Some of the greatest gems are often tucked away and hidden, including this dessert spot. It's located in an alley way near barrys! Ive grown up eating the asian version of Portuguese tarts, and I was intrigued to find this store. The crust is thinner and flakier and the filling is richer and more runny. The cinnamon is a nice touch to cut through the sweetness and balance the flavors! Can opt to have them add it at pick up or grab a mini container to go. They have rotating weekly favors and happened to miss the pistachio. I will definitely be back to try it.

These were sooooo divine!! The storefront is kind of difficult to find, but follow the smell and you'll see a little shop with amazing pastel de nata. They'll ask if you would like a sprinkle of cinnamon, say yes!! The crust is so crispy and flakey, and the custard is slightly runny and smooth. Stop by for a sweet treat!

I have not made it to this place but have done a take out - when you visit Lisbon and get these yummy pieces of heaven - OMG! I am so delighted to say, that this piece of heaven is now available to you in SF as well! Don't take my word for it - please try it yourself- I promise you, you won't regret it. They are best eaten fresh and in person

Visited Holy Nata on a Thursday around 9:30 am - it's in an unassuming alley so if you're feeling lost you're probably in the right place! There was no line, and I had time to browse the menu and check out the special flavors (which rotate weekly). I ended up ordering 1x of the specials (pistachio, Nutella, dulce de leche) as well as an original egg tart. Staff ask if you want cinnamon on the original pastel de nata and it's a great addition. My favorites were the original and dulce de leche. The other flavors were also delicious, but a little overwhelming in sweetness. The puff pastry is a satisfying flaky texture and the custard is perfectly sweet. I would've liked the tarts to be a little warmer, mine were lukewarm - but they do appear to be made fresh daily. Bakers can be seen prepping pastries through the original storefront few feet down. Instructions on reheating egg tarts are available throughout the cafe if you need to take your tarts to enjoy later as well. Overall very happy with my experience and can't wait to come back for more pastéis de nata!

    So warm and yummy!!!

Holy Nata is all about yummy Portuguese egg tarts, including rotating weekly flavors like pistachio and peanut butter. This bakery is tucked away in an alley, so it was find hard to find at first. Their tarts were served fresh out of the oven and still warm. The crust is flaky good and crisp while the filling is creamy and not overly sweet. The light dusting of cinnamon on top was a nice touch too. I haven't been to Portugal, so I can't speak about whether they compare to the real deal. Personally, I like how they're less oily and not sickly sweet. The staff was friendly and service was quick and easy. There's limited seating, so I see this more of a grab and go spot. Seriously though, these tarts are so good! This is a treat where it's hard to stop at just one. Definitely get more than one!

Amazingly creamy, sweet, buttery and flakey crust, with a pop of cinnamon! The alternative flavors are adventurous and really good

Solid Portuguese egg tarts. Good taste, very helpful service. A nice treat to bring home. Coworkers like it so much they went back after I shared mine with them.

HOLY INDEED.... DEAR MF LORD the insane deliciousness and perfection that I just ate, you have to come visit for yourself. Never have I ever across the bay and New York City had any pasteis de nata like this. The most gooey soft interior and crunchy flaky perfect just AMAZING exterior. While I got intrigued into trying all flavors I liked the traditional best. Just classic. Nothing compares. I've never been to Lisbon but even if I do go this place is the benchmark now.

Was very excited to try this place as Pasteis de Belem from Lisbon are absolutely delicious. The pasteis de nata were solid, but not leaps better than frozen from trader Joe's (seasonal!) or costco pasteis de nata (but I didn't want 12!!!) They do reheat well and are very rich (oily). I'm glad I tried them but wouldn't travel out the way for them.

Still amazing tarts! They didn't have Nutella and dulce de leche when I stopped by after work on Thursday. You can preorder online too. Flaky, custardy, and dense but soft at the same time. May be tough to just have one. I love the traditional flavor, but the pistachio was pretty good as well! I feel like the pistachio does slightly overpower the custard a bit, but definitely get it if you enjoy pistachio.

Must try, delicious egg custard tarts. I heard about Holy Nata from a coworker, but I didn't think to try them until much later. I probably thought that they wouldn't be good enough to be worth a trip. But I was wrong. One day, my wife mentioned that she wanted to try some tarts, so I ordered a box to pick up after work. I got slightly confused finding the shop, which is in a little alleyway. The pickup was seamless otherwise. When we took our first bites of the tarts we were surprised by the full flavor. The Nutella came through without overwhelming the pastry. And the egg flavor was more sweet than eggy. Everthing was flaky and soft. The packaging also had clear instructions on how to enjoy them later. I'm looking forward to the next time my wife gets a craving for tarts.

Holy smokes, these are good! Located in an alley in the Financial District, Holy Nata is a small shop that sells Portuguese egg tarts. Besides the traditional, there's a weekly rotation of special flavors. I was looking forward to trying Pistachio, but only Nutella, Peanut Butter, & Dolce de Leche were available when we visited. I ordered an assorted box of six to take home ($21) plus one traditional flavor to enjoy for myself there in the concrete jungle. A flaky, multi-layered pastry shell cradled a liquidy custard texture that oozed with each bite. I actually preferred when the tart had had a chance to cool down; the creamy egg mixture firmed up into the perfect consistency to sink your teeth into. The lovely cashier offered a sprinkle of cinnamon; I declined as I wanted to taste them au naturel, but apparently the spice enhances the taste.

    Are the pasteis gluten free?

    No I don't think so 😏

How much is a single piece? What is the price for multiple pieces like half dozen, dozen, etc?

    I get a pack of six for $15. Four is $10. They're $3.50 for a single piece.

Can I order ahead of time for delivery via DoorDash or Uber eats?

Don't believe so, in person only

Are these pastels traditional ... made is a really rich butter pie crust or are the made with phyllo?

They appear to be made of pie crust.

Shelf life on pastries? Are they reheat able?

Not sure of the shelf life but I did keep them for a few days in the fridge then reheated them in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes so they wouldn't get soggy in the microwave!

My wait was about 40 minutes, which felt pretty reasonable for a popular menu drop. I tried the Madame Lorraine, Bourbon Peaches & Cream Twice Baked Croissant, Pistachio Cardamom Sugar Croissant, Strawberry Vanilla Bean Bun, Smoked BBQ Brisket Croissant, and Mocha Graham Butterscotch Cruffin. My favorites were definitely the Madame Lorraine and the coffee graham cruffin. The Madame Lorraine was rich, savory, and packed with flavor, while the cruffin had the perfect balance of coffee, butterscotch, and creamy filling without being overly sweet. What stood out most to me was how organized everything was. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and there was even a line coordinator walking through the line letting everyone know which items were still available. It made the wait feel much smoother and helped people decide what to order before reaching the front. The bakery itself has such a cozy vibe, and I loved browsing all the cute merch while waiting. I almost bought the croissant hair clip and honestly might cave next time. Between the creative pastries, friendly staff, and thoughtful customer experience, Butter & Crumble continues to live up to the hype. I'll definitely be back for future menu releases.

The preorder box came with randomized drops of what's in season that week, our small box came with Herby Olive Twist, Coffee Caramel Pain Au Chocolat, Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin, Lamb Pain Suisse. The pastries: they really got their lamination down. The pastry shell is amazingly crispy and really good layers regardless of the type of toppings or fillings it has. The flavor combinations were fun and familiar. It's like getting some of your favorite foods being converted into a croissant. Of the ones we tried I really enjoyed the salty ones like the olive twist and lamb, I was impressed how well the pastry kept crispy even with the sauces. The sweet ones like the caramel were too sweet for me to even finish, but that can be personal preference. After trying all these fun flavors I still think the highlight is def the pastry, will need to try the original croissant next time! Ambiance: the vibe of the bakery was great, lots of hard working ladies and feels like they are passionate about what they do. Bright and airy with lots of pink accents. Would definitely come back again, but probably would not wait over a hour for it because we do have a lot of great bakeries in SF.
