I first tried Holy Basil by ordering their egg rolls for delivery on DoorDash and they were SO good that I had to place a pickup order just to see the restaurant in person. Turns out it's tucked inside a hidden little food hall in DTLA, with plenty of table seating. Such a cool, lowkey spot. I'm a big lover of egg rolls and lumpia, and when I tell you these egg rolls are next level... they're unique, insanely crispy, super flavorful, and LONG (like, laughably long lol). They're filled with pork and come with a delicious Mae Ploy sauce that complements them perfectly. Super tasty and officially my new favorite egg rolls right now. initially thought $10.50 for three was a bit pricey, but after seeing the size and tasting them, they're 100% worth it. I crave them anytime I'm in the area. I also love the packaging and overall aesthetic, and I'm definitely coming back to try more of the menu (Pad Thai is next). The employee who handed me my meal was polite and acknowledged me right away when I arrived to pick up. Highly recommend checking them out.

Heard so many things about this place from peers! So excited I ran into this Thai shop. I love the decor and the seating all the small details like their pink plates Love that you can see inside the kitchen especially when they making your food. Food came delivered to our table piping hot! I've never had drunken noodles before I like that they have two different types of noodles you can choose from. Definitely has a kick of spice I was sweating up! Really glad I got to try! gotta come back to eat the whole menu

This place has a fun vibe, very small but surprisingly echoey when you first get in there. We did not have reservations one bri arrived but we are lucky that it was only a 10 minute wait. I think we got some of the best spots in the place though, at the bar, so we can see where all the magic happens. However like I mentioned earlier it is so noisy in there! The venue is pretty small and because the room shape is relatively boxy with hard walls and with the kitchen up in the action makes for a relatively loud ambient noise space. I think the place has enough charm and various sounds going on to justify probably not having music, but I'm pretty sure there is something playing that was echoing in the place, but couldn't tell you what it was. Anyways enough on that. The food really does have a very eclectic approach, I think drawing together Thai in Mexican influence, at least based on my taste. The rice dish was a little bit plain but very fresh and well executed based on the ingredients contained within. The chicken dish was enjoyable it was a fried chicken as it's protein which had a subtle crunch yet perfectly cooked and delicate on the chew. The sauce was an unmistakable mole type sauce flavor And while good as a combination I thought it lacked a little bit of depth in the flavor. The wagyu steak dish had great flavors textures and overall good combination but boy does it kick you in the butt on the spice level. I would not order that last one again unless there's a way to adjust the spice level. We weren't asked about spice level so I'm not sure if that's something that typically comes up or if it's a common concern for guests. The last dish we had was the key lime pie which to me was the star of the show. It is homemade and I probably could eat two more slices of that in one sitting. I would definitely come back, but I would certainly choose different entree options to get a better feel for the restaurant. And I'll probably order that key lime pie again, so good!

I love a good eggroll, someone here said that these where their favorite. What kind of crack are you smoking? Hands down the sorries eggroll ive ever eaten. All you taste is the wrapping, and they are 10 dollars!! Truly criminal eggrolls to the point i felt compelled to make this review. The main dishes are decent but over priced for the portions.

Good Thai food in LA with moderate menu pricing. Located in a small food hall competing with a Pizza Hut and Broken Mouth (renowned Hawaiian fusion), it holds its own. The Pad Kee Mao was nothing crazy with a $4 up charge for 3 pieces of shrimp. The Green Curry and Grandmas Fish and Rice are what you should get from here. Service was friendly and attentive with everything we needed. I'd say it's worth a try if you're in the area and Broken Mouth is too long of a wait.

I'm glad I got to try Holy Basil! A little hard to find, as it was located in a food court-esk place in the fashion district (?) there were shops on shops selling suits for a great price on the same street. Had to order my go-to: pad see ew. Service was great, very friendly! They have a few tables designated for their restaurant but other seating around as well. The pad see ew was very good, just enough flavor of salty/sweet. They give you a good amount. I can say that out of all pad see ew I've tried, this one is most comparable to Hanuman Thai in OC (my favorite...). I chose pork loin in mine out of shrimp and tofu. It was flavorful and tender, I normally don't like pork that much but it blended nicely with the noodles. If it is in your interest to visit, please do! The quality of food and flavor definitely lives up to the hype :)

Unacceptable $26.40 for not even 1/2 a teaspoon depth of curry sauce. Called the restaurant back and the woman's response was " it's not soup. You can contact owner or go to our web site. " What's the point of curry when there isn't enough sauce to put on rice. ‍ The issue isn't the portion of shrimp. The issue was the lack of sauce to put on the rice. Picture shows the depth of sauce with a plastic soon.

My gf loves thai food and I recently found time to get an order in after work. We got the pad kee mao, gra pow eggplant, and chicken and rice. I waited about 30 minutes for my order to be ready even after ordering for a specific time pickup. The pad kee mao was my favorite of the 3. The noodles were chewy and springy and I loved the strong taste of the sauce they used. The generous amount of veggies and soft chicken meat was tasty too. I usually don't like eggplant, but the gra pow eggplant was delicious. I loved how soft and almost mushy the eggplant was along with a light eggplant taste. The addition of the mushier and crunchy skin pumpkin went well. I didn't expect there to be rice included since that was not mentioned on the menu. That was a big plus. The chicken and rice dish was also better than what I was expecting. I'm a big fan of hainan chicken rice and this was both similar but very different. The chicken was the same style and soft. The nice crunchiness of the bits of garlic and cucumber gave some refreshing taste of the stronger taste of ginger. The rice also had a garlic ginger taste to it too. Overall, I would put this spot as my favorite thai spot in DTLA area. The food was great and my gf also really liked it too. I will be ordering other things on the menu when I get a chance to try them out again.

Fantastic Thai spot with excellent service. Had the pad khee mao, calamari, green curry risotto, and chimichurri steak. Everything was delicious. Small venue so recommend a reservation. Would definitely come back again.

I used to order once a month AND dream of the pad see ew at this place. And now I feel like the brand has got a little too big for its birches. I think the food has been holding up a bit but its service continues to be really over the top stuck up that I'm uncomfortable when I try to bring my friends to try it. There's been too many incidents and I don't think it's worth submitting my friends/fam to this. And I think the last draw was ordering delivery for the famous pad see ew only to get this stringy version that we absolutely disliked. Ps- note I forget the green curry here is super delicious but more watery than most.

Today, I decided to go in person and order. I ordered 2 veggie fried rice and 1 pad Thai. I was charged $54 for those 3 orders. I knew the price was off but since I was treating a friend that came with me I didn't want to question the price in front of them. I even tipped an extra $2. I've ordered every 2-3 weeks recently and sometimes the same type of order via delivery and it isn't this much. It's always like $44...plus tip. I went home and put in the same order on Uber eats and lo and behold it came up to $44. I don't know why I was charged an extra $10. I think he assumed I wasn't a regular. Seems very dishonest. I'm very disappointed. Updated: with taxes it's supposed to be $48. As per Uber eats pickup.

4.5/5 I've ordered via Postmates twice. The second time was much better * Pad see ew with pork: perfectly sweet and savory, came with some pickled jalapeño slices on the side * Chicken wings: bogo free via Postmates. Each order is 1/2 lbs - this time it came with 4 larger wings vs previous time 6 tiny wings. Crunchy and juicy and perfect amount of dry seasoning. One complaint: there were still quite a few feathers on the wings (you can see in the photos) I wish the menu was bigger but I'll also be satisfied with reordering these 2 things every time

Well, looks like I made my way to Flavortown! It's not a diner, although we dined, it's not a drive in, although it's accessed via a huge garage door, and it's not a dive, although it is in a little food court off of an alleyway blocks from Skid Row. Whatever you want to call it, I call it exceptional. The depth of flavor, the freshness of ingredients, the quality of the preparation were magnificent. The stand out for me was the green curry, as it had the perfect amount of spice, herbs that burst through every bite, vegetables in peak ripeness, and big chunks of chicken right off the farm. The curry was the star, but the wings were the supporting actor, right there next to it. Unique sauce, refreshing slaw, they were so good!! Love the packaging, too. I like this part of town. read more

I ordered Tom yum soup with mild spice because I read reviews that medium spice was very spicy. I found the mild to be too mild. The shrimp was unfortunately over cooked and I wish there had been more chunks and leaves of spice in the soup, although it was packed with mushrooms. I also had a stomachache after this meal, which never happens to me. The addition of vermicelli noodles was good to absorb the broth but was not worth an additional $4. read more

I really really wanted to like Holy Basil. I pass by it all the time and have seen this restaurant on several best of lists. I decided to do take out via Uber Eats on Friday night. Close to closing time (but not too late). I ordered a couple of items (curry, eggrolls, basil beef and drunken noodles). Once I ordered, we got a call from the restaurant that said that they were out of eggrolls and if they could substitute for chicken wings. We said "sure, why not??" since we had contemplated chicken wings anyways (but Uber Eats was doing a buy 1, get 1 on eggrolls). She then proceeded to essentially tell us that she was going us a favor because of the price difference. I was super confused because they were the ones that were out of eggrolls and substituting. I hung up the call super confused and sort of turned off by the conversation. Once I got the food, low and behold, I got eggrolls. I am not sure why she made such a big deal and reverted back to giving us the eggrolls. SIGH! I tried to forget about it and enjoy my meal. Once thing about Holy Basil is the portions are VERY small (and more pricey). The following is what I tried; 1. Curry - I am not a huge fan of curry in general, but I had a taste it was decent. A little water for me, but decent. 2. Basil beef - I did not like the beef, I thought it was very dry. 3. Eggrolls - After all the convo about it, the eggrolls were just OK. 4. Drunken noodles - Probably my favorite dish of the dinner. A little bit spicier than I would like, but pretty good. For the price, I thought the food was underwhelming. I give the food 3 stars, but am knocking down a star for the price/portion ratio and the weird conversation with the person that called me. I think with other Thai food places around, I am definitely going to try another place for my Thai needs. read more

My favorite thai dish is Gra Pow Moo Krob aka spicy basil stir fry with crispy pork and let me tell you that this place does it RIGHT! The only thing I would change is the snap peas as I am used to long beans being used instead, but it'd definitely not a deal breaker. The spice levels can be a little crazy. The first time I ordered this, I got a regular and holy cow I was sweating! I went with mild the next time and it was perfect. I was going to give this place a 4, but then I ordered something else this past weekend and wow never mind, this place deserves a 5! It was the Thai Fry Fish and Rice. When I tell you this dish took me back to my childhood, I was so happy. And the fact that I got it delivered and the fish was still perfectly crispy... that is good food right there. This dish is limited so if it happens to be available, get it!!! I will continue to order from this place for sure! read more

The chicken wings were so flavorful without being at all spicy, until you ate one of the shishito peppers which had a slight kick. Both noodle dishes were delicious with large portions and a nice balance of ingredients. I hadn't had pad see ew like that in years. Very enjoyable. I've tried a few different things every time I've stopped by. While the food here is good, it's not my favorite Thai spot in downtown. Although the heat is definitely there (you can adjust heat spice levels, thank gosh), the dishes always seemed a little under-seasoned. Chicken Wings - A decent amount of sweet heat. I really like the papaya with it. I know this was sauced but I was hoping that the crunch was a bit more prominent. Perhaps this was a consequence of it being ordered to go. Gra Pow Moo Krob - Great all around, and probably my go-to if I'm ever back. The pork is tender and a few pieces are usually still crispy. It's all pretty well-balanced with the rice, string beans and fried egg. Pad See Ew - Tender pork and a great flavor-- that XO sauce and the prominent wok hei is a killer combo. You can't go wrong with this staple dish. read more

Prior to the start of my food tour in DTLA, Holy Basil was highly recommended by Infatuation and the Thrillest. I'm so glad I decided to try it out. 1) Mama's Egg rolls were sooo good! The sweet and spicy chili sauce that you dip it in just made it a whole lot better. I loved the tangy-iness of it. Just shear perfection. 2) Tom Yum was so delicious and was perfectly seasoned and very flavorful. I was surprised about the number of shrimp they gave - so generous! You can also taste the freshness of the shrimp, as if it was just plucked from the ocean. I got mine Regular spice level bc I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to handle the Holy Basil spice, but next time I'm back, I will try it even spicier. 3) Pad Ka Naah was amazing! This dish was Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly. Again, they were very generous with the amount of pork belly. The Chinese broccoli was so good and flavored with a nice sweet soy sauce garlic base. The pork belly was crispy yet juicy and helped balance out the sauce. Just phenomenal. The whole packaging was also just brilliant. Purple rice on a separate try with the broccoli and pork belly in a main container. Go try Holy Basil!! read more

Too expensive for what you get in both quality and quantity, my dish was not that great, and I expected more. There is no parking, the ambience isn't that great, and it's not a place that I'd go to again. My food was probably about two stars, my friends food was probably about four stars, so I gave this a three star review, which is generous, considering the portions aren't very big. read more

My foodie friend took me here and told me this is the most authentic thai food in LA. She did not lie to me! Food was amazing and the atmosphere makes me feel like I was literally eating on the street of Thailand. Food: We ordered the beef tartare which was so fresh and flavorful, the abalone was so chewy and well seasoned , the grilled shrimp was so fresh and pairs perfectly with the dipping sauce, the shrimp fried rice was my favorite!! OMG so good and flavorful! We also for the pad see eu that I forgot to take picture of which was amazing too! They substitute with vermicelli and it was delish! Also ordered this oyster dish which was so flavorful and pairs perfectly with some rice. The blue crab was so fresh and insane! And last but not least the curry crab ! I can literally eat three bowls of rice with this sauce and crab so was fresh too! Conclusion, I had been looking for the authentic Thai food in LA for the longest time and today I finally found it! Came here with my white friend and i think they might have different levels of spice depending on who you are. E both ordered medium spicy level and mine was nice and spicy and his was kind of bland. I got the pad kee mao with pork belly ($16). I was excited to try 'smoked noodles' but i couldn't discern any smokiness. The place is cute and feels a little like eating on the streets of Bangkok. Service was excellent; i appreciate that they brought us a bottle of super cold water for our table. Prices were a little on the higher side compared to most Thai town places and the portions a bit smaller. The pork belly on my pad kee mao was very tasty. My friend's pad see ew was a bit bland when i tried it after mine. read more

Incredible place for creative interpretations on Thai favorites! Mediocre food. Some interesting twists on traditional Thai dishes - one successful (Pad See Ew) - the rest were varying degrees of mediocre (including the Italian/Thai fusion), despite the clear use of high-quality ingredients. Prices seemed quite reasonable, almost shockingly so until one sees the size of the dishes, at which point, 2-3 dishes are required at minimum per person to leave satiated. Service was very good. Ambiance, nothing special- quite cramped, as given the hype surrounding this restaurant - queues begin to form just before they open - so if you don't have a reservation - prepare to wait. Regarding said reservations, if you make one (impossible via calling the restaurant itself as no human will ever pick up regardless of when you call, or respond to any emails) - even if you cancel more than 24 hours before your reservation time, you will be charged $10 per person on the original reservation. This, regardless of the fact that they have no problem filling every last table in the place (both locations) from open to close. The cancellation fee is nice icing on their already hyped and profitable cake. Finally, and regarding the hype, ultimately one walks away having patronized yet another restaurant whose social media image far exceeds what it serves on its plates, checking all the boxes that attract food influencers who understand more about maximizing content for engagement than what constitutes great food. In a sense, we get the restaurants we deserve - and far better Thai restaurants with far better owners are deserving of your money. read more

05/28/2021 There's parking behind the building or find a meter if you're lucky. So close to Santee Alley, great place to stop for a break. You have options with pizza and veggie place next door. I got half order eggplant salad. I should have asked for mild as my mouth was on fire. Lots of flavor besides the heat factor. I would have never found this place on my own. This place has a lot of vegan and vegetarian options but you can always add any protein to your order. I also ordered the pad Thai. There are community seating in front of these restaurants like a long counter. Now, I should have asked what the Wi-Fi password so I could hang out here to study. I want to come back and something else on the mild side of things. read more

Thai spice is no joke, I choked from a sip of the Tom Yum Goong (still love the soup though). I ordered all the dishes with the least amount of spice and it was still a tad bit too spicy for me. I came here because of a Yelp Elite event but also ordered the Pad Thai Goong, Tom Yum Goong and the Pad Kee Mao (my all time favorite thai noodle dish). I tried many different thai places but the flavors of their dishes are far different for my little taste buds, in a good way though. I love how they added pork belly for the pad thai and dried shrimp for one of the other dished. I'd definitely come back again! read more

Kind of let down to be honest. The shrimp pad Thai wasn't fresh. The shrimp smelled fishy and tasted old. The pad Thai wasn't anything you couldn't find anywhere else. If you want a basic pad Thai then this will be for you. I was hoping for something unique and special. read more

HOLY BASIL!! I'm not a spice kind of guy (unless you count my humor, huehuehue) but I know Holy Basil is famous for their spicy food - so I had to try it! Gra Pow Moo Krob (wok-fired crispy pork belly, holy basil, long bean, bird's eye chili, garlic over rice, and a farmers fried egg) and Pad Kee Mao or Drunken Noodles (crispy pork belly, wok-fired smoke flat noodle, egg, bird's eye chili, pepper, Thai basil, garlic, scallions, and XO sauce)! I was pouring buckets of sweat, my mouth was on fire, but for some reason - i could keep eating! How? Because it's THAT good! The colors are painted onto the inside of the bowl, the flavor palette was rich and playful, and the heat danced harmoniously with the aesthetic. It's my go to quick Thai food restaurant quality made fresh to order . Located in a food court in the santee court apartments .. my favorite is the chicken thighs.. I also love the yellow curry with vegetables I think it's overpriced for what I had in the bowl but it's delicious. Spring rolls are very tasty as well and always sold out. I've been hearing about this place for awhile now and finally have a chance to check it out. Being a Thai person from Thailand. I had high expectations and, let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is located inside a small food court under a building. There's a public parking lot nearby for $6 at a flat rate, almost unheard of in LA. Any restaurant with such a minimal menu means they specialize in those dishes. This is what we ordered! Steamed Wontons - wow! Last time I had a sauce tasting like this was 15 years ago. I miss it so much. I think it's called "chi-cho" in Thai. Visually, it looks like a basic wonton dish but this dish has a Thai flavor in it because of the sauce and fried garlic garnish. Gra Pow + Moo Krob (crispy pork) - There was no doubt why Holybasil was known for this dish. This is one of the best Gra Pow with Crispy Pork Belly I've ever had. The pork was perfectly cooked. The skin of the pork was crispy but easy for your palate. The meat was tender. The flavor was amazing. It started with sweet, then salty, and finished with spicy. It was rich but not overpowering. I really like the way the green bean was chopped. The perfect size for me. The perfect bite was when I had a little bit of pork and a little bit of vegetable and rice. Everything went so well together. I ordered mild and it was enjoyable heat. Be careful here, they got Thai spicy. I also really like the to-go box. Separating the rice from the Gra Pow shows attention to detail. Pad Kee Mao Noodles + grounded beef - Do not underestimate the way it looks. The accuracy of the authenticity of the flavor of the Pad Kee Mao noodles here is 4/5. It was hot. It was aromatic. It was very good. It was rich in flavor like how Thai food should be! Again, mild was a good level of heat for me. I really like this place and I would like to come back here again. But if I had to complain about something, I would say. Came here 5mins before 4pm and I saw they're start closing up. So I saw their time hours they're close between 4-5pm, I think that's the time they take their break. Watch out Thai Town, there's a new competitor in DTLA! A friend recommended this place and Thai food is am favorite cuisine, so I HAD to give this place a try after seeing their IG photos! All the dishes came with AMAZING flavors. Tom Saab 5/5: This is my first time having Tom Saab. I'm a huge fan of Thai soups because of the aroma you get from the classic Thai ingredients such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, chilies for that spice and shallots. This soup had all those ingredients. It was a bit on the thicker side compared to the other Thai soups like Tom Yum and Tom Kha because it was rich from the fatty pork pieces in the soup. Pad Thai Goong 5/5 - the best pad thai I've had in awhile! Thai Town has a competitor now. I noticed the pad thai was extremely flavorful, probably from the teensy dried shrimps added, which is not something one often sees in a pad thai. The jumbo shrimp was juicy, meaty, and complemented the shrimp flavor of the pad thai. The pad thai had a bit of tang and sweetness from the tamarind flavor. Everything about this dish was excellent! Pad Kee Mao 4/5 - The pad kee mao was decent. The noodles didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting. Even the noodles looked more pale, so it didn't seem like it was seasoned enough. I was hoping to taste and smell the fish sauce from this dish, but it wasn't as prominent as the flavor in the pad thai. 5/5 WILL BE BACK! The food was EXCELLENT! Holy Basil is located on Los Angeles and 7th. We used their curbside option so our meal was brought out to our car! The packaging has two levels and separates your crispy/crunchy items from steaming and getting soft because of the noodles/rice below. Very smart and really helps when your meals are takeout and have to survive the drive home. We got the chicken wings, crispy pork belly with rice, and pad thai with shrimp! Chicken wings were okay - I expected them to have more fish sauce flavor. They were very crispy and the sauce that they come with was like a sweet/tangy sauce. Delicious! But I'm not sure I would order them again. If you're thinking about it, I recommend trying them once! Gra Pow Moo Krob (Crispy Pork Belly w/Rice) - my bf loved this!!! The pork belly was AMAZING and he absolutely would get this again. It came with purple rice and veggies + a fried egg! The portion size is big so you will 100% be full! Pad Thai Goong (Pad Thai w/Shrimp) - I loved this! It comes with huge succulent shrimps and the spice level was perfect. The portion size is massive so I have leftovers for sure! With the noodles are whole mini shrimps which add crunch, texture, and a punch of flavor! I will get this again. My only critique was that the lime was not enough for the massive amount of noodles. They've earned every bit of this 5 from me based on two dishes, service, and cleanliness! I ordered that pad see ew for my husband and the Tom yum goong for myself. My husband gave it a 4/5 but that's because he neeeeeever gives anything a 5/5. I know it was delicious because he randomly mentioned how great it was TWICE the next day. He said it's the best pad see ew he's had in L.A. My Tom yum goong was incredible, flavorful, and a delight to look at. I loved the way the tomatoes popped in my mouth. I'm a Thai food snob for sure but was very pleased with the pad Thai. There was a lot of flavor and the perfect amount of spice. I will be back to try other menu items. Cute little hidden gem in DTLA. There are a few other little restaurants in the same building. Sit outside the order window (general seating). The guy at the window was nice and knowledgeable. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers. Incentive from the website: join the rewards plan - 300 points for 30% off the bill and 100 points for a free dessert! I'm aiming for the free dessert!!

Eventually, we discovered a lot behind the building offering 8-hour parking for $10, which we opted for due to the lack of alternatives. Our original plan was to dine at Broken Mouth, but while waiting for our order, we were enticed to try this place instead, having heard positive reviews. We chose the Moo Krob (roasted pork belly) and were thoroughly impressed. Opting for the pork belly allowed us to enjoy a light snack, complementing our order from Broken Mouth. Given the outstanding quality of the pork belly, I'm eager to try their Tom Yum on my next visit. I have complete faith in their ability to deliver. The Holy Sauce that accompanied the pork belly was exceptional, and the crispiness was spot-on. I'm looking forward to returning! - 1 star Extremely disappointing experience I ordered food through Uber Eats, and this was honestly one of the worst delivery experiences I've ever had. The packaging arrived completely soaked and falling apart -- the container was crushed, everything leaked out, and the food was absolutely inedible. I couldn't eat any of it. It's clear that no care was taken in packing the food properly. It was a total waste of money, and I was left hungry and frustrated. I had to go through Uber Eats support to report the issue -- no response from the restaurant itself. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Covid is a tough time for so many businesses, especially restaurants. The folks here did not let that deter them from their passion, beautiful food expressive of its mother origin Thailand. They pride themselves in the quality of product and in the truth of tradition. Their ethos is reflective of commitment to their cuisine and in also feeding their community in these discourging times. I was craving, as i described to my boyfriend, "a meal that's an exploding bomb of flavors." After looking at their photos + description, i said, bingo. I ordered their pad Thai, the wings, a side of their green beans and the Gra Pow Moo Krob bowl. WOW. started off the wings, which are SPICY but in an incredible, am i crying with joy, kind of way. Pad Thai is excellent -- not too sweet. My boyfriend said, in between bites that he begrudgingly shared, that the Gra Pow Moo Krob was "the bowl of the year." Run, don't walk, to this place. Holy Basil in downtown LA was a major letdown. The portions were ridiculously small and overpriced - I got only three shrimp! Seriously, WTF? The food wasn't fresh either. The waitress was incredibly slow and detached. We waited forever, and she never bothered to inform us that our order was ready; she just walked past us, leaving us to guess. What a way to make guests feel unwelcome. They really need to step up their game. If more people complain, Holy Basil might lose its "it" status. To top it off, we never even got water. They just had their opening in Santee Alley! So excited!! All of their dishes are made with love and you can tell with fresh ingredients. The best street Thai food I've had, hands down. The owners are awesome! Gotta try it! read more

This place is truly excellent. First visit was quick - just picked up the pad kee mao with holy spice which was outstanding. The pork belly was great, the noodles were just right, and the spice level was just perfect. read more

The best thai food in LA. Tastes like Bangkok in your mouth. I tried a few of their dishes and all were fresh and delicious. Each dish was thoughtful designed and the staff are very friendly. 5/5 experience. read more

We went to this place for lunch . We tried the tiger shrimp noodles. It was delicious! The noodles were cooked perfectly, firm and chewy, not greasy. The shrimp were huge and flavorful. Great dish. read more
