Donuts!!!! Mmmm! I love a fresh apple fritter. This is a super cute restaurant but you can just go to the back counter for a quick treat.

The hash browns weren't crispy. You have to get the fundamentals right, and that means hash browns with some crispyness to them. The mushroom and spinach eggs benedict was ok. A bit bland, and the quantity and tannins of the spinach overpowered the hollandaise. read more

Looking for a delicious brunch in Alameda? Look no further than Homeskillet, which is bringing out brunch classics like benedicts and hash scrambles, as well as some seriously inventive burgers. And, hey, yes, they have donuts too! On such a beautiful sunny day in Alameda, we decided to spring for donuts with our coffee. The plain glaze and chocolate were a good balance of cakey and fluffy, great for dipping in black coffee! The Shroom Benedict was fresh and flavorful, with hash browns that would please any hash purist. The hollandaise had notes of citrus and spice that complemented the spinach and mushroom nicely. My boyfriend enjoyed the Bird's Nest hash, which was sautéed hash brown with sausage and cheese. He decided to add mushroom as well. The sourdough toast one the side was thickly cut. The service was friendly and attentive, and the vibe was laid back and a little country, with wood accents and classic photos on the wall. I would visit Homeskillet again. I still have to try those amazing looking burgers! read more

There was a very long wait and the staff was not good about updating people as the kitchen was getting backed up. Was told it would be a 5-20 minute wait for a table and it was 40. Then after we ordered we were told the kitchen was behind on orders so it would be another 30 minutes before our food was out. This environment caused many patrons to be disgruntled (the family next to us had to wait 20 min just to pay their bill). When food came it was not worth the wait. With so many great places nearby I will not be returning and do not recommend. read more

We had breakfast here this morning. On the plus side, the Alameda omelette was good, and the pancakes were decent. Staff are friendly. On the negative side, they only have fake maple syrup. The $5 side of fruit ordered with the meal was not brought until we were half-done eating, and when it came it was nothing but a few pieces of extremely under-ripe cantelope -- practically inedible -- a handful of grapes, and a couple of pieces of nearly tasteless orange slices. The coffee was just so-so. Not a terrible place, but would definitely not go back. read more

Simply great breakfast with friendly service. We've seen lines of high school kids lined up to get donuts. My experience is that they know even more than cops where to get good ones read more

This is a wonderful little place to eat at. Very diverse menu and very friendly staff. This may very well be my new favorite regular diner

To start - there is no better donut on the Island anywhere. Beyond that, they've got a very tasty menu with lots of yum everywhere. The ambiance is pretty "down home" read more

This place definitely is tightly packed but the food was good and a decent portion. The staff is very friendly and the women who appeared to be a manager was so helpful and definitely makes this place feel welcoming. Loss one star for the waitress not really paying close attention to my order as she misheard me and placed the wrong order, perhaps having them repeat the order would be helpful. My correct order was brought out quickly and no harm no foul still a good visit. read more

So I've been here 5 times the past year and it's time to write a review on certain items. -Chocolate Chip Pancakes: like a better version of IHOP sums it up. sweet enough to not need syrup. go with whip cream ;). 5/5 -Old Fashion Turkey Sandwich: makes a semi-healthy meal if you pass up the butter and ease on mayo. go with rye. I sub the fries for greens so I never had their fries...yet. 4.5/5 -Grilled Chicken Burger: better than the grilled chicken at Red Onion for sure. And bigger size. I went easy on the mayo/garlic oil on this and it was still great. Super soft bun and breast patty was juicy/moist. if you dont like lemon like me, you won't taste the lemon rosemary much. 4.5/5 -French Toast: like with the pancakes, its a better version of IHOP. can be eaten without syrup if you're feeling guilty but damn its good with it! 4.5/5 -Sunrise Pesto Turkey: ran out of rye bread today so went with sourdough. The bread was a bit too sour for my liking. The turkey was good, but not "Sandwich Board" good (another great gem). I'd probably stick with one cheese next time around. 4/5. The donuts were always fresh and super soft. I had to knock off 1 star because they raised the prices on their donuts. 1 chocolate bar (non-filled), 1 maple bacon circle and 1 green tea circle donut came out to $5.40. I remember paying $1.05 for a circle donut a few months back. :/ I want to give a shout out to the wait staff as they much more efficient taking orders and taking care of their customers. Although we came in during a peak rush, the handful of waitresses worked fast. Keep up the good work Home Skillet! read more

The donuts are top-notch. The breakfast burrito was more like... a burrito burrito. There was a lot of meat, the eggs weren't distinct but were mixed into the meat, and the potatoes came on the side. Super friendly staff. read more

I chose this place over the trusty Ole Waffle Shop because of its higher number of stars. Meh. I've had better. At Denny's even. I got the standard breakfast with eggs, sausage and hash browns. It was all average, but the hash browns. That's was the worst part of the meal. It just wasn't crispy or well done. It tasted barely cooked through. The saving grace was the donut. With a Yelp check in, you get a free donut. I opted for a glazed old fashioned. (I really mean a regular glazed, but I didn't have my coffee yet.) Service was slow at the counter, I wasn't in a rush, so that was ok. But I needed my coffee. And it was painful to wait for my coffee refill. Maybe I'll go back with a friend or a small group next time. The tables seemed to get better service. read more

Homeskillet - Food took a lil long to arrive but after arriving this plate was worthy of the wait - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Alameda, California

My kids and I love Homeskillet. Good food and the staff are great. Don't forget about the donuts. Oh my!

What's up homeskillet! I actually came here for donuts (cuz I freaking love donuts) but the food smelled so good, we decided to sit down and eat a real meal. My husband and I split the Bird's Nest and the Chocolate Banana French Toast. Both were good and came out fairly quickly. I don't like syrup on my french toast, I usually have it with a little butter and powdered sugar, so since this was served with chocolate chips and bananas it felt a little dry. No whip cream. The Bird's Nest was juicy and salty and everything you want from a hash brown breakfast. Really good service. Our drink orders were taken quickly, and the manager came to check in on us a couple of times. We must have came at the perfect time because we barely waited, but I did notice there was a decent wait by the time we left. Next time I will stick to my guns and order some donuts! read more

Ehhhhh wasn't the biggest fan. From a customer service stand point they get 5 stars for sure, everyone inside was very friendly & attentive. The food was solid, I ordered pancakes & my wife had the croissant French toast which were tasty. The donuts were unfortunately disappointing. My main issue was that it felt like a Denny's in terms of quality. Yes the food is filling, but for the price paid I'd prefer a more unique experience read more

Food is good, love stopping by in the morning for their donuts

So stinkin good! Parking is a breeze. Either in the lot behind or metered in front of the restaurant on park. And check in for that free donut of your choice. But don't eat it right after a full meal. You'll end up waddling out of the restaurant like me regretting shoving that delicious donut in my mouth after a meal! Service was great! Stopped by on a weekday and was seated immediately. The service was exceptional and quick. Food was fantastic. Got the hashtag but didn't get an image Bc I was that hungry (oopsie!). Full of avocado, eggs, hash browns with onions, sour cream and toast. Something so simple yet so homey... my homeskillet. read more

This place has made me a fan of eggs Benedict. It's what sets this place a part. Lines are common but the wait is never crazy long. My favorite breakfast place. read more

I'd say Home Skillet is really good, and you should try it. I don't know that it's open for anything but breakfast. Seems like just a breakfast place. Should you drive more than 30 minutes to try it? Maybe. 45 minutes? Nah. But if you're on or near Alameda Island, sure. Everyone orders the donuts because they're there in the glass cabinet, like pie in a diner. I tried a couple. A lot of people are ordering them as an "appetizer" before their meal arrives. One of the donuts is maple with bacon crumbles on top, which is popular right now. I ate one of those. Really good. But would I say great? Probably not. I had to have the eggs Benedict because I'm an eggs Benedict aficionado. It came with a side of crispy home fries. I enjoyed the Home fries more than the eggs bene. So I'd say try Home Skillet if it's convenient for you, but don't make a special voyage. read more

Came here on a Sunday morning with a friend as this was listed as a good brunch spot in Alameda. Left feeling unsatisfied and disappointed. The place is SUPER tiny and we waited about 35 minutes to be seated. After reading the reviews, I guess I just expected more from this place... Once we were seated, the waitress came right over and handed us menus. My first issue was that this place doesn't offer any type of breakfast cocktail...literally just coffee, water, soda and tea. The breakfast menu was also slightly different from what was pictured online, which was also disappointing as one of the items featured online was what my friend wanted to order. We finally order, and I ordered the Fancy French Toast, which was supposed to be french toast made with a croissant-they even had a photo of what is was supposed to look like on the menu. When my plate arrived, it looked like a flat mess and was not even cooked all the way through. They did not use a croissant for this french toast...I'm actually not quite sure what they used. It was supposed to be topped with seasonal berries and literally just had blueberries thrown on top. The food was not great and the ambiance was very odd as well...they place is so cramped you are literally sitting right next to the table next to you, there was no music so it was a bit strange, and the waitresses were running around like mad people even though there are probably 15 tables inside. Overall, the place is dated, the food is just OK and I would not come back to eat here especially if I had to wait 30+ minutes for a table. I'm honestly not quite sure why they have as high a score as they do. read more

Stopped here for brunch on the way back from the Oakland airport, and it was amazing. Super cute inside (though small) and an amazing variety of food on the menu. I got the classic breakfast with chicken apple sausage and sourdough with a side of sweet potato fries, and my boyfriend had the burger and homemade chips. We split the blueberry fritter. The fritter was AMAZING- perfect flavor, sweetness, and level of fry. My eggs and sausage were perfect (over medium eggs- runny yolk and cooked white) but my hash browns that I requested well done were greasy. I didn't eat them. The burger and homemade chips were phenomenal- delicious burger and the chips were still warm and perfectly crisp. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries that were incredible also. Everything was fantastic- just be wary if you like crispy hash browns! Next time I'll get the tater tots instead read more

Stumbled upon this place when I was in Alameda for an appointment. It was such an awesome mom & pop shop! Customer service was amazing - the main lady helping everyone out was super nice and attentive! The menu sounded so good I couldn't decide on 1 thing to get so ended up ordering a Turkey Pesto Sandwich with Avocado AND order 2 burgers to go for the the husband and son - aaaalso this way I get to try their food! If I lived closer I'd totally come here but even thinking of making the trek from Fremont to Alameda on a Sunday morning just to visit! I just imagine it'd be way busier than an early Wednesday morning like my first visit. read more

Homeskillet is a new-ish breakfast and doughnut spot on park-street in Alameda. I waited in the rain for some 30 minutes to try this newcomer to the already competitive Alameda breakfast scene. In no way did the wait influence my review. The ambiance is a little awkward. There are metal stools that I sat on, that while not uncomfortable left a little something to be desired. The food was very reasonable, and not American style portions (for fat people) which is something I really appreciated. I had a royal omelet which I found very satisfactory, but there was nothing really royal about it. The highlight of my trip was when I ordered a doughnut. Light and fluffy like any choclate glazed should be, I almost gave an extra start for the doughnut. In the end though It wasn't enough. If you are going for breakfast, there are better places in Alameda. You should definitely try the doughnuts though as the last bastion of doughnut goodness is on the west side and is barely ever open, if it is indeed still open. read more

Overall, a good to-go breakfast place. I've now been there 3 times. The brunch-arrito or however it's spelled is the main winner. Really good and really a generous portion. Not in love with the sausage they use but the rest of it is juuuuust right. I'd go with the chorizo. Their hash browns or fries are fantastic. I wolfed them down. If I had to choose, I'd go with the hash browns which I ate with my grubby fingers of the way back home. Man, I'm craving them now. Had the pastrami and swiss cheese on marbled rye ("New School Pastrami"). Very, very disappointing. If a NY deli pastrami sandwich is a 10, this thing is a one. Just not good enough to feature. Pastrami is tough at best, swiss cheese is lost in the shuffle, fixins are wimpy and wilty. It's just a fail. And it cost $12.60 for crying out loud. Ridiculous. Once you find the things you like, like the Brunch arrito, stay with them and the place warrants 4 stars, IMO. read more

Umm just eat here, that's it! It's so good! We came here to meet a friend for brunch. The food was amazing and the same for the service. We also paid $40 for 3 people not bad at all. read more

Local is loco. Love dining in my neighborhood and this place is it. Only had simple carry out so far. But I'm a slow builder. Nice service, but the food was greasy and not as good as what I could cook at home, and it wasn't anything like the pictures. The hash browns were undercooked and raw inside. The food came out in just a few minutes so I'm guessing they prestage their food. The ambience could be better- I didn't need to listen to the cook's loud music. I'm also guessing they pay for all the good reviews. read more

I really wanted french toast and I walked halfway across town to one of the only breakfast spots open early on Sunday morning. It was packed and I was seated at the bar next to the register. Immediately, the experience began to downward spiral. 3 different people attempted to take my order. The food arrived quickly but when I picked up the ketchup bottle it was covered in thick slime that made me instantly drop it on a pile of silverware . The lady at the counter saw me drop it and did not attempt to remedy the situation at all. Meanwhile , the silverware was placed right above my food on the bar and multiple servers reached over my plate to grab it . Halfway into my meal a person whom was not my original server brought me my check even though I still wanted to order some of their notoriously delicious donuts to-go. Very shortly after that, yet another server attempted to grab my plate when it still had plenty of food on it . I was asked if I wanted to refill my coffee 3 times in a 5 minute period and when I actually needed coffee, no one was paying attention to me. I am such a fan of local business but this one needs to get it together. I'm so bummed it didn't work out but at least the french toast was pretty good. read more

basic, not tasty and they messed up my whole order. wrong bread, wrong side dish, wrong filling ... the lady on the phone was annoying and not helpful read more

My food was under seasoned and cooked without skill. That means every other mistake is a reason to go elsewhere. Bad service, bad organization, overcrowding all contribute to a poor experience, but if the food is bad, there's no point in trying. I had the breakfast sandwich melt with bacon and avocado. Bread was greasy and raw (not toasty). Egg was very overcooked and not at all fluffy. Bacon was very floppy and chewy. Hash browns were adequate with condiments. The worst part is the way the service is organized. You order at a counter in the middle of the space, then someone seats you. There needs to be someone at the front telling people what's going on, handing out menus, explaining choices. There are separate menus for breakfast and lunch but they look the same and are mixed in the rack next to the cashier. You're expected to know what you want by the time you get to the cashier, but it's impossible to even know you're not seeing the whole menu, if you even got a menu, which looks like you're cutting in line to get. Coffee is deliberately awkward... at a place that serves breakfast... it's self service in paper cups at the rear of the restaurant, next to the kitchen. Cream, sugar, sleeves and lids are across the room from the coffee, So you're going to be carrying a hot open cup across the kitchen access then through the whole restaurant. You block the door while waiting to order, stop in the middle, get sent to the back to fetch your own coffee, then have to find the person who decided where you're going to sit because she's gone. And then the tables are up front near the door where a line of people holds it open and it's cold. Understaffed, awkward, stupid traffic patterns are all new restaurant mistakes-- but the food doesn't even stand on its own, let alone make up for the rest of the nonsense. read more
