Hofbrau was recommended by my daughter's friend and it was bomb.com! Ordered the hot & spicy (roast beef dip with jalapeños and pepper jack cheese), pastrami sandwich and zucchini fries. Employees were fast and friendly & had our food ready in about 10 minutes. We got our order to go and ate outside on a nearby bench and had a great view of the bay. The top round they promote is a bland, low grade product common at mediocre coffee shops. The French fries are the coated variety that restaurant supply trucks supply to restaurant owners who cut corners. I gave up and left it all on the table. Been coming here for 30 years since it was down on the other end of the Embarcadero. The last few times we've stopped in , it just doesn't have the flavor it used to. The food isn't bad but it's really just kinda blah. Au jus is hit and miss. Flavor on roast beef is mediocre. And the corned beef/ pastrami is just sliced sandwich meat . Service is always great and its always clean though. Hate the public restrooms they use but can't fault them for location . Overall we'll be back but probably won't be our first choice next time we're in town . read more

Had lunch there today. We were referred there by a local when we asked for a referral on where to go for fish and chips. She told us they were known for there roast beef sandwiches, but that their fish and chips were good as well. So my husband and I decided to split a basic roast beef sandwich and a 2 piece fish and chips. We loved everything about the meal! The batter on the fish was light, the fries were good and no problem with having extra tartar sauce. The roast beef was huge, good quality meat and bun, and came with a dill pickle and dip. My husband enjoyed 2 IPAs. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed their view of the bay. A glass of the house chard was only $6.50, but I have to admit, you only get what you pay for with choice. Ordered the roast beef sandwich with extra au jus and a side bowl of clam chowder and the food was excellent but I need to ding one star because of the cost. $17.50 for a sandwich with cheese is outrageous. That said the ambiance of sitting outside, seeing the boats and water, and the quality do make up for it. This is a go to stop for me but I'm afraid I'll be priced out of coming here sooner rather than later. Service was amazing everyone was friendly and they did give me extra au jus for free which was very kind. If you've never been, definitely give them a shot at least once. What a wonderful gem of an authentic Hoffbrau in Morro Bay. As you walk in you're greeted with a massive prime rib ready to be sliced into sandwiches. The food is always hot and fresh. The restaurant looks newly remolded with large ample picture windows facing the bay and Morro Rock. My sandwich had generous helping of freshly sliced prime rib. There are condiments that offer different tastes to your sandwich. The menu has many different sandwiches along with dipping sauce. Stopped into Morro Bay for lunch and soon found myself here. Parking is a breeze during the week and the location is bayside with a great view. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and told orders were taken at the register. It was chilly so a clam chowder in bread bowl sounded great. The prices are fair and the location is clean. After placing my order I was provided with a number for my table which I took outside to enjoy the view and the fresh air. I took a seat which appeared to be right across from the Morro Bay rock. I also had a great view of the activities occurring in the bay. My soup soon came out and it was definitely a palate pleaser. Creamy with more clams than potatoes. The bread was buttery and with just the right exterior crisp and amazing interior softness. This was a very enjoyable lunch experience and I will be back. I kept trying to avoid this because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get an authentic Bavarian meal here but we finally went in on a Thursday night. The host/cashier was so spunky and knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions. I really didn't know what to expect but we ordered some dips(The County Jail???) with beef + pastrami + cheese and, BOOOOYYYYY, was it delicious. So tender and the au jus was perfect. We sat on the patio and saw an otter and sea lion just below- it was incredible. We were then harassed by one prepubescent seagull through the plexiglass partition the entire meal but it was cute and it was crying/begging instead of screaming at us. 4 stars only bc they don't have a full bar- that would have thrown me over the edge. Hofbrau is the place to go if you love French dip! Though the parking connected to the restaurant is on the smaller side I've never ran into problems finding a spot. Right when you walk in you order and pay at the register. You're given a number and you seat yourself. My boyfriend and I always split the French dip and add pepper jack cheese. The meat is stacked up high and is extremely tender and juicy. The au jus is always so rich and perfectly salted as well. I love pickles and their pickles are so crunchy and not too sour- an excellent compliment to the rich sandwich. There's plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside right by the water. It's a great place to bring family or hangout with friends. The service is quick and the food is priced fairly for how large the portions are. I have been coming to Hofbrau for almost 50 years.. I have always loved the fish and chips and the roast beef sandwich. Unfortunately the last 3 or 4 times I have gone I am not sure what is happening to the quality or in my case cooking. The fish and chips were very under cooked, greasy and soggy, not crispy like I am use to. They changed the fries, which use to be a delicious beer battered and crispy and instead were undercooked and no flavor. I understand things happen. Considering how many times I have been dining there for over the last 50 years they have been always consistent and delicious.. but..... the last 3 or 4 times we have gone have been disappointing, undercooked and no flavor..
