We ordered MR temp for our meals and received MR on the cap but MW on the rest of the cut; when brought to her attention she immediately offered a price discount, and then a possible new cut. I thought it odd...I didn't want to pay less, I wanted the proper temp. I opted for the discount b/c I couldn't support wasting the meat. About halfway through the meal we were asked how many to-go boxes we needed. We were still eating our meal. There was a line of about 4 distinct parties waiting at the front, but plenty of tables in the dining room...what gives? Even if your restaurant is short staffed- train your staff to atleast greet people and tell them that there is a wait? Or a "sorry we will be with you soon"? The service was friendly, but a line had formed at the front, and it took a good five minutes or more before an employee even saw us. Placing a to-go order was easy, and quick. The mac and cheese bites were good and reasonably priced, but the crab cakes were more expensive than justified for the portion. I was told there would be four, but since the three I received are not safe for my dog to eat, it doesn't matter. They are dried out, hollowed out, burnt potatoes which are topped with fake looking cheese that appears to have a half life longer than a Twinkie. The skins were definitely deep fried because you can smell the fish on them - they clearly use the same oil for everything! I immediately threw away the crab cakes in the lobby garbage can, not realizing the potato skins were going to just as bad. The crab cakes were a 1/4" thick, including the heavy breading. Thus, there was just enough crab to make the breading stick but not enough to even notice the crab. They were thickly breaded potato chips. I doubted they were crab, but could visibly see part of a claw shell in the breading so it was actually the smallest amount of crab possible. I will not be coming back my next two nights here. Some friends and I stopped in at Home Port restaurant to have our last dinner in Ocean Shores for 2024. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was excellent! The chicken was large, juicy, perfectly cooked and the breading was almost nonexistent. It was served with broccoli and cauliflower and garlic Texas Toast. The meal also included a house salad that had greens, copious sliced black olives, a tomato wedge, beet slices, and a large assortment of dressing to choose from! My only complaint would have been the toast had the consistency of non-toasted bread. Disappointing. However, the meal was excellent and I was very pleased with my selection and Home Port's preparation. The staff was very professional and helpful. One word of warning: as of this review, the cooks were new and their production was very slow. Be prepared to wait for a table, but the wait was definitely worth it. read more

This is the second time coming to the Home Port. The first time I had the Fried Razor Clams. I love Fried Razor Clams. I was appalled by what I received. They advertise that they are grilled. However, they had obviously been put into the fryer and who knows when the last time the oil had been changed. The had an extremely rancid taste to them. I was unable to finish my meal. We decided to try them again, as it had been a few years since the clams incident. I ordered the grilled salmon which was very tasty . My wife ordered a sirloin steak, medium rare. When they steak arrived we could tell that it wasn't cooked as ordered. It looked hard and dry. When she cut into the steak it was obviously well done. It took several minutes for our server to come, after we advised another staff member. The steak was taken away and another was prepared. Our server was very apologetic about the event. As to the ambiance, I like the rustic wood interior with the commercial fishing theme. Others may want to try here, but we won't be returning. read more

I was super nervous going here after seeing the Yelp reveiws and it was somewhat close to closing time to boot. At first, the server didn't seem too excited to see us, but she was really friendly as our visit progressed. The food made up for it though. The seafood platter was just what I needed. So much food that I had tons of leftovers. All the seafood in the platter tasted fresh and cooked correctly. I was a tourest and thought Home Port was known for great food. I got the Captains Plate as take out. It was horrible, it appeared that they didn't drain the oil off of the deep fried entries and then put them in a take out container without holes. By the time I got to my motel (5 minutes later) all the fried foods were moist, actually wet. The breading fell off the meat because it was so wet. I took the leftovers home (many) and put in my air dryer for 15 minutes and still wet. The claim chowder was good. read more

For our last dinner in Ocean Shores we went to Home Port. It's another nautical themed steak and seafood place. It was clean and appropriately lighted. It could probably use some updating. They feature Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday but I cannot opine on it since they were out. They open at 4pm and we got there about 6:30 pm and they had none. Our server said you have to get there around 4 if you have hopes for the Prime Rib. Eating a Prime Rib dinner at 4pm is not my thing. I'm betting the early bird oldsters descended on Home Port and dusted off that Prime Rib pretty quick. I don't blame them since they don't have much time left on the planet. Let 'em pack an artery before they kick off if they want to. I opted for the 10 ounce NY Strip and it was good. Cooked correctly. Came with a salad and baked potato. I thought the potato was a little on the small side but it was good. There was a $4.99 up charge for sautéed mushrooms so beware of that if you want them. They have an attached lounge and that was where most of the clientele was situated. Mrs. Billy D had the chicken fettuccine. She said it was good but she wasn't wow'd by it. Also know they charge a 3.95% surcharge if you use a credit/debit card. They call it a " convenience fee" but I call it a rip- off and an extra tax. Our total bill was just under $90 so I was "conveniently " charged an extra $3.52. Of course they don't tell you about that upfront. Once again no photos since I totally forgot to take any. My wife had the rubin with clam chowder and I had the fish burger with fries. Service was prompt and the food very good. The rubin and chowder were the best we've had in a long time. We would have them again, the true test of how good the food is. The fish burger is a large piece of perfectly cooked cod, (not breaded), which could not have been better. I liked that the house made tarter sauce was on the side without requesting it that way. I would like a little more dill in the tarter sauce, still a very nice presentation of a fish burger. Oh, I am not really sure what I can say about this place without sounding too antagonistic. My family and I swung by this spot with a raving recommendation from someone who was leaving. We were unfortunately left extremely disappointed and felt very greasy afterwards. Everything we ordered was either very greasy from being fried or very overcooked (see photo). I don't like to leave negative reviews very much because I know these small businesses in small towns don't need the negativity or less customers, but this was.....not good. We were also told upon ordering that the razor clams were up to $24.99 versus their standard $19.99 due to popular demand....not a big deal, but they gave us 3 clams and none of us in our group enjoyed them. This was also the highest rated item by the random person we met in the parking lot. I hope to see this place turn around, but right now, overcooked and greasy food just leaves us disappointed, spending more money than necessary to feel like we couldn't eat anything. Granted, the workers were very polite and we could tell the staff was feeling overworked/overwhelmed. We cannot say anything bad about the service we received. This place reeks of imminent death. This restaurant is absolutely about to shut down. I've been going to this restaurant for about 17 years. It used to be one of the proud flagships of the Ocean Shores culinary experience. But boy has it fallen on hard times. There's obviously massive dysfunction, apparently centered around the behavior of the chefs. Both times I tried to go to this restaurant this week, I had very apologetic servers and hosts telling me that because of the complete dysfunction meltdown in the kitchen, food may take more than an hour to get to the table, and or they aren't able to seat you for a half hour even in a completely empty restaurant. Both times, we left without dining there. Obviously, ownership is behind on the lease, or hasn't paid the vendors, or has some sort of inappropriate relationship with meth head kitchen staff, or something is going very wrong. The first time we went we were told that food might take over an hour and we maybe didn't want to be seated. When we left one of the kitchen staff/chefs came marching outside in a dirty disgusting apron, and looking like an absolute meth tweaker, angrily pulled the "open" flag down and marched back inside with it as if he was about to have a complete meltdown. This was fully 45 minutes before closing time. Whatever is happening here, it's very sad, because this used to be one of the best restaurants in town. Absolutely do not go to this restaurant. Avoid at all costs. I predict this restaurant will be shut permanently within 30 days or less. And if you work there, it is time to seek alternative employment. It pains me to write this because I've been to this place at least 50 times over the years, and I tried to show my loyalty by going there this week despite the horrible recent reviews. But it's over. Done. Whatever is going on in the kitchen, it has destroyed this place. The owner should be ashamed for keeping this failure pit going in some last minute money grab. Just shut it down. read more

8/3/24 worse dinner ever! My wife ordered the captain's plate and the only thing edible was the bake potato and even that was like warm. The fish came out undercooked/ raw and not pleasing to the eye at all. I ordered the two piece cod dinner and it was over cooked and dry. Needless to say it was not worth the $60.00 price tag. Great food, lots of variety. Wait staff were awesome! The only downside is the women's bathroom; it was DISGUSTING!!! They need to wipe that whole thing down with bleach. Toilets were filthy and the walls of the stalls were vomit-inducing! I don't know how anybody could walk in there (employee/manager wise) and not notice. So nasty! One star isn't low enough for how I feel about this restaurant. It was a rocky start, the older woman in the bar/ lounge refused to sell me pull tabs because I was under 21. Their machines were broken, so pull tabs were at the bar. I had valid ID to show that I was over the age of 18, and she said "You're not 21 you can't even have these" (referring to pull tabs). No big deal, I brushed her poor attitude off. An older female was our waitress, and she came by after 5 minutes of us sitting down to greet us. Restaurant only had one other table sat, and two people in the bar. There were 5 workers on the floor, so I was a bit put off that this woman had watched my boyfriend and I sit down, and hadn't came around to even give us menus. Again, brushed it off. We were asked upon her greeting what we'd like to eat, we hadn't even gotten the chance to look at the menu seeing that she had just handed us them. We asked for a minute to look over and she huffed away but returned after 15 minutes. We placed our orders, I had calamari, and my boyfriend had the prawn fettuccine. It took 50 minutes to get our food out. Not once did we get checked on, or updated on when our food would be out. After the long wait, our food was set on our table. My calamari was cold, soggy, and a soft texture. My boyfriend's fettuccine had undercooked prawns on it, and not fully cooked noodles. There was a lack of flavor, a lack of service, and it was disappointing considering that we had waited almost an hour in an empty restaurant. We asked for the bill, and we were met with a very angry tone and our waitress stormed off. We decided to just go up to the counter to pay, and we were not given a receipt or even a proper bill. My boyfriend handed her a hundred since we didn't know how much everything cost, and she angrily counted our change back and sent us on our way. As soon as my partner and I walked in, we should have walked out. We stood there for a couple minutes, until a worker said someone will be right with us. So we sat down on the lobby bench, next thing we know, a worker is treating us like children, scolding us for sitting down in the 'waiting area' because "no one would be able to see us". Why have seats then? Then comes the food. I was interested in the prime rib until I read on the menu, if I wanted a leaner piece of meat I should choose a different cut. Fair. So I chose a 12 oz rib steak, which was really a good 2 oz of lean meat. The rest was ALL fat. My partner and I felt like we were walking on eggshells with the atmosphere. We were running around town past 8pm on a Monday and this place was the only one we could find open. It's a bit pricey but the food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp cocktail appetizer and the Chef's choice Sautéed Seafood. I haven't had clam chowder in over a decade and their Razor clam chowder really hit the spot! My boyfriend had the Captain's Platter which had some various fried seafood on it. The food was very fresh so I was pleased. The hospitality was on par by the host and our server Nate who had only been there for two months. If you go I highly recommend getting Nate as your server. He was so friendly and accommodating the entire visit.
