This was my first time visiting the Hollywood Beach Cafe, and I'm happy to say it won't be my last! I met a friend there around 9:30 AM on a Saturday morning. The cafe is located on a quiet street, across from a school and homes, and is about a block away from the beach. I parked on the street about a block away from the restaurant since there were only about five spaces available right in front, all of which were taken when I arrived. My friend got lucky and managed to snag a spot just as someone was leaving. The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood diner vibe and is surprisingly large. There's a spacious dining room, and I also noticed a fairly big patio in the back. When we arrived, we waited about five minutes for a table, and then our server greeted us promptly. My friend ordered the biscuits and gravy, while I chose the breakfast tacos with chorizo, egg, and avocado. We also shared chocolate chip pancakes, and I enjoyed an Aperol spritz. The food was fresh, very tasty, and the portion sizes left us with plenty of leftovers. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a great breakfast spot! read more

Service was terrible. After waiting 30 minutes the hostess tried to skip my turn and was incredibly rude when I mentioned it. She never called my name stating, "I texted you*. We had a birthday coupon ( a dessert option ) from just being in the Hollywood beach cafe email list . We showed the email to our server and she asked if we would like it to be delivered after our meal. We ordered the tacos to share. When it arrived, it was three huge fish tacos, with beans and chips on the side. The beans was so good, the fish was fresh, crunchy on the outside, and moist and flaky inside. We loved it. Just the worst kinda place. Where you put your name on a list and all of the owners friends parties of 8 or more park and walk right in. They use an online wait system with poor cell reception and worse WiFi. The hostess is extremely rude and to be honest straight disrespectful when you bring up the wait. She loudly argues and told me the those are the owners friends so you can deal with it or wait. while showing us to our seat after an hour and a half in the sun with no shade she openly mocked my wife. We waited for nearly an hour and 15 minutes all the while the online queue said we were next and piles of the owner's friends just walks in with no reservation and no wait. Food is overpriced comes out cold and undercooked and loaded with cheap fillers. I had a salad that was 30% cucumber. To top it all off they have hidden fees and mandatory tips. Overall, the food isn't nearly good enough to have to sit through all that I say save some time money and digestive issues and just go to IHOP. It's a half mile down the road. read more

The one thing I did not like was my sister and I split the check on two credit cards, and we were each charged $1.00 for the transaction. Never have I been charged that by any restaurant. My family has been coming to this iconic local breakfast diner for decades. Previously Mrs. Olsen's, HBC is a cleaner, refreshed version with pretty much the same menu. The food is solid and the coffee is hot & fresh - everything you'd expect from a beachside breakfast diner. They have a full bar, great counter service and a lovely (and recently expanded) dog-friendly patio. The interior features fun local vintage beach and surfing photos and the servers are fast and friendly. Cozy little cafe with indoor and back patio seating. Parking is limited and we parked on the side of road by the dirt lot across from the cafe. This is also where Hollywood Beach is so parking may get tougher late morning/early afternoon. It's good for families and they allow dogs on the patio. We were sat down right away. They have a QR code to scan with your phone for the menu. I ordered an HBC croissant sandwich with hashbrowns and a Cafe Mocha. The food was on point. My croissant was heated through, crispy and flakey. It had an egg, avocado, bacon and arugula. So good! The coffee was extremely disappointing. It tasted like hot chocolate and there actually was a hot chocolate powder used because I tasted the gritty texture and when it got to the bottom there was about 1/2 a tbsp of the mixture clumped up there. Just stick to the regular coffee. They have a fancy coffee maker where you can hear them steam the milk but the coffees don't come out looking anything like the same fancy professional coffees on their menu. Also they charge a 2% transaction fee called a reserve fee labeled on the bill for using their online payment system. I have never seen a restaurant do that before. So bring cash unless you don't mind paying extra. I feel like they should have had this posted on your table or the wait staff tell you "hey there is a 2% fee if you pay electronically". read more

Have seen many times but finally decided I'm going to have a brunch today and visiting from the valley it's not every day you can try an Oxnard classic. Get there about 10:30 of course about 30 people waiting outside with no life just like me. I hope that's her name I asked but it was very loud she was fantastic as well as all of the servers just flying around the place and buzzing around customers refilling drinks taking away plates Etc needless to say they are jam-packed. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger it was massive. One of the biggest burgers I've ever eaten and was pretty good. It was a bit undercooked and pink in the center but I have to ask for a well done next time this was more like medium rare, don't care LOL. The fries do need a little work as they were fried in what seemed to be a quite re-used oil but I still gobbled them up because I was so damn hungry. There was a verde hot sauce on the table named Char man that was sensational and I'm hooked on it. If claustrophobia is in your DNA this place is tough to handle or else it's a fun place to try with a lot of menu items very diverse and huge portions to match the huge bellies.
