Great service with amazing brisket that doesn't break the bank. The mixed platter is enough for three modest meals especially if you added a couple more sides. Make sure you ask for the fatty brisket and enjoy the fragrant fatty layer. Even the lean part of it is also tender and nice. The pork belly is also tender, with chewy skin. They are not the crispy skin kind. Make sure you ask for the center part (not tips/ends), because that part is a bit tough. The ribs on my visit was slightly burnt, still nice, but a bit lean and the burnt kinda took away the joy a tiny bit. The place is a tent on 99c parking lot, so it's not a place to sit and eat. Def big enough to share between two hungry people. The owner gave me a sample of the chicken burrito. I don't think I ever had a chicken burrito taste this good. It was smoky and juicy! I usually tend to order chorizo breakfast burritos or stick to bacon but their game changing smoker opened my eyes. I do not approve of this. I can no longer support a food place that allows insects near food or where people eat from. As soon as that insect touched plates, plates should've been thrown in the trash and insect not allowed any second later near food. Instead owner thought it was good idea to allow it to stay. I really hate leaving this review because I have been there many times and what if I had been there 20 minutes after that incident happened, that could've been my plate. Just because you're a pop-up does not mean you shouldn't follow basic clean principles. Also did not appreciate owner grabbing trash and then touching meat right after. I think this is the best BBQ I've had in LA! I've been here 3 times and it is always good. Jose and his wife are friendly and Jose always offers us samples before we buy. The stand outs for me are the brisket tacos, chicken, and tri tip. The brisket is melt in your mouth and goes well with the salsa and the thick tortillas. Their bbq chicken is surprisingly so good and tender, especially since I don't usually go for chicken. The tri tip is so very tender and a nice leaner meat that doesn't feel as heavy. Hospitality from a street vendor. Stop by, support! I was in the area and the name blew me away when I read it lol so I had to come check it out. Portions are great. Plenty of food. My pate was $18. Two ribs, two piece chicken, coke slaw and potato salad. Mixed veggies on the side and tortillas. I'd rather quality over quantity. Here's what I mean: yea it was a lot of food. But when it comes to bbq, I like it drenched in sauce and Smokey flavor. This didn't have it. Sides were decent. Basic potato salad and fresh cole slaw. I can do without the veggies and tortillas tho. On bbq? Why lol it had more of a Mexican cook out taste than a southern or American back yard bbq taste. Still good, but not what I was expecting. If the aroma doesn't bring you in, the line definitely would. This is no ordinary roadside pop-up barbecue. The husband and wife team here really do it right! I wanted to do a full-blown recorded interview with them, but they were just too busy. I'll have to come back another day, before the rush sets in. On this trip, I opted for the $50 mix box. Easily feeds four people, and maybe a few leftovers as well. They ran out of chicken, so he was nice enough to throw in some of the extra stuff like tri-tip, and ham. Absolutely delicious! The barbecue flavor is literally smoked into the meat. Nice bark on the tri-tip and the ribs. Very flavorful, good spice mix. It's what a barbecue should taste like. Not overpowering with any one single spice. I would describe it as a sweet Mesquite kind of a flavor, not overpowered by cumin at all. It's quite a nice flavorful explosion in your mouth of tangy, sweet, umami, savory, smokey, and just the right taste of what a barbecue should taste like. Their regular barbecue sauce seems to be a mix of sweet baby ray's, and a little proprietary blend of something or other. It's a little more runny. This is perfect, since the meat just sops it up. I loved the barbecue baked beans! You do get two sides with the $50 box. I was going to get the rice, But since they give you a nice stack of 6-in corn tortillas, I wanted to try to mix it up a little bit. The mac and cheese looked very tasty, but they were running low, and I didn't want to clean them out. The line was so long, I figured someone else should get the same Joy I did the first time I came here. The photos I posted don't do this place justice. You'll have to come down and see for yourself. Tons of parking in the 99 Cent Store parking lot. Oh, side note, on Thursdays they are located behind the big five. And they're closed on Tuesdays and sundays. This is a favorite spot of mine, and I will be back. My plumber of all people told me about this place initially. Bless him and also bless the husband and wife team that runs this barbecue spot. It's pick up only so I take it home and if I get a sampler plate - I can enjoy it during a few days span. If taste good and the spices/rub are tasty.
