if you're in a pinch or happen to be in the area. My only complaint is that their online ordering on their website doesn't work and their Doordash menu doesn't have everything on it. Luckily I was able to order the Chinese BBQ when I came to pick up the Doordash order. This is more of a grab and go place, since most of the seating area has been taken up by boxes. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge since the area gets crowded but still doable.

Doordash order!! This place is a hit or miss. Sometimes the har gow would be amazing with the perfect wrapper consistency, and sometimes it will be overcooked and mushy. When I got to my food, it was mushy, and then I ordered the shrimp rice noodle roll, but then they ran out and switched it to the beef one. I really would've have minded, but the beef was very mushy and tasted old. Har gow is usually a 7.5/10 here, but when I got my food this time was a 6.5/10. The beef rice noodle roll was a 5/10.

    Tasteless!

Watch out guys! This place really deserve 0 stars for the food quality and services. The indoor filled with all boxes and look very messy. Not a good place to eat dim sum or anything's else you craving for. Go to other restaurant for your own good guys!

Pretty basic dim sum options for togo. This place opens early @7am, and was the only reason my mom and I came here. The prices here are steep and portions seem smaller. Quick service... other than that, my family's go-to place is tai pan on capitol expressway. Char siu bao is whatever, since the best ones I've had were from that one bakery in Chinatown SF.

The line here get busy during lunch time so come in early. Their dim sum pieces are quite large which Is nice, but it is pricey for what it is. Overall selection Is good. It is a bit on the greasy side, but in all it will satisfy the cravings. Service is ok, if you're not asking questions too many questions, just pointing at what you want for the most part. Parking in this plaza is bad, it might be better to park closer to the grocery store side and walk over. Did not provide any utensils, might be my bad for not asking or checking before I left, but I thought it was standard since it take out.

Came here many times getting various items. I like their variety of dim sum to go items and they have decent bbq pork. The photos I posted are some of the common things I get when I come by here.

I usually come here and get the shrimp dumplings and the pork dumplings and fried rice. Yesterday I bought the same and brought it home to eat. The shrimp dumplings were not fresh anymore but tasted a little better after microwaving them. The pork dumplings were still so good as always. But the fried rice when I opened up the box the fried rice was already sour smelling. The fried rice over all was just soggy but I still tried a small spoonful and I knew it wasn't good anymore. The next day, today, I wanted to try it for breakfast but the fried is still soggy, mushy, and when I tried to pick up a little bit of it, it had like strands of something in there that looked like spider webs. It was really thin and just hanging. I remember this Korean fried rice dish with cheese at the bottom and it was amazing. This fried rice from HK dim sum is really bad. Thankfully this is the first time I've ever gotten bad fried rice from this place because they are normally very good and I've eaten here for about three years so after this experience I had to say something. It is kind of expensive too so I don't come unless I am craving it. Anyways, this will be my last time to buy their fried rice because it was so bad I am tossing it. --UPDATE January 17, 2025- Today I stopped by to get two orders of the shrimp dumplings and I told one of the ladies that worked there about my experience with the fried rice. I kept talking and talking about it and she asked me over and over what size fried rice did I get. I said I ordered the smallest one but the guy at the time gave me the medium one of fried rice. She said she asked me so she could know how much to refund me. I couldn't believe she wanted to do that. I was hesitant and said I'll never order their fried rice ever again. And she said sorry and actually refunded me for how much I paid. I felt bad getting mad at her and said she didn't do anything and didn't have to say sorry. Anyways I got my money back for the fried rice and sat there at the table and ate my shrimp dumplings quietly. I didn't know they would ever do something honest like this but they did. Anyways I am still grossed out by the old fried rice I got last time so I will just stick with the steamed dumplings that are still pretty good when you're hungry.

This satisfied my dim sum fix. Not the best but still pretty tasty. Each dim sum piece is hearty. The beef noodle roll was a sub for the prawn one but texture was still good. I'd order again if I don't have time to go into a restaurant.

I did not take a picture of the shiu mai and banh cuon but the roast and honey bbq were both succulent.

If you're going to be paying $60-$70 for two people, you would at least expect your food not to be burnt and the staff not be rude! I have been looking forward to going to this place for two years, it was a birthday dinner and I was so disappointed by my experience. I understand that it's downtown San Jose and we came in the evening, so maybe that's just how closing staff is. First off when we were seated, I asked to be moved to a more comfortable's table because the chairs were really uncomfortable for me. The staff seemed irritated and said "I guess" which was the first red flag because it's nerve-racking enough to ask for a special request and to be met with an unprofessional answer like that was disheartening. Secondly, two orders of dumplings came out burnt, which was seriously disappointing. We could barely eat them. We didn't end up finishing them. I brought this up to staff. He told me they weren't burnt and that's just how they are. I know the difference between burnt and browned and these were definitely burnt hard on the bottom and inedible. He begrudgingly told me well "I'm sorry but you'd still would have to pay for another order". I don't think that's fair at all so I said "it's fine were ok" I don't wanna give this company any more of my money anyway if this is how they treat their customers. Lastly, once we were done with our food and paid the check, the man came back to our table and asked us if there was anything he could do for us and how if we enjoyed our meal this felt like a slap in the face after everything I've already asked of him that he refused and denied and being met with a disingenuous offer just felt petty. All in all, I wouldn't go here if you're looking for food that is not burnt Service that is helpful and hospitable. Andexperience that is anything above fast casual dining.

Our entire party consisted of 6 people and although there was a lot of hustle and bustle, we were able to be seated fairly quickly regardless of us not having reservations. I came here anticipating a wonderful experience and assumed I would be wowing my family with their very first visit with HL Peninsula Restaurant. While the visit was something they wouldn't soon forget, it wasn't exactly over something positive. Menus were provided and the young gentleman asked what kind of tea we wanted. We responded with the typical "chrysanthemum" and went on with viewing the menu. We meticulously wiped down the dinnerware and the tea pot arrives. Cups are filled and a bug is found floating in one of the cups. Since there were a few gnats flying about in the restaurant, I just assumed the gnat landed in the cup and died. I flag an employee and hand off the cup while requesting for a new one. New one arrives and I fill it up with tea. Again, THERE IS ANOTHER BUG. AT THIS POINT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE BUGS ARE COMING DIRECTLY FROM THE TEA KETTLE. Our entire fam stopped drinking the tea and I am forced to flag down yet another worker- this time someone more higher up. The gentleman immediately nods his head and grabs the tea kettle. NO APOLOGY, NO QUESTIONING MY ALLEGATION, NOTHING!!! Another staff member comes out with another tea kettle of chrysanthemum and I immediately decline. I request to have jasmine instead. Good move on our part because the jasmine loose tea was not bug infested. Brunch consisted of: * SALT AND PEPPER CRAB [LIVE CRAB @ 2.2LBS] * PENINSULA HOUSE FRIED RICE * SWEET & SOUR SPARE RIBS W/ FRESH PINEAPPLES * A4 WAGYU BEEF + ASPARAGUS W/ BLACK PEPPER * SHRIMP DUMPLING * PORK AND CRAB ROE SIU MAI * CHRYSANTHEMUM TEA Food was honestly really good. The tea situation was terrible and it says a lot when the employees didn't even bat an eye about the bug complaint. He calmly nodded his head and took the tea kettle which tells me the staff knew there were bugs in there. The biggest issue is not receiving a simple "sorry" over the disgusting mishap and me knowing damn well that HL Peninsula Restaurant will continuously serve that bug infested loose chrysanthemum tea. Do better, y'all. With all the money that you guys make, you can manage dumping that bulk tea purchased from China.
