I just got my car serviced at Honesty Automotive today and I think I just found my local mechanic! I took my 2010 Toyota Corolla to the Toyota Dealer the other day to get two things looked at: 1) The Takata Airbag Recall 2) The fact that I had to press my brake pedal almost all the way down in order to stop my car The first issue the dealership took care of easily-- after all, it was a safety recall. However, the second issue, the dealer quoted me a price that was way too much! The service rep at the dealership told me on the phone that I needed all new brake calipers, but when I picked up my car, I noticed the mechanic notes said I only had an issue with my "driver side caliper slide pin" I then took my car to Tom and Honesty Automotive hoping to find a deal and get a second opinion. My biggest thing was I was afraid of trying out a new mechanic especially on something as critical as my brakes, but I looked to my friends at yelp and decided to take a leap of faith-- I was not disappointed. Tom didn't just take what I told him I needed and rely on the Toyota mechanic notes, but he conducted his own diagnoses of my car as well, much like a second opinion with a doctor. Tom diagnosed my car perfectly! Tom said that he usually doesn't see the locked up brake calipers like mine except for cars that have driven where it snows a lot and asked if that was the case with my car. What do you know? I bought my car in New York and spent some time there while I was in school (I didn't tell him any of that before bringing my car to him); nailed it! Regarding upselling, I don't think Tom did that at all. The only thing he said was that my front passenger side brake caliper pin could use some work too and that made sense to me-- you wouldn't buy just one tire because then it'd be uneven with the rest of them. I agreed to the purchase and he completed the job in no time-- from drop off to pick up 3 hours (and that likely includes an hour lunch break for him and his guys). Bottom line-- if you need a mechanic in the Plano area, support a Veteran (Tom is a Navy veteran) and a local business and give Tom at Honesty Automotive a Call. He'll shoot you straight on what you need and is totally transparent about how much everything will cost. Bonus points-- if you ask him for a quote on Yelp, he'll respond really quickly! read more

After having my battery replaced by AAA, their technician told me that his diagnostic test showed that my alternator was not working properly and to get it checked out ASAP. I communicated online with Ray, at Honesty Automotive, who gave me an estimated price range for replacing it. When I brought the car into the shop, they did their own testing, which showed that my alternator was functioning properly. Ray had me go into the shop, where their technician showed me the reading he was getting, and explained what it would have been had my alternator needed replacing. They also didn't charge me anything for performing the test. They certainly live up to the name of their company and have earned my business in the future. In a field of business where a lot of customers feel they can be taken advantage of, it's refreshing to see that there are honest repair shops out there. I've been looking for a good shop to take my car to...I've found it. Great service! They don't try to push services that aren't necessary. Plus the prices are very competitive. Took my car to another place for a small repair and they were trying to charge me almost twice as much.
