Grilled Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich Mac and Cheese Pasta
    Emma S.

Our server was kind and attentive. The hot honey chicken sandwich was AMAZING. The Mac and cheese was flavorless, not even an abundance of s&p could save the blandness of the sauce. Apple salad was good but I wished the apples and Brie had been sliced more to make mixing and bite distribution better.

I hadn't been to homegrown in over 10 years so decided to try it again for a dinner with my sister. Went around 6 pm on a Saturday and it was not busy at all. We both ordered a beer which you can the QR code on the menu for (very cool to see new/seasonal brews) and our choice of the Mmm...OSA was very good! For an app we got the crabby fries and they came in a flower pot! Also so delicious and perfectly spiced. For dinner I got the Greek salad with falafel and my sister had the Peruvian chicken. Both were very nice sized portions and flavorful. I probably would skip the falafel though, I like mine to have a bit more spices. They had a blacked chicken option that sounded promising. It seems they also do happy hour so if you're in the area and want good brews and food this would be a solid choice.

Whenever I am in the area I always stop here to get a dinner. They have so many good options. I have gone too many of the restaurants in the area, but Home Grown is always consistent compared to others. The burgers are fantastic.

Home Grown Cafe on Main Street, Newark, DE, is exactly what its name states - a locally owned and operated college town foodery and drinkery dedicated to providing quality and fresh approaches to restauranting for the people surrounding the University of Delaware. My son, a senior at the school majoring in engineering, chose to go there when I stopped to see him on a return trip from Virginia to Bucks County. While it wasn't overly crowded when we walked in around 5, it was very much so by the time we left 90 minutes later. We sat in a booth in view of the bar, and were served well by the competent attractive server. My son ordered the Cheesesteak Banh Mi with Sweet Potato Fries, while I was enticed by Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer and Beet Salad. Everything was very good to excellent, with special mention to the Vietnamese sammy and beet salad. While I love Brussels, I found this iteration to be strong on the expected bitterness, but lacking a little sweetness via vinegar or dried fruit to offset the dominant flavor. Leftovers were bagged for later consumption by the young lad. Given the majority of less than sterling food options in Newark, Home Grown Cafe is a welcome high point for this university community. Just a shame I only made it here in my son's final year at UDel.

This was a favorite of mine when I went to school at UD so when I had a wedding to go to in Newark I knew I had to stop by. The Buffalo Cauliflower wings are so so good and such a great healthier alternative to traditional wings. It is also a very large portion so even though it is a bit pricey, it is certainly worth it for how much food you get. I also had the Cesar salad which was great as well! Service was quick and very nice so an overall great experience!

Are there heaters in the outdoor space?

Hi Courtney, we do have infrared heaters. They do warm the space, but don't create the same heat as being indoors on a really really cold winter day. On an average winter day, it is comfortable.

What is the vegan egg made from? :)

Hello! It is a combination of tofu, chickpea flour, nutritional yeast, vegetable stock, and spices. We hope you like it! -Sasha Aber, Owner.

Salmon was very good, it was vodka cured; bloodline and skin removed (+++)! Grain was pretty busy for mid-afternoon on a Sunday. Modern pub/ sports pub feel. Phillies game on the TVs. Music playing. Service was OK. My one pet peeve is allowing servers to leave dirty dishes and empty glasses on the table. And our server, although attentive, did not clear any dishes or glasses. Also, if you've read my prior reviews, you know I always want my water glass filled and the waiter made sure that was the case. It's a small detail that added to the overall comfort of the meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, creating a relaxed setting for dinner. The food was well-prepared and flavorful. The veal meatballs were tender, the olive oil and sun-dried tomato dip for the bread was unique and yummy, and the mushroom agnolotti stood out as especially delicious. In fact, I can't wait to go back and have it again. Also, since it was Valentines weekend they added a cute little lips design on top of my drink. Another memorable touch was the mini firework placed on the butterscotch custard to celebrate my birthday. It added a bit of fun to the end of the meal and made the occasion feel special. My partner had the cannoli for dessert and it was definitely enough for two! Overall, Taverna delivered a very enjoyable dining experience, and I would be happy to return.

They sell a lot of their own merch so that's what you first see when you walk in. They have a bar area as well. The dining area towards the back is very spacious. And they have seating to accommodate small-large groups. The dim lighting adds to the calm vibe of the restaurant. The service is so fast. I feel like every item came out so quickly. And the servers checked in pretty frequently to clear the table, ask you if you need another drink, dessert, etc. it did feel a bit rushed. As a starter they give you their Ciabatta bread and the sun-dried tomato oil. The oil was DELICIOUS. I literally bought a jar to take home. For my drink I got the Fresca. It was good, very refreshing. For my entree I got the Linguini & Clams. It was good, could've used a bit more salt but the sauce was good. For desert I got the boozy affogato and it was delish. Would definitely dine here again if I'm ever in the area.

When my daughter went Vegan in one of those 'phases of…read morelife' I shook my head but I do love my veggies and have come to discover some really great Vegan dining but it is never the first thing I look for. So when I was told that I would love the Daily Veg I was hesitant but the endorsement piqued my curiosity and I also had a meeting in the neighborhood so I stopped by to discover what would be a perfect "quick" dining experience because this is not fast food. The Daily Veg has a positive vibe when you walk in and the staff were extremely friendly as they encouraged us to enjoy the food. And, perhaps even more importantly I was nudged to sample an incredibly delicious "milkshake" that I really never would have ordered on my own. They call their food "COMFORT FOOD" but I called it yummy! The menu board and the staff member made the Cowboy Cheeseburger should like it should be my choice plus Sweet Potato Tater Tots ... I so love tater tots and SWEET potato tots sounded so good. And, I quickly ordered a regular beverage but I was asked ... "Wouldn't you like to try our "Cookie Monster" milkshake? I looked at the image ... it was blue and I remembered an awful blue ice cream my grandson had purchased elsewhere and then shared with me that was awful so I was saying no no no but they said yes yes yes so I went for it. When you are trying out a new place and the staff says try it ... I guess you try it. Let me tell you ... that COWBOY BURGER was absolute comfortly delicious. The blend of flavors was oh so good ... ok, you can't create Vegan bacon so the "tempeh bacon" is NOT BACON ... not crisp nor tasting like the bacon I love but it's flavor was a perfect match for Daily Veg's "Beyond Burger" patty. The pepper jack cheese melted into the sandwich and the onion rings ... mmmmm I am getting hungry remembering that yummy sandwich. The tots made me very happy but the milkshake was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Now, I had been craving a milkshake before visiting the Daily Veg. I did not tell the folks there that I was craving a thick delicious milk shake because the last place (Until now) I would ever order a milkshake would be a Vegan outlet. But that blue Cookie Monster shake ... OMG .... So good starting with the cookies on top. The cookie crumbles throughout ... the rich dairy-like flavor and the the blue didn't bother me at all .... Because I was being treated to something really good. My friend who went for the Pretzel Sausage and enjoyed that choice and I agreed that we will return and next time encourage others to join us. Who would have thought ... VEGAN "comfort food" not fast food ... but it is served quickly by people who want you to enjoy it (The young lady who made my milkshake even came out to our table to see if I enjoyed it.). I wouldn't be surprised to see franchises in your neighborhood ... a fun comforting meal. I need a milkshake that's blue COOKIE MONSTER!!!!
