I've been wanting to try this spot for a while. To my surprise, I passed this spot on my way to my sorority meeting. I briefly looked at the menu on my phone but thought I would park and order to go on the inside. It's a small spot. It looks like a renovated diner. It's very swank and cute. I looked at the menu, and it seemed more expensive than online. I was able to read the description of each sandwich and make my selections. I ordered the HM chicken sandwich with fries. It didn't take long to wait for my order. I was so excited to try the sandwich, I went to my car and dug in. It was a very tasty sandwich. I really enjoyed it, and the coleslaw wasn't overwhelming. The fries were extremely hot the entire time I was eating them. They seemed to never cool down. I had some ranch dressing to go with, and I wish I had gotten another one. It was really good. The chicken was great, it was well seasoned and juicy, you can tell it was brined well. However, the seasoning that they put on top takes it from great, to okay, because it makes the chicken too salty at that point. All you have to do it scrape it off but it still makes it eh to me. However, the pieces of chicken were HUGE! That was all two meals. The roll was just a basic roll, a Hawaiian roll is better to be honest, its good but not noteworthy. The Brussel sprouts? The star of the show, 10/10. Perfectly roasted and seasoned and the hot honey sauce took it to the next level. The Mac and cheese was interesting. I assumed since this was a fried chicken spot, the Mac and cheese would be more like a southern baked Mac and cheese. I was a disappointed that it wasn't. however, once I shifted my perspective, the Mac was great! Well seasoned and cheesy! I love it! But do not expect southern baked Mac. If you go definitely try the roasted brussel sprouts they were soooo good. The seafood basket was hot and I drizzled it with the hot honey and that was amazing. I have really been trying to not write this review. But in 22 and now 23 I have given Honeymoon more than enough tries. This place always has issues - either you have to wait for a certain item or they don't have it at all. They are always backed up and it's generally chaotic if you go in on the weekends. I have experience issues where my order is often wrong especially if I order via Uber Eats or Doordash. There have been several times where I will pay for white meat but end up with dark. Or, I'll pay for the honey dust and get the original. Or worse if all pay for an extra roll and only get one. Also, there have been 2 occasions where the chicken tastes like it was cooked in old grease. I have spent significant time trying to get reimbursed by Ubereats which refused to give me my money back for these mistakes. So much so, Honeymoon Chicken is one of the reasons why I no longer use Ubereats. Doordash on the hand would at least reimburse me for these issues. I think there is a serious management issue at this place. I have called and complained to management on duty before and received little to no help and a lot of attitude. All this to say...the straw that broke the camel's back for me was to go into the restaurant on New Year's Day 23 after ordering online and still having to wait an extra 25 mins AND then to tell us all there were no rolls available. WTF. This is a chicken place how do you not have the rolls to go with the chicken?! Imagine going to popeyes and they had no biscuits?! Plus, they were so backed up with several folks waiting for orders and only 1 main person filling them. My mom got 3 piece white combo and 1 jumbo wing and had it dusted with hot honey and mashed buttermilk potatoes and mumbo and buttermilk ranch sauce on the side with fireworks slushie. I had two hot honey dipped tenders with wedges and strawberry pineapple lemonade and strawberry basil cocktail. Plus those rolls..... Mom said if she knew that the wings were so big she would of done a two piece considering what you get at popeyes etc. The entire time people just coming in a and grabbing their take out and I couldn't imagine being able to get a bucket of this stuff. This place is really great but there are a couple downsides (not big ones, just a couple small ones). The biggest downside is probably that there's hardly any seating inside. In the warm months it's possible to sit outside, but I went during winter and there's only inside seating. Also, it is quite pricey for fried chicken, but I can understand why as it is a small business in DC. My friend's order also got lost in translation somehow and came out much later than the rest of us, but they handled it very promptly. Otherwise, the chicken itself is flavorful and delicious. It's cooked very well so that the meat is still very juicy. The hot honey flavor was good but just a little too sweet and could have a bit more spice to it. The rolls were a perfect combination of sweet and savory. The mashed potatoes were good and it was nice to try them once, but I might not get them again. If you like eating mashed potatoes with your rolls I can imagine this being really good for you. I called back to Honeymoon Chicken and instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, Stacey started a song and dance on how I was not charged. I asked how can that be? As a first time customer that lives 45 minutes from the restaurant I can not truly rate the chicken since I didn't get the full experience. My brother in law says there are two things that are sure to happen when my sisters and I are together--someone orders Calamari (if it's on the menu) and we're always looking for good fried chicken. The mac & cheese wasn't my favorite, but the chicken made up for it. It was so good. We ended up going back a second time on our trip we order Lemonade, and the first time they forgot to put sugar in it. On a whim, decided to try this restaurant on a date. I am a food enthusiast so I follow Michelin, OAD, 50 best pretty closely; Honeymoon Chicken is a new addition to Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand. It was pretty busy inside because the patio was closed due to the weather (they tell me that dogs are allowed on the patio when the patio is open, though)! The order is done on toast tab which I found to be super convenient - you just scan the QR code wherever you are sitting and start placing your order. It operates like a carryout, so the food comes out relatively quickly and semi-made to order. We tried a fair portion of the menu and everything was good! I'm not vegetarian, but I would say they have a lot of options for people who are. The cauliflower was definitely made super fresh, and super yummy! We had the kale "slaw" (it is really only a salad), watermelon, macaroni & cheese, potato wedges, and brussel sprouts, and the honey butter rolls, and all of them were good. Potato wedges are always good, but the stand outs were the brussel sprouts and the watermelon, imo. The hot honey fried chicken was beautiful, above all; although it didn't taste as good as it looked, it was really good! I preferred my banh mi sandwich to the fried chicken, but that's just how I prefer my chicken anyway: nuggets or a sandwich, for me! The seafood basket has the option of shrimp or flounder. I wish more places had catfish, but we stuck with all shrimp. Nothing to write home about, but definitely really good with the dipping sauce it came with. Overall I would say this place was really yum, and while it isn't the best fried chicken in the city... it is crave worthy! I love saucy or sauce-dipped fried chicken more than I like fried chicken, and they excel at that! I would highly recommend trying it on a nice day on the patio with friends or on a casual date - the frozen strawberry lemonade cocktail was very good.
