While visiting the Bay Area I found this little gem on the yelp app. Started out with a maple bacon donut that was supposed to be free with check in but they ended up charging me for but it was well worth it. (I deducted 1 star for that) Food was served fast and was fantastic! Service was also good. I will definitely return to this spot when I'm in the area. read more

My original decision was to get the spicy omelet but see being informed the chicken apple sausage has a pork casing, I changed my mind. Due to not eating pork and assuming chicken sausage is all chicken, I was quite disappointed to gave been told this. Went for a breakfast/brunch with a friend one Sunday late morning. They have a signup list at the door for a table. We signed and were told by the hostess that it would take about 10-15 minutes. We waited outside and were actually seated sooner. We were hungry so everything on the menu looked good. We even contemplated getting mac n cheese but settled on more traditional breakfast/brunch items. I got the chicken sausage and veggie omelet and my friend got the California Love sandwich which comes with bacon, avocado, eggs and cheese. We both enjoyed our meals which came quickly but not so fast that one would think they were already prepared. The menu items are good but another thing that makes this place awesome is that they make and sell donuts!!! They have both cake and yeast donuts too. Homeskillet is probably the best brunch place in Alameda. The service is fast even though the weekend waits are long, and the food is always satisfying. I'm extremely picky about pancakes, and their buttermilks are pretty on-point. I don't say that about every brunch place. Their donuts are great, too. I've had three different types now, and I can say they have the best donuts in Alameda. Definitely a winner. read more

Wow!! Amazing place. Tucked right into the heart of Alameda. The donuts are amazing. The service is incredible. My cup of coffee never emptied. I was on a strict diet and they accommodated the silliness of it without even batting an eye. Alex was our server, she gave us so many great recommendations and superb service. I went a while back - it's a really sweet breakfast/brunch spot. Other places in Alameda are nice but I generally prefered this one when it came to breakfast. The service there is always nice, especially when you're at the counter. Tried this place today because of many positive reviews & was not left disappointed. Arrived with a group of five around 11am and we waited about 20 minutes before we were seated (it's a relatively small place). The waitress was very friendly and within 20 more minutes we'd been served. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast items, eggs Benedict, hippie hash, alameda scramble just to name a few - and with the generous portion of fresh hash browns that were given with the food, we left super full. Only spent around $65 for five meals & drinks which was great! Didn't make it to the donuts but took a look and the next time we're definitely going to give them a taste! read more

We had breakfast here this morning. On the plus side, the Alameda omelette was good, and the pancakes were decent. Staff are friendly. On the negative side, they only have fake maple syrup. The $5 side of fruit ordered with the meal was not brought until we were half-done eating, and when it came it was nothing but a few pieces of extremely under-ripe cantelope -- practically inedible -- a handful of grapes, and a couple of pieces of nearly tasteless orange slices. Experience: Right off of a busy street in Alameda so expect to wait a bit especially for Sunday brunch. The service once your seated is really good. They are attentive and come around frequently making sure you're taken care of. This part of the experience was great. Food: A little disappointed in the flavor of the food here. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict and I got the hippie scrambled. Nothing to write home about here. We may have gotten the wrong things here to fulfill our Sunday brunch fix. Had my usual escape to Alameda, and decided to try Homeskillet. The place was full when I walked in, but was quickly acknowledged. One of the servers said she would have a table in a minute and offered me a sit at the counter while I wait. She asked me if I wanted a breakfast or lunch menu, and before I can start reading my options she had a table for me. Once I knew what I wanted I looked at the server letting her know I was ready to order, and and informed me that that I had to get in line to order. I went up and ordered, food was out in about 10 minutes. I was making up for skipping breakfast so I ordered the Chicken Apple Sausage Omelette and the special Nutella Stuffed Pancakes. A great breakfast! My omelette came out super fast and was perfectly prepared overflowing with ham, bacon, peppers, onions and gooey cheese! Love that there was a quick grill/sear on the ham. The sourdough toast was nice and thick too. A hot full-bodied cup of coffee, that was not bitter, rounded out a great breakfast. This review is strictly for the donuts I purchased to go, and not the restaurant food. Stopped by to pick a couple of donuts and a cup of coffee to munch on during a long drive. Ended up with the blueberry fritter, the blueberry glazed donut, and the maple glazed old fashioned. They were all a bit too sweet for my liking, and the glaze on all the donuts were a bit too thick. I had tried the blueberry fritter in the past and it tasted a bit over fried. Thought it could have been a fluke so I gave it another shot and it tasted over fried the second time around as well. Overall, it wouldn't be the first place that comes to mind the next time I'm craving a donut, but in a pinch it will do. read more

My youngest brother got the bird's nest, he did not like it so much. He said it sounded better than it tasted. My youngest sister got the chocolate chip pancakes, and to my surprise it was too sweet for her, so I ended up sharing my dish with her. There was a very long wait and the staff was not good about updating people as the kitchen was getting backed up. Was told it would be a 5-20 minute wait for a table and it was 40. Then after we ordered we were told the kitchen was behind on orders so it would be another 30 minutes before our food was out. This environment caused many patrons to be disgruntled (the family next to us had to wait 20 min just to pay their bill). When food came it was not worth the wait. With so many great places nearby I will not be returning and do not recommend. read more

So I've been here 5 times the past year and it's time to write a review on certain items. -Chocolate Chip Pancakes: like a better version of IHOP sums it up. sweet enough to not need syrup. go with whip cream ;). 5/5 -Old Fashion Turkey Sandwich: makes a semi-healthy meal if you pass up the butter and ease on mayo. go with rye. Super soft bun and breast patty was juicy/moist. if you dont like lemon like me, you won't taste the lemon rosemary much. 4.5/5 -French Toast: like with the pancakes, its a better version of IHOP. can be eaten without syrup if you're feeling guilty but damn its good with it! 4.5/5 -Sunrise Pesto Turkey: ran out of rye bread today so went with sourdough. The bread was a bit too sour for my liking. The turkey was good, but not "Sandwich Board" good (another great gem). I'd probably stick with one cheese next time around. 4/5. The donuts were always fresh and super soft. I had to knock off 1 star because they raised the prices on their donuts. 1 chocolate bar (non-filled), 1 maple bacon circle and 1 green tea circle donut came out to $5.40. I remember paying $1.05 for a circle donut a few months back. :/ I want to give a shout out to the wait staff as they much more efficient taking orders and taking care of their customers. I chose this place over the trusty Ole Waffle Shop because of its higher number of stars. Meh. I've had better. At Denny's even. I got the standard breakfast with eggs, sausage and hash browns. It was all average, but the hash browns. That's was the worst part of the meal. It just wasn't crispy or well done. It tasted barely cooked through. The saving grace was the donut. With a Yelp check in, you get a free donut. I opted for a glazed old fashioned. (I really mean a regular glazed, but I didn't have my coffee yet.) Service was slow at the counter, I wasn't in a rush, so that was ok. But I needed my coffee. And it was painful to wait for my coffee refill. Maybe I'll go back with a friend or a small group next time. The tables seemed to get better service. read more
