4/5 for the food, 1/5 for the service, 0/5 for not having on a/c on a hot day. We went on a Saturday around 1pm. There were not that many people considering it was a Saturday, and we walked right in. First thing I noticed was how HOT the restaurant was. As for the service, our server never got back to our table after giving us water- we waited for 15 minutes until I had to chase down another server to place our order. As for the food, I don't understand why it took 50 minutes to come out, when it was not busy. The girl who brought our food also accidentally brought out another item (tenders) that we didn't place, and gave an attitude when we told her we never ordered it and asked to take it out of the bill. As for the food, the chicken was pretty worth the hype. The bread wasn't as good as I had hoped given the hype, and the strawberry burrata salad was decent, just a little too much dressing. I'd maybe come back strictly for the chicken, but I hope the service would improve in the future.

I've seen this place mentioned so much on social media so I was excited to see what all the hype was about! The restaurant was more of a sit down place vs. carry out which was not what I expected. There was seating inside and outside. I was quickly able to sit at the counter. The staff were very quick and responsive with taking my order and serving it fresh. I got the Honeymoon chicken sandwich and fries. A customer next to me had similar options about his food as well which was greens and a 2 piece combo.Overall, it was ok but not something I would go out of my way for. They are building another one in VA so maybe I'll something else off of the menu there once it opens.

FINALLY made my way over to honeymoon chicken after seeing it all over my social media. We came on a Sunday afternoon and were seated right away. The restaurant is small though, so prepare to be in close quarters with patrons and staff. We ordered a variety of the menu! I had a two piece (dark) with a side of wedges. The meal comes with one honey butter roll, some pickles, and some pickled onions. My husband ordered a lobster slider (seasonal) and the chicken and waffles. First, the star of show - the chicken. Hot, crispy, well seasoned. Delicious! We also enjoyed the lobster slider and wedges. I was expecting to like the honey butter rolls more, but they weren't as soft as expected. The flavor was still good though! My husband also liked his waffle, but thought it was slightly overcooked. We also had their strawberry pineapple lemonade (good but very tart), the mango blueberry lemonade (so good!) and the Arnold Palmer ( I didn't try it, but my husband said it was great!). We can't wait to come back and bring some family with us next time to sample more of the menu.

I've gone to Honeymoon chicken a couple of times and during my recent visit I knew that I needed to write them a review. I've been sporadically dining here since 2022 and I'm happy to see that the business is still thriving. I came in recently on a Friday evening and almost all the seats were taken. That didn't stop them from providing great service. I ordered some chicken bites and fries to go and I'd say it took about 5 minutes before my order was ready. Very impressive. By the time I got home my order was still hot and tasted delicious. The crunch, the seasoning .. whatever sauce came with it was all sooo good. I'm definitely looking forward to paying them another visit soon and actually dining in. It feels like a dinner in there with booths and bar seating. Give the a try if you're ever in the Petworth area of DC! Also pictured below is an order that I got a couple of months back. It's their chicken sliders from the kids meal. Soooo good and a great price (like $8 or so)

Honeymoon Kitchen went viral for all the right reasons. Great fried chicken, reasonable pricing and keeping to the roots of why they started. Diner style seating, outdoor seating. Comfort food with a twist, not an uppity vibe. We got the caviar chicken bites appetizer. Breaded chicken bites topped with crème fraiche and caviar. Great balance and an extra oomph. Hot honey chicken sandwich was amazing, filling and bursting with flavors . Their Kale salad is served in a generous helping bursting with flavors and textures. Street parking, friendly service and would highly recommend!

I finally made it to HoneyMoon Chicken for dinner and honestly...I get the hype. First off, the vibe is super chill-- perfect for a casual night out or grabbing food with friends. You can even see the food being prepared, which I always appreciate. I wanted to try something a little different, so I ordered the Caviar Bites (chicken bites topped with caviar, crème fraîche, and chives). It was my first time trying that combination and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was actually really good-- definitely a yes for me. For my main, I got the three whole jumbo wings "Honeymoon Style," which is their signature hot honey, served with a honey butter roll. I'm not usually a fan of spicy food, but this had the perfect balance-- slightly sweet, a little heat, and a tangy flavor that really stood out. The wings were easily the highlight of the meal. I also had a tequila-based drink with pineapple and cranberry juice that was super refreshing (wish I remembered the name!). The best part? The prices are very affordable for the quality and portion sizes. I'll definitely be coming back for those wings.

This place has slightly gone down since their opening. We were sat right away at a booth. Unfortunately, it was REALLY sticky! We had to ask our server to wipe down the table. We ordered the bone-in chicken (came with a roll), mac and cheese, and poutine. The chicken still tastes amazing! The exterior is super crunchy and had a nice golden brown color. The meat itself was juicy and was cooked perfectly! The roll was honestly the star of the show. It was soft, fluffy, and buttery. Everything you want in a roll. The mac and cheese was decent, could have a bit more flavor. The poutine was good but my only note is that they advertised cheese curds in the dish but it was only slices of cheese. Overall, a good flavorful meal!

A Sunday dinner date found us getting Honeymoon Chicken to go. We got an 8-piece chicken bucket, a 4-piece combo (red-hot dusted) with a side of mac & cheese and a side of brussel sprouts. Delicious! It took a lot of willpower not to dig into the chicken while driving from the restaurant! The chicken is perfectly seasoned, crispy and juicy. I prefer the honey-dusted original, but the red-hot dusted earns its name. What's the better side - the buttery rolls or the mac & cheese or the honeyed brussel sprouts? Only way to know for sure is to try it a few more times! This is probably the best fried chicken in DC right now. If you haven't tried it, you gotta get in line - it's gonna be worth it!

I came here yesterday afternoon after a long adventurous trek through D.C., I was greeted by an extremely nice staff and was given water almost immediately. After I ordered I was given amazing portions of chicken. I got Hot Honey on the side, and wow the regular flavor itself is its own unique taste. I really enjoyed the chicken. Most of them were pretty juicy. It's a pretty small place with a few booths but when it comes to fried chicken it doesn't take long to finish your meal but just in case there's also outdoor seating if you're worried about getting cramped. I also wanted to give my upmost respect and gratitude with the staff. During my visit, a stranger actually came in and unexpectedly stole some of my food. The staff were super attentive and gave me a new fresh plate and quickly took action against the stranger. I hope to be coming back here again!

Delish food! Sweet and fast service even... recommend coming hungry and trying everything out on the menu.

My niece and I decided to try Honeymoon Chicken after a friend recommended it. Our first waitress was kind, but she switched out with another server who came across as argumentative. When I politely mentioned that the drink brought to me tasted like regular Coke instead of Diet Coke, she seemed more interested in debating it than simply replacing it. After trying a little bit of everything on the menu, we went back to our hotel and both became extremely sick. I truly hope it was just an unfortunate case of food poisoning and nothing more serious, but the experience completely ruined part of our trip. I ended up stuck in the hotel for two days feeling sicker than a dog. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I can't recommend this restaurant.

Crispy Chicken Poutine

What a cute little restaurant in Petsworth!! I wish I was hungrier when I went because everything on the menu looked amazing. I tried some of the crispy chicken poutine and it was yummy. Everything remained crispy despite the gravy and melted cheese on top, and it was savory without being too salty. If I ever find myself in Petsworth again, I'd definitely stop by here to try a main entree and some sides.

Honeymoon Chicken Sandwich Combo

Wow wow wow! I saw a photo of these butter rolls and had to get my hands on them. They are so yummy, light, fluffy, buttery. It made me feel like I was eating little puffs of heaven. The chicken sandwich is also great, I wish there was a greater spice level, but it's a very well done sandwich. Sides are great too and they have something for everyone on their menu. Next time, I'd like to try they regular fried chicken plates. I was thoroughly impressed with the food. Service was just good, the food came out fast but it did take a minute to get anyone's attention to get refills. Nonetheless, I still look forward to coming back and trying some more delicious chicken!

So here's what happened...I was researching fried chicken spots, I found one, I went to the spot, I…read moreordered their food, I got the food, I was skeptical, I ate it, and it exceeded my expectations!! Good people when I tell you that the Fried chicken at this establishment is delectable...STAMP THAT!! On my initial review of this place, @janess_backstage_kitchen , I took a bite out of the Halal chicken, and waffle, (pictured-$12) and I gave it the Big Schlim grade of DELICIOUS!! So I finished the review, and started pushing. While pushing, I kept dipping into the container with the chicken in it, taking bites. I did this so much so, that I got viciously honked at while stopped at a green light. I crushed that meal before I arrived at my next destination...and I wasn't even hungry!! That's some good a** chicken my good folks...please believe me...it's officially STAMPED!! So this spot is a licensed, black owned, startup establishment that I decided to give some go too...I'm super happy that I did. With curbside service only, Janess's has a very simple menu that includes shrimp and grits (pictured $12), Belgian Waffles, Halal fried chicken, hand cut Zentachi fries, and a house made mumbo sauce chicken combo that comes with a Belgian waffle. That's it. For now!! I also ordered their shrimp and grits (pictured-$12), that came in a container with enough room to feed 3. It smelled good, but aesthetically it didn't look that great. I took a bite and seemed it DECENT. But once again, I pulled off and I kept dipping!! So this one is officially DELICIOUS!! The more, and more i dipped into these meals, the better they got!! Customer service was excellent (these are some truly kind hearted folks good people), and online ordering is easy. Now In order to perfect your meal, they take their time. So add 30 mins to your pick up time. Online ordering was simple, and parking was available. Good people...trust me on this one...get the chicken, be patient, and enjoy. That's it. #bigschlimsreviews #blackowned #halalfriedchicken #shrimpandgrits #belgianwaffles #housemademumbo #deliciousness #goodeats #stamp #tryit #startup #thatsit

This is a clean store as well and the bathroom require a code, which I wish they printed on the receipt - I had to reline up to ask for the code. Spicy chicken sandwich almost always delivers. And that's the highlight and the good today ended there. My lesson learned is that customizing or removing anything might be tricky since they're working so fast that despite it being spelled out, it still gets missed. I don't mind going back to ask for sauces that were missed, or asking for a replacement since the modification wasn't made. But I think what really was unfortunate and really dampened my experience was they threw away the salad in front of me (I have a weak spot for wasting food). I really think we have enough food for everyone, but hunger exists in part because of this practice. And I know some people pull this trick to get another one for free, and that's also disgraceful. I wish Chik Fil A did something different to be a faith influenced company of being good steward of food. I wrote a private feedback as well but haven't heard back after a week.

My grilled chicken was moist, flavorful, and cooked very well. The fried catfish was not too salty and had great balance where you can taste the fish. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and green beans were all of nice quality, the weakest link is the potato salad, however that is a dish that can be complicated for different restaurants to get the hang of, fortunately I can prepare some awesome potato salad myself. The peach half and half drinks were balanced perfectly well not too sugary and sweet. I swear some of these places make drinks way too sweet and you want to check your insulin levels. The server was highly attentive and a great conversationalist and paid attention to our wants and needs and had superb professionalism and a strong work ethic. He was hospitable and accommodating. The staff was friendly and approachable. We had fun and enjoyed this more than Milk and Honey and even Carolina Kitchen. DC keeps gentrifying and losing its soul, but there are still some hidden gems around. This spot blends in with the Walmart, and funnily enough I have driven past here a gazillion of times and assumed it was some bakery or another spot and did not know it was a soul food joint, something DC has been minimizing and pushing out to Maryland like the city always does. I think it is masterful that they use clear plastic containers for their food making it easier for the staff as that can be expensive and time consuming with the dish washing/prep, sound economical move. It is nice that the business (U Street etc. location) has been in the DMV for over 20 years and expanded to Baltimore in Fells Point. I think Baltimore will like this spot! This felt authentic and soulful in a way that I had not experienced in the city in quite some time, as the city has had a lot of restaurants be sterile, bland, flavorless, and catered to certain demographics while completely ignoring others. I liked the soundtrack with R&B and was able to hear some TLC on the soundtrack which was very nostalgic and a throwback to DC before the gentrification when it was truly Chocolate City! Overall, it is a spot that you can visit more than once certainly not a one and done like a lot of restaurants that lack service, food, and ambiance/vibe.

At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.

The menu is small but the food packs a punch. I ordered almost everything on the menu as I was hungry and really wanted to give them a shot. I ordered the Cajun Salmon but also added Shrimp and Chicken for $40. This is not on the menu as an item as I combined the 3 they have into one. I also ordered the Fried chicken entree and chose Candid Gams and Teriyaki Green Beans for sides $22. Lastly I ordered the Fried whiting entree which for sides I chose Mac and cheese and green beans $22. Both entrees came with cornbread. The Cajun Salmon was seasoned EXTREMELY well and was filled with onions and peppers. There were Large shrimp, I wish the tail was off, a healthy piece of salmon and good chicken. They weren't up to the chef's liking as they were a little darker than normal so they tossed in another 3 on the side. Both sets were good for me. The green beans were good. Couldn't really taste the teriyaki but good nonetheless less. The fried whiting was good as well. I love that the lid had wholes poked so that my fish wouldn't be wet by the time I got home. Instead the fish was nice and crispy. The Mac and cheese was old school Mac and cheese. It was ok. The collard greens were your mommas collard greens. Just how you'd expect. The cornbread's for both dinners was soft, and tasty. Overall I'll absolutely be back. This might be a regular once a month stop for me. The food is GREAT! Soulful for sure. Momma Tee can cook. The service is great and now that I know to order in advance I won't have to wait nearly as long. They definitely have a returning customer in me. Go go go in you're nearby.
