Huge portions, tasty and fresh! The service was friendly but do keep in mind they get busy fast! The place was cute, clean and a different set up outside. The mead flights are great!

I used to come here about 20 years ago with my sister. I can't believe it's been that long. Not sure why it took me so long to come back, but I sure am glad that I did. Food: all of the food was simply amazing! The burger was top-notch, made fresh and made the perfection. The real winner here is the wings. Unbelievable. They should be known for their wings. These wings are so good. They don't even need any type of sauce. These are some of the best fried chicken wings I've ever taste. The seasoning they put on these wings along with the crispy crunch my god this is a very special wing. If you like wings, you must come back here to try their wings. I'm telling you right now. This is one of the best wings I've had ever. All of the appetizers were amazing. We got some stuffed jalapeño poppers, which were simply. Along with some shrimp eggrolls. Everything on the menu was good. The service was great. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful. She's the one that recommended the wings. The outdoor seating is absolutely amazing . The indoor seating is cool as well. We enjoyed all of their food and will definitely come back ASAP. Once again, I can't believe it's been 20 years, but I'll tell you what this is gonna be in rotation for us . Easy five star review.

I know absolutely nothing about Lord of The Rings or The Hobbit, but came for a catch-up lunch with the lab! Their menu is pretty extensive so I decided to just get a fruit salad since I've been craving fruits,,,, super delicious!! It consisted of cut up kiwis, cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes, and bananas- all combined in greek yogurt with chopped almonds and coconuts shavings. I also substituted the honey for agave and overall the plate was super yummy and simple. :)

We visited this cute little spot when we were in Houston visiting friends. It is a must for Tolkien fans. The menu items are all cleverly named for characters from the series. We waited half an hour for a table during a holiday Monday at lunchtime. The service was friendly. I ordered a delicious fruit salad, the hub had the Uruk fries, and our friends split a large lamb burger. I'm not sure I would need to return, but it was a fun outing.

The food was amazing! I took the Morgoth challenge and it was worth every penny! The mead selection was mind blowing. The ambiance was inviting and allowed me to enjoy my food more. The service was lacking a bit. I understand that they were short staffed and they were training, but they could have taken a bit more concern and checked more to ensure I was good. But they were very friendly.

The atmosphere was awesome, the food was fabulous we shared the world renowned curry chicken salad sandwich. Enough food to share, Very good. Our server was amazing, the drinks were great mango smoothie and the green cucumber drink was amazing. Everyone should go experience this restaurant

I ate here way back in the 70's when it was strictly vegan and it was great, and i've never been vegan. Now they cater to everyone. Even better! My wife and I decided to try the beef and chicken fajitas with lots of grilled bell peppers and onions and a side plate of rice, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, pico de gallo and black beans. I picked flour tortillas to go with these goodies. We were amazed at how good this was and plentiful. I had to get an a la carte shredded chicken enchilada with mole sauce...this was another 5 star menu item. We shared a glass of Eureka Heights Buckle Bunny beer...yum! We'll be back and I won't take as long this time. Great service by Gabe, he made us feel welcome.

Came here for a friend that is a big LOTR fan - he seemed to enjoy the space! He was mainly appreciating this display case of a bunch of LOTR figures and trinkets when you walk in the front. This place was hopping on a Sunday afternoon even though it was close to 2pm. Even so, we were seated in about 10 minutes and service felt timely. The menu is a lot to take in - I found myself needing to read everything because so many items are proper nouns/character names that have no obvious correlation to the food item. We ended up going with the classic Dwalin and the Balrog Burger. Also not pictured are the shrimp rolls. The shrimp rolls reminded me of a crab rangoon, but shrimp. We thought it was a little odd that there's just a pile of raw, shredded carrots that comes with the rolls. The Dwalin is supposedly an award winner, according to the menu, so we had to try it. I personally think the concept is not quite my taste, but my friend enjoyed it. We also got the Balrog Burger which is an impressive sight to see! I enjoyed that one much more, though, I had to deconstruct it to eat it because it was so massive. I think overall the food is decent, and the portions are massive. I think food is 3/5, value is 4/5, and I'll just round up on the stars for the theme and uniqueness of this place. Definitely open to coming back and sharing the Morgoth Burger with a couple friends! Free parking in the lot! I think they only accept reservations for parties larger than 6.

Saruman's Caesar Burger

Honestly, fairly disappointed. I've heard so many good things about this place and truly it was lacking in so many things. The patio was cute , had us excited and confirming our choice to try for the evening. No one inside at all, but some on the patio. We had queso, the Caesar burger and the Grouper burger. Onion rings & fries aren't homemade, mediocre at best. Sad simply because we asked if they were handmade in house and were told they were. Caesar burger was kind of just meh, nothing special. Grouper burger the same. The music was really throwing us off on the atmosphere and vibes because it was a mix of new songs playing. Felt like they would play more into the hobbit theme but was left with the feeling of missing something. Our waitress was okay but overall also not helpful. Ordered drinks, brought out waters. Received our apps, asked for drinks again & didn't get them until thirty minutes in when we got our entrees. Non alcoholic, soda fountain drink....but not an issue. We asked for ketchup, waited until almost through with our food before bringing. Paid and asked for receipt, never received it even with waiting another ten minutes and asking again.

If you're looking for an upscale place with white linen napkins and waiters in black tie then this is not your joint. If you love an old school Hobbit themed menu and staff that have pointed ears and are very friendly then this is your vibe! They were very nice and did their best to absolutely help all of the diners on a Saturday evening to be seated and served as quickly as possible. While we were there for a little longer than we normally would be, that just gave us more time to take in the scenery, and chit chat amongst ourselves. Unfortunately with the gemrification of this area I cannot imagine that these little restaurants will last more than another 5 years so do everyone a favor and go get yourself a great carnivore or vegan burger today!

Wow! Just... wow…read more Loved this place from the moment I walked in! Ambiance was super fun and welcoming. The tubs of ice filled with cold drinks all around as you approach the counter was casual and fun. And the staff was welcoming and friendly. The menu had so much variety, without being overwhelming. Anything from a good pazole, to a brisket Rueben, to an American Italian sandwich! I got the báhn mì sandwich, which was bursting with flavor! The pork was seasoned well and had good flavor from the marinade. The cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeno, all were so fresh and vibrant! And I was able to get homemade chips and fresh strawberries as my side - such a refreshing bite the strawberries after a rich, porky, spicy bite from the sandwich. Can't say enough good! Loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat!

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

I ordered the Cotto & Crudo pizza and the Pollo Milanese sandwich, and honestly, I can't say which I liked more. I finished the sandwich at the restaurant because I knew it just wouldn't hit the same as leftovers. The chicken was THICC. And why is it that a good heirloom tomato can absolutely make a sandwich? Because this one did. Add in the spicy mayo, melted cheese, and super thick yet airy focaccia, and it was a solid 10/10. Now for the pizza- it was fantastic at the restaurant and somehow just as good the next day. The mortadella is a nice, mellow complement to the obvious star of the show (in my opinion): the pistachio cream. Also 10/10.

Tartuffo pasta - 7/10 - the truffle cream sauce was delicious - creamy but not heavy, but the cheese in the cheese tortellini lacked flavor and did not add to the overall experience of the dish. Parking can be tight depending on the time/day. This location feels like it has more indoor seating and a better patio than The Heights which is more exposed to the outdoor elements off the trails. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before until old photos I posted showed. I'm used to The Heights location which is closer to me. It's been about 5 years when I first moved to the loop that I went here with a friend. I had the OG Brussels sprouts which were my favorite when they still had Benjy's in Rice Village. It was a staple for 25 years. They closed in 2020 to expand Local Foods. Pretty bummed because Benjy's was great and had an amazing pecan-crusted goat cheese appetizer with pita. It had more of a cocktail lounge vibe that my friends and I would frequent back in grad school for HH. They had another location off Washington, but that is also closed and is now Forget Me Not. Anyways, the Brussels sprouts were amazing, and I always loved them. I'm glad that Local Foods occasionally features it as a special. I usually gravitate towards the crunchy chicken sandwich. The pretzel bun is everything, and the filling is loaded. If you have a bit allergy, this is not for you. It has pecans in them. I like the added potato chips, too. This time I tried the tacos de camote which was a sweet potato taco. I couldn't find any photos of it on this Yelp page, but I've had sweet potato tacos before in Scottsdale and was hooked. I didn't expect two large wedges on sweet potato lodged in a taco shell. It was delicious and carmelized. You could hear the crunchy outside texture. Loved that. What I didn't love was the difficulty of eating it. The wedges were huge, and the sweet potato was too hot and steamy. It would've been better had they been diced. The pumpkin seed mixture was good but too spicy with the jalapeños. I like spicy food but didn't expect that. The tacos needed salsa or crema to cut through the heat. I picked off the jalapeños and fork and knifed the sweet potato after a few bites with the taco shell. The taco itself is a blue nixtamilized corn tortilla. It held up the taco filling fairly well considering the huge wedge of sweet potato. It also dripped the oil off the sweet potato. I couldn't taste much of the refried beans. I liked these tacos, but it was a little too spicy and didn't have the acid it needed to make it better. I ate the sweet potatoes and nixed the tortillas. As for the sides, I usually get the kale salad because theirs doesn't taste like dirt. Lol. They add enough lemon, pine nuts, golden raisins and Parmesan cheese to make it taste better. I could eat a bowl of that. It's always served in a tiny container. I also get their homemade potato chips. It's dusted with Old Bay seasoning. It can be oily at times, though. This time, I tried a seasonal side of strawberries that was recommended by the guy at the register. It was delicious. The strawberries were soaked in a slightly sweet simple syrup with chopped basil. They have a variety of lemonades, tea, fountain drinks, cocktails and refrigerated beverages to choose from. Lemonade can be too sweet, so I dilute it with ice and water. I like that it's open with the cups and plastic to-go cups if that's your preference. I've always enjoyed what Local Foods offers and like that they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Service is friendly, and it's a nice, casual place to dine in or on the patio.
