Beautiful coffee shop right by the beach! Lots of parking options. Honestly, super fresh ingredients in the wrap! Absolutely delicious and guilt free, stuffed with tons of veggies! The smoothie bowl was really fruity, not super sweetened, and had fresh fruit too. There's a couple tables outside and inside so you can sit and enjoy your breakfast! read more

Cute little place. Limited seated but to-go orders were hopping. They also do online ordering. Many options from vegan, vegetarian. The food was so good. The price was fair. If I had one negative it wd be the cashew yumyum sauce was bland but it didn't effect the overall yummy taste. So many things to try the next time! read more

My first time visiting but definitely not my last! Heard about this restaurant from a friend and so glad I tried it! The staff are super friendly and the facility is really clean. Service is fast and food is super fresh! There's so many great options to choose from on the menu, from wraps to smoothies, to salads and bowls, and even deserts. You can even mix & match or customize your food if can't decide what you want! Ps- they serve breakfast all day, yessir!! I ordered the JOY breakfast wrap - regular size. It was great!! It's like the size of a chipotle burrito!! Filled with yummy goodness- eggs, avocado, black beans, spinach, carrots, & more! The flavor was so good and you can really taste the freshness of all the ingredients! I ate about 1/2 of mine and I was full - great portion, quality, and value for the price. Can't wait to come back to try more items (I have my eyes set on the A A Ron smoothie!). Love supporting locally owned shops. Also, if you have any trouble parking, I definitely recommend checking the lot right behind the shop, there's special 30 minute parking for restaurant customers. read more

My friend and I both ordered smoothies and they weren't my favorite but they were good! We got smoothies with a yogurt base and we felt like they both had too much yogurt. The other food looked good so I do want to go back and try other menu options! The service wasn't super personal but the staff was nice. After an early morning sunrise watch at Atlantic Beach in Jacksonville we were walking around looking for breakfast. Not much open but a young local couple asked if we had ever had Açaí bowls and recommended Homespun Kitchen. We ate there both mornings we were in Jacksonville, it was that good! Day 1 I had the small Lani Açaí bowl and hubby had the Regular Harrison Açaí bowl. Both were 5 star worthy. Fresh fruit, delicious granola over an açaí berry sorbet like deliciousness that is difficult to describe. It's like eating really healthy ice cream for breakfast! I'm not big on really sweet food, so next time I would leave off the agave syrup or honey topping, but sooo amazing! Day 2 we had another Harrison Regular bowl and a mini Med. Wrap. Again both were delicious. The Regular size Açaí bowls are big (make sure you look at the container sizes). All the food was fresh and delicious. Wishing we could pick this place up and drop it Ann Arbor! There were tons or vegan and vegetarian options available a d the staff was nice and helpful. I think anyone looking for a local healthy fast option would love this place. We didn't have coffee but I heard form those ordering it is amazing as well. We might even go back for an açaí bowl for dessert. I don't review that often and reserve 5 stars for the best and this food is unique, delicious and well deserved. read more

OMG! My boyfriend took me here for the first time last week and it was AMAZING. We both were going for something light that day. It's super vibey in there and the workers seem to really like what they are doing. Everything looks so fresh and delicious. We both went with açaí bowls that were topped with the freshest of fruit. Between Florida Juice and Bowl and Kairos, which have a similar price point as this place ($6.99 for a small), Homespun Kitchen has stiff competition with their açai bowls. I ordered the super goji bowl ($6.75 for a small) and when it came out, I was shocked to see the tiny serving. There was literally 1.5 inches of the acai base with fruit and nuts on top as I requested no granola. Given my surprise, one of the employees (Mathias) was kind enough to offer to remake it for me as he mentioned that it was the first day on the job for the person who made it and he wasn't sure if she'd followed the instructions accurately. Mathias was very accommodating and at no cost to me, he made the lani bowl. Having tasted two of their bowls, I think it's safe to say that the acai ice cubes that they use for the base cause the flavor to be diluted. The color of the base is also not as bright as most acai places. As I walked to my car, I began to wonder how much base is typically in their bowls but when I looked at the pictures on yelp, they all seemed to have very small amounts of base. It may also be that the serving cups and bowls are not proportionate to the sizes that they serve, which makes the value look terrible. I guess don't quite understand why some of the places in Jacksonville are so skimpy with their açai base and toppings. Each time I go back to the West Coast and get an açai bowl, I'm reminded of how good they are and how chocked full of fruit, base, and flavor they are. I'm disappointed nearly each time I get one here. Homespun kitchen unfortunately did not do much to change my mind but the three stars are for the customer service, which was quite good. I had a giftcard to this restaurant. The first two times I went there they told me they didn't have any avocados. That was weird especially since it was in a span of two weeks. I ordered the Sweet Heat last time. The flavor was good. It contains: organic egg, aged cheddar, turkey bacon, hot maple sauce, on a whole grain wrap. The wrap is cut in half and the hot sauce just leaks out. It was super messy and I had to use 6 napkins to eat it. Flavor was good but I probably won't come back. Staff wasn't friendly. I don't live in Jax, but I take trips there occasionally because I am fond of the area and my sister is currently going to school there. Every time I'm in Jax I make sure to stop by Homespun to get the Korean wrap. This wrap is so delicious, I went two days in a row during my most recent trip. I also tried the froyo for the first time which was delicious! Although, the toppings were a little sparse. This past trip to Homespun, I received superior service, the staff was very friendly. We understand it was very busy. However when it takes over 30 minutes there needs to be some sort of " notice" . I'm not sure how other than the employees telling new customers that items are taking over 30 minutes. Then we could have went to another place. I came in for a quick bite to eat and coffee for breakfast one morning. It was a cozy and warm environment with friendly people. I ordered the sweet heat burrito and the iced coffee. When I checked in, there was a 10% off coupon to use. I was able to sit And watch them make the food in the small open kitchen. The iced coffee came out quickly, and they perfectly wrapped the burrito so well I almost didn't want to open it! The burrito was delicious, with plenty of hot sauce, bacon, and eggs. We found this place on Yelp when the place we tried to go didn't open until 9am. Sometimes it's best when things don't go as planned because this place was excellent and we now have a new local favorite. The hubbs had Sweet Heat and I had the mini egg. Both tasted amazing because, you know we had to try each other's. The star of our breakfast was Lilly! The avocado toast was the best we've ever had. The best part is that everything is made there and with quality ingredients. I could tell the difference in taste and how I felt afterwards. Breakfast favorites are organic egg wraps, toast on our homemade bread, homemade açaí bowls and locally roasted espresso. Lunch and dinner feature a wide range of bowls and wrap options packed with freshly roasted veggies and house baked proteins! We also have unique smoothies, shakes and baked goods.

History

Established in 2009.

Originally founded as Happy Cup a frozen yogurt shop with a twist. The owners put a commercial frozen yogurt machine in their kitchen so they could learn how to make the frozen yogurt from scratch with organic and all natural ingredients and none of the artificial chemicals they found in all of the pre-made products that were available at the time. Now Happy Cup is Homespun Kitchen and has evolved into a place for healthy food fast and the philosophy that was used to create the frozen yogurt has been carried on to the food. Organic chicken breast is marinated 24 hours on site and house roasted to be used in chopped salads, wraps and protein bowls. Now Homespun Kitchen serves healthy food fast from breakfast through late night.

Meet the Business Owner: Aaron L.

Aaron, is an avid cyclist who has wanted to open healthy fast food restaurants since he was 15. After receiving his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Florida, Aaron went on to work as an engineer and IT professional for ten years, putting his dreams of healthy fast food on hold. When the economy took a dip and his IT salary was significantly adjusted, it was the catalyst to finally start pursuing his dream of opening healthy fast food restaurants. Not thinking he had enough experience to open his full concept, he and his wife Angela started by putting their own twist on frozen yogurt, a healthier dessert option. Now, Happy Cup has fully transformed into Homespun Kitchen, a place where people can get truly healthy food, for any meal, fast.

Cedar and Olive was a bit of a disappointment for me. The restaurant itself is very nice, with a clean, modern setup and an inviting atmosphere. I ordered the shish tawook and fattoush. Both tasted good, so the issue wasn't necessarily the quality of the food. It was the portions, pricing, and overall experience. For me, it felt like the gentrified version of Mediterranean food. Everything looked polished and was presented nicely, but some of the generosity and authenticity I associate with a great Mediterranean restaurant seemed to be missing. Mediterranean food is usually the type of meal where you leave full and satisfied. Here, I left wondering where the rest of my plate was. The shish tawook and fattoush were good, but for the price, the meal simply wasn't fulfilling enough. Customer Service was good, not stood out either good or bad. Nice restaurant, good food, and attractive presentation. But if I'm craving an authentic Mediterranean experience with generous portions and strong value, this probably wouldn't be my first choice.

If you can't find parking immediately at Sub Cultured, there's a little shopping center just next door since there doesn't seem to be much for street parking outside of their handful of spots. All of that said, I'm a transplant to Jacksonville via the Navy since 2004. One of the biggest cravings that I have from back home is a real authentic sausage, pepper, and onion grinder.
