We were simply there to order food to go and expected the same basic courtesy and respect that any paying customer should receive. What really stood out to me was what happened when I was paying. As I was handing over my credit card, the owner snatched the card out of my hand, and then also snatched the charge slip from my hand. I found the manner in which this was done extremely rude, unnecessary, and disrespectful. As a Black customer, I have unfortunately experienced situations where I have questioned whether the treatment I received was influenced by my race. I cannot say for certain what motivated the behavior we experienced at Golden Palace, but I can say that the way we were treated left us feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disrespected.
