My wife and I were not that hungry so we just ended up splitting the #3 bird's nest which consisted of hash browns and sunny side eggs and ground beef with other veggies. I figured how good a can a skillet be but this thing was delicious! very flavorful and the sour cream was a good fit for it. I added some tabasco and ketchup to finish it off and it was yummy. The store is kind of small and the drinks and coffee are all self serve. The wait was long for our food and it was probably because the workers are new and it was busy. There is some counter sitting options available. But overall, I liked it and the portions are big. I took my mom out for breakfast this past Friday for our one on one... we arrived around 8 am and it wasn't as busy as I expected it... which was nice since the place is small. I can only assume how busy it gets over the weekend! We got seated... my mom wanted the chocolate banana french toast and I opted for the eggs plate... ordered... the service was okay... not the best but it was early... so I'm giving that a pass. Plus it was a Friday... it was a long week. My mom inhaled her food... and that's unusual for her! That only meant one thing... she really liked the food! My eggs plate (2 sunny side with toast) was good... kept me filled for almost half the day! Homeskillet was always a place I had walked by often in Alameda, and my brother often likes going here for their donuts. Overall while it isn't a bad place for brunch in Alameda, I think I'd come here more so for their donuts instead. When I came at around 10am on a Wednesday, there were no other customers inside the restaurant, and my server seemed very nice. Original Hot Cakes ($6) Comes with 2 large pancakes, which were cooked really nicely, and were soft and delicious. However, the side of butter that it came with the hot cakes had a piece of hair and little pieces of black lint in it, which I found odd. After sending it back and notifying the waitress, she gave me another side of butter, but oddly enough it looked the same/like she had scraped off the top layer a little and had reserved it back to me, because it still had pieces of black lint to the inside side edges of the butter container. I don't know if they just leave their butter out before serving it to customers, but judging from the hard layer of butter on top with the collective black lint, I was kind of wary that BOTH sides of butter I had to send back had small flecks of black lint in it. I ended up scraping my second side of butter off kinda warily. Matcha Donut - Free with a Yelp check in. Not a bad matcha donut, though the matcha taste wasn't as potent as I'd expect it to be/plus the paper component that it was given in got all of the matcha glaze onto the paper bag. But it was a nice, soft donut, and since I'm already a fan of their donuts, if I came back I'd probably order another flavor of donuts instead. Overall, I mean Homeskillet gets a 3.5, but pushing more towards a 3 than a 4. Is it a bad place to eat at? No. But do I like it more than other places in Alameda, like Ole's or even Jim's, which are virtually a block away? Uhhhh I don't know about that. I think it's not a bad establishment, but personally I don't think I'd come back unless it was for their donuts. This review is for the friendliness and customer service (and donuts!) of Homeskillet. I would occasionally stop by and grab a donut or pastry but it is really not advisable for my health haha! Anyway, I just wanted to say this cafe has good donuts, good brunches, but most of all, the manager 'Polo'- was very friendly and accomodating. I came in to request for a donation for our fundraiser, and as a small business, I realize it could be somewhat of a burden for them (costs, etc). He slightly hesitated since he had already donated to various events this year, but after a few seconds of me prodding, he obliged. Thank you so much Polo! I believe in karma. My husband and I have always loved coming here. Their breakfasts are delicious and capping off the meal with a donut (or two) is simply perfection. With the shelter-in-place order in effect, we are so grateful we can still enjoy our favorite foods and also support the restaurant. Came here for the first time was told it's a good breakfast spot well we where completely unsatisfied. The French toasts was good my wife said but the chorizo scramble was terrible the waitress forgot my mothers order so we end up having to share our food with her. Then the waitress keep telling us that we needed to understand that the kitchen was really busy because of DoorDash orders like it's our fault we came at such a busy time. We love this place and our server, Myra was extremely attentive, thanks girl. So I had the skillet sandwich with crispy bacon on a croissant.... yummy!!! We had a party of 8.5 people, must include the baby and although we had to wait 45 minutes, it was well worth the wait. This place is a small donut shop and cafe. It's a bit easy to miss as the door is kinda small and when you walk in, you see the bakery counter and about 10 small tables. The cafe itself is pretty small and it gets pretty busy on the weekends. They serve brunch and your typical cafe items - eggs Benedict, omelettes, burgers, and sandwiches. Everything is under $13 but most of the dishes are filled with packaged deli meats. My friends and I ordered brunch dishes and they all came with hash browns. Unfortunately they were overcooked on top and we could barely eat any of it as it was too hard and burnt. The eggs Benedict with bacon and turkey was mediocre as the turkey tasted like your typical packaged deli meat and the bacon was basic. None of us were impressed with our dishes. I eat/order from here 2-3 times a week. The food is good and consistent. The donuts are always warm and fresh and fluffy and delicious. It's a great little spot! It's just tiny. I've gotten a lot of recommendations from friends saying to try Homeskillet. Since I was in Alameda staying over my cousins', I asked if we can go there for brunch! Let me tell you, those things are HEAVEN! I can eat a whole box of their blueberry donuts. Definitely a MUST TRY if you slide to Homeskillet!!! Park Street is foodie heaven because there are so many different types of foods and choices. I'm a brunch-aholic, so Homeskillet was of course one of my bookmarks. Reading reviews, I had higher expectations. To be honest, it was just 'ehh' to me. The restaurant was packed around 1 pm, but we waited maybe 15 minutes for a table. Many tables, but be ready to get close and comfy with strangers. We were able to order quickly since there is a menu posted on the window outside as you wait. If you just want donuts, just walk in to the glass case. There are so many breakfast, burger, and sandwich choices. I had a hard time picking, but ultimately I went with the old school pastrami (basically a reuben) and my boyfriend got the Haus Benedict. I substituted the fries for tater tots, and I'm glad I did because they were so crispy! I originally wanted marble rye bread, but they "ran out." Booo. The sandwich was okay, but I've had better at local delis. The Benedict was good because it actually had real turkey, bacon, and avocado. It needed more hollandaise sauce though. That came with hash browns. The egg was poached perfectly. There's fresh squeezed OJ! It was a tad bit sour and was room temp. I suggest you ask for a separate glass of ice. The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't excellent either. The waitress seemed pissed off, but whenever we needed anything, she did her job. The woman at the donut counter was nice though.
