I was in a bind. I was getting married at City Hall in three days. We flew up for the wedding. I was going to look my best. I even made sure our flight would get in on Monday afternoon so I could drop my tuxedo off at the fancy French dry cleaners before they closed. But the fancy French dry cleaners wasn't open that day. Because of the pandemic, they were only open every other day, which meant they wouldn't have my tuxedo ready until after my wedding. Good thing I had kept their number in my phone for 15 years. I was able to learn about my predicament without using Yelp or Google to search. So I turned on location services on my phone, got on Yelp, and looked for a dry cleaner near my Union Square hotel. There was the magic pull quote from the review: "If they say they will have your clothes ready by a certain date/time, they will have your clothes ready by then." Well, that's exactly what I needed. So I grabbed three garment bags (because my future stepsons had suits and shirts that also needed to be pressed) and hailed a cab (because walking a couple blocks uphill with three garment bags when you're trying to make it before closing time isn't worth it). When I got to the tiny storefront, I saw a customer getting a large order for him & his wife, though he had left his ticket at home. No matter, the proprietor, whom I believe was Connie, pulled out a composition book like you'd use in 8th grade, looked up his several orders, and retrieved them. Putting the school in old-school. I handed over the garment bags, explained my situation and impending wedding. Connie reassured me that everything would be ready Wednesday afternoon and that I wouldn't have to worry. Of course, I did worry, she came through. My soon-to-be wife & I returned to find everything pressed just like I asked. The boys looked great in their new suits, and my tuxedo looked crisp. TL/DR: Amazing customer service, will not cut corners and will be upfront about everything. I came here for the first time! I brought a ton of used curtains I just received that I thought were in good condition-- instead of simply taking the curtains and my money, the owner meticulously looked through every single one and showed me the smallest holes that I missed and told me these would break down very soon. Sadly, I do not live in SF anymore, but I was in town this week and have been living out of a suitcase and needed my laundry done for the week. I wanted to avoid laundromat's, as well as expensive hotel laundry services, so I came to HLP based on the great reviews and especially because I saw that they do wash & fold service. When I came in, Connie helped me right away and was so gentle and sweet which put me at ease! I had 2 loads of laundry and she was able to get them done for me that same day. I dropped them off at about noon and they were ready by 4:30 PM which was very convenient. When I picked up my clothes, they were dry, folded, and tightly organized in my laundry bag for me. I am not sure how the pricing compares to other places since I have only gotten my laundry done once (and it was in Italy), but Connie charged $32 total for my two loads of laundry. I am guessing it would have been way less if I went to a laundromat, but I needed something worry-free since I had to work, and Connie was able to take care of the wash/dry/fold for me. Overall I was very happy with this service and recommend it to anyone who needs wash & fold! read more

HLP does a great job - better than my mom since there's no judgmental comments on why I'm not doing my own laundry but quality almost as good. Here's why you should use HLP cleaners: 1. They will wash your clothes to your specifications if you sort them out that way (hot/warm/cold wash) and put a note in the sorted out bags; they don't overheat your clothes. 2. They return your clothes folded so nicely that often you won't have to iron your clothes if you put them away properly or hang them up immediately. Even if you don't, they'll still look good when you wear them. My mom was visiting and she was impressed by how good a job they did. 3. I did the math and it would be worth your while to drop off your clothes at HLP Cleaners instead of dragging them to the local laundromat and spending time doing them yourself. 4. They don't miss deadlines. If they say they will have your clothes ready by a certain date/time, they will have your clothes ready by then. FYI, I think that over the years, they may have lost a couple of pillowcases as I can't find them. The only other disadvantage I could see of using HLP cleaners is that you might lose out on meeting that certain someone in your life by not going to the local laundromat to do your laundry. You can always alleviate this lack in your life by cruising the local laundromats - here's how: take a book / newspaper / notepad to peruse at the local joint while you scope out the prospects. When you see a likely one, make eye contact and take it from there. If necessary, you can always commandeer one of the temporarily abandoned loads of clothes as yours. HLP Cleaners is run by a nice Chinese lady who is all about good customer service. Her english is ok but is sufficient to get by. I haven't tried their dry cleaning services. If you are too busy, too scared, too tired, or in too much pain to wash, dry, and fold your own clothes, HLP Cleaners is your business to frequent. First the good points: HLP was able to dry clean my shirt in a few days (even though it was a holidy week), while some other nearby dry cleaners gave a week long turnaround time. Also, the price ($5) was in line with other nearby cleaners and the lady there was super sweet. So I hate to give a mediocre review, but I was a bit disappointed for two reasons: 1) I brought in a wing collar shirt (for a tuxedo) rather than the more common laydown collar type of shirt. HLP folded the collar as if it was laydown, leaving an ugly crease. I brought it to a different dry cleaner the next week, and they did it properly. Only the "wings" in front are supposed to be folded. I wouldn't expect a normal Joe off the street to get this right (I certainly wouldn't have before I bought the shirt), but I think it's reasonable to expect laundering professionals to know the difference. 2) I asked whether I should launder or dry clean the shirt, and she said I should definitely do the (more expensive) dry clean. But the next week when I washed it again, the other dry cleaner immediately answered that normal laundering would be fine, and it was. read more

I took five different jackets in for alterations. Some just needed the sleeves hemmed. Some had very detailed work done, like hemming the bottom of the jacket and raising the pockets up an inch and sewing the vents shut in the back. I brought another jacket in a few years back that I needed taken in quite a bit - a job that seemed impossible even to the seamstress there. On all my coats, she did an AMAZING job. I'm perpetually late ---- so it's no surprise that I'd be late everytime I went to HLP. I always knock on the door, 5 minutes after 7pm (when they close), however, they always open their closed doors when they see me running by. I love them for that. If you ever need something in a rush, the nice lady will do everything possible to get you your clothes on time. Plus, they do an incredibly amazing job with tailoring/washing/dry cleaning. I recently moved to Nob Hill and needed to find a new dry cleaner. I found this place here on Yelp! and took some suits that I needed for work. The reviews that say that the customer service at this place is unlike any other dry cleaner is completely true. The woman at the front is super friendly and very grateful to her customers. The suits were well-done, and I also dropped off clothes for wash and fold. There's no minimum weight and it's 1.25 a lb, so really reasonable, especially compared to the online services that will come and get it. I highly recommend! read more
