It's like Hong Kong, but in Denver! I was surprised to find quite the authentic little spot. My parents are from Hong Kong, so when my friends told me about this place, I was skeptical but intrigued. I opened the menu to find all the Hong Kong breakfast gems and even my favorite drink, Horlicks. If you've never tried it, I highly recommend it -- it tastes like cereal! And they're literally everywhere in Hong Kong, along with Ovaltine drinks. I was definitely consumed by nostalgia, so it took me forever to decide what to order. But the owner was super sweet and helped recommend dishes. He and the staff all speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin, so honestly you can't go wrong coming here no matter what language you and your friends/family speak. The place itself is a little small and has limited seating, but it feels super clean and modern. My friends and I came here around 1pm on a Sunday, and unlike dim sum places, there wasn't a wait at all. (They even had high chairs for my friend's baby.) If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. The southern Chinese style food is as authentic as it gets. It reminded me of the food I ate growing up when my grand parents were around. I discovered this food on yelp (no surprise) and had to check it out because of its rating. Check out all the pictures I took. We had a big party, and we ordered seven dishes. Every dish was delicious and unique. I recommend ordering a dish from the house specialities, appetizers, soups, and whatever else seems tasty because it probably is. The Szechuan style hot beef tendon was my personal favorite. Extra numbing spice and kick for those who are daring. The dish comes out in a roaring clay pot, so you know it's fresh and ready to eat. Served over rice, it's the perfect combination for a good meal. They also served us complementary dessert, which was a glazed bun. It was a nice touch to an overall great dinner. The Beef Tendon Noodle Soup with wide rice noodles was FREAKING yummy!! Soup was so good, and there was enough beef tendon for the amount of noodles! The chicken wings we got were a bit too salty, but still really good. Could have used 30% less salt and it would have been much yummier. Definitely needed the rice to go with them. Some of the wings were huge, so this is a great deal. Takes 20 minutes for them to prepare, but worth the wait! The Hong Kong Toast was yummy as well. We were so full though. Absolutely disgusting. This picture is only SOME of what I pulled out of my Beef Brisket Pan fried noodles. The sauce was nasty and the brisket was SOOOO tough I couldn't even chew it and gave it to my dog. Crab cream cheese wontons: literally no crab whatsoever, just thick not well blended cream cheese. Springs rolls: were tolerable. Chicken fried rice: was just ok. I also ordered tofu fried rice with extra egg, which was done properly and my husband actually liked because they did the extra egg properly. I paid $52 for my meal which is definitely on the higher end of what I'm used to paying, especially due to the portion size. Also, when I called to order, the menu online is not the current menu. The only plus is that the lady on the phone was extremely nice, and comped my spring rolls. BUTTT I literally can't even describe how nasty my food was. The meat taste old, like it had been left out too long and then cooked. It was so tough and not tender at all like brisket. And I'm not sure is that's the skin that was left on, but it definitely looks like pork skin and not something that would be on beef. I WILL NOT order here again. read more

Here you can have delicious Asian food or really tasty burgers without paying another 30 EUR. Plus, it has a beautiful terrace and offers good view to the ice bergs. Went back to Hong Kong Cafe because I hadn't visited in over 9 months after I gave up on the new owners that came in after Covid and changed all of the recipes. It looks like they have a new cook and it was BETTER than it was but still very far from as good as it was with Jenny unfortunately. So props to them, it was really bad initially after the change and I was glad for them it was better. BUT really their issue now is that their portions are criminal. Over $11 for a lunch special that is legitimately maybe half the size of pre-2020 Hong Kong Cafe lunch (also used to cost $8 and was still double the size). Long story short they aren't really there for me but I'm glad they improved. It was bad soggy chicken after 2020 at first and this meal was an entirely new recipe. Good luck read more

The shrimp toast is delicious and is a large portion, it can feed 3 people for an app. The sizzling plates are all yummy as well, lots of flavor without a lot of fillers (also a lot of meat is given as well). The sesame chicken had plastic wrap in the dish. I'm assuming it was prepackaged, which is fine...but not if you're charging $15 for it. I also ordered the salt and pepper pork. ONE of these things (or both) gave my poor son explosive diarrhea on top of vomiting. On the plus side, the food tasted great (even though the pork was far too salty, to the point of being nearly inedible). I've only order from them once, so I may give them another shot. Ordered takeout from Hong Kong Cafe, and there were some things we liked, and some things that were just ok. The orange chicken and combination udon were both amazing! The udon was our favorite, and I would definitely recommend getting it. We also got the basil fried rice and the steamed dumplings and both of those were pretty bland and nothing special. We chose to go to Hong Kong Cafe on a whim after checking out the fellow yelp reviews. It was so great! We have definitely found our spot for excellent Asian food. We enjoyed a large egg drop soup (note, it has tofu and corn in it as well) which can easily be split for two. The crab rangoons were crispy and creamy inside. I enjoyed the vegetable pad thai. Great sized portions. My partner and I both had plenty to take home with us. He had the sesame chicken which was perfectly spicy and sweet. The staff were very friendly and attentive. So, coming from LA, I think good Asian food is hard to come by in Denver. However, Hong Kong Cafe did not disappoint! Highlights: - Mapo Tofu with minced pork had a spicy kick to it. Delicious! Sesame chicken was also delicious. You can choose to have white rice or fried rice with any of the dishes. - Scallion pancakes were delightfully fluffy and flavorful. Don't know what kind of sauce they served it with, but I was in love. - They have taro smoothies!! If you've never had one, just order it. Trust me. - Service was fantastic from start to finish. Owner came out to chat and check in with us. - At the end of your meal, they give you free fried buns with a condensed milk drizzle. Adorable and sweet. - Portions were HUGE. Definitely shareable. Also, the menu had so many choices. No matter who is in your party, someone will find something to eat. I am such a fan of this place.
