Read the reviews and decided to drive from Amador County to try this place out. Both my son and I had luncheon specials with an additional side of pot stickers. The food was great, service and atmosphere very friendly and well worth the drive! Unlike most Chinese restaurants all the entrees seemed to be made from scratch and especially fresh. What an asset to the otherwise dearth of Chinese cuisines in gold country!! Hong Kong Inn is fantastic restaurant in the tiny downtown area of San Andreas. Parking is limited in the small lot that Hong Kong Inn shares with Subway and a few other stores, but we were able to find a spot pretty easily. However, we also visited on a weekday. While the exterior is unassuming, the interior of the restaurant is clean and tidy, with refreshingly-cold AC blowing. As it was our first time checking out their food, my husband and I both went for the house special lunch combos. Please note that these are different from the lunch/dinner specials that they have on their main menu. The lunch/dinner combos are printed on a separate piece of paper in a sheet protector. I went with the shrimp with hot garlic sauce and my husband went with the Mongolian beef. We both chose hot and sour soup. Our soups arrived to the table really quickly, and steaming hot. The flavors were on point and well-balanced. I quickly devoured my bowl. In what felt like under 10 minutes, our lunch combos had arrived to our table! Boy was I pleasantly surprised by how bouncy and flavorful my chow mein was. I've had my fair share of only decently-flavorful chow mein, but Hong Kong Inn's chow mein is super garlicky, which I love. The fried rice was simple but well done, and my shrimp was juicy and not overcooked. I had a taste of my husband's Mongolian beef and it was just as I was expecting. The egg roll was basic but crunchy and very hot, and came with the classic red sweet & sour dipping sauce. Our servers were super attentive and made sure to keep our waters filled, and also asked how our food tasted. I listened to the staff speak with each other and it seems like a variant of Canto, so I was able to pick apart some of what they were saying as well, but it's not a dialect I'm fully familiar with. Our plates were stuffed to the brim, and obviously we had leftovers for another day. I truly was not expecting such good Chinese food in San Andreas, but on the other hand, that would make sense based on the history of California's gold country. We are definitely going to be back to try other dishes that Hong Kong Inn has to offer! read more

We ordered General Chicken tonight what we got was Broccoli Chicken. No deep fried chicken, no peppers, no red sauce, just broccoli and chicken. My daughter took it back but she would have to pay $35 more to get what we want. The cook said she made General Chicken. I always thought the customer was right. We were not very happy. We decided to stop into our favorite Chinese restaurant today. We enjoyed homemade Potstickers, Hot and Sour Soup and Three Kinds in a basket. Three Kinds in a Basket includes beef, chicken, and shrimp stirfried with carrots, green pepper, onions, snow, peas, and wood ear mushrooms in a spicy Hunan garlic sauce. This yummyness is served in a toasted edible wonton bowl. The rice was a little dry today and had a slight fishy taste. Potstickers could've been a little bit more crispy. Overall, they do a wonderful job! Their service is always top-notch, very attentive and timely. All well worth the drive from Copperopolis to San Andreas. Hope to see you there !! read more

This is the best Chinese food in the nearby three counties. Everything is homemade and after three visits, we haven't had a dish we don't like! Open 7 days a week, food and sauces ALL from scratch, friendly owners/staff, clean & bright restaurant, and delicious food. LOVE that they offer DINNER combos instead of only lunch!! I love being able to get a perfect portion and sampling of rice, noodles, entree, egg roll & soup without having to buy them all separately! We will gladly drive here first from Murphys before anywhere else. We don't get that gross over-stuffed and bloated food coma feeling after this Chinese food either. The honey walnut prawns is the best we've ever had from any Chinese restaurant. Lightly sweet and crunchy with a hint of orange slices added amazing flavor. I ordered the General Tso (General Zod) Chicken. By far the best chicken dish I have ever had from any Chinese Restaurant. Including any place in Monterey or San Francisco. We came in for lunch. It wasn't crowded when we got here but filled up quickly with regulars. We both ordered a lunch special, we liked that you can choose which soup you'd like, either egg flower hot and sour. Of course we chose hot and sour, it was delicious!. My sweet and sour shrimp was very good it came with an egg roll and some egg fried rice. My daughter had the General chicken which was excellent, very flavorful. Had a great meal here with my wife and little girl. The staff immediately welcomed all of us and made us very welcome, bringing a perfect little apple juice for our daughter. The restaurant is very clean and neat. When the food came it was delicious: the sauce level was perfect and the vegetables were crunchy and fresh and paired with perfectly cooked chicken. The portions are incredibly generous and my wife and I had plenty to take home which fed us lunch the next day, making this restaurant even better value for money! It's great that a little town like San Andreas has such an awesome Chinese restaurant. We will definitely come here again. read more

First time in enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and temperature of my meal. I had a meal of sweet and sour pork which was tasty. They have a couple weeks before the beer and wine license is final. The menu is complete with all the Chinese yummies you are used to. I'm impressed! read more

The staff were calm and sweet even tho these two really rude "customers" were screaming at them and at other customers, the staff handled the situation elegantly and with class. The reason for 3 stars: First visit, came during a lunch rush. Food was fresh and delicious. Had the orange chicken lunch. 5 stars and bragged to everyone about it. Second visit, same order but went outside of lunch rush hours. Tasted like the chicken was par fried during lunch rush (I went around 3:00) so the finished fry was old tasting, kinda stale with many tiny hard bits. 2 stars and haven't recommended since (Far East in Angels Camp is a very consistent 4 stars). Love Hong Kong Inn. They have large portions and reasonable prices. We order here probably once or twice a month and it's always consistent, which I appreciate. Our favorite dishes are the sweet and sour chicken, General Tso Chicken, potstickers, and the spicy cold chicken salad. The only time I did not care for a dish was when I tried the General Tso tofu. The texture was all wrong and for whatever reason the sauce turned gelatinous. Do not recommend that particular dish. read more

I had the vegetable egg foo young, and it's exactly as I remember as a kid. We also got the wonton noodle soup, vegetable chow mein, and an orange chicken dinner plate. This place is damn good. The new owners took a place that was hit or miss and nurtured it into a diamond in the rough. I have eaten here about six times now, each time they have exceeded my expectation and offered delicious foods with wonderful service. The dining area has been completely remodeled and is now warm and welcoming. Staff are attentive and kind, greeting you on the way in and wishing you a good day on the way out. The portions are more than you would expect for the very fair prices. Today I enjoyed an order of egg foo young. Everything from the portion sizes down to the sauce was AMAZING. San Andreas needed a decent Chinese restaurant after many years of declining quality. Unfortunately this restaurant under new management does not deliver the goods. Only the hot and sour soup was respectable. The main dishes arrived in a huge portion, but what's the point if the food doesn't taste good? Selections from the uninspired menu were set forth in a heap of indistinguishable, poorly seasoned glop. This restaurant finally answers my long-standing complaint that the food in all Chinese-American restaurants tastes the same: in this restaurant the food tastes like nothing at all. read more
