    Fish & chips
    Bradley G.

Every time I visit Morro Bay I stop in at Hofbrau for their fish & chips. On my most recent visit (8/30/26) the service & food were wonderful. The young woman working the register was super friendly, helpful, & accommodating. I, of course, ordered the fish & chips which were every bit as wonderful as I remember. The fish was beautifully clean tasting with a very light & crisp batter. Not too heavily coated. I also ordered a Reuben for the next day and the kitchen staff made it when I had finished my meal so it was fresh and offered to put all the condiments and sauerkraut on the side for me. The staff went above & beyond on this visit, and I am appreciative of their efforts.

Firstly, if you're able to sit outside I'd highly recommend enjoying the beautiful scenic views. The young lady taking our order was very sweet, she was able to explain the popular items on the menu and gave us her recommendations. The best part of the meal were the French fries, however the portions and pricing of it were not the greatest. The amount of fries in the little basket were quite disappointing and I wish we had more. Unfortunately, the clam chowder we ordered came out a little cold. The sandwiches that we ordered were subpar and definitely not worth the price.

The views of the rock are spectacular. The service is Hofbrau style. The food was pretty good - though we went with fish dishes instead of traditional hofbrau food. My fish and chips were very fresh and super hot, but a little greasy, and the chips were simply French fries. The tartar sauce was delicious and plentiful.

The food is very good. You seriously have to have a burger. It' has a perfect char with a medium/medium rare middle. Full of flavor as well. The service is quick and attentive. I'll be back. They have outside seating. It was quick as well. Clean environment as well. I love it here.

Decent corned beef on the water. Ordered a cup of clam chowder, as well as the corned beef sandwich/dip, which I split with my dad. Clam chowder was a classic style, not too chunky. Corned beef sandwich was good, but preferred it not dipped. For Diet Coke fans, their soda machine was super carbonated, so it was good. Overall, good food, efficient ordering, and nice spot on the week.

Very nice cashier who greets you and takes your order. You're given a number and you get your own utensils. The food is brought to your table. We ordered the clam chowder and shared the roast beef sandwich. It was a good thing we split it - it's huge! Lots of meat! We also had the clam strips. The clam chowder was great. The view is nice and you can sit inside or outside. Good locals place.

Got the roast beef sandwich and German potato salad. Was disappointed that the meat was not rare and a bit overcooked. The flavor was good though. Take a look at the photo and compare to other photos where the meat is nice a rare. I have had better here previous and same for the potato salad it. So I had had better of both items here in the past. I still love the fast service and sitting outside with a view.

We ate here while exploring Morro Bay. You walk in and review an overhead menu and place the order with the cashier. There seemed to be some good food options here as well as beer selection. We ordered and grabbed a table outside with a nice view to Morro Rock. We ordered a Rueben sandwich, a chicken sandwich, a chicken sandwich with avocado, bacon and cheese (ABC) and fish n chips. The Rueben and ABC chicken sandwich were great! I was impressed with the gourmet lettuce and the brioche bun. The other two items, regular chicken sandwich and the fish n chips were OK. Since this isn't a full service restaurant, the service is tough to grade the but the employees were pleasant. 3.5 stars!

Same standard fare with the usual suspects. Roast beef sandwich was average but au jus lacked seasoning and rather bland. Bread was fresh and soft. Views of the bay.

    So bomb pastrami sandwich!

Went back again! And it was even better! Got the hot pastrami on the roll this time instead of the rye. Wow what a difference. Way less soggy and easyer to eat! And i love the frys! Service with a smile, and seating right on the bay. Perfect location for pastrami goodness.

It comes with two pieces of Texas toast. Nicely toasted with a buttery crunch on the outside, yet fluffy anf soft on the inside. Perfect for dipping. Now, about the chowder... The LOADED seafood chowder wasn't really good, it was DELICIOUS!! Our server said it's actually award winning! We will definitely return for their chowder. So flavorful and creamy! Perfect! Our server, Kaitlyn, she was super sweet and also the best. Very thoughtful in thinking of everything. Thank you, Kaitlyn! Morro Grill's reviews looked pretty good so we're looking forward to returning to try their other menu items. Especially their homemade carrot cake that Kaitlin recommended but we were too full. They're located upstairs but they have an elevator if you need it. They have indoor and outdoor seating (right on the water). The outside can get a little warm on sunny days but not as hot as the Central Valley! Morro Grill has only been here a year but we hope they'll last many more, for our return trips!

All this while we enjoyed two very cold beers - Michelob ultra for the babe and a Big Sur Double IPA on tap at 9.6 ABV for me. All this, paired with the wings, which were outstanding BTW, and it made for a great stop. Other things to know. -Order of 12 wings can be split into two flavors (choice of buffalo, bbq, or mild). We didn't have to wait very long for our table of 6 to be seated. We were promptly offered beverages and ordered an appetizer. Crab cakes to start were excellent! I didn't have any of this, but my 1 year old shared it with her and there were no complaints from either. My step father ordered the baja fih tacos. These were absolutely delicious as well! My boyfriend got their fish and chips, zero complaints. Also incredibly tasty. I ordered the clams and linguine noodles. I have to say... These were one of the most delicious preparations of clams I have EVER had. The most flavorful broth. Garlicky, tomato-y, phenomenal. We inhaled every bite and asked for some bread to soak up the goodness at the end. 10 outta 10, reccomend!! On a quick day trip on a Friday afternoon, we decided to give this place a try. No reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Although we did not have a full bay view, we had a partial bay view. Some hits and misses with food and service. 1. Bowl of Clam Chowder (no bread bowls available). Chowder was piping hot and had nice pieces of clams (dad got a bit of clam shell..so be careful), celery and potatoes. The chowder was very creamy and not grainy or watery like other locations. I would definitely order again 5/5 2. Fish & Chips: Fresh Pacific cod, lightly breaded, served with house-made tartar sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. 5/5 3. Seafood Pasta: Linguini with jumbo prawns, fresh catch, Cajun cream sauce, garlic bread. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly 5/5 4. Side of Garlic bread: extremely disappointing. We ordered garlic bread with our chowder, it never came. Waitress decided to serve it with the mains (fish and chips) and we ordered for the entire table and she only brought 2 pieces. 5. Insalata Molina: Mixed greens, arugula, pear, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, mango vinaigrette. Couldn't tell you if this was any good bc the waitress NEVER brought but charged us for it. She then takes it off the bill and brings me the salad in a Styrofoam container. I told her I didn't want it and put it in my bag. Salad was so soggy (which means the kitchen prepared it and the waitress forgot to serve it) I would not order and do not recommend ordering it bc it was the size of a side salad definitely not worth the price point. 6. Mocktail Lavender lemonade: definitely not balanced, was pretty tart and again the price point was off. It was about 8oz lemonade for $12 They do offer a nice selection of wines. Restrooms are located outside the restaurant and are public restrooms, pretty dirty and out of stock. Although our service was a big miss, I do recommend the food items we ordered. I did take a star off due to the service.
