I heard so much hype about HomeState that my expectations were high. I was disappointed to find that the tacos were about the same level as what I would make at home. The only thing that made them slightly better were the housemade flour tortillas. Got a Guadalupe (eggs, chorizo, cheddar) which was mostly eggs and very light on the chorizo - so light that I couldn't even taste it. Also tried a chicken taco but the spicy anchiote marinade lacked any sort of kick. Overall, both tacos were bland and the salsas did little to offer much spice to them. My favorite were the crispy potatoes and lil' queso - kind of trashy cheese sauce but I don't make that stuff at home! In the unlikely event I order HomeState again, I'm going for the brisket taco - judging by the other reviews, it looks like it's the best thing on the menu! read more

Incredible. They are so fluffy and flavor full of we even got some on the side for the guac instead of using all the chips. Portions are a good size and every taco I've had here is flavorful, fresh, and loaded with the perfect amount of filling. The salsa they have is mild in spice but are both delicious. Even the strange combos are worth trying. Service: this is an order at the counter style restaurant. The staff are friendly and even check in on you in line and see if you need a menu. They are fast and efficient. Ambience: The restaurant is a nice size and well decorated. There's an open kitchen so you can watch the prep if you are into that. it's about time i wrote about HomeState's breakfast tacos. first off, my first encounter with HomeState was a to-go order from the LA location near Barnsdall Art Park. although i don't recall what my friend and i got.. i remember scarfing down my two tacos, some chips + queso, and half of my friend's Migas order (sorry Nat..) in record time. ya girl was HUNGRY. First tried their cookie at a job fair on-campus for Pasadena Community College. My mom and I did mobile order pick-up. Layout was a little confusing inside the restaurant that resulted in an awkward moment. I almost walked into the kitchen area as I followed the employee to pickup. More clear signage would have been nice but I could tell the restaurant was trying. The order was ready within the 20 minute window. Two orders of brisket quesadilla, one guadalupe with pico de gallo & egg, extra guacamole with chips buritto, extra pico de gallo, four chocolate chip cookies, extra green & red sauce and brisket burrito. Most of the order was complete except the guadalupe didn't have the egg. Inside sauce & toppings like the included guacamole & pico de gallo were pretty bare. I've heard great things about Homestate and finally got around to trying it. I got the chicken, potato, and trinity tacos along with a side of chips and queso. Surprisingly, my favorite of the three tacos was the chicken. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. As for the potato taco, the potatoes were masked by the spicy coleslaw. Lastly, the Trinity taco is overrated in my opinion. It's literally just eggs, cheese, and bacon. The side of chips and queso was not worth it. The queso was so bland I ended up adding the small side of red salsa into it, which made the queso 3x better. I do appreciate that they make their tortillas in house which is a nice touch. Who doesn't love Homestate?? I think my favorite taco is 'Don't Mess with Texas', then perhaps their potato taco, and their chicken taco. I do believe no matter the location you find yourself at, you will get good quality food. I have yet to be disappointed. I have never been for breakfast, but many of my friends enjoy their breakfast tacos. So, try them out any time of the day for some good food! I love their iced summer tea! read more

I love how spacious this location is. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outside on the patio. I have ordered takeout before and tried their "anytime tacos" but I was really looking forward to coming back for their breakfast tacos. HomeState is Tex-Mex inspired and you know what they say, everything is bigger in Texas (including these delicious tacos). I got the Trinity and Guadalupe. Between the two, Trinity was definitely my favorite. I think it's because they put their potatoes in that taco. Overall it has eggs, cheese, bacon, and crispy potatoes. Top it off with their green salsa and you are good to go! The Guadalupe was satisfying as well, it comes with chorizo instead of bacon (and no potatoes). I would recommend ordering a side of queso and potatoes and snacking on that before your tacos. So good!! Surprisingly, they also have house cocktails. On the menu, you can find margaritas, Palomas, and other drinks to quench your thirst. I went for a non-alcoholic traditional pineapple drink. What? Texas tacos in SoCal? To be honest a Texas taco is really a burrito and they are more different than similar. Just like trying to order a burrito in Yucatán, the looks I got, priceless. Homestate is true to its Texas roots and takes me right back to The Riverwalk in San Antonio. The tortilla, cabbage, and filling was spot on. I would have like to seen a puffy on the board. Food is amazing! So far everything we've tried has been great. But...I understand that using real dish-ware adds to the overhead, and I just don't like eating out of cardboard boxes like you get at a ballpark. Two of us paying $50 for a scramble and drinks left me wanting at least a large plate (paper is fine) as the little bowls are ridiculous. It's a 5-star place otherwise. Also, a nitpick - place the condiments and napkins, etc. in a better spot. I had to ask as did a bunch of others while we sat at the counter. So, breakfast tacos are with eggs, bacon, and you can choose corn or flour tortillas. They also have different types of meat. I've always wanted to try this place because of Buzzfeed and i'm never really a morning breakfast type of person... although, these are worth to try!! This Pasadena location did not open too long ago, which their parking situation is not too bad either. There is parking lot right in front of their restaurant and on the side on the way out. I came around 9:45am and there were plenty of seats available! I loved how open space and clean everything was, which I also really liked their outdoor patio too! The employees here were extremely nice as well. Through some Yelp research, it seemed like the brisket taco (all day taco) was one of their most popular ones, so I ordered that and a lil queso. A single tacos are quite big (for me at least since I'm so used to the street sized tacos) so this filled me up a good amount. The brisket was really soft and tender, the meat was great quality! The sauces that they offer you complement it really well too (I also liked how clean their sauce bottles were). Although, even though they may be famous for their tacos, I think actually liked their queso the most. I'm so used to "fake cheese" that once I tasted this one, I was like "wow this is real cheese" and it doesn't make you feel gross after eating so much chips and cheese. I was in full celebratory mode. It was my Summer Friday and I'd just donated my 80th pint of blood to the Red Cross. I was super stoked to find out that HomeState had opened a brand new Pasadena location, and see that they open at 8A. Does it get much better? Yes, yes it does. Not only do they open at 8A, they start serving frozen margs at 8A. It was a few minutes before 10A when I arrived and spotted the frozen margie machine beside the cash register. In normal Cands fashion I immediately asked what time they start serving these ;) that's when I received the good news. Not only is my celebratory brekke going to consist of the perfect summer patio with the best country tunes and some queso cheese dip, it's also going to be accompanied by an adult bevvie. The space is gorgeous! They didn't spare any details in making the place super communal, welcoming, and friendly. The staff were all superb! The little details in the decor stand out in a huge way. I ordered a small frozen marg, with a spicy rim, topped with a little bit of spicy paloma. I also ordered the small queso dip and three tacos. The Trinity, Pecos, and Blanco. All three were super delish! I brought some queso dip, chips, and my brisket taco to go- and later shared them with a friend. I enjoyed the two lighter tacos there. The patio was already the place to be by 10A on a Friday morning, there were a few spots up for grabs but a good amount of people, relaxing, enjoying and working from here. The vibe is just right! I can see where this place is going to be super busy if it isn't already. They are now open their regular hours. The patio is pet friendly, the frozen margs do the trick, the homemade flour tortillas are soooo good, the tacos are delish, the queso hits just right, service is top notch, space is calm, yet energetic in it's own way and everything is all around 5 STAR. If you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for?! I'd highly recommend a visit and can't wait to return. The parking lot is a bit small, I grabbed a spot but I can see where this may fill up quickly- unless they have an additional lot to the right that I may have missed. Got Homestate tacos for a work event and came back for more with a friend! I ordered online. The process was quick, easy, and the system texted me to tell me my tacos are ready to be picked up at the "pick up" line. I went in, went to the pick up line, told the team member my name, and was done! We got 2 Trinity Tacos, 2 Brazos Tacos, and 2 Brisket Tacos. It came with 2 green and 2 red salsas to put on. I wish the salsas were spicier! I couldn't get too much of a spice kick. All the tacos were delicious and wonderfully made with care. This restaurant recently opened. There is parking on the side and rear end of the restaurant, and street parking. We parked in a neighborhood nearby, and walked a short distance to the restaurant. The wait wasn't too bad. They offer umbrellas for you to hold if you want some shade. There's a menu posted on the wall, and a worker was handing out menus to those in line. We decided to dine in. Outdoor seating is also offered in the patio. The restaurant was nicely decorated inside, with lots of plants and decorations. There was a space to grab your own water. The tables are picnic tables. There's a to go pick up area. If you decide to dine in the restaurant, a worker will bring out your food to you. One important note: order the queso to dip your breakfast tacos in! We were able to order it with the worker who handed us our food. I thought that was cool we could pay at our table, since we forgot to order it at the cash register. I wasn't a fan of the brisket tacos. I found the brisket to be lacking in flavor. The Pecos taco does get soggy because of the brisket. I enjoyed the trinity taco. The bacon and potatoes were crispy. Dipping this in the queso tied it all together. The Blanco taco was tasty and felt clean. I preferred the green sauce over the red sauce. More flavor in green sauce. I literally would not change a single thing on the potato taco aka it is perfection. Their tortillas are chefs kiss. The frozen marg is also one of the best I've had, unlike some places that put barely any alcohol and just tastes like an overly sweet frozen slushie. The queso chips are also a strong side. The staff was super attentive making frequent rounds and asking if we wanted refills on any drink orders and even water. They cleared our tables for us and were always checking in to make sure we had everything and were comfortable. Exsqueeze me am I at a 5 star restaurant? Yesterday miry was my first time at Homestate with my family. The first impression that I got was a good one. The staff is genuinely helpful and the set up is really cool. My family and and I got a bunch of food. Overall, it's definitely Tex Mex. I don't think you should go in thinking you're having Mexican. The food is cool, my favorite taco was the one with soyrizo. The potatoes are really good as well. Those two items are recommended! I ordered a Cookie Milk iced coffee and it tasted like a regular iced coffee. So much more convenient than HP location! It's no secret I love HomeState. I'm obsessed with the ranch waters & the potatoes and queso + the Tijuana panthers! I always want to try something new but I never do lol. On days I don't free like a drink (rare), the iced tea is really good and I recently found out... free refills if you eat there! I tend to visit midday when it's less crowded. Times I've come earlier - around 12 - the line to order gets long and the parking situation is nonexistent if you can't find something in the lot. One thing that is really annoying is people tend to not know what they want to order 90% of the time when they get to the register. It ends up making the line 10x longer. Maybe HomeState needs to put the menus by the door instead of the counter next to the register? Not really sure what the solution is but it very agitating to have to wait forever to order because people haven't looked at the menu yet. The prices on the app are more expensive so that option is out. read more

Came here for breakfast on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and I particularly enjoyed the music - definitely very Texas. I ordered the Guadalupe, Trinity, and lil queso. The Guadalupe has eggs, chorizo, and cheddar cheese. The Trinity has eggs, bacon, potato, and cheddar cheese. Both were tasty and worth it at $3.75 each. They give you a red and green sauce to drizzle on the tacos and they are very flavorful with distinct taste differences. Both are mild and very well made, but I like the green sauce better. The lil queso was tasty and smooth, but as someone who isn't a diehard queso fan, I would say it isn't worth the $4. Also, I had a couple of tortilla chips that was loaded with salt and made the experience kinda bad. I would prefer a saltless tortilla chip option. If you're not in love with queso, you can probably skip this and not regret it. A big bonus is the vegetarian options. There's a lot to choose from, so I'll definitely be bringing my vegetarian relatives when they visit next time. About that parking. I'm glad it's free, but if you're not paying attention, you could miss the turn to get into it. Also, parking space is limited and compact and shared with 2-3 other stores. The corn tortillas were definitely my favorite of the two types. I loved the Trinity taco and it was easily the best of the 3 I ordered. They do their breakfast tacos and potato so well as a true Tex-max place! I would recommend one of those for your first time here. I also ordered the guac and chips. Met a friend here for brunch, it was a solid decision. You order at the register and then have a seat. I had the Tijuana Panther (crispy potatoes with brisket and queso) on a corn tortilla and it was just so tasty. Also tried the Trinity which was eggs, bacon, potatoes and cheddar. I opted for a flour tortilla this time. The amount of egg they put in there was great and again, another tasty taco. Red and green salsa can with the order and both tasted delicious. Last week friends suggested we meet up there and I'm so glad they did because it was so tasty. We've already been back once since then. I love the Fort Worth taco! I absolutely love Home State! It would describe it as a Tex-Mex/Cali fusion - and I love everything about Texas so this hits the spot for me. They make fresh flour tortillas daily and they are AMAZING!! We came here early on a Saturday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. We were able to get a table inside, but they also offer a large and beautiful patio for seating as well. I got the Trinity taco and my husband ordered the Pecos taco. WOW WOW WOW!!
