Even the ceiling and walls are disgustingly dirty at Hometowne Studios in Salem.

Lived here for a month, and if I could give it less then 1 star I would. It feels like this place was perfectly created to exploit you in every possible way. From their rewards program where your incentive to sign up is (and I'm not even kidding) a FREE bottle of water, to the scam of the 'free hi-speed internet', they try to gouge every penny out of you - while also delivering the worst possible everything. What they mean by 'free hi-speed' internet is actually 'dial-up speed unless you pay to have dial-up+ speed'. I can see the confusion, they are almost similar. The free 'hi-speed' speed is 2 MBps... Average high speed in America? 94 MBps. But if you want, you can pay $25 (for EACH device) to increase that to..drum roll.. 4 MBps! So you can still be 4% than the national average. Yay exploitation. Moving on to the room, this beautiful cubicle of doom... The moment you walk in you can smell the 10 years of prostitutes and death. You'll immediately see a wavey sand dune they call a 'bed'. After you kill the first half dozen bugs (I'm not joking at all, we killed dozens of spiders and other various bugs while we were here), you'll move through the 'kitchen' - check the sink, ours clogged 8 times. It also features a small stovetop that takes an unreasonably long time to heat up, even on the highest setting. Next, move into the bathroom and make sure you grab photos of the cigarette stained ceiling so you don't get a $250 fee when you are let go from this prison. Also, there are no animals allowed, but you'll step in dog shit. There's also no smoking allowed, but you'll absolutely see dozens of cigarette butts and large clouds of smoke from the walk from your car to your room even though it's only 4 feet. And we haven't even gotten started on some of the high-class clientele that take residence in one of the cells of Poverty-Inn. It's always nice to wake up to an electric saw cutting wood 4 feet from your door or being woken up every 20 minutes to someone listening to music that's only comprised of bass at max setting and have the walls literally shake like your in the middle of The Wizard of Oz.. But alas, when you are not being woken up by that, or the live orgies your cubicle is surrounded by, you can do some research to figure out where the fuck your life went wrong for you to stay at a wretched place like this.

This is likely the worst hotel in the city. The place is run down on the outside and there appear to be people living in cars and RVs in the parking lot. Just walking into the room made me feel like I was likely going to catch something, yet to be identified by scientists. There was blood splatters on the walls and floor, tooth paste on the door and hair and urine on the bathroom floor. We immediately exited the room, wiping our feet on the way out, and booked another hotel. We will be working on getting our money back. Anyone who reviews this above a zero must normally live in a third world shanty. The only reason one would stay here is to set up their breaking bad style meth lab. Walking in a room will require multiple showers and a hazmat decon. Avoid this place at all costs.

Desk was great, lots of room with a large additional rolling table for more space if needed. (I did move a lamp to the desk for more light) Mattress/pillows-5-Very comfortable bed, could have used a firm pillow to match the medium and soft ones; overall a great sleeping experience. Bathroom was large and the water was super hot. Elevator speed/availability-3-There are two elevators and only one was working, and it seemed to get stuck on floors occasionally. The good news is the stairs are right there and easy access. Gym/pool-5-I didn't use the pool(although many people were) but the gym was very good. The was a full compliment of dumbbells from 5-50 lb., a cable machine, bench, kettle bells, and cardio equipment. Restaurant-n/a none, but the free breakfast was very good. Staff-5-Front desk folks were really nice and helpful. No known benefit if you are a Diamond member which surprised me, I was told that because there is no on-site restaurant there were no a diamond perks...not sure what that means. Price-5- Very good pricing. Overall-5- I will definitely stay there again if I am in the area. Shout out-Raven at the front desk, really nice, hospitable, and answered all of my questions with a smile.

We selected this property because of its overall location which was not only convenient to family and friends but also extremely convenient for hopping on I-5. We checked in around 3 PM in order to get settled in our room before meeting family for dinner. As always, we appreciate the size and layout of the Home2Suites line of Hilton properties. We appreciate the kitchenette and apartment size refrigerator/freezer, along with ample counter space including two sinks, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom, and a place to easily set up your laptop if needed. The entire flow of the room works really well for us. The studio suites are large enough to accommodate more than two people, but we've also enjoyed staying in the one bedroom suite which offers even more room and is similar to a small apartment. We learned they opened in February of 2021 and were busy from the start. We were told they initially housed many families that first year who were displaced from their homes because of Oregon wildfires in the area. In addition to being very convenient to I-5, it is also extremely convenient to Highway 22 which runs east and west through the area. As common in Home2Suites properties there is a nice size gym, laundry facility, a better than average hotel breakfast served daily, and this particular property has a indoor pool and hot tub, which makes it nice since it is open year round. There is also a patio area which offers outdoor seating and barbecue grills. Also, every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. But a special shout out to Terrence, who was extremely helpful in assisting my wife with her early morning laundry routine. Our only negative experience was they do not appear to have enough luggage carts for the property. We struggled upon check in and check out to locate a luggage cart, which makes it much easier for us to transport our cooler, which is not on wheels, and of course, helpful with transporting additional luggage.

My room was far larger than expected, and was very well-equipped. In addition to all the standards (in-room refrigerator, microwave, etc.) was a white noise (and others) machine to assist with sleep (one minor gripe is that the sound isolation between rooms isn't terribly great), and a wall-mounted thermostat for the air conditioner and heat. One very thoughtful touch was two bottles of water, free of charge, already in my room upon arrival. Staff was incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. My room was immaculate, and there were no signs of wear on anything nor neglected repairs. Complimentary breakfast was better than most. The mains also vary from day to day. There is a separate waffle station from the main hot dishes, and it features pastries that were far better than most, which was a really pleasant surprise. The covered parking garage is TIGHT, and is shared with the in-hotel restaurant (Bentley's), and the Salem Convention Center, so it can get crowded. There are two "Blink" EV charging stations, which is appreciated.

Downsides: - Hotel temp was HOT. ALL THE TIME. The elevators were too. - Pillows lumpy, need to be replaced - Showers have rain shower heads...really just the worst when you're not a man. - Don't go here for the views. My window looked out at the top of a building lol - TV's are still on DirectTV. Yall really gotta switch to streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc) Upsides: -I appreciate that the hotel cares about conservation and limiting their carbon footprint -The complimentary aluminum bottled waters were nice - They have a sound machine which is pretty neat -- haven't seen that in other hotels - Staff was nice

A big positive was the free EV charging -- I woke up to a full battery and continued my trip with no issues. Check‑in was friendly, and the warm cookie was a nice touch. The room itself was spacious with a couch, though oddly the couch doesn't face the TV. The end table was sticky and not cleaned properly, and I noticed a burn hole in the carpet near the bed. The carpet overall is showing its age and could use shampooing or replacement. They also charge $15 for a hotel type breakfast that would normally be free at other hotels which was disappointing. I skipped it and went to Elmer's down the street instead and had a much better meal for about the same price. Convenient location and great EV charging, but the noise, worn carpet, and cleanliness issues keep it from being a stronger stay.

The receptionist put me in a far away room on one end of the building on the second floor when I asked for a high floor room by the elevator/lobby. Before I got to my room I was disappointed. I went back and had to wait a bit before I got helped. However, she switched me to a close room near the pool. I actually loved this room. Even though it was close to the pool, it was super quiet, recently remodeled, and convient to the breakfast room. They had sugar and peanut butter cookies at checkin with coffee and the breakfast was good. They even had grapes at breakfast too and a variety of food selections. They would switch the offerings so sometimes there was sausage other days bacon - and some days we had scrambled eggs and other days it was boiled and fried. Some days they had bagels other days they had English muffins. Lots of variety. I liked that they had a small little book and game library near the lobby too plus a variety of tourist literature. The place was cozy and felt like a small apartment. I had housekeeping one day, but not the others. I would have tipped to have housekeeping every day, but that didn't happen and i wasn't expecting it. I also had a bit of trouble getting recognized as a Choice reward member because my work made the reservation, but I did get things fixed. It's in a quiet business/medical cul-de-sac close to the freeway, but the rooms were quiet and the place had everything essential for a good stay. It's close to a pretty man-made lake. I stopped to see the geese and visit the bakery cupcake and cookie place nearby. It's a great value for what you get. I would stay here again. I would recommend this place for people staying in Salem.
