I enjoyed the atmosphere, the ability to study and take my time. It's a place of comfort to stay indoors or sit on the outdoor patio. I really enjoyed it here. What a cute gem and great location! Stopped by for a Spanish latte (oat milk with some cinnamon), tamale and muffin. Thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish latte. The tamale and muffin were reasonable. Employing previously incarcerated youth is a beautiful opportunity for growth for these young people, and I cannot help but be moved by them every time. Their service is honorable and they care about their daily visitors. Definitely patient with some intense visitors who come through, also. I've ordered lattes and coffee and snacks from Holy Grounds. amazingly, I received a near immediate response from the new manager at the cafe. He extended his apologies and offered a gift certificate, which I think is very upstanding and considerate. they mentioned they're trying to revamp the cafe's image. He also told me they now feature Urth pastries & coffee (as previously stated by other reviewer). I'll certainly be back to visit. I completely stand by my earlier claim they have the best local selection of religious (Catholic, it's affiliated with the St. Monica's) jewelry I've come across. Despite my past experiences, I'm going to continue to give this place a chance. The reality is, St. Monica's does a tremendous amount of good in the community and has programs that really benefit the local homeless population (side note- LA has the highest population of homeless in the nation). If even a fraction of my purchases go toward providing some assistance, I think it's worth it, especially considering the motivated new management that has taken over. G.G. I have faith in you! One of my favorite cafes in Santa Monica. It's affiliated with the church and has a small bookstore inside. The staff are always friendly, the wifi is good, and seating in comfortable. It's never too crowded as it's not really your standard cafe given the church context. In the morning they get fresh pastries from Urth Cafe which are always tasty. read more

The coffee and tea are from Urth... so it's basically like going there except you get to support the local church. And you don't have to wait in that crazy long line. Came here to study while in Santa Monica and it did not disappoint! I originally knew about Holy Grounds because I had visited the original location in Alhambra multiple times. This location is definitely different from the original but the coffee was still great and I was happy for all the table space. Parking was also pretty easy to find, which was surprising for Santa Monica. Overall, I would recommend as a good meeting or work spot without the frills and decor other coffee shops may have. read more

I was attending a funeral service at Saint Monica's and we were early and needed some caffeine and whaaat they have their own cafe and it's aptly called "holy grounds"- yaaas. I had to of course have the Ava Maria iced tea which had a hint of lychee and was so refreshing and the H just a their regular cup of coffee which is apparently strong based on the amount of half and half to make it right - more catholic guilt? Haha it's opened daily and even when the church and other church services are not. I'm digging this cafe. Friendly customer service. Super clean restroom. Quiet environment with soft pleasant piano music playing. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor has high tables as well as two comfy arm chairs to relax. Outdoor has two large round tables if you would like some sunshine. It is a perfect spot if you need to work and/or study and even catch up with a friend. Personally I'm enjoying it today because the church nearby is enlivening my spirits and settling my emotions which is very much needed in order to continue working! Highly recommend checking it out. While the coffee is definitely good, the strawberry banana smoothie I had was one of the best that I have ever tasted. The second time I went, I had a hot ham & cheese croissant; ALSO fantastic.
