Doesn't look like much when you walk past it but you can smell the grill from outside! The owner is nice and personable! Parking was nice as there is a new lot across the street, walked over with my daughter and we had a nice mommy daughter lunch! I got the Southwest Dog and it was 'Spot On!' Delicious and my 8 year old stuck to her normal hotdog with mustard and pickles! You will not be disappointed! Oh! And note they only take cash but the hot dogs are under $7! At least ours were! One word- WOW! So glad it's right by our primary agenda (Equilibrium brewery). Such a tiny place but cozy and intimate Service is attentive but not overbearing. The two guys behind the counter/fry area were extremely nice and friendly. Food is creative and definitely solid. Glad we tried the girlfriend, it's truly amazing. Holydog = holy cow = holy good! This place is a hidden gem in Middletown. Their menu is super creative. I ordered two hot dogs for me and my boyfriend. You can choose a hot dog that's created by them or create your own on the spot! The only bad side about this place is that they close too early! I would definitely come here every night if they had late night. I had the Chilean dog without mustard because I'm not a mustard person, but the hotdog itself was ON POINT! It was definitely messy to eat, but you know it's good when you have get down and dirty for it. Happened upon this place while in Middletown shopping at a local Asian Market. What a gem! The owner/manager accommodated our allergy needs beautifully, even wiped down a grill and re-coated with butter instead of soybean oil to grill my husband's and son's food. I found this place yesterday after taking care of some business in Middletown. I was hungry and had a long trip back down to NYC so I decided to grab a hot dog and head on my way. When I walked in I quickly realized it wasn't a simple hot dog joint. The menu might be simple, but the hot dogs, ingredients and flavors are delicious and complex. What makes the experience even better is that it has a little "hole in the wall" vibe, with cool music and a funny and personable chef/owner who completes the experience. I've been coming up to Middletown every few weeks to visit Equilibrium Brewery. A lot of Equilibrium's regulars speak very highly of Holydog. I was surprised to see that Holydog had an aggregate rating of 5 stars with over 100 reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I grabbed my cans from Equilibrium, and decided to walk down the block to Holydog. The line was pretty long and almost out the door when I got there, but that's a pretty good sign. While I was standing in a line, I noticed a LOT of people were ordering the Girlfriend Treatment. A lot of other reviews on yelp had recommended this. I almost ordered one for myself, but I decided ahead of time that I wanted a Southwestern Dog and a Chilean Dog and I stuck to my guns. The place smelled great. The dogs were great. Chino was great. Although as a cook, yelp bugs me, I had to review this place. I cant say enough good things. Not only was my sausage and peppers sandwich awesome, but the best part is when I told chino that I cook for a living, he made me a burger on the house, as long as i eat it there and tell him what I think. it was topped with bacon, onion, hot peppers, pickle, and chipotle mayo on a delicious bun. I spent many years working at a pub and grill that had "Hudson Valley's best burger," among other burger joints, and this burger is on par, if not better than anything I've cooked and served. the patty was seasoned perfectly and everything went together perfectly. I was never a hot dog person. Sure, I'd have one at a BBQ once in a while, but otherwise the words "hot dog" evoked memories of street vendors peddling them from street corner carts. No thanks. The hubs and I decided to stop last Saturday, and - oh man - it was an experience. I'm not too sure - I scarfed it down. Cheese, peppers, chorizo..and yet, the dog didn't feel heavy or greasy. DAMN! How good can a hot dog joint get? The answer is here, my friends. Came here after checking out the brewery down the street, looking for a quick bite, and man did I strike gold. I got the girlfriend treatment with a spicy italian sausage - OUT OF THIS WORLD. That guy at the grill must be working some sort of magic, because I've never had such an amazing amount of flavor in a bun. A few of my friends suggested I try the sliders too, so I asked the guy behind the grill what was on them. He said "it's a secret", so I just went all in and trusted him. So glad I did, the slider was amazing too - although I hear they only make them on Saturdays and perhaps Wednesdays too.
