We went here for a weekday birthday lunch at noon. Surprisingly it was not busy. The booth tables were not roomy enough for multiple plates. We had the wonderful ton noodle soup, sautéed vegetables with snow peas, mushrooms and bok choy with the garlic white sauce instead of brown, the combo plate with bbq pork and roast duck and ordered the buns for the duck since the combo included rice, and someone else ordered the bbq pork. My apologies for no photos, when you're with a group, sometimes there's too many distractions but wanted to provide my review since this was my first time. The first impression of walking in was nothing to brag on. No greeting, the couple that walked in after me were seated first, which I thought was rude but got sat 5 minutes later. There is no ambiance so don't expect anything fancy but it seems like the food is better than most Chinese restaurants around, driving 20 miles from my location. We started with the crab rangoons that were a good size and very generously stuffed with cream cheese filling, and the fried pork/shrimp won ton that was crisp and delicious. There are not many steamed options, mostly fried. The duck and pork combo were moist and very tasty so I'd stick with their specialties. The won ton noodle soup was ok, with the broth and won tons being flavorful. I did not try the stir fried vegetables but it looked good and cooked perfectly. If it weren't so far, I may consider returning to have their seafood options. Our waitstaff seemed friendly, but not overly friendly. I'd definitely give them another try. read more

The food delicious... we have eaten in the restaurant, always order Peking Duck, and oh so much more because there are usual 10+ of us that show up,......but this past New Years Eve, we had to have our HUGE order delivered because UT was playing in a bowl game. Anyhow we did yes order Peking Duck to be delivered, as well as maybe ten more dinners, 2 different soups, water spinach, Bok Choy, fried rice and it was a big order. I wasn't expecting to find authentic, quality Cantonese BBQ in Austin. Honestly, I was hoping just for serviceable to pass the cravings in between trips home to California. Located in North Austin, Ho Ho is not the most convenient for me to get to from South Austin but having tried it now, it is definitely worth the drive. I had some errands to run so I finally was able to give it a try and ordered some BBQ staples for take out - sweet Cha Siu BBQ Pork and Roast Pork with the crispy skin. Both preparations were juicy and not dry, which is extremely hard to do. I'd say on average, ones I get from places are drier and have more chew to them. But this batch I ordered was so tender and good. And the skin on the roast pork was perfectly crisp. I'm excited to try other cuts of meat and things from the menu now that I know the quality. And I can easily see myself getting some BBQ takeout at least once a month now. read more

I came here for lunch on a Sunday and it was packed! They have a waiting section in the front for people making to-go orders. We were seated quickly on arrival. We ordered half of a Beijing duck with a side of steamed buns and scallions and cucumbers on the side. I was scrolling through DoorDash today wondering what to have for lunch and I landed on Beijing duck sandwiches again. I love a good fatty duck with a crispy skin on steamed rice buns. A little sauce, a little green onion, a little cucumber and it's a complete meal in a convenient handheld form. I think I order this about once a week, and it occurs to me I have never reviewed this restaurant which is negligent and shortsighted on my part. I'm a sucker for these cheaper, sit-down, family style, Chinese restaurants. This one is in Austin and we went after not being able to find seating elsewhere on a Friday night. We ordered a few dishes to start off, the seafood egg drop soup, a chicken dish, a tofu and mushroom dish, fried noodles, and char siu pork. My friend did the ordering so I don't know the name of some of these dishes but you can tell what's on them through the pictures. I loved the fried noodles. They were flavorful and filled with sauce. The tofu and mushroom dish was good but nothing spectacular. The chicken dish had a surprising amount of vegetables and not enough chicken. My friend loves seafood soup so he ordered it. We decided to get char siu at the end because there wasn't enough meat from the previous dishes. The char siu was tender and meaty. The sweet savory sauce on top was great. The price wasn't bad. We've been here many different times before the covid situation since it's a favorite Chinese restaurant in Austin. We enjoy the roast duck and fresh seafood from the aquarium/tank. This past Sunday we had been in town briefly and ordered food to go. Smelling the food on our drive back to San Antonio seriously made me hungry. The wonton noodle soup was top notch as usual, very comparable to Houston. The orange beef was good with a spicy kick to it. The seafood pan-fried noodle was delicious. The roast duck meat was very juicy and the skin was very crispy. Probably the disappointment was the snow pea leaves and the shrimp flat rice noodles. The vegetable seemed old and the flat rice noodles weren't on point. It seemed that the dining area was still closed. Hopefully, people are ordering food to keep this business going. read more

I sit down, water already ordered for me ( I was 20 minutes late) and they had just placed the order containing the combination for 6. Well, the portions definitely appeared to be much much larger than they ended up being. The food was very fresh and tasty, the service was so-so. The house soup had bits of crab meat in it and was kinda bland. My favorite was the Hatch Green Calamari Seafood Hot Pot. It was delicious! The duck was yummy, the chicken was flavorful. Definitely a good place to go to if you want good, authentic style Chinese food. They currently only offer delivery and takeout orders, which we didn't mind. Our food was prepared pretty quickly and everything was nicely packaged. Both bean curd dishes that we got were pretty flavorful, but the fried pork chops were definitely the crowd favorite. The food here is tasty but service is still poor. When we walked in, the woman at the cash register asked us how many in our party. She pointed us to a booth. We seated ourselves in the booth which seats five. We waited several minutes but no one came by. Another booth was seated by a waiter with their menus. Finally, we walked over to the stack of menus by the cashier and got our own menus and brought them to the table. Waiter later came by to take our order. They are not patient or give much explanation about the dishes so be ready and know what you want to order! When we were done with our meal, we waited and waited and no waiter came by. No one checked on us throughout our meal. We walked over to the area where takeout containers are stashed and got our own take out containers and packed the food ourselves. Waiter finally brought the bill. Ho Ho's seating arrangement comprises of 2/3 booths (which seat 2, 4 or 5). I saw a family of 6 cram into the booth which really fits 5. It was too crowded for all their dishes to eat comfortably. The other 1/3 of the restaurant are large round tables that fit parties of 10-12. There are also 2 slim rectangular tables in this room with the large round tables and lazy susans. If you come with a party of 5 or 6, insist on one of the large round tables. When we were there at lunch time, several of the large round tables were vacant so might as well use them. read more

Food is not bad at all, but nothing to rave about in my opinion. I would probably rate it 3/5 but the service was fast, so that bumped them up a star for me. I remember the food being better when I went years ago, but like I said, the food is still alright. I still ate my fill and felt satisfied. The crab asparagus soup seemed to be a bit bland, but the crispy squid/calamari was quite salty. The shrimp fried rice tasted pretty standard, and the portion was big for the fried rice. The fried tofu with special salt was good, but it could've been crispier. I also love snow pea leaves, but I wish they made theirs with more flavor and garlic. Overall, I would still come here again because the food isn't bad but it's not the best Chinese food I've ever had either.
