The service was good. Fast friendly and efficient. I got the meatloaf and it was flavored well and cooked perfectly. Loved the flavor and the crunchy crispy edges. The mashed potatoes also flavored well and buttery. Nice and creamy. Green beans complimented the meal perfectly. The shepherds pie was very good. Again the mashed potatoes perfect and the beef seasoned and cooked perfectly also. The onion rings perfectly crispy and delicious. Not overly breaded. They had live music when we were there and was nice. Id be back for sure. Good meatloaf is hard to find in San Diego for some reason.

If you've ever driven past Hob Nob Hill, you might not expect much from the outside--but step in, and you're instantly transported. The interior is a beautifully done retro dining space, complete with elegant chandeliers that give it a charming, vintage-chic feel that totally contrasts the modest exterior. I came in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised from the start--each meal comes with a complimentary warm muffin that was incredibly tasty and a perfect way to begin. The food overall did not disappoint. The Belgian waffle combo stood out; since most breakfast combos comes with pancakes while my husband prefers waffles (and my husband usually has to order separately). The Laurel was another highlight--a delicious spinach omelet topped with feta that felt both hearty and fresh. A couple things to keep in mind: weekends can come with a long wait, and parking can be a bit challenging. That said, with plates ranging around $15-$20, the quality and experience make it well worth it. Definitely a breakfast spot we'd come back to.

Wanted to have a diner style breakfast and this place was recommended by staff members at our hotel. What a great recommendation. I really enjoyed my breakfast. I had two buttermilk pancakes which were really fluffy and lite along with two pieces of bacon. It was really good and the service was great.

Ordered the chicken and waffles to go. Underwhelmed. A much better option is Sunnyboy Buscuit Company in Hillcrest. The order was also cold.

Hobnob Hill -- San Diego -- 3 stars Truly a gem -- easy to find, though parking can be a bit of a hunt. The food is superb: thoughtful flavors, well-balanced plates that show a distinguished palate without pretension. The atmosphere is uniquely warm and inviting, adding to the charm. Service was on point -- attentive and polished -- even though it was just the two of us at the time. Classic spot with real staying power in San Diego; love that you can still order an honest Old Fashioned here. A cool find that delivers both comfort and culinary finesse. -- Captain 619

Yummy place for a Sunday breakfast! We walked in and we were welcomed in and sat down so quickly! Our server was very kind and gave great suggestions! I'm so glad I was able to try the Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich, it was delicious and very filling! The update was a cool mix of an old school restaurant and a diner! I can't wait to come back for their jazz nights!

This morning was my first time trying this place after hearing multiple great recommendations from my friends. The staff and food did not disappoint, actually exceeded my already high expectations. Melissa was my take out server, she greeted me promptly and offered a menu so I could better prepare to order since most times online menus are not up to date. Although the blt&e was not on the menu but online she still was able to take the order and the kitchen did an impressive job with it! Decent amount of bacon and my boyfriend whose a picky eater absolutely loved it. Thankfully i was able to sneak a bite or two. :) I ordered the fried green tomato benedict, an interesting twist on an eggs benedict and it was SO delicious. They used fried green tomatoes instead of the english muffin and although that may sound weird, it actually is something i would prefer over english muffins! They prepared this perfectly. Last but definitely not least the coffee cake was a must. I mean look at all these delicious fresh pastries they have up front for display! I will definitely be back and look forward to dining in as the restaurant looked super clean, food was spectacular, and staff was welcoming. Thank you Melissa and the hob nob heart of house and front of house teams!

Hob Nob Hill in San Diego was a bit of a mixed experience for us, mainly because we came for one specific thing and just barely missed it. My girlfriend was craving breakfast in the middle of the afternoon and we came here thinking it was all day breakfast. Unfortunately the day we went they cut breakfast off at 3 and we arrived right after so we missed it. We ended up grabbing a quick cocktail for the road and then had to settle for Denny's to satisfy the breakfast craving, which was disappointing because we were really looking forward to trying this spot. That said the place itself made a good first impression. Inside was well decorated, clean, and had a nice classic feel. The short interaction we had with the servers was good too. Friendly and helpful, and they let us know that starting next month they'll have a stable menu with all day breakfast included so this mix up shouldn't happen again. The drinks we had were solid but since we didn't actually get to try the food, I'm giving it 3 stars for now. I'm definitely open to coming back when all day breakfast is back so I can give it a proper try.

This review is reflective of my last visit prior to the current views under new ownership. I'm catching up on reviews that include photos from my photo roll. I've been here several times -- a few times with friends, and one time to bring my parents who were visiting from out of town. The first two visits with friends, I had the same omelette with cottage cheese, and I wasn't disappointment with the dish at all. It came with toast, but I passed since I'm on keto. The other time I came with my parents. They absolutely enjoyed the experience with their dishes. My dad had a pastrami sandwich with fries, and my mom tried the quiche. I'm curious as to how the service and quality are now based on the most recent reviews, so I'm looking forward to that update after I visit again!

Been a regular here for years so we were a bit weary of the new ownership. However, a year in and the ownership has earned our trust. The food is really good and though there are things we miss, we keep coming back. Especially for Carlos the bartender. Attentive, friendly, fun, and funny. And, he knows how to make a drink or 3!

Sunday breakfast after church. We have been here a few times. We waited a few minutes to be seated. I ordered hot chocolate, it was good. I got the meat scramble with hashbrowns. The scramble wasn't good. It was a blob of eggs and meat. It was burnt at the bottom not even scrambled. I picked at the meat.

We made a reservation and although we arrived on time, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

His questions guided my indecision towards a Berkshire Old Fashioned that was fantastic despite my fumbling to get there. I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. The cocktails were also much stronger than anticipated. We sat at the bar this time instead of at a table, and the seating felt very cramped. The bar stools were so close to the standing area that it was difficult to even pull out a chair without people brushing past. Because of that, we ended up finishing our food and drinks and leaving pretty quickly instead of lingering and enjoying the experience.
