Like most comedy clubs, they serve the very basic bar food, like chicken fingers and fries, as well as overpriced drinks. I come here for the comedy, not the food, so don't come here thinking there's a James Beard award winner in that kitchen, because I'm sure there's nothing but a frustrated ex- or up-and-coming comedian with a microwave oven. Go for the comedy. Stay for the comedy. Eat elsewhere before the show. My wife and I went here to see three well known comedians among a cadre of comedians performing there tonight. Our Plan was to have dinner at home but our plans got away from us and we decided to eat somewhere before the show in the area. I really wish we had because at this very moment(2:17am) I am writing this from my bathroom. My first warning and red flag should have been the fact that it is a comedy club and not a restaurant. That's on me. Second red flag was the menu that my wife described in the car from her phone. Third red flag and the most telling one was that our food quite literally was placed in front of us mere moments...maybe 4 from the time our order was taken and before our drinks even got to the table. That quickly! And from someone such as myself who has spent a lifetime working in the food industry that can either mean they have honed and tweaked their mise(prep), dishes, prep time to a tight, streamlined, well-oiled machine of culinary output....or it can mean trouble. Which as I suspected and not surprisingly is the latter. Hence the review. The food was exactly what I thought it would be. The chicken sandwich which I assume at that speed is a pre-fried, previously frozen, dark, dry, crispy wafer, with dark green lettuce, pickles on an unremarkable bun sans sauce or condiment of any kind....was also unremarkable but slightly edible. The fries that accompanied it were...well...fries. Not bad not great. Good. My wife got the nachos with beef with a surprising number of pickled jalapeños and what appeared to me to be some sort of melted cheez-wiz sauce not unlike the one you might get at any movie theater. The meat was curious and interesting. Beef, not ground, not shredded...more chipped or chopped. There may have been a salsa or pico de gallo but not enough to notice or mention. That's about it. I had a couple of them and that was enough. I'm not sure which one is the culprit for my current predicament and the impetus for this review. Does it really matter? My recommendation? Achieve your TWO-ITEM minimum purchase with drinks and dine elsewhere. Or not. Totally up to you. It's literally a crap shoot if you do however. Pun most definitely intended. read more

Super fun place. Good music pre-show. A lot more small and intimate than I expected, which was actually pretty rad. The food wasn't bad and the drinks were decently strong. Food and drinks isn't the best but you can't go wrong with a beer. The nachos are good. Definitely a good time here. Some staff is more kind than others and on your order right away. One of the securities doesn't get enough action. So if you're waiting by the restroom and you move aside to let people walk by, he will push you back and tell you not to pass the line. They charged me the correct amount on the night I was there to see a show, then two days later they charged me an even greater amount! (It looked to be the original amount that I was correctly charged but with an extra 20%+ tip attached to it.) I have sent several emails and left them several voicemails since last week and they have not gotten back to me. I will have to sort it out with my bank. Dishonest and evasive and I will not go back. Check your credit card statements and make sure they are not doing this to others as well. read more

The food here is pretty amazing. The burger is excellent. If you are a burger person then get the burger. It's juicy and the meat just taste great. The Mac n cheese is another great option. The one thing from my experience the Improv needs to improve on is how crowded it gets when people are eating dinner, people are standing and waiting for the next show and when people are let out of a previous show but choose to hang inside still! The most amazing experience I've ever had at a comedy show!! I came for my birthday for monderays. Deray Davis was an amazing host! He was hilarious. All of the "armatures" were the bomb diggity. Let's just say I was laughing from start to finish. I highly HIGHLY recommend people coming to this show on mondays. You will not be disappointed. On this particular day we came we even had a very special guest.... drum roll please MIKE EPPS!!! It was the cherry on top to an already amazing hilarious evening. Monday's with deray are a must!! They also have some really good food and stiff drinks. The buffalo cauliflower was amazing as well the chicken wings. Just an amazing experience all around. read more

Very impressed with the food and this venue. This was my first time going to The Hollywood Improv. I went to see a friend initially, but got way more than expected. Ticket prices are extremely reasonable. I used to watch, Evening at the Improv when I was a kid growing up in BC, Canada. It was fun to be part of that Old Hollywood scene and glad it still going strong. Monday nights are being re-vamped and on a comeback! The show went from 730/8-10 ish, back to back comic lineup, and still able to get up in the morning!! I liked that the show had a 2 item minimum, instead of a 2 drink minimum. I was impressed with the Hell's Kitchen menu, lots of healthy options, vegan and gluten free options. Since I don't drink, I ordered The Roots Salad, wonderful and filling and I ordered the Portobello Sandwich with fries. I simply boxed half of my food for the next day, a trick I learned from a model friend. The fries were probably the best I have had, they almost didn't need ketchup. I arrived at 7pm on Monday night and got easy street parking for the last hour until the meters stop at 8pm. Otherwise it is 2 hr parking on Melrose Ave and I would have just parked in a lot, I guess, they do have valet parking, but Im not one to ever use it. The restaurant and Main room look small, but once you are seated, it is more cozy than cramped. The AC was nice during this heat wave!! read more

I've been here several times. As a "foodie" the food is GOOD! The Kale Cesar never disappoints. The tacos are good (chicken/pork). Wings were good too last time I was here. Now when u get dinner with the show you can go in for early seating and chill with your food and drink in the spot of your choice. Brilliant! Love the new changes! PS. Not only are there lineups as good as it gets anywhere, the staff make a you feel welcomed no matter how crazy busy it can be+ you add in bar none the best food at a club in LA. Never visited this improv location and it was incredible. It was small and intimate and it was perfect. Sure I had to make friends with the people that were sitting across from me because of how small it was but hey, who doesn't need more buddies? I came here to see Hollywood Babble-On with Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman doing a live recording of their podcast. I literally laughed from beginning to end. They were great, the venue was great, the service was great. I also ordered the bacon cheese fries, if I have any suggestion I'd satmy avoid the food and just stick to the drinks. Fries were not terrible, just not really that good. Can't wait to revisit this location and hopefully get the VIP dining experience, that is if they change their menu a little read more

Every time I come here for a dinner and show (sometimes it's one or the other) I am always impressed with the prompt, friendly service! Although the staff aren't professional comedians, they always make me laugh! The food is great and the drinks are top notch. I love this venue- it's LA finest comedy destination. The food is good for what it is, and the drinks aren't Sunset Blvd. prices. The main room is large but it feels small and intimate. There's an outdoor area to smoke and vape. They take your phone before the show, so watch out for that! This review is regarding the experience I had July 2nd, 2019 at the Main Room. I always get emails from Hollywood Improv to come check out their shows and sometimes I get a discount code for tickets that reduce the price to $5 for acts like Adam Corolla, Kate Quigley, Patton Oswalt (King of Queens), Tom Green (whom I've grown up on) and more. This was their lineup for a Tuesday and I thought why the hell not?!? I bought tickets online and had them sent electronically to my phone. Easy and convenient. As for their restaurant, I have eaten there and attest that they have pretty good bar food. They don't, however, apply to the required two item minimum once you are seated inside. They also have a policy in which they take your phone and put it in a locked fabric sleeve so as to enforce their policy of no photography or recording, which is cool with me and seems fair to avoid distractions and protect comics material from leaking for whatever reason. The show was absolutely amazing and hilarious! The reason I give this place 4 stars and not 5 is because they are not punctual. I understand that they need to clear out a show that's about to finish but when about 200 people are coming out, they push you to the sides and herd you with all the other people in the bar area outside of the Main Room and the wait can be slightly annoying and you can get crammed with drunkies that you really don't care to be around. Whatever, I get it. Minor setback, but I suggest they have a side exit door designated for the previous showgoers to avoid this. Also, the bartender, (some old fart) in the waiting room is a total dick. The Dodger game was on and I sat down at the bar stool and let him know I didn't need anything for now and he immediately gave me the stink eye. I get it though, there may be other patrons that want to drink and I'm getting in the way, not purchasing anything and most importantly not potentially giving him any tip. I understand. About 10 minutes later, dickface tells me in a rude manner that if I'm not going to purchase anything, I would have to step away from the bar. Again, understandable but you could be a little nicer about it. The shit stain obviously has no manners or sense of class but I didn't make a fuss about it. I immediately got off the stool and stood up and watched the baseball game. I know who he is. Back when I was drinking and buying women drinks, I would tip him 30-40% but that was in the past. I'm sure that's just his demeanor when he kicks me out of the bar area when I'm not ordering anything. All good, I get it. Another reason I give the Improv 4 stars is that once you are seated, it takes up to 45 minutes for them to get the show started. So, for a 9:30 show, don't expect it to start till about 10:40 or so. Since I don't drink, I order off their non-alcoholic menu, and the drinks are good! Sometimes, they don't even enforce the two item rule with me but I will tip them 40% as if I did order two drinks to show my appreciation, so that's nice of the waiters and waitresses. Also, I like how they warn and/or kick out the hecklers and those people too messed up to even sit in their seat straight. This one lady was so fucked up, I wanted to tell her to shut her drunk, annoying ass up because it was disrespectful and disruptive towards everyone else's experience and the comics themselves. Thankfully, Tom Green gave the sign and her and her dumbfounded husband were kicked out so kudos to the staff on that; just wished it didn't take the last act for her to piss off. She was doing all types of wierd shit the entire show and I was thinking "When are they going to kick this lady out?!?." Another reason why I quit drinking; if you can't handle your liquor then you've had too much and are being annoying and obnoxious. But for the most part, everyone in this sold out show were cool and could manage their manners. All in all, the Hollywood Improv has a special place in my heart and I will always be back. They always got awesome acts for a more than reasonable price. Also, if you are there early, there is plenty of street parking within walking distance. Long live the Improv! read more

HATE THE NEW DINING!!! HUGE FAIL!!!!! Please go back to the old way where you eat in the restaurant before the show. I hated eating in the showroom while trying to watch the show. I could not enjoy the show trying to eat and laugh at the same time. NOT A GOOD COMBO. I was not brought my food until after the show started. It is very distracting trying to eat and hearing everyone's silverware clacking on the plates. The tables are very small to begin with and I felt very cramped with everyone's food spread out on the tiny tables. I wanted to order more wine but I couldn't get my servers attention. I do not like trying to settle my bill while watching the show.  If you do not go back to the old dining in the restaurant, I will stop seeing shows there and stick with the Comedy Store instead. GO BACK TO DINING IN THE RESTAURANT BEFORE THE SHOW, NOT EATING DURING THE SHOW!!!! It was awful!!!!! read more

Pretty great, it's great that we are able to get closer "VIP" seating if we decide to eat here before our comedy show. I did that and stayed healthy to a good almond and grilled chicken salad. It was pretty good and light enough to satisfy my two item minimum they require once we go inside and I sat 2 seats away from the stage and saw a great lineup that included Dane Cook, new cast members of MadTV, and I was even in for a treat once one of the voices from Adventure time performed and "Rocketman" himself. This place is awesome! My husband and I are big comedy club fans and we try to support the comedians as well as the amazing service wherever we go. Hollywood Improv did not disappoint! From the first intro with staff outside to our dinner server i was blown away. But i must say, seeing Ken Jeong, front row seat made my week. Kitty our server (hope I didn't mess up your name) in the comedy room is the main reason I will return with family and friends. She was so attentive, even with a large group of people she was serving! She was honestly amazing and great at making recommendations. Went to see Hollywood Babble-On (which was hilarious) my review covers the service. Orders can easily get confused on a busier night. You should order your extra drink on your first order so it comes in time when you finish your first...or else you'll have to wait 10-15 minutes for your order to come in.
