4.5 They have a location in Industry City, but read this is the original. (Anyway, made it our first destination for our Red Hook day). From the entrance, we joined the line to place our order. Menus posted on the wall. Music playing. Bar area, self-serve water dispenser, utensils/napkins, to-go containers (which we did need) are in this area. One of two dining areas is in the same room. Longer tables, some communal, are in the next room, where we sat. Temp that day was in the 90s, was ok indoors but still could use ceiling fan/s like in the first room. Restrooms available. Meats are priced by 1/2 lb. Carved and weighed at the front counter. Ordered everything else and paid there too. Most of the food was prepped as we ordered so able to take a whole tray already. So be ready for a bit of wait on the line but not in getting the food. Got a number and someone brought our jerk rib tips, which were made-to-order. Our favorite was the brisket - very tender with some fatty parts. Pulled pork was slightly sweet, was ok. I wasn't into the Jerk rib tips' flavor by itself, but was better with ranch dressing it came with. Meats were not so salty which was great. Can add the bbq sauces if wanted. Fritos pie was just a small bag of chips with toppings and was overall a bit salty for me. At least we got to taste their chili. For sides: Large size @$12-13 is not that large but ok for sharing if getting a few sides. We liked the vinegary mashed potato salad and mac and cheese. My family found the collard greens bitter but I liked them. Honey cornbread $7/square was sweet on the top. Want to try other things on the menu so for next time. Take Bus 61 at Boerum Pl/Joralemon St. to Van Brundt St/Beard St stop (bus is accessible from a few subway lines).
Ordered: Stiegl Goldbrau Lager Pint (~$9): 5% from Salzburg, Austria 1/2 Pound Brisket (~$22) Pastrami Sandwich (~$32): on rye bread with brown deli mustard Small Mac & Cheese (~$8): w parmesan breadcrumbs Small Hometown Slaw (~$7) Aya's take: There's definitely a shortage of proper BBQ in NYC but the line is just a bit too much. I arrived & joined the line at 12:05pm on a Sunday (5 mins after opening) and waited until 1:10pm before ordering. The line is deceiving since more than half of it was inside but I didn't realize how far it extends to the register where you actually order. There was around 40 people waiting when I got there...again, 5 minutes after opening. Anyway, I committed to the line and realize it's wildly inefficient. There's only 1-2 people taking orders and 2-4 different workers standing around or doing something occasionally. They really have to figure out how to reduce these inefficiencies, at least on weekends. Now for the food, it's definitely amazing for NYC standards but not quite as good as Texas, in my opinion. The Brisket had some tender & juicy bites which I loved but most of it was on the dry/lean side. I wish the worker asked us for our preference. The Pastrami Sandwich was a good try and only available on weekends. The meat is smoky and savory, and tangy from the brown deli mustard. I actually loved their Mac & Cheese! It was so creamy, cheesy, and satisfying. Even the Hometown Slaw was just right. Not too creamy, not too vinegary, and gave us a fresh bite to cut through all the savory meat. The worker was nice enough to give me some pickled onions which I absolutely love with my BBQ. I wish they had some more local beer options but the Stiegl Goldbrau Lager Pint was great to sip on as someone who likes light & refreshing beers. Despite the atrocious wait time, I'm really glad I got to try it!
Will always be my top 3 for BBQ in Brooklyn. Yes there's a line. Yes it's worth the wait. Yes we stood in the rain but the wait wasn't too long this time. I have waited longer. I love that they now take your drink orders while you wait. Great for groups. Great for dates. Really awesome with family
Parking is limited nearby so I'd start browsing for a spot few blocks out if you're driving. Place gets packed on the weekend, line was around the corner moving relatively fast but not fast enough when you're baking in the sun in July heat. The line is usually only for food, bar is open for drinks and water which was a huge plus. Drinks were decent but overpriced, bartender selectively friendly. Plenty of sitting room, only few tables outside but there's indoor sitting in the front and additional back room. We got brisket (.6lbs) , spare ribs (.75lbs), corn bread, and sides of Mac & cheese, Texas style pinto beans, hometown slaw and backyard potato salad. Meat was really good, our batch was cooked and seasoned just right, a bit expensive for the quantity it ended up being but definitely passing quality expectations. Corn bread was amazing and I'm not even a fan of it in general but theirs was definitely the best I've had. Potato salad (mash!), Mac & cheese and slow was awesome parings for the meat, fresh and flavorful. Beans were too spicy and watery for our liking. Overall it's a good spot for bbq meat and we'll be back again to try other menu items.
Very good bbq. Not many places can do bbq well in nyc. This is one of the best in nyc for brisket. The brisket was very tender but is on the bland. They sprinkle salt on top but could have used more. The ribs were average. Mac and cheese was good. It is mostly self service.
Absolutely delicious food. In particular the beef rib, Mac and cheese, and queso were great. Brisket and corn bread were good as well. Such a cool space with good service as well. Pickles were much needed since the food is very heavy. We waited about 30-45 minutes on Sunday around lunch. Unfortunately they were sold out of the lamb bahn mi.
Enjoyed the food here a lot. Corn bread was outstanding but so buttery. Brisket was goo, but wished it wasn't chopped up so much. Tried to get pastrami but it sold out. Place was clean. Outdoor seating is available.
Hometown Bar-B-Que (Red Hook, Brooklyn) If you're a BBQ lover in NYC, Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook is an absolute must. This place delivers real smoke, real flavor, and that no-nonsense Texas-style authenticity that's hard to find anywhere else in the city. From the moment you walk into the rustic, warehouse-style space at 454 Van Brunt St, you know you're in for something serious. The smell alone will make you hungry. I ordered the brisket, beef rib, and jerk baby back ribs, and each one was perfect in its own way. The brisket melts in your mouth with that beautiful bark and smoke ring. The beef rib is massive, tender, and full of deep smoky flavor. And the jerk ribs are a killer twist spicy, sweet, and unbelievably juicy. Their sides are no afterthought either--mac and cheese, baked beans, and collards were all on point. The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and even if there's a line, it moves fast and it's 110% worth the wait. Red Hook might be a little out of the way, but Hometown makes the trip feel like a pilgrimage. This is hands-down one of the best BBQ spots in New York City. I'll definitely be back again (and again). Highly recommend. Five stars all the way.
Really well loved and I was excited to finally go here for a friends birthday. Overall I do think the food is great but woof the line is insane. Why is there only one point of sale for a spot that constantly has a line out the door? This is good bbq but for nyc I fear you could probably find something just as good. Spent 1.5 hours in line for brisket and mac and cheese and I really liked the food, just didn't enjoy the wait. The brisket is juicy and well cooked. They were out of sandwiches so I went with the tacos. Tried my friend's cornbread and it was really nice, sweet, and moist.
Overall solid delicious bbq place and line moves pretty quickly. I really enjoyed the brisket , chicken wings, potato salad, and corn bread with honey and salt. I asked to do 1/4 brisket because I wanted to try it but didn't want to commit to 1/2 pound. Would not recommend it bc they cut the brisket thinner so it dries out faster. Overall, would recommend!
NYC sorely needs a competent BBQ joint and Hometown isn't it. came here on the Sunday before Memorial Day around 6pm-ish and we waited in line for about two hours. while we were waiting, there's a staff going down the line taking drink orders. it was a genius business idea really. after making our way to the meat counter, we ordered half a pound each of ribs (dry, but tender), pulled pork (incredibly bland and fatty, how could that be? tbh, i feel like i have made better pulled pork at home.), brisket (again, incredibly dryyyy like the Sahara and tough too). for the sides, we got the mac & cheese (decent), collard greens (not bad), and the highlight was definitely the cornbread. it was buttery and sweet! loved it. honestly, this place is incredibly overrated. even tho NYC is not known to have a great BBQ scene, we should not be hyping up mid-spots like this like it's the best establishment to have graced god's green earth. it was waste of time and money for sure.
An institution in the Red Hook neighborhood, Hometown is one of the top BBQ spots in NYC. We came for a quick snack and ordered 1/2 pound of the brisket. At $22 for 1/2 pound, it's definitely on the pricier end but the meat is smoked fresh and worth the price. Didn't try anything else here but I'd be back to try the ribs and pastrami bacon.
Probably it is the best BBQ place in NYC. Of course, it is taxes level of BBQ, but the line is insanely long, we arrived around 20 minutes after the restaurant just opened, but still spent 1.5 hours to get Recommended pork belly and brisket!

It's been a while since I've visited Hometown Bar-B-Que. It's the best BBQ spot in Brooklyn. Everything is so well prepared and delicious. I ordered the Pastrami sandwich, Brisket, Potato Salad, Macaroni and Cheese, Cole Slaw and Beans. I enjoyed everything. I didn't finish all of my food and I took the rest home. It was busy but the line moves efficiently. The workers are helpful and professional. I would definitely come back anytime I'm in the area. I'll also tell everyone I know about this place. read more
I am admittedly not a huge BBQ fan and this was not our first choice for lunch (we tried two other restaurants with enormous waits but were already in Redhook so leaving would have taken a ton of time before getting lunch). It was a lovely surprise. For one, the wait was so short. Plenty of open walk in tables and ordering was a breeze. I will say the food is pricey-even for BBQ meat. So we were a bit limited in what we ended up getting. Ordered a beef rib for $40: why it's so expensive I will never know. I do wish we were given real knives to cut it off the rib but once you get it off with the plastic knife you never want to stop. Brisket sandwich: maybe one of the best sandwiches I've ever had? I'm not even sure why. The onions were so well cooked and the bread just perfect for this occasion. Must try. Pastrami sandwich: was super excited to get this and was told after we ordered it was sold out. Bummer. Cornbread: I probably would never have ordered this if I hadn't witnessed the previous orders having theirs coated with a honey sauce that made it look heavenly. And it tasted so. Got a short rib to go-pumped to have it for dinner. Super happy that you are able to get to-go containers of their BBQ sauce as I really did find these to be surprisingly delicious. Would I drive out to Redhook again just for this? No. But if I lived here this would be a local rotation. read more
This place came highly recommended and it's clear everyone else in Brooklyn seemed to have also got the same recommendation because the line was around the block! I'm not usually one to see a line and say "yeah, sure whatever" but this was a rare occasion where I was willing to wait. The line moved fairly quickly and once we figured out we weren't just waiting for a table but to actually place an order an immediately be served, we were game. And then when we figured out we could order drinks and imbibe while we waited? Well, then we were game AND tipsy. The margaritas were a solid choice to enjoy while waiting. They also have beer too. Once we got to the front, we ordered so much freakin' BBQ. Brisket, smoked turkey, pulled pork, wings, bacon, and ribs. Plus baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, mac and cheese, cornbread, and banana pudding. Goddamn, everything was fantastic. The Korean sticky ribs were delicious and definitely very sticky. The Vietnamese hot wings were extremely hot and even though I love spicy food (usually can tolerate a level 2 or 3 at Vietnamese restaurants) it was actually a little too hot for me because of how long the spice lingered. Oh, we also got the pastrami bacon and it probably was the best piece of meat I've ever eaten in my life. You MUST get the bacon. I really like how this spot doesn't just have traditional BBQ but also incorporates a fusion of Vietnamese, Korean, and Latin fare (they have both tacos and bao buns on the menu, not something I've ever seen at another BBQ spot). One thing about me... I love bbq and this spot was so delicious!! Shout out to Zeke who took my order!!!! His personality definitely made the experience that much more enjoyable The menu was a little intimidating- stared at it for probably five minutes before deciding what to get. My friend and I came and we wanted to try most things. Our platter came out to $170. Here's my top three: Brisket - so tender, perfectly seasoned Mac & cheese - cheese to pasta ratio was perfect and the parm bread crumbs created the best texture Corn bread w/ honey butter - super moist, super buttery The beef rib was the main reason why I decided to visit this restaurant because I saw a guy eating it and it looked insane. Safe to say, it is insane because it's huge!!!!!! It falls off the bone ($40/lb - definitely a hefty price tag) The pulled pork and spare ribs weren't my favorite bc I didn't think it stood out to me when comparing with other spare ribs/pulled pork that I've had My least favorite had to be the potato salad. Was really disappointed bc I usually love potato salad. It was more mashed potato than chunks of potato. Also super tart. I thought it would be good to eat between the meats to cut the oiliness but it was still too tart for me :( Banana pudding was yummy! Deff recommend if you like banana and are down for a sweet treat I loved their hot & sweet sauce. I don't have a spice tolerance and this sauce had the perfect kick to it. They also have a self serve station for free water :) They had live music playing in one section but you can always sit in the other section if you prefer less noise. the food was utterly amazing. It feel like my soul transcended to a new presence of being after eating here. the service was very fast, because they serve it up to you as you order it. the place is great too-many ambient lights on the ceiling and a lot of seating. the tables are oak and there is patriotic flags of the United States of America all over. read more

Came on a Saturday around 2pm. The line was long even on an off hour. Maybe waited around 30 minutes before getting to order. Luckily, there was a beverage company outside doing a promotion of their product and was handing out free snow cones to beat the summer heat. There were already a few things that were sold out for the day. Brisket was good, super tender and well seasoned. We ordered a sausage, but they gave us the wrong kind. Ended up with the jalapeño cheddar. While it was good and had a good bite, I would've wanted to try the other one. Jerk rib tips had a good flavor but very chewy. Considering they were rib tips, I was expecting it to be more tender. Pastrami bacon was so good. I loved the sauce that came with it. The smoke on it was perfect. Korean sticky ribs were quite small. While they were flavorful, they weren't fall off the bone. The vast amount of green onions were appreciated. Texas chili was good. I appreciated the amount of meat in it. Collard greens were very tasty. I would get this side again especially to have something other than meat. Cornbread could've been more moist. The prices are quite steep, but Hometown Bar-B-Que is one of the better BBQ places that I've tried in NYC. read more
This some darn good Texas Style bbq. Perhaps the best you can find north of the carolinas. Each time that I have been, i have been impressed with the bark, the flavors, and just overall experience. The menu does a great job representing the various cultures in brooklyn so although if is texas style bbq, you gon get a sprinkle of diversity with everything. Customers are fortunate to have such a luxurious experience with barbecue here. I mean yall get to wait outside with lots of seating available and then once inside even more seating and a full service bar ! it is obvious that the owners wanted to provide an environment that could be enjoyed by all. Yeah thats real nice! Just dont expect that level of hospitality at the texas bbq joints in texas. read more
Rating: 3.5 It's a big trek to get to this place, but I finally made up my mind to go here. It's cool inside, but there's no AC (only fans), which was a bit rough since I happened to go on a really hot summer day. We ordered the brisket and the Korean ribs, with a side of mac & cheese and a slice of cornbread and unfortunately the food generally fell flat. The brisket was really dry; it felt like it had been sitting out for a while. We needed to douse it with sauce. The mac and cheese wasn't the best - the queso on top was the only source of flavor and there wasn't enough of it. The korean ribs were good but not mindblowing. The best part of the meal was the cornbread, which was sweet and moist. I was hoping I would like this place a lot more given it was so hard to get to, but still glad I was able to check it out. read more
Would come back here solely for the mac & cheese and cornbread because they were so good. We came a little after 8pm on a Friday and there was quite a wait. I'd recommend having one person wait in line and order while the other gets drinks and a table. Once you order, food is ready fast. It does feel very hometown-esque with the outdoor picnic table seating. My boyfriend got the brisket sandwich and did enjoy it but agreed the mac and cheese and cornbread were definitely the highlights of the meal. Potato salad could be skipped. read more
Suuuuuch incredible BBQ. It is worth the long wait to get in. The Mac n cheese and cornbread were truly incredible and something I'll dream about for ages. I also was very into the brisket and KBBQ ribs. Pro tip: the line for food is long so prepare accordingly. Go with a friend and have someone hold your spot in line while a friend gets you beverages to wait in line and/or saves a table for your party while you wait in line to order. read more

The best barbecue place I have been to in New York absolutely the best came here to celebrate my cousins's birthday before my other cousin had to go to the airport. It was so good. We got a pound of brisket banana pudding. Buffalo cauliflower which looks like actual buffalo wings a beef rib Three pastrami bacon slices Mac & cheese turkey 2 spiked apple ciders with bourbon The birthday boy had a beer forgot what kind but it is from a distillery in Williamsburg. Look, maybe I was a bit too harsh in a previous BBQ review, but it is true. Southern states do BBQ right. BBQ is a way of life down there. It is an art form, perfected, tried, and perfected again. The grill a canvas, the meat the artwork. You need love, hear, patience, and a certain ruggedness to make it work. Without any of those things, the product falls apart, and left with a piece of meat that leaves more to be desired. Hometown BBQ in Red Hook tried really hard to replicate those southern vibes. It really does. The problem is because it tries too hard, the product does lack, but comes super close to being one that is worthy of substance and value. I got three meats, and three sides for lunch, and sure, this was not cheap, but it offers more than just food, it offers an experience. It almost looks like you are eating in an old barn near the docks, so the experience is a bit awkward at best, trying to appeal southern vibes in a northern setting. The three meats I got were beef ribs, beef brisket, and sausage. At first I absolutely loved the meat. It was fatty, fall off the bone tender, juicy, all around great rub and seasoning, until a few bites in and I noticed something was amiss. The meat is overly salted. I complained about that and another customer who saw me said the same thing. You could actually see the salt crystals on the meat. It made it very unappealing and could not eat all the meat because of it. This was upsetting because the meat has tons of potential to be amazing, but had to let it go to waste because of the oversalting. On the contrary, the sides are absolutely fantastic. I got the pinto beans, mac n cheese, and a piece of cornbread. All of them were delicious and not devoid of any flavor. They had the perfect amount of flavor and the portion backed it up. This was my saving grace to this lunch. I am giving it a four star review even though the meat was more along the lines of three stars. This is based on hoping this was a fluke and future visits can learn how not to overdo the salt and just let it do its thing. read more
An excellent (if oddly remote) barbecue spot that deserves positive attention; the brisket was excellent, but the gimmicky other dishes (particularly the pastrami bacon) were a tad overpriced. This is counter service. The meat is so good you do not need sauce. My friends enjoyed the sides, but I stuck to meat. read more
If you live in NYC and are craving some BBQ, definitely give this spot a try! I'm not an expert with BBQ and don't eat it very often, but this was up there with some of the best BBQ I've had. I really enjoyed the brisket sandwich and it felt like a generous amount of freshly cut meat. Great casual vibe inside with a good deal of seating and 2 bars. read more

A bit expensive, everyone's meal came out to $45 ish and we were still hungry. Quality wasn't the best, felt a little dry and not that tasty without sauce. It kind of is in middle of nowhere so for the travel it's a little dissapointing Place is spacious and they have tvs with live sports Only service is you ordering and they bring it to your table. Had friends visiting from Korea, so I wanted them to try "American BBQ". After searching different locations, went with Hometown due to their menu selection options. Interior is divided into two areas - one side had the kitchen/bar - each operates separately. You order your food and pay, then you order your drink and pay. The other half was more quiet, which is where we sat. On this side, one corner by the entrance was setup for live band and they had another bar on this section - which wasn't open when we visited. Got the 1/2 lbs each of brisket, spare ribs and beef rib, got 3 Korean Sticky Ribs with large greens, small mac & cheese, corn bread and pinto beans, banana pudding... add some drinks to that and at the end of the day our total came out to $250 with tips. This was the most expensive bbq meal I ever had in my life lol Our favorite was the beef rib. We liked that it was meaty, juicy and the meat was very tender. It was market price and we were quoted $40/lbs and yeah, it was the most expensive item in our order. It also didn't help that the 50% of the item was heavy bone, but it was worth trying at least once. Spare ribs were decent, the Korean sticky ribs were ok... I had expected more Korean flavor, but the taste was your standard Asian bbq sauce. The briskets were ok as well, bit dried to our taste. Greens were decent, could have used more seasoning, the corn bread was bit dried, pinto beans were good, however the mac & cheese was disappointing. Mac & Cheese was dried & didn't have that cheesy gooeyness that I was expecting. As for the banana pudding, it was good. While their bbq menu options were more than I had expected, didn't walk away wowed by the food. But that doesn't mean, I won't be back. I'll need to try their other offerings, like the taco and sandwiches. read more

Food was soooo good, all of this food was less than 100 dollars and made both me and my girlfriend very satisfied! Usually modern New York City restaurants charge you out the wazoo for a tiny bowl, but this was well worth the wait. The meat was tender and flavorful, the sauces added some variety to the bites, the collard greens smacked, the mac and cheese was heavy and creamy, and the Vietnamese hot wings were the best part! Be warned! Get there the moment it opens, you'll still be waiting in a line but I'm sure you'd rather wait 30 minutes than over an hour. read more

3 words, JERKED RIB TIPS if you don't get anything else trust me when I say you NEED those rib tips!! The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious. The service (there is a wait but it's worth it) was very good as well. To be as busy as they were the employees were all VERY friendly. The ambience is very much hometown back yard BBQ with great throwback R&B/Soul music. What we ordered was the rib tips, spare ribs, pulled pork, potato salad, mack and cheese and I had them Throw some of the pickled onions on top of the pulled pork. Rib tips...yes. They are seasoned to perfection. Before you taste them the smell captivates you IMMEDIATELY. It comes with a side of sauce kind of like tzatziki to cleanse your tongue from the kick of the sauce. It's delicious. The spare ribs tasted like your favorite peppered bacon and your favorite rib had a baby. They were tender and delicious and 5/5 would eat again. NO BBQ sauce is needed. Pulled pork, delicious. Full of flavor, very juicy, would order again. The potato salad. Also another banger!! It's more like mashed potatoes honestly but it's DELICIOUS. The dill in there compliments it so well. The honey cornbread. Also DELICIOUS you get a nice thick slice and they lather it up in the house honey butter...I wanted to be a cornbread. Would buy again. The mac was the least favorite for me. The cheese sauce could've been thicker and it needed a little more seasoning. I added some of the peppered rib tips to the Mac and it took it up a level. It's always a great day when I get to go to Hometown. This time, we tried the lamb Bahn mi in addition to the brisket, bacon and the spare ribs. Everything was incredible, especially when paired with the BBQ sauces. Of the meat we got this trip, I would say the brisket was my favorite!! read more
Spare ribs were outstanding today with the coating and flavor; succulence was otherworldly. Beef ribs and brisket were similarly sublime. In light of the Olympics, a large screen offered live coverage and additional entertainment. read more

Update: Second time here: the BBQ was dry this time. Both the turkey and the brisket. The beef rib was fine. However, this place is inconsistent. First time was great, second time was a miss. Unfortunate and unforgivable. While in line I wrote: Best BBQ in the area, but I can't deal with the hour plus wait. I've worked retail before, so believe me when in say the liberties the workers take behind the counter are insane. They are so slow and inefficient. Unfortunately, a new good BBQ joint is unlikely to open, so they can take as many liberties as they please. read more

Arguably one of the best BBQ spots in New York in general. And honestly, you cannot really miss with anything on the menu. One of my favorites has to be the cauliflower wings, so good. And what is not spoken about enough in this place is the banana pudding. Perfect way to finish off your meal, perfection. And the CORN BREAD. The energy in here is so warm and comfortable. You'll feel right at home when eating here which is something you really don't experience too much. Staff is also amazing and is willing to answer any questions you may have about the menu. Without a doubt, one of the spots you go out of your way for and don't mind whatever sort of wait there is. You will leave here feeling stuffed and starting to plan your next trip as you're eager to try something different on their menu. read more

Delivers on the hype. I had the pastrami sandwich, 2 beers, and a small coleslaw on a lazy summer Friday afternoon. Pastrami sandwich itself was spectacular. Buttered rye bread toasted on the griddle, moist & fatty pastrami, and a touch of brown mustard. This was one of the more delicious sandwiches I have ever eaten. Beers were fresh and good selection. Great brisket and ribs. Great flavor profile on the ribs and briskets. No need for sauce on the ribs, they do add a sprinkle of sea salt which was interestingly added slight hydration to the brisket and taste. Ribs were good, but for some reason they warm them up in the inside open oven. Pudding was great. The place is on par for pricing with the greats. Cost me $56 for what I got, seen others bills in the lower $100s. I would give this place a 8.9/10. The gold standard is Lewis BBq, and this is up there but not quite Lewis. Finally made it to Hometown after my most recent IKEA trip. IKEA is super out of the way to me so I was honestly surprised to see Hometown so packed. There was at least 100 people in there on a rainy winter day and probably 20+ on the line to order. They use a fast casual system so you make your order get a number and just find a place to sit. You have to go to the bar to order drinks. The saving grace about the long line is you can totally get a drink while you wait and it gives you enough time to decide what you want because there ate a lot of appetizing options. I order for two people, brisket sandwich with pastrami Bacon, beef rib, 3 chicken wings side of small coleslaw, 2 sides cornbread and a small side of mac and cheese. Not gonna hold you I was pretty surprised it ran me $150 lol. Granted the beef rib was $63 this food can get expensive quick. That said it was pretty good. The rib with their sweet spicy sauce drizzled is delicious and more than enough for 1 person. The wings were tasty too. I wouldnt order any of the sides again besides the cornbread. Bartenders were pretty talented. Made good drinks so thats a plus. The meat and hometown is worth a visit. The everything else (sides) are pretty unremarkable. Came in with some friends on a Saturday afternoon and was prepared to stand in line. The wait was about 40 minutes but it went by pretty quick since we were able to grab drinks at the bar and sip while perusing the menu. By the time I got to the front I was told they ran out of rolls for my pulled pork sandwich, but they were really sweet and made my sandwich with a baguette instead! Honestly, it might've made the sandwich even better. My friends got the wings, which were big and delicious! My other friend got one big beef rib! We jokingly called it a dinosaur rib because it was so big. We shared the Mac n cheese and it paired perfectly with everything. Definitely don't leave without the banana pudding. Are you guys doing lamb belly or the beef ribs on weekends?
Beef Ribs are only available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hometown's specialty offerings (like the lamb belly), come and go from the menu so it's best to check their website before you go. I've never had the lamb belly, but the beef rib is heaven.
Are they dog friendly?
Previous answers are outdated- since pandemic, they have added picnic tables outside, which you can definitely enjoy with your dog. Dogs are not allowed inside the premises, just like anyplace in NYC that serves food, but the outdoor tables are fine…
Do they cook the meat well done?
Meat is slow Cooked for 24 hours, no need to do it well done. You won't find any meat blood in it. It's just all the spoces and smoky flavor
How long would the wait be on a Saturday around 3-4pm?
Hit or Miss some times a few minutes 20-30 or even up to an hour
How is the parking situation? Is the neighborhood safe?
You can find parking. Yea... it's next to a fairway in RedHook so I'd say it's pretty safe.
How long do you expect the wait to usually be late afternoon on a Sunday (~2pm)?
30-40 min wait. Best to come at noon when it opens since after 1, families take over and not many tables are available
Do they sell there BBQ sauce? Also any chance they have a meat substitute.. burger or something as an alternative to meat?
They don't sell their sauce but they do offer you to take it home, they leave out small containers to fill it in. They do not have a meat substitute.
Is there waiter service?
No its cafeteria style, so you go to the counter, get your food and find a seat.
Are you open on July 4th?
They certainly are. My review was from July 4th. Watch out though, they run out of food on the holidays they are open and the line was down the block. Worth the wait though!
