This is the second time that we have discovered a foreign object in our eggs. I was there with a friend this past summer and she discovered a white plastic piece in her omelet, like they use to tie the plastic bag on bread. The waitress was very apologetic but the manager never came to our table. This afternoon we were there again and my brother in law discovered a piece of aluminum foil in his omelet. This place is not as great as I anticipated. First off we were sat at a not so clean table. Old decanter of water was still there, food on the silverware... another gentleman a row across experienced the same thing. Mind you this is mid afternoon lunch, the place wasn't crowded at all! Alright, it's official, we've at long last found our breakfast place!! Started with a 10 minute wait, then to the back we go. Hubs got the farmers skillet with chocolate chip pancakes (he said it had fresh ingredients, big fatty pieces of mushrooms) and I got the jambalaya omelet with chocolate chip pancakes and a side of corned beef hash (not the usual canned stuff fried on the skillet, too real so hubs got it). Now, the chocolate chip pancakes deserve their own paragraph!! Sure, it was a $.89 upgrade for the chocolate chips, but amazing. Amazing doesn't even cover it! I posted a picture for your enjoyment. It was loaded with chocolate chips in the pancakes themselves but also shaved milk and white chocolate on top! Too great! Worth the $1 for sure! Worst breakfast place I've ever been to. We were seated and waited 10 minutes until our waitress came over. I felt pretty rushed and unwelcome because of her demeanor. The food arrived after a while, I got a skillet with a side of pancakes. The pancakes tasted like cardboard and needed a lot of syrup just to be acceptable. Denny's has better pancakes. The skillet was a heaping mess and didn't look appetizing but tasted okay. At least I thought it tasted okay, until I started getting nauseous! I never got nauseous from breakfast food before so I don't know what happened. The non talkative waitress brought the check and didn't even ask if we wanted anything else. Oh well. Also, the restaurant was freezing and I didn't like the atmosphere. I probably won't return. read more

My go to breakfast place. Great coffee, fresh squeezed oj and grapefruit juice, and delicious food. From pancakes, waffle, skillets, omelettes and crepes you can find something for everyone. The bacon is what bacon should be - crisp, salty and not too greasy. My new favorite is their cheesy grits with bacon and topped with two poached eggs. I probably should try the fit options like steel cut oatmeal or fruit but this place is a guilty pleasure so probably not gonna happen. ;) read more

Open early & large breakfasts. Visited on a Saturday at 6am. Ordered eggs & bacon, an omelet and egg whites with Canadian bacon. Serving sizes huge! All of the sides are optioned with pancakes, toast, corn bread, fruit, hash brown etc! The wheat toast is real wheat toast (not brown colored white bread). The coffee was some of the best I've had at breakfast diner and the server was consistent with refills. All the food orders arrived on time, accurate and quickly which exhibits good communication between server and kitchen team. Highly recommend this joint!! read more

I've always loved Butterfields, but last time I was there we were asked to move tables immediately after we finished eating. My friends and I were sipping on some coffee after our meal, when we were asked to move to the opposite side of the restaurant because they needed to use our table for another party that was coming in. There were plenty of empty tables that could have been used for the other party. Our waiter forgot about us, and when we left to go to to front to get our check and pay, she chased us down reminding us that we hadn't paid yet. I've never been asked to move right as we were finishing our meal, and I found it to be really rude. Sadly, we won't be going back to one of our favorite breakfast places. read more

A friend and I stopped here this past Sunday for brunch and I've since become a new fan. There's nothing better than being able sit outdoors in the sunshine and getting served a beautiful Farmer's Skillet of savory goodness - it's a fried egg topped over hasbrowns with a fluffy omelette containing button mushrooms, bacon, sausage, ham, tomatos, green peppers, broccoli. And it comes with a buttered English muffin toasted to perfection. One word for all this? YUM! This is the kind of place where people of all ages can enjoy, whether you're dining with friends, family, or alone, you'll be greeted warmly by the host and be seated quickly and the service here is super and fast. I ran in a 5k not too far from this place and some locals invited me out to eat here. Though I couldn't stop referring to it as, "Buttfields", I have to say I was totally impressed with this place. Their menu has some stuff that other restaurants don't even think of...the French Toast especially: New Orleans style with bananas, banana nut or lemon poppyseed bread French toast, or even taffy apple French toast. That's stuff I HAVE to try, man. I would quite like to get my hands on the Mediterranean scramble too. Plus, one of my friends had a feta and artichoke heart omelette, which is incredible. You don't even see my beloved artichoke on other restaurant menus, much less for breakfast. My love affair with Buttfield's is set in stone by the fact that they served me, not kidding, six cups of coffee while I hung out there. They really are good with refills; total pros. I wish there was one closer to my realm of the universe, I'll find my way back or die trying. read more

What in the world are people smoking before entering this place?? Absolutely baffled by some of these 5-star reviews. (Cmon guys..this place does not deserve the prestigious 5-star rating) This place is somewhat close to our home so I've been here a handful of times..each time my husband & I tell each other we won't return BUT seriously this time. The orange juice here is usually very good but today it was pale yellow & overly sweet (I can forgive that because it's just the oranges that are available for the season). When the food came it was downright awful. We got 2 skillets- one grilled chicken & one corn beef hash. 1st of all, the grilled chicken one had thrown-on old, rotting spinach on top & the cheese shreds on top were not melted..also the chicken was so dry it could barely be chewed. The corn beef hash skillet my husband received was downright inedible, it looked like someone got sick on the plate (maybe dropped & shoveled back on?). Also, the pancakes as a side here are usually fluffy, vanilla dreams but today they tasted nothing as usual & were way over cooked.) But whats unforgivable here is that everything is not cooked properly & is BLAND BLAND BLAND w/ no signs of seasoning at all. Most importantly of all... We have been very very sick since eating there this afternoon. I'm starting to figure food poisoning at this point. If you would have seen what we were served you would have thought we might get sick. I feel foolish for continuing to eat when things just didn't taste or look quite right but never again. $40 down the drain, for this horrible food & a ruined day due to sickness. For years, we use to go to the Naperville one & the older man who owns that one seems to keep a tight ship. If you must go, try that one out. Saw a interesting place semi hidden away from the rest of Chicagoland. Upon entry there are a couple different seating reservations from the middle area which has more high traffic from customers and staff to the window areas which give more of a privacy feel as they are not as highly traveled. So depending how many times you'd like someone to ask you how everything is and if you need anything else would depend on where you'd like to be seated. The menu was fairly simple, a breakfast and a lunch side, however there were so many options to choose from it could be a bit overwhelming at first. I honestly spent more time looking over the menu than I did waiting for my food so yeah speedy service is always a plus. I went with the grits and jambalaya option with the poached eggs and an additional order of brioche French toast. The presentation was beautiful one of those work of arts you kinda feel bad eating, but feel bad if you don't. The portions were humble, but that can just be my opinion as I'm a fat kid at heart. The taste was excellent was not lacking in flavor and I couldn't stop myself from cleaning the bowl before my server asked if I wanted another lemonade. All in all the meal was filling, won't get full off it to where nap time is required, but it will get you just the right amount of full where you can still go to work fully energized. My only problem is you probably can't order everything on the menu in one sitting, or can you...?! I'll have to look into this on another visit. read more

Went to the Wheaton location of this regional chain for an early breakfast with our toddler. We were sat right away, the coffee was instant and the food very prompt. I ordered a paleo meal of over-medium eggs, bacon and tomato slices. The bacon was PERFECT. My spouse ordered eggs Benedict and was equally pleased. And for the toddler? Mickey Mouse pancakes of course. Prices were comparable, service was excellent and we loved the free ballon for the kid. I know this place gets nutty later in the day but at 8am it was perfect for our little, loud family. Thanks Butterfield's - we will be back. read more

Butterfields is really good at two things: 1) Consistently providing good service and quality of food. 2) Amazing pancakes. I don't ask for much, but if you call yourself a pancake house, they better be good, and they better always be good. Every time we've been to Butterfield's as a family, everyone has loved their meal - mostly consisting of some mix of pancakes, sausage, bacon, and eggs in a variety of styles. The staff is pleasant. The experience doesn't feel "canned" or like a chain. In fact, I'd describe it as a "mom + pops feel" to the place. I'd recommend checking it out! Weekdays are far less crowded, but it's kind of fun to show up on Saturday morning to get the full effect if you're not in a rush. read more

Was there initially in mid-2106 a couple of times and it was okay. Returned in August 2017 and won't be back. Gotta clean up their act - literally. The carpeting is filthy. Also, service was not as good as prior visits. And the food itself was not worth the money you pay. Not going to get into it, just know it lacked any care and warmth. We usually come here on Sunday. It's packed. Stuff is very friendly and accommodating. Today I was schooled by the treatment. We were sat down by the kitchen station in the corner booth. It was loud and I asked if we could be moved to another booth that just opened. I was told it was no problem. Alejandra came over and started telling us to move to a table which I politely replied to that we are waiting for another spot. She then started telling me about how she runs the restaurant with servers covering different tables and such. I could care less about such details. Ruined my breakfast. We've been going here for years, and it's an AWESOME breakfast place! They keep adding new things to keep the menu fresh. We just got back and had a GREAT server, Heather. She was able to get me my PERFECT breakfast (I usually like a ton of different things, and she was able to accomodate everything!)....had the perfect balance of checking in on us and leaving us alone, and ACTUALLY REMEMBERED MY ORANGE JUICE! When I go to breakfast, I always tell servers that I'd like a glass of orange juice, but not until my meal because I'll gulp it down before the food even hits the table. 99% of the time I have to remind servers to get it because they've got 10 other tables to remember (which is totally understandable!). I really really really wish you could give half stars on Yelp. I know it would mess up averaging and all of that, but still. I don't want to only give Butterfield's 3 stars, but I can't justify 4. In my search for a mind blowing breakfast, this does not make the list. It is a great breakfast place. Seemed to be great for families (there were kids shows playing on the tvs on Sunday morning). Its busy, of course, but the wait wasn't ridiculous. I got a flank steak benny, and I have to say, the steak was actually cooked medium rare as I asked, and had lots of flavor! It was very good food with friendly service. My boyfriend got his usual skillet and wasn't impressed. Everything was fine, but it wasn't great. My final word on this was that it was good food and service, environment was that of any busy family breakfast establishment. It was fine, but it was identical to many of the local pancake houses around. Don't avoid this place, definitely give it a try, but if you are looking for something unique, this is not your place. read more

We have been to Butterfields several times. The food is good, but each time it seems to be a bit bland. Don't get me wrong the food is very good, however it is missing that last little something that would make it great. The first time I was there I had the Mexican skillet. Good, but bland. I had the Denver omelet, which was huge! I would highly recommend ordering a glass of orange juice because they have a machine that makes it fresh right in front of you! The pancakes were good because they were fluffy but had a slightly crisp exterior, which I really like. Butterfields is one of those restaurants that is great to eat at if you are in the area and it isn't too crowded but don't be one of the crazies on a sunday morning knocking down the walls to eat here. First off the service here is actually very good. The waitresses and waiters are very professional and do a great job. The food is good but nothing you can't get at any of the 500 other breakfast places in the area. The wait on a sunday morning however is very long so I don't recommend coming then although if you do they are nice and have complementary cookies and coffee while you wait. Was in the area and wanted to try something different, so stopped in. Service was friendly. Prices seemed a little on the high side, 1045 for a cheeseburger. Ok it was a fried bacon cheese burger, but still. You seem to get good quantity and the quality was ok. Ive never had a runny fried egg so that threw me off cause i wasnt ready for it to be so sloppy. Didnt ruin it. I'm a little surprised by some of the bad reviews. We love going to this place for breakfast! I think their pancakes are amazing and I usually get the New Mexico Skillet, but with regular sausage. (Not a chorizo fan) Their freshley squeezed orange juice is very good as well. If you haven't had breakfast here you should definitely give this place a try. Went there with a friend today at lunch. We both ordered eggs. Her omelette arrived !ukewarm. My Sunnyside eggs were just warm, the hash browns were cold and the bacon was burnt, cold, and all curled up. I sent it back because it was cold. I got undercooked eggs, cold potatoes and the same burnt bacon. I am sure this was leftover from rush hour. I can't remember a worse restaurant meal and I am a senior. To top it all off, on the way to the restroom before leaving we had to walk past the staff, we were called witches in Spanish. Now we are both home with upset stomachs. read more

We stopped here for breakfast after renewing a driver license in Wheaton. Service was slow at Jesse White's facility (expected) and a bit slow at the restaurant. The waitress could have come by to offer coffee refills. Once the order was brought to the table, we saw none of her or the coffee pot. The food was pretty good; the link sausages very big and tasty; real maple syrup for the French toast. The price was like the link sausages - big for what we ate. $32 for French toast & links, 3 eggs, hash browns and links, plus juice is a bit high plus a $5.00 tip (should have tipped $4.00 but the waitress was friendly, just slow). read more

This is one of our favorite spots for breakfast on weekends. The staff gets to know you and the service we've received has almost always been great. We had a couple visits where we had a new waiter - but we've never had any real issues. Everything we've ordered has been great. My favorite is the California Scrambler - though I ask them to hold the chicken and add extra avocado. My husband loves to order the bacon deep-fried. When they deep fry it after cooking it - it comes out very crispy and not at all greasy. read more
