My friends and I tried the trinity, brisket, Guadalupe, Emo's, and crispy potatoes with queso and honestly was pretty disappointed. The potatoes and the trinity tacos were EXTREMELY salty and almost inedible. On the other hand, even though the eggs were salty they were pretty well cooked and the queso was pretty good. It just seems like the entire batch of potatoes had way too much salt on it (both the taco potatoes and the separate order of potatoes were salty). Went in and ordered a potato taco. There were vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. The staff were friendly. There was a live band playing on the patio area. This was as a Saturday afternoon. Came here on NYE's day, was very much excited for a Tex mex type of place. The menu looked fantastic and the concept is great. Walking in here with an expectation of getting Torchys (franchise in TX) sadly it was far from it. I would describe the tacos as flavorless and bland. I've been to Austin multiple times, I appreciate the Texan culture and the food influenced by Mexican culture. I went into HomeState with pretty high expectations. First impressions, solid. Great setup, impressive, clean spot and good vibes from staff. The drip coffee was... let's add cream and lots of sugar. But we're here for the food. We ordered all the breakfast tacos to get a handle on the breakfast taco offerings. All of the bean breakfast tacos were undistinguishable. Okay, fine. The Trinity... okay, Pecos... not bad, a bit greasy... Guadalupe... also meh. Both the green and red salsas were mild at best. We wished they offered more spicy salsa options. We also got Chips and Queso. The queso, while not that spicy, was tasty but the chips were SALTY AF. Crispy Potatoes + queso... SAME, papas were SALTLY AF, like, drink 40oz of aqua immediately after. I'm happy to have HomeState in Oceanside, maybe I'll go back and try other dishes but I know my wife won't. Found Homestate via local IG foodies. The place was spotless and the cashier friendly. There were several customers both inside and outside. Its dog friendly patio is why I ultimately chose to eat at Homestate. Tried 3 breakfast tacos all with Flour tortillas (Don't mess with Texas, Trinity & Guadalupe) All good and worth reordering however my favorite was the Trinity. Unfortunately I ate it last and after 20 minutes of sitting outside, the potatoes were cold. Of course this was 100% my fault but I could see why others might rate Homestate lower than 5 stars. The cashier was very nice and gave us a number when we were done so we could go find a seat. They bring your food out to you when it's rea The food was a 3/5. This is a texmex style food place with offers breakfast burritos on your choice of flour or corn tortilla. The portions are not large at all. I would not recommend coming here if you are super hungry unless you want to order 6-10 tacos starting at $5 each. The ingredients were really high quality as they serve vital farm eggs and they make their tortillas onsite which are available for purchase by the dozen. The tortilla was good, but overall the tacos were nothing special and unimpressive. They give you two types of salsa on the side to use as your wish but there was no taco that came with avocado or anything like that. If you really wanted to you could buy the tortillas, and make your own breakfast tacos at home. My husband got 3 tacos and it didn't make a dent, I got two tacos and will probably be satisfied for about an hour before I have to eat again. We'd heard a lot about this place but unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. The food was OK but it's always a shame when you feel you need to slather your food in hot sauce for it to be flavorful. The picadillo taco was the worst of the bunch, bland (other than the pickles) and a mess. The brisket was flavorful (both in panthers and regular brisket) , and the chicken was somewhere in between (slightly dry and needed more seasoning). The trinity with its egg and bacon had lovely crunch from the bacon. We wished the guacamole had more acid (and the small size is indeed small but comes with a generous amount of chips) . First timer here! Opted for the Blanco breakfast taco- Chino Valley Farms organic egg whites, shiitake mushrooms, and Monterey Jack cheese on a flour tortilla. Also, it's vegetarian! To drink I had the Iced Summer tea- organic peach green tea with mint lemonade. The taco was ok, it was a bit bland...it needed some spice or seasonings to add some flavor. The South'O vibe is alive! Great food with lots of flavor, what's not there to like? The tacos are basically burritos.

Picked up Tijuana Panther and Brisket Taco. Overall enjoyed the TJ panther more. They are somewhat small so this could get pricey if you want to be full. I also picked up the Hibiscus Limeade. It looks pretty but is essentially a limeade(lemonade type drink) and is more lime tasting than sweet. Up to you if that's your taste. read more

Yay! I'm so glad I gave this place another chance because everything was delicious (and I got my iced coffee this time which was killer!) The bag was not greasy at all, the tacos were fresh and warm which made me happy. This time I got the chorizo taco and added some beans and potatoes (delicious) and the pecos taco again with added beans. Simply delicious. I got a coffee, and their breakfast tacos and the freshly made tortillas and fresh ingredients were exceptional.
