This shop though has proven itself to be trustworthy and competent to myself (someone who has been a professional mechanic before....a good one too) Seeing as I don't have the patience or the specific tools needed I find myself relying on mechanics for my vehicles. Of course 2 years ago, I asked them to replace a specific part. I got my emissions passed, but light came back on month or 2 later. Fast forward to recently, I broke down and just asked for help. It was that part, but also another one that failed. Diagnosis took a couple of hours, but dangit it was worth it. Manager Marty is ducking his warranty he gave me for two repairs totaling 7k over the past few months. Replaced an ecm in my envoy because the last one failed after so many years. He replaced ecm and fuse box only to fry the ecm again. Ordered a new one, and everything was fine till yesterday. Ecm short circuited (I watched it smoking) and the fuse box almost caught on fire. Spent my last 195 dollars to get it towed home and called him to tell him what was up. Was met with "ecm's don't just fry themselves " even though he's done it too. lol. Never told me about a towing reimbursement that was in my warranty. Now he's wanting me to get it towed to him (even though it's only 300 yards from my home). Stated that if it was something they did he'd cover it, but if they found something else that caused it, it wouldn't be covered. lol. Nice try Marty. I have been a customer here for about 4 years. I have never had a problem. My first huge expense was when I began experiencing smoke coming from my oil pan. They fixed it. But when i went back for an oil change they advised me that it was beginning to leak oil again in the oil pan. They fixed it again on warranty. They didn't have to advise me but they did at no cost. The staff is what the company name says, Honest. They are straight forward and clear but maintain great customer service. At each oil change they advice me what needs to be completed on my older car and work with me on scheduling and getting it repaired. I wholly recommend going here. If you own a Honda, do not bring it to Honest-1 Auto Care Spotsylvania as they proved themselves incompetent to properly diagnose an electrical problem causing my Honda to stall intermittently in traffic. They lacked the knowledge, experience, and expertise to perform a proper and thorough diagnosis and they charged labor charges for their diagnostic. I believe this business took advantage of me as an elderly woman who didn't know much about cars and charged me $1,170.06 for unnecessary parts and labor which were never the cause of my Honda's intermittent stalling. I brought my 2000 Honda Accord to the Spotsylvania branch in Virginia to diagnose an electrical problem causing my car to stall intermittently in traffic. The mechanic never found the correct component which caused the stalling. Instead, he focused on my alternator which he said failed at 3 points from a perfect score. The business later refused to turn over the battery/alternator test results to me. I now know that a failing alternator would not cause a vehicle to stall intermittently. With a failing alternator, you would not be able to start the engine. You would have poor cranking issues, which I never experienced. This business replaced my Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) alternator and serpentine belt with non-OEM parts which negatively affected my Honda's performance and my car continued to stall in traffic because they never correctly diagnosed or fixed the electrical problem. If you can't identify the problem, you can't fix the problem. As my car continued to stall after I spent $1,170.06 on unnecessary parts and labor, they did not want to spend more time diagnosing electrical problems without being paid more money. So my Honda was towed to the Pohanka Honda dealership where the Honda mechanic performed a thorough diagnostic and found that the intermittent stalling was due to a failure of the Programmed Fuel Injection Main Relay (PGM-FI), a part which controls power to the fuel pump and which costs $139. He also replaced Honest-1's aftermarket serpentine belt with an OEM serpentine belt and the chirping/squealing noises under the hood stopped. To put non-OEM parts into a 23 year old Honda shows incompetence and the people at Honest-1 should have known better if they cared about customers. As long as they got my money, they did not care. They endangered my life having me drive on I-95 after replacing my alternator two times and the stalling continued. Even when I told them that the stalling was caused by a failure of the Main Relay, they did not refund my money for unnecessary parts and labor. That shows dishonesty and greed. After all, it's all about the money. It's always about the money. I reported this business to the Better Business Bureau in the hopes of getting my money refunded, but as they have no enforcement authority, that did not happen. The owner of Honest-1 made many false statements, at least six, to which I responded with the truth. He tried to shift the blame for my Honda's electrical problem to the Honda personnel, which was ridiculous, and he never took responsibility for his business' failure to correctly diagnose and fix my Honda's electrical problem. I also filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Section, which also has no enforcement authority. Because of that, the business never responded to their letters, which tells me they have much to hide. This should tell you everything you need to know about this company. BUYER BEWARE!!! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! In my opinion, they should be called Dishonest-1 Auto Care based on my experience and loss of money. Took my 98 volvo to read the codes for our check engine light. I made one appointment for a few days out, their next available, then another one for nearly 2 weeks out ad they needed more time to look things over. They did call us soon after (about an hour) drop off this time to tell us they would need $450 to do a deeper inspection as this car, unsurprisingly, had a lot of codes come up. I give them 5 stars for customer service. We took some time to discuss and call back to let them know we would come pick up our car instead of dumping more money into it. They were very kind and attentive every step and did not give us the business for using up a lot of their time and didn't even charge us a thing. I also appreciated them not trying to talk us into digging into this deeper like other mechanics we have seen in the past. This has to be the biggest rip off place I have ever been to. We took a 2006 Mini to be fixed with a Harmonic Balancer we went because of AAA. What a joke I spent $846 dollars. Had an oil change and a repair done here and will never again trust these people. Came in with a Groupon for a series of oil changes. I had gone to a different location for my first one and they upcharged me $20 for the oil change since the Groupon stated an up charge would be added for full synthetic. I knew this going in, but when I went to this location they upcharged me $50? The next day I called them when they opened and they told me my car was already done. I thought this seemed kind of fast, since they told me when I took it in the day before that the part would need to be ordered. When I remarked about how fast the repair had been done, the employee looked at me weird and said " What were you having done to your car again?" Mind you, this was the guy who had set this all up the day before.... The part was never ordered, and all I got in response was "oh, I guess I forgot" So, I had to leave my car there an additional day, which lead to me losing out on income for the day since I'm a courier and use my own personal car. I'd give this shop 4 to 5 stars if they were more modern. The mechanics and service provided is top notch. My issue with them is they don't take the discount coupons that they email me. The last time I was there I got some services done and the work was performed well. When I showed them my coupons they emailed me they told me I had to print it and bring it in. It then dawned on me that this was the second time this happened to me. I figure I lost $75-$100 bucks in the last visits there. I guess I could buy a printer with what I overpaid. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Honest-1 of Gresham! My daughter's brakes locked up so we took it to Honest-1 in Gresham to have them take a look at it. Jason at the front desk was AMAZING! He explained what they could do. Of course my hubby thought we could try to do the work ourselves and tried to drive it off the lot, only to park it and come back into the office. They didn't make us feel like idiots, instead we had a good laugh and they did the work that day. They said it would be done by 5, they completed the work by 2:30! When we got there, the mechanic was so extra show us his handy work, he took us on the back to show how bad the brakes were. They most likely saved our lives (literally)! Their genuine concern for our safety and the ease of conversation was a welcomed. I have taken my vehicles there for the past 2-3 years, they ALWAYS take great care of our vehicles, explain the work and give us a fair price. They do offer Veteran discounts if you let them know. I have been using Honest 1 for years. Until the service turned into shit. My last oil change was supposed to be a full-service oil change, I made the appointment for this service 1 week prior. The techs performed the service and then told me that they were only able to perform a standard oil change because the parts they needed were out of stock. Like I said, I made the appointment 1 week earlier. They could not get the parts before that's Bullshit. This is just bad service, they knew I wanted the full-service oil change, but instead of telling me that they did not have the parts, they LIED and performed a service I did not want. When I told them to do the full-service oil change or I would not pay, they made up a BULLSHIT excuse. I have also called 3 times in the last week to request another full-service oil change (in case the last time was a fluke). It's been a week since I left a voice mail, and no one has called me back. This was at the Gresham, OR. location. They use to have great service and friendly employee's. Now it feels like going to a shade tree shop that only wants to screw you out of your money by lying to you. I have been here several times for minor and moderate services on a couple of cars. I get the impression that the staff are competent, and they have convenient hours and fast turnaround. I would have given 4 stars, except that I am unhappy with their marketing practices, which I believe border on deceptive. They offer coupons on their website, groupon deals for oil changes, and many other ways to get you in the door. Unfortunately. I have felt like they didn't honor the spirit of those promotions nearly every time I try to use them. Most recently I bought a groupon for 3 oil changes. I read the fine print and it said that'll they would be good for any passenger car. When I arrived, they indicated that since my car needed synthetic blend oil, they would treat it as a $25 discount coupon instead of a fully-paid coupon, as advertised on groupon. This review is long overdue. I was traveling to visit family in Portland when I overheated on an on ramp on I-84. I was towed to Honest-1 auto, Honest in the name should have been my 1st clue. They quoted me $2400- for what should have been a $350- job per my local mechanic who had worked on this vehicle previously and diagnosed it correctly over the phone. After spending $550- which they claimed was a good deal (haha), they shoved me out the back bay door telling me I was going to overheat, imagine that because they disconnected my radiator fan, my water pump and didnt tighten my lug nuts on my wheel. Can you say major accident waiting to happen?!! Fortunately I was referred to Daves auto repair in Sellwood Moreland neighborhood and for $150- I was on my way (thank you Dave). Do not use Honest-1, all the auto parts stores had nothing but bad things to say about them. They sure tried to take advantage of a single female like myself. If I could negative reviews I would. This was the worst and most expensive experience I have had for car service. My grandson purchased a low milage used car. It had been setting for several years so I decided to have it checked out. The was a squeal when brakes were applied. I took it to Honest 1 to be checked out. I was told it needed new brake pads and rotors (sais they could not reserface them). They said the brakes would not release and that I needed a new ABS controler for another $800. I asked if they had checked to see if ithe pistons in the calipers were stuck before putting ithe pads in. They had not and said I needed four new calipers. I agreed let them install them. When I took the car home, the brakes were squealing worse than when I brought it in. Told I needed wait a week before I could get an appointment. I then looked at the wheels and saw a caliper clip was installed wrong and was cutting into the hub of the new rotor. Took the back and they did replace clip the correct was. My grandson drove the car to work and when got home he told me the had been a loud noise and braked funny. I jacked up the car and took off the wheel, when I did the brake caliper came off the rotor. The the top mounting bolt was missing and the calliper jammed into the wheel and prevented wheel from rotating in reverse. I took a picture of the problem because car could not be moved. When I went back I was told to have it towed in for inspection. I did raise my voice said all I needed a new bold so I could fix it right myself. They because I hollered at them , they would not help me any more. I purchased new bolts from a parts store. When I removed the second bolt, it was old and rusted. when checking all the wheels, all had reused old bolts. Now I had already paid for Caliper kits that had all new mounting parts. I sound like an angry old man (78 years old) and I am. I have been in the auto parts business for over 60 years and for over 30 years with a major US brake parts manufacturer. By the way they tryed to charge me for the brake pads twice and for the $800 controler that was not installed. To think my my grandson could bben have killed if the failure happened on the freeway at 70 mph. read more

I brought my 2002 Chrysler Town&Country in to Honest 1 in Gresham for a Check Engine light for an Evaporative Emissions System Leak in May 2022. Well, actually 2. According to the diagnostic codes, one was a small leak and the other a large one. Aaron was a nice enough guy and insisted that the problem was the gas cap. I told him that I was aware that that would be the first thing to check so I had just bought a new cap a few days before. He was adamant that the gas cap didn't fit right and needed to be replaced. The cap he ordered for me was OEM from MOPAR at $56.03. He also suggested $1700.00 worth of additional repairs that I don't know if I needed or not. I did add a few of the items he suggested for a total, including the gas cap, of $983.32. The light came back on about 5 days later and I took it back to Honest 1 and they charged me an additional $431.55 for a Leak Detection Pump & Filter. The very next day the Check Engine light came back on, so I checked the diagnostic codes and they were exactly the same 2 that I initially took the car in for. So, here I am, a month later and roughly $1400 poorer with the same problem I had before I took my car to them to begin with. I decided not to take it back to them a third time because they had already demonstrated that they couldn't fix the problem and I didn't even want to know how much more money they would have gotten out of me. It costed me $1400 (plus the gas cap I had just bought from Auto Zone and Uber transportation for 2 trips) to learn where NOT to take my car for repairs. Buyer Beware! read more

I'll never go back. My daughters car needed brakes. Usually a shop will replace the pads and turn the rotors. "Dishonest-1" replaced the calipers and everything without asking me first. They said "it's just how they do it." It cost me an unnecessary fortune. The manager was rude and said "don't you care about your daughter's brakes?" With that comment I decided to never go back. I got an oil change done here in January of 2011. I went here instead of my regular mechanic because I had a coupon from a promotion by a local radio station for an $8.60 oil change. In their defense, I'm fairly sure they did actually change out my oil. I'm rating them a 1 because of the attempt they made at upselling me. When I came back to pick up my car, they gave me a quote for over $500 in additional services... About $400 of which was to "remove and replace" my oil pan gasket, which I'd just had installed a few months previously by my regular mechanic. I opted instead to take it back to my regular mechanic to have them inspect the gasket under their warranty, and they confirmed there were no issues with it. I will not be returning to Honest-1. My friend went in a few days after me with the same $8.60 oil change coupon and got very similar treatment. She also will not be returning. read more

I had water dumping into my floorboards so I Googled/Youtubed a solution. Everybody says to blast air into the AC drain tube, not the evap tube. Even watched a video of it happening. No problem. I can't get under my car so I thought I'd swing by a garage with a pit or a lift and see if they can help me out. Dude at Honest told me over the phone first to just take it to a gas station and blast it from under then car, but then said I'd need to have Honest mechanics work the evap tube from under the hood, minimum 3 hours of labor at 96 bucks an hour. I used to trust this business. However something has changed. They told us our car needed to have an $850 brake job. We declined to let them do the work. We took our car to Les Schwab in Gresham. They inspected the brakes and said the brakes needed to be cleaned and adjusted for $20.50. Les Schwab is awesome!! Honest-1 are pirates! UPDATE 1 Year later... The brakes they told me I needed are still only 1/2 worn! Plus the gas tank repair they did has made it nearly impossible to put gasoline in from day one. I was referred to Honest-1 Auto Care by a friend of a friend. I traveled to Portland from San Jose, CA in search of a food truck to purchase. Before leaving for our long road trip, we wanted to make sure that the truck would make it back and we wouldn't be stranded in the middle of nowhere. At first we called around other shops and they were quoting us $120 (which seem a little expensive but we didn't mind) for a bumper to bumper inspection, but said they couldn't guarantee that it would be done by the end of the day (even if we brought it first thing in the morning!). Frantic that we would be stuck in Portland for another day or two, my friend started making calls around to friends he had in the area. He referred us here and I'm really glad he did! The woman that helped us ensured that it wouldn't take more than an hour or two to do the inspection. The tech did a thorough job inspecting the truck (even checking horn and brake lights!) and test drove the truck for driveability issues. After he was all done, the tech went through the checklist with us and went over a few concerns he found. He said we should address these issues when we were back in California, but our truck will be ok making it back. The best part was the inspection was only $65, half of what the other shop wanted to charge us. They were even nice enough to say that we can leave the truck at their shop as long as we needed because we still needed to check out of our hotel and return our rental car. We made it back to California with no issues. It was great having peace of mind driving back. Can't thank Honest-1 enough! read more

Very bad experience. Came in for oil change "special". A much more expensive "option" was offered by the mechanic where "mysteriously" (right where he has been messing with my car) ... Two cuts on my serpentine belt obviously "just happened" ... "dead center on top". (No dust inside the cuts and clean lines of fresh rubber at the cut location.) This was a newer serpentine belt mind you. Perfect with 5k Miles on it. I have worked on cars for 42 years ... so I know what is new and unnatural damage. Now I have to replace the serpentine belt. I was cordial to everyone there and am glad I left there with "only" that damage. There are honest mechanics elsewhere. Honest mechanics are busy from repeat business ... so ... The worst experience I have EVER had in an auto repair shop. I used to work in one and I'm aware of the drive to increase business, but the best way is to BE HONEST WITH THE CUSTOMERS!!! They lied up front about everything our car needed. They quoted me the prices of necessary repairs which they said included radiator flush, alt. battery and connectors, transmission flush and filter, oil pan gasket, head gasket, valve cover gasket, 4 wheel brake job, and some front end repair and alignment, and 4 new tires. Went to a dealer and they too want to increase business, however they showed me the repairs needed- alternator, valve cover gasket, front brake job and 4 new tires, and a transmission mount. I took my F 150 in because it had a mis fire and would shake when under a load. They told me my cam phasers were shot need replaced this did not make sense to me but they swore to me this is the problem. So I had the work done, $ 4,500 later get it back. Driving home from shop still same problem so I take it back they had to redo job all over again, week later they called me back said they finished the job and went to start it and phasers just exploded so they had to redo job again week and half later called me back and said still doing the same thing, now you need new motor and I will give you a good deal on a used one $7,000 more please. Started driving again had very bad oil leak called Marty back told him valve cover was leaking I need to get fixed he said they did not touch valve covers not under warranty, Sorry. I had 2 other shop's said that's B S job can't be done without removing. So now $ 800 later got that fixed by NAPA, good job. Still having misfire I take it to Ford dealership. They diagnose problem and they said the problem was a bad alternator and needed a tuneup, $1,300 + later IT RUNS PERFECT... There name is misleading because there anything but HONEST or capable.. Wound not recommend at all.. I just wish I could give them less than a 1 star rating because they deserve it..
