Chicken fried steak had a thick coating, bland, Gravy over the biscuits had a strange taste, maybe sage? Has browns overly salted. Big sigh. The food looked fabulous, but the taste just wasn't there. My family has been coming to this iconic local breakfast diner for decades. Previously Mrs. Olsen's, HBC is a cleaner, refreshed version with pretty much the same menu. The food is solid and the coffee is hot & fresh - everything you'd expect from a beachside breakfast diner. They have a full bar, great counter service and a lovely (and recently expanded) dog-friendly patio. The interior features fun local vintage beach and surfing photos and the servers are fast and friendly. If you go on a weekend any time later than 8:30a, be prepared to wait - but good news - they'll mix you a Bloody Mary or mimosa to make the wait painless. read more

Cozy little cafe with indoor and back patio seating. Parking is limited and we parked on the side of road by the dirt lot across from the cafe. This is also where Hollywood Beach is so parking may get tougher late morning/early afternoon. It's good for families and they allow dogs on the patio. We were sat down right away. They have a QR code to scan with your phone for the menu. I ordered an HBC croissant sandwich with hashbrowns and a Cafe Mocha. The food was on point. My croissant was heated through, crispy and flakey. It had an egg, avocado, bacon and arugula. So good! The coffee was extremely disappointing. It tasted like hot chocolate and there actually was a hot chocolate powder used because I tasted the gritty texture and when it got to the bottom there was about 1/2 a tbsp of the mixture clumped up there. Just stick to the regular coffee. They have a fancy coffee maker where you can hear them steam the milk but the coffees don't come out looking anything like the same fancy professional coffees on their menu. Also they charge a 2% transaction fee called a reserve fee labeled on the bill for using their online payment system. I have never seen a restaurant do that before. So bring cash unless you don't mind paying extra. I feel like they should have had this posted on your table or the wait staff tell you "hey there is a 2% fee if you pay electronically". read more

Have seen many times but finally decided I'm going to have a brunch today and visiting from the valley it's not every day you can try an Oxnard classic. Get there about 10:30 of course about 30 people waiting outside with no life just like me. My diet cheat day and I was determined to reward myself with a hamburger since I can't find one fucking Smashburger open in the morning in this city I have to settle for a regular burger. The hostess offered me a bar seat which I took right away instead of waiting like the herd, and I was very pleased with the service given by..tresha? I hope that's her name I asked but it was very loud she was fantastic as well as all of the servers just flying around the place and buzzing around customers refilling drinks taking away plates Etc needless to say they are jam-packed. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger it was massive. One of the biggest burgers I've ever eaten and was pretty good. It was a bit undercooked and pink in the center but I have to ask for a well done next time this was more like medium rare, don't care LOL. The fries do need a little work as they were fried in what seemed to be a quite re-used oil but I still gobbled them up because I was so damn hungry. There was a verde hot sauce on the table named Char man that was sensational and I'm hooked on it. If claustrophobia is in your DNA this place is tough to handle or else it's a fun place to try with a lot of menu items very diverse and huge portions to match the huge bellies. Will be back one day with friends and family thank you for the great service and fun Diner counter! 27 bucks got me out of there with unlimited drink tax and tip. And not the Scottie Pippen/ Kevin Garnett style tips but a healthy tip. read more

The place is bigger than I expected and we were seated towards the back of the cafe and I noticed pictures of dogs and realized it was a pet friendly cafe....cool. Our server came quickly and offered paper menus since the scan code was kinda slow due to the WiFi and internet doesn't load very quickly. So, I asked the waiter "what do you recommend?". She said the Bloody Mary and the Hollywood Mule with muddles strawberries were good. So, I tried the Mule. It was refreshing and good. As per her suggestion, since the portions are so large, my wife and I shared the Fish and Chips. The 805 Brewery battered fried Cod was perfectly cooked, crunchy outside and juicy center. The French fries were good but not as good as the fish. My daughter in law ordered the Fish Tacos which are made from the same fish in a tortilla filled with all kinds of fresh items including avocado. A lot of food as well. My son got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich which was huge! Very hard to eat by holding it in your hands! Now my son is legend for eating all of his dish and most if any other food left on others plates. However, on this day, he actually ended up taking half of his sandwich home for later! Rare indeed. So, being full....we did not get dessert but I saw they offer a Affagato. Hollywood Beach cafe is a cafe I always take my friends when they come here from Japan because great service, food and location (very close to the beach) All dishes are delicious! Today I ordered Farm Fresh Veggie Omelet, which was delicious. The interior is beachy. There is a counter table and it's comfortable to have breakfast and lunch by yourself. We started out at the gym this morning and then decided we were hungry for breakfast so we decided to try the Hollywood Beach Club, which is in a great location1 block from the beach. We are very glad we did. It's in the spot Mrs Olson used to be in. I'm not a big fan of Mrs Olsons, but that's a review for another time. We had a short wait for a table, which was fine, and once seated we were greeted by our waitress Summer who was delightful. I had the Denver omelette with hash browns and a side bagel with cream cheese, and my wife had the Pozole. Both dishes were amazing. Great food at a fair price in a very nice spot. We were pleasantly surprised how delicious the food that we ordered was so delicious!!!! My husband had chicken fried steak and he said it was delicious and I ordered the chili verde with potatoes tots and I was so surprised and delighted on everything was. They serve coke cola products in which I very happy with. Our waitress was very nice and took the time to make sure that everyone got what they wanted also we received any refills as needed. The restaurant is bigger than we think thought it was. It had such a cute beach theme with pictures of different beaches along with a wall with dogs on the beach and enjoying their selves, running and just having a blast. Finally came out to try this place--been hearing about it for a long while. I got here maybe 10 min after they opened and there were already 3 parties seated. The place is SMALL (maybe a dozen tables inside?) so I imagine it must get really crowded the later it gets. Parking is probably an issue too. Since it was my first time, I got something basic--Belgian waffle with a side of bacon and a coffee. Food came relatively fast and it was delicious! Bacon was good and crispy, waffle was fluffy with a slight crisp. Coffee was really good. The service was great too. Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the pricing. It was a bit spendy--after tip it was about $30. A little steep for a basic breakfast with no hoopla if you ask me. read more
