They don't do takeout anymore starting yesterday. I called to place a takeout order around 3PM, guy just told me "no". I've done takeout orders before so I had to ask again to just to make sure. guy says "no takeout" then just ends the conversation there, no explanation or anything. Lunch in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... Always looking for a new restaurant, Irene and I met at Dahan Skewer, located on the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Winam Avenue. It has a free shared parking lot - enter from Kapahulu Avenue. Inside, it's nicely air-conditioned and decorated. There's outside dining, too! Service was pleasant and efficient! We ordered a variety of skewers. Our favorites were the zucchini and mushrooms. The chicken thigh was a bit spicy. The pork belly wrapped in tofu skin had an odd flavor... I couldn't figure it out. The asparagus wrapped in pork belly was creative! Note: The warming dish was powered by three small candles under the metal tray, lined with parchment paper... very clever! We each got sauce dishes - half with chili powder and half with applesauce/lemon/onion. The applesauce concoction added a sweet sour kick to everything! We liked it! You should try it! What do you enjoy on a stick... Dahan Skewer is a slightly hidden spot sitting right in the midst of busy Kapahulu but what's great is that it does have parking though shared with other tenants you don't have search which is huge in this part of the neighborhood. Walking in the cute spot are a few tables both inside and outside which are quite the minimalist with a box and round bamboo container. Though they also have noodles and rice menu we were here for the skewers and yes it's Nadine C (tadahhhh!) as we're STICKing to our plan...she threw in a few choices as I glanced over the menu was quite confused at first with the appetizers understanding it's not skewers along with foil pans and deep fried sections. Pork will give you the impression that it's 3pcs/5pcs per order but some aren't and just a single skewer with three pieces on it and as I glanced over to the veggies in the corner were skewers and was excited not wanting too much meat I went for it with Portabello Mushrooms, Zucchini along with Chicken Thigh, Pork Belly wrapped in tofu skin, Pork Belly with Asparagus (the singular skewer). Keeping it simple we both enjoyed the veggies more so the Portabello Mushrooms with two giant caps on each skewer it was stuffed with yumminess and once you place your order they light candles in the box to keep your skewers warm and give you a plate with chili peppers and a sauce that we thought was garlic...nope apple sauce (what!) yup with lemon juice and onion and it paired amazing with majority of the items and I asked for more I really like it and was amazed. The staff is very nice and friendly who answered our questions an assured us on the item that was just one skewer to keep us in the know also refilled our waters and checked on us as well. Went for lunch to try the $9.95 pork noodle soup special. The noodle soup was filling and the pork was moist and very tasty. Noodles were more like a rice noodle but with decent chew. The soup was a touch light on the salt, but I'd prefer that over something that's too salty. We also tried the Mongolian naan. It's very similar to a Chinese green onion pancake, except this was thicker and had some spicy seasoning salt. Tasty but not sure if order again for $8. Extra * for attentive service. Dahan Skewer is a fairly new eatery in the Wong Plaza next to the udon shop and GNC. The corner unit seems to have a high turnover rate...hope that changes. Dahan specializes in Mongolian / Chinese skewers but they offer a $10 special for their Braised Pork Belly Noodle Soup. It is quite tasty the pork is well-seasoned. Noodles are on the softer side and a it is different to ramen, which I am used to. Also, served with a marinated half-egg and choy sum (?) I do want to try more from their menu. I recently visited Dahan Skewer during their soft opening, and I was honestly so impressed. They're a Chinese-style skewer spot that offers a wide variety of dishes beyond just skewers, including braised noodle soups, fried noodles and rice, and classic Chinese appetizers like buns and green onion pancakes. But we came specifically for the skewers, and they did not disappoint. What sets their skewers apart is the seasoning. Instead of the typical sweet-savory glaze you'd find at Japanese yakitori spots, everything here is coated in a bold, dry Chinese spice blend--slightly smoky, a little spicy, and super flavorful. You can choose between 3 or 5 skewers per order, which makes it easy to try a variety of proteins like beef, chicken, pork, and seafood. Everything is made fresh to order and served over a foil tray kept warm with tea-light candles underneath--which actually works surprisingly well and stayed hot the entire time. While the skewers were great, the real standout for me was the garlic-forward dishes. Walked down Kapahulu. Lot was full. It took around 15 minutes to have order ready. It was supposed to be beef brisket with noodles. However when I got home it was pork belly with noodles. Noodles - had enough to split into two bowls for smaller stomaches. Pork belly came with 2 pieces but a bit tough for pork belly. Half a boiled egg and cabbage. They said they have been open around 5 months. Same strip mall as Dumpling Factory and GNC. They did not tell me and there were no signs on counter or on menu that I recall mentioning 3% credit card surcharge. He answered my question. I was thinking about the Mongolian Naan bread but there were no pictures and it was close to $8 an order. No other customers and it was a little after 12 P.M. We were excited to try this new restaurant, and they have an appealing mixed menu of their skewers, and numerous noodle dishes. Unfortunately, the food and service were largely a miss for us. The skewers: we tried the beef tongue and the Maui venison. The meat on both was good, and not overcooked. The Maui venison in particular was quite tender. The problem is the seasoning. Both meats (I'm assuming all of them) are drenched in hot paprika. Now I actually like hot paprika, but it's a pretty intense flavor and just masked the pricey meat you just ordered. Because of this, I can't imagine ordering more skewers. Two was already more of this flavor than I needed. Also, has some spice if you were looking for mild. Green onion pancake was fine. Un-notable. Dry-tossed tendon noodles was probably the worst thing we ordered. Very wet cold ramen, with strange tasting tendon (maybe hoisin and more of that paprika?). Mongolian lamb fried rice was the best thing and best value. Too greasy, but tasty. Beef look funn was moderate. Too salty (soy sauce) and oily, even for what it is. Also pretty small for $16. Finally the service was just odd. She was both always there, and yet also non-responsive. Like took our order then walked away without a word. Came back while we were eating and asked if we wanted more, and when we said no she immediately went and got the credit card machine so we could pay (again, while still eating). $85 lunch. I won't rush back. Could try the soups, maybe one of the other fried rice, but there are so many options in town it seems unlikely this will get my business again. read more

Another Chinese skewer place opened and I'm all for it. This is located in Kapahulu at the former Honu's Kalbi and Sushi. There is free 2 hour parking in the lot when you scan the code from the restaurant. This skewer place is modest in design. There are indoor and outdoor seatings but the indoor is a little more narrow. The opening was pretty lowkey. It was not advertised much on IG. On to the foods, the skewers were huge. The portion was more generous and larger than other skewer places on Oahu. They were seasoned very well. The beef skewers were good, some part has a good amount of fat and since there were larger in portion, other part without the fat can be a little dry. The beef tongue was excellent. It was good and tasty. The beef brisket with tendon was also good. It was like the beef use in beef stew. The pork wrapped enoki was good as well. The pork was cut thick and there were a good amount of enoki stuffed in. It was difficult to bite because the enoki was chewy. Next, the other dishes we got were the garlic clams with vermicelli. The broth was absolutely delicious. Very flavorful and garlicky. Some clams do have grain in them. The vermicelli goes great with the broth. My go-to in any skewer place is the eggplant. The eggplant was soft and the "meat" was easy to peel off the skin. There was a good amount of garlic on top. The green onion pancake was not bad. It wasn't oily and it was thin and crispy. There wasn't enough scallion flavor but this goes great with the two dipping sauces. Overall, a pretty good skewer place. They provided a free dessert at the end of our meal, which was shaved ice. The shaved ice was milky. It was not overly sweet. It was pretty good. Service was pretty quick however they did forgot about our eggplant. They brought it at the end after our dessert which they apologize for. They are fairly new with a few kinks. The two sauces which they offered initially were chili sauce and some type of sweet chopped garlic. When we requested for more, we got what it seems like different sauces. Another Mongolian skwer house has entered Hawaii! The newest one took over Honu's Kalbi and Sushi located in Kapahulu in a newer strip mall on the front corner nearest the street. There is some parking (maybe 10 or so) You'll need to use the QR code inside of the restaurant to get the free parking. Theres indoor and outdoor dining available. The best thing about the outdoor dining is that your little fur bestie is able to join you too! Yay! Right now they have a soft opening promo until mid feb, so you have time still to receive 10% off your order! We tried a handful of things and the must get was the bacon wrapped quail, calamari, corn, the meat an cucumber one (i forgot the name), and chicken thighs. to be honest they all started coming out one after another so i kinda forgot what was coming out. We each ordered a noodle bowl and a green onion pancake to share. We would've liked to try their skewers but seemed too high priced, and there were no combo meals available (for diners to try items from both menus). Our food took some time to prepare... wait was noticable as we were the only diners when we ordered. Food arrived and it was ok. The small plastic spoon to enjoy the noodle soup didn't help. We had to add chili oil to our soup noodles to give it that extra depth of flavor we were hoping for. While I was still eating, the female worker came by to close out our bill. This Chinese restaurant specializing in skewer dishes is one of the newest addition in Kapahulu. They are located next to Udon Gama-Dashi and across Yakitori Glad. Parking comes easy as there is a private lot and although there is a sign to pay, the restaurant offers validation for up to 2 hours by scanning their QR code. The menu has a good amount of variety; proteins ranges from seafood, poultry, pork, beef, lamb, and venison. They also offer vegetable dishes as well as deep fried items and appetizers. During our visit, we ordered a bunch of skewers (beef tongue, beef, pork belly with quail egg, and chicken thighs). Most of the skewers can be ordered in sets of 3 or 5, though some special ones like the pork belly with quail egg is single skewer. Each skewer dish were flavored perfectly with their dry rub. We requested mild spice but they are able to adjust the heat level if you prefer spicier. For me, I had a little trouble sliding some of the protein off the skewer and unfortunately fell to the floor (it might have been user error). The braised beef salad was very flavorful and the cucumber added a refreshing balance to the dish. The wonton was also delicious especially with the added sauce for the flavor. The scallop with vermicelli was also well-seasoned and enjoyable. The ambiance was pleasant with the option to sit indoors or outdoors. We chose to sit outdoors for fresh air and as a bonus, you can bring your pet. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal, and we felt very welcomed. We couldn't finish everything and ended up taking food home. We still stayed for dessert which wasn't too sweet or heavy; it was a great way to end the meal. We found this place serendipitously as the staff for the place across the street we were headed to didn't show up to work! I'm glad we tried it because our whole family enjoyed the experience. The menu offers lots of options from the usual meats to all kinds of seafood and vegetarian options. We sat outside and the ambience was casual and comfortable! Surprisingly, the little candles kept the tray nice and hot, so our skewers were always warm. We tried the chicken, venison, beef, sausages, king oyster mushrooms, tofu, calamari, eggplant, and naan. The eggplant was cooked flat opened with lots of garlic and I loved the presentation. All the skewers were very tasty. I found this place on Instagram via 808 Digital, I'm so glad I gave them a try. This is my new go to dim sum spot. The food was the highlight. I'm Chinese Chinese and I know good dim sum. Everything we tried tasted fresh and flavorful. This place is tasty, fillings are plentiful, and most importantly the price is right. Another big plus is the location. It's in a safe neighborhood, easy to find across Safeway, and unlike many popular dim sum places, parking wasn't a hassle. The parking lot in front had a lot of free stalls. I bought a box of bao for my mean Chinese neighbor, even she approves. This is a great addition to the area. Kapahulu gained another quality resident. Located in Kapalulu area. They have a very small parking lot, because they are sharing the parking lot with several other business. The parking lot fill up really fast at dinner time. I thought this restaurant only servers skewers, surprising me to find it also that many other dishes, such as soup noodle. Inside the restaurant looks clean, they do have a large TV that constantly broadcasting some Chinese song as entertainment. We ordered a bunch of skewers, usually the skewers order is either three pieces or five pieces. We found the skewers are very tasty and well seasoned. We also ordered two soup noodle dishes. One of the soup noodles that we ordered was beef soup noodle the broth has no taste. The noodle is really tough and hard. Not very good at all. I would not recommend. We also ordered the beef dry tossed noodle, may be this dish has difference skinnier noodle, this one is OK, noodle is not hard like under cooked noodle. They gave us a free dessert, it is like shave ice with ice cream on top, refreshing after our dinner. At the end, we all agreed the skewers are good, but not the noodle. Ordered duck fried rice and there was a piece of metal as pictured. When we took the fried rice and other food back to let them know, they gave a very hard time when we asked for a refund. Staff was rather rude one requested refund as well. I was outside with a friend looking at the menu, the manapua in particular, when a woman came out and asked us if we needed help. I said no that we were just looking at the menu. If this girl didn't just stand there looking at us and at one point leaned over the little railing by the entry to also look at the menu!!! Finally got to check out Dahan Skewer on Kapahulu and it's a perfect late-night, share-plates spot for when you're craving smoky, spicy skewers and don't mind leaving smelling like the grill in the best way. Beef tongue came out tender with a great chew, well-rendered fat, and enough spice to wake things up without blasting your palate; easily one of the standout bites of the night. Chicken skin was dangerously snackable--shatter-crisp edges, soft middle, and that signature Mongolian-style seasoning that keeps you reaching back to the rack "just one more time." Gizzards were pleasantly bouncy instead of rubbery, with the chili and cumin clinging to every surface so you get flavor in every bite. The food here is amazing with flavor and different types of meat! Loved the atmosphere and vibe, simple, clean and not too loud since I went during lunch. The service was okay. The worker that day seemed a bit off with serving us and a couple other tables, not too sure why but she was on top of her game when it came to delivering what we ordered in a timely manner. We did have to request for water refills or sauce refills which wasn't much of an issue but it did feel odd that we needed to do such a thing when we were clearly out of water to drink. Dahan Skewer is a new spot on Kapahulu, in the space that used to be a poke shop, serving Chinese skewers. We tried a broad cross-section of the menu: beef, lamb, beef tendon, beef brisket, pork jowl, chicken thigh, chicken cartilage, chicken gizzard, eggplant, enoki mushrooms, and more. That seemed like the right way to judge a place built around skewers, and the result was fairly even. Nothing was bad, but nothing really separated itself either The main pricing question is whether it feels expensive, and the answer is: initially yes, then not really. The skewers cost more than at some other skewer places, but they also come with noticeably more meat on each stick. The math ends up landing in roughly the same place, which makes the value more reasonable than the menu first suggests.
