Honestly, my expectations were pretty low, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of my hoagie! I used the kiosk to order a cheesesteak with onions and was happy at how affordable it was. That being said, the "artisanal" bottle of water was ~$2.80, so that kind of negated any savings :) The food was prepared reasonably quickly, especially considering how busy they were. Definitely keep your eye on the food that's being put out on the front counter, as sometimes they don't announce when your food is ready (happened to my friend). One minor complaint I had is that they didn't slice my hoagie in half, so it was a little cumbersome to eat. The quality of the hoagie bread was actually pretty darn good - crumbly (in a good way!) and soft. The steak didn't look like it was chopped (just sort of looked like a slab) and probably wasn't super high quality, but the combination of cheese, onions, and steak hit the spot for sure. This place is probably is one of the best hoagie joints (for those who aren't from the area, hoagie = sub) that I've ever been to. Small m&p store in Princeton, and they have hoagies of all flavors. However, their specialty hoagies are probably the ones you want to try, which are a mix of amazing ingredients. These ingredients are basically things that will cause a heart attack, like mozzarella sticks, fries, bacon, etc. It's similar to fat sandwiches. I got the Wake Up Call, which has Cheesesteak, Bacon, Eggs, hash Brown, and Pork Roll all in a sub, haha. I also had fried boneless wings in their Sanchez sauce, which was absolutely amazing. The Sanchez seems to be one of their popular selections. The price is decent and not too expensive. Finally, their half size is a good 6-8" long, so it's great for 1 person. Their full size is HUGE, and probably can't be finished in a sitting. This place would've gotten a 5/5 if it weren't for a few things. Because it's a small store in a college town, you'd expect that it can get VERY busy. We came on a Friday night at 8-9pm, and it was already busy. I was told it gets worse later in the night. If you go to their website, you can see a homepage animation of the store with it packed. There's no organized line or system/way of them taking orders. Have been coming here for over 25 years. Around 5-10 years ago, something changed. I think they started branding themselves a lot more - food stayed the same great, reliable, comfort food like place. I forget when they started to get the wrapping paper branded to hoagie have - entirely not necessary and just driving costs a little bit up. I go for 5 things - pizza cheese steak, fried flounder, sausage omelet, souvlaki, and... the fries (must with salt, pepper ketchup). Over the years, they have added the phat lady, and some other things that... i'm just old fashion. Was (and I think they are still) owned by a greek family but over the years, there had been some changes. Prices have recently gone up - where a whole hoagie was going for 7 bucks or so but expect to pay 10-15 bucks. Still great quality and i'll continue to come back over and over. Oh, and am sad but understand that they have gone to snackpass for their ordering. Again, i'm just old fashion and miss the days of lines out the door, getting close enough to the glass and hearing "NEXT!", and having to yell out my order. We ordered on their kiosks and I received a text that our order would be ready in 25-30 mins. We decided to walk around for a bit but soon got a text ~10 mins later that our order was ready. I ordered a half a cheesesteak, and at any other shop that usually that means half of a full cheesesteak, because it's called a cheesesteak, not a breadcheese or a bread sandwich. I've been coming to Hoagie Haven for so many years, so I definitely have a lot of nostalgia and love for this place. I've contributed to the forever oil stains by the benches right in front of the shop. Never had my photo on their wall but I for sure gave them outs when I was in Boston and now in California. However, one negative thing on the heart stop sandwich (the flavors are awesome) is that it does not have enough meat. They give you one strip of steak. Unfortunately, all the other flavors of egg, cheese, and bacon overtake the steak so I don't notice the steak in there. Also tried chicken Pachanga several times, which has tiny hard tacos inside!! A lot of grilled chicken, which I appreciate. The hard tacos get soggy and are not crunchy though. The idea of it is good, but doesn't really add anything to the sandwich. We left the house right away and got the message the food was done within 5 mins of leaving, meaning when we got our order it was ice cold. We ordered a cheesesteak hoagie and a cheese burger. If the Full sandwich is double that, then that's a heart attack right there. They're made fresh to order so it took about 10 minutes before I got my sandwich. I have been to Hoagie Haven over a dozen times and I can't stop coming back to it. There's unquestionably a cult following to this place, and it is deservedly so. When you walk into the shop you'll notice a paucity of seating. It's not ideal but there's some stools by the window and a couple benches outside to bask in the storefront as you chow down. You can also take your food two doors down to the recent extension for ahead orders. The line moves pretty well, and I can't speak to rush hour. That being said I've normally not normally encountered much of a line due to the weird hours I go. You'll be in and out in no time. The food...is something else. Few places on Earth can you expect to find a Hoagie with french fries, mozzarella sticks, and fried chicken (to list one sandwich which contains but a limited number of wacky, comfort-type food options). This place essentially is that, a place for hoagies to serve as vehicles for comfort food. Don't expect to come in here if you're watching your figure, as even the half sandwiches available are quite weildy. All that being said, if you're in the same county you should come here. I wonder if the denizens of Princeton are miffed that Yelp's highest rated "restaurant" in their fair city is this unadorned sandwich shop with a steady stream of undergrads ordering their submarine sammies to transport back to their dorm rooms. I had been curious about the place on my last two business trips here but never found the opportunity to go until now. I ordered half of a cold hoagie, the Provolone Cheese, Pressed Ham and Salami (see photos). What did I think? It was exactly what I wanted. Speedy service. Dirt cheap at just $3.50. Sloppy with all the fixings piling out. What I didn't expect - and I believe this is the clincher for people - is the soft, fresh Italian torpedo roll that housed all the ingredients. It doesn't look like the bread is baked on the premises, but it sure tastes like it. The sliced meats are definitely a cut above the machine-processed cold cuts Subway appears to use, and the oil and vinegar doesn't have a rancid after-taste. Besides, I walked in and out in less than four minutes.
