You order up front, move to the register to get drinks, then take your number to the table of your selecting. We chose to eat outside. The fish and chips, clam chowder in a bread bowl, and the onion rings were all good. The fries had a great, double fry to them. The fish had a great fry on them, airy and crunchy. I found myself in Morro Bay with exactly enough time to spare for a late afternoon lunch, so of course seafood was on the menu (and Hofbrau popped up on Yelp). Imagine my surprise, when I arrived, and their specialty is my fave thing on earth: the French Dip! Caught between my cravings for seafood and my love of the Dip, I decided on a classic FD with a side of clam strips. It was all delish! The side of clam strips was the perfect little treat to munch on as I awaited the main course: a French Dip piled HIGH with perfectly cooked roast beef, and topped with some truly melty provolone goodness. Bonus points for the nice side of fresh horseradish that I spread all over that toasty bun before dumping this hunka hunka burning sandwich into a generous cup o' au jus. Tried the French Dip Sandwich -- The sandwich itself was solid. Great bread-to-meat ratio, with soft, fresh bread and incredibly tender meat. I often forget we have this great restaurant here and that it is still a good deal as I first came here in 2002 and didn't really come back often. I finally got around to coming back after recommending it to a few people, especially once my parents moved here. So glad I did, this place has stood the test of time for a reason, the food is good, it is affordable and they are quick. Fries are great too. While I didn't have their signature hand carved beef, I will certainly be sure to come back soon for it and bring my recently transplanted parents as they are big fans of roast beef. Looking forward to coming here more regularly instead of just recommending it to others visiting. The patio is always a great spot to hang out and watch the boats, sea lions and seagulls as well as have our dog. It is always fun to watch them freshly slice the meat off of the roast. What a wonderful gem of an authentic Hoffbrau in Morro Bay. As you walk in you're greeted with a massive prime rib ready to be sliced into sandwiches. The food is always hot and fresh. The restaurant looks newly remolded with large ample picture windows facing the bay and Morro Rock. My sandwich had generous helping of freshly sliced prime rib. There are condiments that offer different tastes to your sandwich. The menu has many different sandwiches along with dipping sauce. Been coming here for 30 years since it was down on the other end of the Embarcadero. The last few times we've stopped in , it just doesn't have the flavor it used to. The food isn't bad but it's really just kinda blah. Au jus is hit and miss. Flavor on roast beef is mediocre. And the corned beef/ pastrami is just sliced sandwich meat . Service is always great and its always clean though. Hate the public restrooms they use but can't fault them for location . Had lunch there today. We were referred there by a local when we asked for a referral on where to go for fish and chips. She told us they were known for there roast beef sandwiches, but that their fish and chips were good as well. So my husband and I decided to split a basic roast beef sandwich and a 2 piece fish and chips. We loved everything about the meal! Ordered the roast beef sandwich with extra au jus and a side bowl of clam chowder and the food was excellent but I need to ding one star because of the cost. $17.50 for a sandwich with cheese is outrageous. That said the ambiance of sitting outside, seeing the boats and water, and the quality do make up for it. This is a go to stop for me but I'm afraid I'll be priced out of coming here sooner rather than later. Stopped into Morro Bay for lunch and soon found myself here. Parking is a breeze during the week and the location is bayside with a great view. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and told orders were taken at the register. It was chilly so a clam chowder in bread bowl sounded great. The prices are fair and the location is clean. After placing my order I was provided with a number for my table which I took outside to enjoy the view and the fresh air. I took a seat which appeared to be right across from the Morro Bay rock. I also had a great view of the activities occurring in the bay. My soup soon came out and it was definitely a palate pleaser. Creamy with more clams than potatoes. The bread was buttery and with just the right exterior crisp and amazing interior softness. This was a very enjoyable lunch experience and I will be back. Right when you walk in you order and pay at the register. You're given a number and you seat yourself. My boyfriend and I always split the French dip and add pepper jack cheese. The meat is stacked up high and is extremely tender and juicy. The au jus is always so rich and perfectly salted as well. I love pickles and their pickles are so crunchy and not too sour- an excellent compliment to the rich sandwich. There's plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside right by the water. It's a great place to bring family or hangout with friends. The service is quick and the food is priced fairly for how large the portions are.
