Solid brunch spot and our go to for fresh donuts. The old fashioned and their donut holes are made to perfection, lightly crispy and not overly sweet. Just wish they still made their blueberry fritters-they were the best! Good coffee too if you're looking for a grab and go option.
Good brunch spot, but even better donuts! Came on a Sunday around 1pm and it wasn't too crowded. We got seated right away. Got to try the duo eggs benedict - it has one with hollandaise sauce and another with gravy, with a side of hash browns. I liked the hollandaise sauce more than the gravy, which was a bit thick and could have more flavor. The hash browns were crispy. Nothing crazy about the dish but it was prepared well - the combo of poached egg, Canadian bacon, and avocado hit the spot. We got donuts on the way out as well - donut holes, raised glazed, twist, maple bacon, and filled donuts (they fill it to order). The donuts were fluffy, soft, and not overly sweet/oily. Would highly recommend! They gave us a cinammon roll to try as well which was very kind of them, and it was one of the favorites we tried.
Sorry, but... this is an extremely generous three because their donuts are good and I really hate dinging small businesses. Came in here for breakfast because we're starting to feel like crazy Ole's addicts. My husband ordered Eggs Benedict and hashbrowns. His food was actually good, but it was cold because they don't warm the plates and they waited too long to bring it out, so not very appetizing. I ordered their sandwich that is essentially a turkey BLT with pickles, and french fries on the side. The bread was very weird and not good. Kind of hard and crumbly. I don't think it was stale, I just don't think it was good bread. Reminded me of that kind of bread you get that's not actually made with flour. You can see from the photo how much bacon I got on my sandwich which was ridiculous. There was actually more on the other side -- just not a very well crafted sandwich. And I personally didn't like the turkey. It just tasted like cheap lunchmeat. The fries were not homemade in spite of the name of the restaurant. The service was fine. I tried to ask the server about the tuna (I tend to like a dry tuna rather than a wet one) and rather than take the hint and just offer me a sample she sat there and basically said she didn't know. Which is why I didn't order it. The place is pretty grimy. Dust and bits of crumbs in the windowsills and under the tables, things like that. It was also ice cold in there and all the workers were bundled up with beanies. Maybe turn on the heater, people. We hadn't been here for years and I won't be making a trip back anytime soon. Except maybe for the donuts which are good.
I really appreciated the variety on the menu. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I ordered the Florentine scramble and the execution didn't quite land. The use of sliced cheese made the dish a bit difficult to eat, as it clung to the scramble. My friend had the Benedict and described it as good, but very basic. Overall average dining experience due to the food.
Home Skillet is an amazing breakfast place. Whatever you order, it will be delicious. Plus so many fresh donuts to choose from! I ordered the Monte Cristo with a side of fruit, my favorite and it was so good. My husband got pancakes, our friends ordered a scramble and a classic breakfast. We ordered tator tots for the table. Service was so fast and efficient but not pushy, lots of free refills. It wasn't very crowded so we stayed and talked for awhile. The owner brought us a free giant donut to share. It was a lovely time with tasty food and best friends.
I'm so glad we found this hidden little gem out in alameda! The food here is so good and they are quick to get it out to you. It seemed like as soon as we ordered the food it was being delivered to our table. The food is also such a good price! I like how the entire restaurant is small and quaint which gives it a very homey vibe. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu when we get that little taste for breakfast food!
Nice brunch place in Alameda. We got in after lunch time but was still able to catch brunch before they closed. We had the Alameda Scramble, Tooth Fairy French Toast and the Haus Eggs Benedict. Our orders came fast and the service was pleasant and efficient. I can only speak for the Haus Eggs Benedict as that's what I had. That's the one I rated the 5 star. It had apple smoked bacon, turkey and avocado along with the normal poached egg, English muffin and hash browns. I was very satisfied with this very California version of eggs Benedict.
Ok. I don't know how they get such good reviews. Average at best .. I asked our waitress about the birds nest - she said it's too much meat ? And she didn't like it . Hmm? Makes me wonder ? The Jack n cheese omlette was good - so was the birds nest- I thought everything was good. I was put off a little by the response at first. I do business and I praise my staff , my products and I want people to be happy- if I didn't like something I would suggest something else - not that I didn't like it. " some people really like it " or it's good , this one is excellent though - it was different . I used the restroom - a weird odor and it's a storage closer too- maybe it was the cleaning supplies or whatever was stored in there that had the odor. Coffee had grounds in it. No biggie . But it's worth noting . The little things matter . I like the open kitchen and the comms were fast and pleasant. The young man that was cooking was helpful and had a good smile. Our waitress was a little grumpy maybe. It's almost in the corner and you can walk past it . You have to keep an eye out for the door. Will I be back ? No. The menu is avg - and I didn't get a welcoming feel. One waitress was smiley and nice then others - kinda going through the paces. I'll try the other places in Alameda or maybe I'll just eat at home ...
We love this place. There are so many choices on the menu and most of the things are homemade, including the donuts and orange juice is freshly squeezed every day. When we're in Alameda, we always make sure go to Homeskillet.

This place was great ! We probably waited a max 15 minutes and were seated right away. I ordered the French toast and I couldn't have picked a better plate. My family also loved their food. My sister got the haus Benedict plate, my mother got the royal omelette & my boyfriend got a burrito we are all full and happy. Customer service is also very attentive and everyone was very sweet ! I will definitely come back here when I'm in town ! read more

The food was okay, the only thing I really, really liked was the Shroom Benedict. I ordered a side of sausage and it was burnt as seen in the picture. There are many breakfast restaurants down the road that I would probably rather go to down the strip next time. Ole's breakfast was packed with a long line, and we decided to go here for quicker breakfast. The staff are very nice, the bathroom door was sort of stuck/broken. We paid $50 and probably would skip next time since the food was a bit disappointing. -Seasonal Berry Hotcakes: Not sweet enough, it is on the plain side as well as the berries. Would have helped if they added berry jam or sauce. -Shroom Benedict: Saucy, plenty of mushrooms and spinach. The hash browns was slightly burnt and surprisingly not crispy enough but sort of mushy. -Oh Yeah Burger with side of Sweet Potato Fries: My fiancé said it was okay. - Iced Coffee: Would not order again! Lol we went to Peets next door for our morning coffee even after ordering this here. read more

Homeskillet is an Alameda brunch jewel. Big portions, decent prices, and above average provisions. Plus they have a large display of donuts- check in on Yelp to get a free one! I've gone to brunch here a few times and each time has been pretty good. I recommend coming here with an appetite or plan to share with others - I never leave here without a box if I get my own meal. Service was attentive in the beginning, although when we finished , I ended up refilling my own water glass, getting my own to-go box, and bringing the bill to the server. I didn't mind much since I needed to get up and claim my free donut anyway. Notables -Hashtag - dressed up hashbrowns -Chorizo Scrambler- packed with flavor -Eggs Benedict - New school pastrami sandwich - DONUTS!! The pancakes are nothing to write home about, especially since there is a lot of competition in the area, like Doyle St. Cafe in Emeryville and Cafe M in Berkeley, who have scrumptious pancakes. The French toast looked more promising and I may go with those next time. read more

The really cool thing about this breakfast/brunch spot is that you can get a free regular donut by checking in. This gives you something to munch on while you peruse the menu and decide what you want for breakfast! Service is pretty good here. Coffee is decent. Food is good. I had a Chocolate Old Fashion Donut. She had the Blueberry Donut. They were both moist and flavorful. For breakfast, I had the Hippie Hash. Hash Browns with lotsa Black Beans, Bell Peppers, Onions with Jack and Cheddar Cheese. Salsa and Sour Cream on the side. It was so filling, I didn't miss having meat! She was happy with her French Toast. Sad that one of her over easy eggs had broken. Such is life. Definitely a breakfast spot for us when we're in the area. read more

I felt like I had Covid coming here, because what I ordered had the texture of food, but no taste of food. I've never seen cheese, bacon, potatoes, ground beef all simply have no flavor. Thank god there was ketchup and hot sauce on the table. read more

So a friend and I had super high hopes for Homeskillet and the long line of people milling outside the place suggested that a good thing might be worth the wait. So we waited for 45 minutes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The flavor of the food was average, the cleanliness was so so (the tables were sticky and the bench seats still had food from the previous diners). The servers were super busy so at first it took quite a long time to get service or a refill on the coffee but when it slowed down we got about 3 refills in 20 minutes. The brunch-uritto was ok. We did a Yelp check in so we got a complimentary plain donut which was nothing to write home about. Honestly, the service team tried and I can appreciate that, but the plate full of bad greens mixed in with good greens tells me they were using the bottom of the bowl/bag and didn't pay attention to the quality of the food they were putting out and it ruined the whole thing. It made me question the rest of the meal. Next time I'm going to spend the same amount of money and put in the time to wait for a hometown eatery, I'll hit up Neptune's. read more

Breakfast!! My favorite meal of the day means I can have carbs!!! Why did I take so long to come here?! It's located on Park St in Alameda. Only street parking so you have to be lucky. This place is clean, modern and average size. Came here for a late breakfast on a weekday and was able to seat for five. We ordered and the food came out pretty quick. Tried: Fancy French Toast - with berries and whipped cream was awesomely delicious!! I loved this especially that it was a butter croissant as their bread! I will have to try this at home one day!***** Shroom Benedict - mushrooms and spinach was very good and sauce was not too heavy. Hash browns were very good, too. Very good portion.***** Hot Tea - good***** Loved the service as they were attentive and very friendly! They always refilled our water and asked if we needed anything else as we were just enjoying our sweet time there. My daughter even spilled some of her food and they came right away with napkins. They even gave us free donuts just to wish us 'Happy Thursday' or maybe, they were trying to get rid of them? Haha Either way, we were surprised and happy! Always like coming here. I don't think it's the best breakfast spot nearby, but it's definitely worth stopping by for brunch every now and again. The wait can be brutal sometimes, but I love that once you're seated, they don't rush you, so that's a plus! The food is tasty, I've gotten the French toast and a few of the Benedict's and it's all good. I'll keep coming back for sure! read more

Come for the brunch, stay for the donuts. I struggle writing this review because I've learned that I just can't justify paying more than $13 for a brunch menu as "safe" as it is in Homeskillet. They don't do anything wrong, and they're good at what they do, but each bite just made me think, I paid $13+ for this? I'm just sayin that eggs, toast, and a nice presentation isn't enough for me as a consumer these days. There is, however, an undeniable allure to this place and their service is incredible (pandemic or not). A separate review should be written about their donuts. Eat their donuts. Buy their donuts. Love their donuts. Message me on Yelp and ask me to go with you to get donuts. So I have a reason to eat more of their donuts. Cheers! read more

Quality-Quality-Quality- That's my first observation walking through the door, now that I've tasted the food, I'm going to repeat-Quality-Quality-Quality, Everything was Fresh, Eggs was real not liquid, HashBrown with Real Potatoes, That Bacon is the One... Now the only bad thing is they can't take the Title for Best Pancakes on Earth, I'm just really in Love with Denny's New Pancakes( It think it's in the batter)... Either way Every Time, I'm in the Oakland, CA... Soriya and Scout was extremely helpful, now they just dropped the Bill Off, I'm not even going to do my normal complaining, just for the record, I always complain when I'm spending so don't mind me, In conclusion the Food and Staff is well worth Every Penny spent... Today at Homeskillet and couldn't have been happier with the experience! I had California love sandwiches with hash brown and fresh orange juice. Also, I love the donuts here! My favorite are chocolate old fashioned and blueberry lemon cake. The food was great and I will definitely be back. read more

Just ordered from Door Dash and it's pretty horrible. We ordered Fancy French Toast, and it came disheveled and with NO SYRUP! We ordered pancakes, they came burnt with NO SYRUP! Bacon was under cooked, eggs over cooked. The 2 stars are for the hash browns. Those were good! That's all, won't be back. read more

I'm a huge brunch fan. So, I decided that I'd order from here. I ordered the Haus Benedict and the Cinnamon roll. Overall, the meal was adequate. Standard flavor and a decent run when the egg was cut into. However, the turkey meat was dry. This became an issue because my meal arrived cold (ordered through UberEats). Thus, I had to reheat my meal and that further dried out the meat. The cinnamon roll was the redemption arc of the saga. First of all, the cinnamon roll was larger than my fist. It was massive! And, it was just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. It had a nice glaze over the top and wasn't too crumbly. Final thoughts: not too bad. read more

We had an ok brunch here. The people were nice. I am saying four stars to this place because the veggie omelet was extremely disappointing. Normally when I think of an omelet, the veggies are cooked with the egg. However, they cook the veggies in a pan and then cook egg separately and just lay the egg over all the veggies. My husband had to add salt, pepper and other things for it to feel like it had taste. The hash browns were made well and my brother and I had pancakes which were fine too. We were just super disappointed with the omelet. The strawberries on my pancakes were a little hard/tough as well. I assume their doughnuts must be good but we didn't taste them. The people were nice and it was a quiet time on a Saturday. Their food is reasonably priced as well. It was an ok brunch overall. I have seen reviews here now on the eggs Benedict's and such that people say they are good, maybe we just didn't order well for a satisfying brunch. Just a tip- around the restaurant you have to pay for parking Monday-Saturday $1.50 an hour just so you know, but that's standard I think in busy downtown type areas. I think if I come back it'll be to try their doughnuts. read more

Five star restaurant! I will leave a quick review. My family and I went here on my birthday for breakfast. We were seated instantly and the staff were very kind and attentive. We ordered our food and got it in less than 5 minutes (I'm serious!). The location is also nice, which is really close to Alameda High School. Easy five stars for me! read more

I heard the line gets pretty long so my GF and I came at 9:30am on a Saturday, which equated to waiting about 10 minutes with 2 other parties in front of us. Not bad? I love mom & pops type of diners because the portions are always huge and the price point, reasonable. I opted for their most popular dish, the Bird's Nest. A very appealing color way of cream to brown hues, the Bird's Nest is the dish to get if you want to reward yourself with a YOLO meal because you ran 11 miles earlier in the week. The sour cream was just the cherry on top of the scrambled beef & hash brown mix. I highly recommend you sub your toast with an english muffin. Scratch that. Must sub. My mantra: there is never too much potato in your life. I had hash brown but my justification is that hash brown potatoes are prepared different from tater tot potatoes...With that said, the tots serving was ginormous. I was so full and there was so much that we ended up packing it to go as a snack at our next event! Overall, Homeskillet is a solid neighborhood breakfast joint. I'll definitely come back if I'm ever in the neighborhood and a donut will be at the top of my list of things to try! read more

This place is a certified go-to breakfast spot. Start with the housemade donuts (sorry I'm never quick enough for a pic!). My brood goes for the green tea donut, while I'm a sucker for their orange with sprinkles. Littlest usually gets some Nutella-stuffed monstrosity, Big Girl gets an egg breakfast, hubby chows down on the Hippie Hash (and I am not shy about nabbing some hash-black bean action) and I usually grab the California Love breakfast sandwich with all its eggy, bacony, avocadoy goodness on a crisp piece of wheat. Coffee is on point. The OJ is freshly squeezed and incredible. Always friendly service and fresh, quick food. read more
